After Effects cs4 in Production Prem. fails to install

I have Production Premium CS4 running on Windows 7.  I went back the other day to install the After Effects application.  Each time I try to install it, It does through the install process.  After it goes through disk #3, it stops and I get a message saying that the installation failed.   It says that some components did not get installed.
Should I uninstall the entire suite and reinstall it?

Troubleshoot installation with install logs
And provide more exact system info.

  • Problem installing trial version of After Effects CS4

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the trial version of After Effects CS4 on Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 32-bit Operating System, Processor 2.4GHz, RAM 4GB.
At the initializing stage it gets to 90% on the 'Checking System Profile...' dialog box, something flashes and then it freezes.
I've downloaded it a second time in case of corruption.
I've rebooted several times and retried it with no other applications running.
I've run updates on any existing adobe products I have.
Any ideas?  I've never had problems installing adobe products before.
    Thanks.

    Not your fault, known issue.
    a) Download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and install it
    b) Download the CS4 Cleanup Utility from Adobe's support pages
    c) Run the CS4 Cleanup, electing to remove all debris from your failed install
    d) Manually uninstall all instances of Adobe AIR products (Acrobat.com, Adobe Media Palyer) using Add or Remove Programs
    e) Launch the Microsoft Installer Cleanup and look for instances of Adobe Installer 2.0. Have them removed. Optionally, have it remove other Adobe stuff that may have been left over from CS4.
    f) Try to install CS4
Note: The cleanup utilities will not remove anything physically, only clean out the installer, so they pose no danger to your system. You will only lose the ability to uninstall those programs from Add or Remove Programs.

  • After Effects CS4 OSX - Can't run it, can't install, can't un-install?

    MacbookPro, OSX 10.5.8
After Effects crashed while in the quitting process.
I had to "force quit" it
then, I could not open it up again, it would crash as soon as it started.
So I ran "Adobe Updater" on it.  No updates found.
So I got out my instalation disks and re-installed.
That got an error, after going through 3 DVDs worth of something?
So I then tried to uninstall it, and it also errored.
So I manually deleted after effects from my HD, as we did in the
    old days before "installers".
It would not delete one particular file in there, claming "in use"
So I restarted, and it took a LONG time with the Grey screen with the
    little spinning thing
I almost thought it had corrupted the entire OSX??
But luckily the finder finally returned.
I completed the manual delete, and ran Adobes "setup" on DVD 1 of Creative Suite.
Now it doesn't show After Effects as an option to install anymore?
(Though it does list something about the "example files", as a box which I CANT check)
    What's going on here?
Other Adobe CS products still seem to work fine.

    wait.
sorry I was out for a couple of days.
before you do anything, could you find the following files (if they exist) and zip them up and attache them to this thread?
    /tmp/pbs.log
    /Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers/xxx...xxx.log.gz
the latter should be a named and dated log.gz file that indicates the last few days that you may have tried to run the installer you did. please choose the appropriate one.
first off, simply deleting the caps.db etc. will not allow you to update.
IMPORTANT, before you read the rest of this post, since you mentioned that you were installing from the suite, launch one of the apps that still works and choose Help->deactivate... before you do anything else.
now as far as the installers and updaters go, let me try to summarize the issue.
you have only CS4 products present on your machine. (you are lucky here)
after effects won't launch, and fails to update.
    you have run cleaner scripts,
photoshop still runs. (this is expected...)
updater relies on (at least) 3 sources of information to discover if you can update your software. if any of them are broken, the updater will fail, and potentially leave you in a position that prevents any future updates.  however, the presence or lack of this data will not affect your ability to run the programs, simply your ability to upgrade or update them, (or indeed, reinstall them.) the cleaner script only really gets rid of one of those places in order to fix the installer, but does not affect/cure the updater problem. to fix the updater you need to clean the system, re-run the original installer to regenerate the other bits of data, then run the updater.
at this point the scorched earth method that chris outlined is pretty much your best bet for eventual peace of mind. however you have to be a little careful as you don't want to add a licensing problem to your issues... (hence telling you to deactivate above, you did, didn't you?)
as of right now, (in this thread) the things that you want to delete to get yourself to a reasonable starting point would be the following:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Installers
    /Applications/.AdobePatchFiles
the last one might be a bit tricky. the easy way to deal with it