After Effects CS 5.5 renders brighter gamma than my CS3. Files gamma don't match

I just upgraded to After Effects CS 5.5 last week. I had a project come back that was originally done in CS3. All the renders were done as the animation codec with an alpha channel. When I open the CS3 project in CS5.5 and render out a composition it is brighter than all the original comps rendered out of CS3. I have tired the checking the legacy quicktime check box in project settings but that didn't change anything. I also have tried several color management settings. Does anyone has any ideas of things to try.

Have you considered, that this may be related to the global Gamma change Apple introduced in OSX 10.6.7? It would be relevant for Quicktime, as QT is monitor profile aware. With regards to ProRes, that's its own story of madness for which Todd has some info on his blog. Maybe look into that as well. Concerning your effects I would look into whether hardware acceleration could be at play here, i.e. turn off OpenGL in the prefs, if enabled. Several filters do use this option and in light of the eternally lasting problems with this, it#s always a good idea to give it a look...

After Effects CS5.5 Error Rendering known clean project even after Reinstall and after System Restore

I've been getting frequent, but not consistent, errors during rendering AE CS5.5 projects with lots of 3D layers and lights. I have gone back to a known clean project to confirm the issue isn't with a particular project. The error is usually an error invoking the advanced 3D render engine. This is sometimes followed by a bad tracked memory id popup. But sometimes the program just hangs up.

Windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1
NVidia Geforce GTX 570
I have trashed the preferences, cleaned the cache, turned off rendering multiple frames, deleted Open GL, updated the graphics card drivers and even tried reverting to old graphics card drivers. Window's Memory Diagnostic Tool didn't find any problems. System File Checker Tool didn't find any corrupt files. My system drive is not fragmented. I have reinstalled AE, reinstalled all of CS5.5, and did a system restore to a known working point (both with and without doing the Windows updates that have occurred since the restore point). None of this fixed the problem.
I have tried the script BG Renderer to render in the background. I have consistently gotten the following error running the script, which I'm hoping will be a clue:
"aerender ERROR An existing connection was forcible closed by the remote host.
:Unable to receive at line 314
aerender ERROR: After Effects can not render for aerender. Another instance of aerender, or another script, may be running; or, AE may be waiting for a response from a modal dialog, or for a render to complete. Try running aerender without the - reuse flag to invoke a separate instance of After Effects."
The first two times I tried to render with BG Renderer, the error came right after closing AE. But I still got the same error if I left AE open and just sat and watched.
Any help is appreciated.

Update: I believe I have discovered the problem! It was a bad RAM stick. Windows Memory Diagnostic tool found nothing wrong, and nothing in my system seemed to be effected other than the ability to render complex AE projects with 3D layers. After a complete system restore to a known working point failed to help, I opened up the machine. Finding nothing loose, I methodically tested all the memory sticks to find the culprit. Everything is running smoothly now, albeit on less RAM.

After Effects & Adobe Media Encoder Rendering Issue

First of all, just to give a background, I am running Windows 8 and Adobe After Effects CC. We had purchased the computer 2 weeks ago and I was working on a video and everything was fine in After Effects. I then went to render it using Adobe Media Encoder to get the H.264 file type that AE CC doesn't have anymore. AME rendered the first time but I had to make more changes. I went to render it a second time and AME crashed and my computer blue screened. Now when I go to Add compsition to media encoder the program shows the splash screen but then it crashes every time. So after some research I found that there were output settings that you can check to allow AE to render H.264. I rendered my video the first time and it worked fine. I had some mismatched audio so I had to make some changes to it again. I went to render it a second time this morning and I got an error message that said " After Effects Error: Rendering error while writing file...unable to delete existing file." This also crashed and blue screened my computer, now it won't let me render at all in either program. Are there any fixes to this problem?

Did you re-boot? Did you try re-booting in safe mode? Did you add anything to your computer or run any updates between the first render and the time this problem started?
Did you try creating a new comp, adding a single solid, and then rendering? If that works tell us about your source files including type and compression.
If that fails then make sure that you have run all the updates. Then, make sure you have not installed any 3rd party codec packs. Then, dig up the error log and look for anything you can find that starts with "unable" or "crash" and that may give you a hint.

HELP! After Effects CS6 "Background Color" Rendering Problem!

Of all my years of using Adobe After Effects, I have never encountered this problem before. First of all, this is what it looks like when I'm normally editing in my composition.

Problem with After Effects crashing machine when rendering

Ive been having a repeated problem with after effects crashing when I try to render a sequence.
The render halts then first After Effects becomes unresponsive then every other applications follows and I have to hard-restart my machine.
Can anyone help me find out how to stop this happening?

What exact version of After Effects? Include the minor version number---e.g., After Effects CC (12.2.1) or After Effects CS6 (11.0.4). Do not just say "After Effects with the latest updates" or "After Effects CC"; give the specific version number.

Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)

Performing a render, the render gets partially through but stops at different parts and hangs, then the computer hangs and I have to hard reset.
Has this ever worked before? If this worked before by doesn't work now, what has changed on your computer in the intervening time?
I had a similar problem two days ago, i thought it could be a problem with some animated png sequences and a "matte feather" effect so i replaced the sequences with non animated versions and it seemed to fix the problem.

Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC work slowly together - much worse than CS6

Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6 worked together really well. I could have both programs open and make a change in After Effects, then go back to Premiere Pro and see the changes pretty quickly. Since upgrading both to CC, I can't jump back and forth and see the changes quickly. I literally have to hit Enter and render the After Effect clip after every freakin' time I make a change to it in order to see it without any pauses or jumpiness in the playback. CS6 worked great. I can't express my disappointment in the Creative Cloud "upgrade". So many things are SO MUCH WORSE!!! Adobe you have to fix this stuff.

The speed of the connection is dependent on your hardware and the type of comp you have in AE.
I haven't noticed any significant performance difference between the two versions (I've also been heavily using dynamic link since CS6 ).
Some comps will play fine in Premiere, some comps will need rendering. I generally render the clip in Premiere, as opposed to AE.
If the same comp from CS6 is behaving significantly worse in CC, then you might be on to something, but it is most likely a bug isolated to your hardware config and not a general CC issue.

After Effects CC 2014 Error "error cannot be imported this moov file is damaged or unsupported"

Well, outside of the RAM preview issues that are stopping me from using AE CC 2014, I decided to at least use it to render a AE CC project already composed in CC.
I shut the CC project opened it in CC 2014 (same computer, same drive) and got the moov file error message. It would not recognize any Quicktime PNG movies, etc.
But the old CC does recognize them. Back to CC!

The permissions issue for the preferences folder seems to be the most common culprit recently.

Everything I see here says yes, but I don’t see that option in the software.

The only thing I want to do with this software is create a FLV video file with a transparent background using RGB+Alpha.

After Effects CC 2014 plays/renders incorrect audio for mp3 (Mac OS X Yosemite)

Hi,
I'm translating the audio for a number of animations made in AE. Sometimes when the mac users import new audio in another language, AE plays and renders a totally different mp3 file than what has been imported. It is playing another piece of translated audio from another folder but I can't tell where from (as it's in another language).
When I click reveal in Finder, the track in Finder plays the correct audio.
When I re-import after purging and emptying caches, AE still plays the wrong audio.
I found a work around where if I copy and re-name the audio and import that it works. The problem is, we can't tell when this has occurred until reviews have been performed and it's costing us a lot of time in re-renders and fixing.
Does anyone know what causes this problem? Has anyone even encountered it?
Any advice is much appreciated.

Sure: You are using MP3 files. AE never has been good with them. Convert them to WAV/ AIFF.

After effects Crash: Crashes when Rendering

Hello, Everytime i try too render any video or clip (Im trying too render a 15seconds video) It will crash at any random point in the render, i have tried all different formats etc, i need help bad, please!

If you use those MP3 files anywhere in your comp, convert the them to WAV files. If you don't use them, simply remove them from your project. For everything else we would need more info about what is going on in your comp, to which location you render etc.. Could also be that your source footage is damaged or whatever....

Why is a line appearing on my After Effects composition that is not present in the original .ai file

There is a small black line that cuts through an area of my AE composition. The composition is made up of layers from an original AI file. When I go to edit the original, there is no line present, but when I go back to the AE comp, it is still there. Any ideas on how to rememdy this glitch?

Here is the screenshot of the entire comp panel. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. I went into AI to check my layers to make sure there were no hidden lines. Pressing "U" twice didn't show anything other than a change in position. I have made any changes to this particular layer. However, it must be something on the layers because when I move it, the line stays with it. When looking at the layer in the project panel, the line shows there as well. I went into illustrator and added a box on top of it to see if the line would show, but it didn't, however, when I copied the letters in the AI layer and added them above the original ones, the line still appeared in the AE. I'm assuming it is something to do with the letters, or perhaps the pattern I used. It's just funny that it only shows in AE and it's not affecting any other layers. The letters have been outlined and expanded in AI and are all on separate sublayers.
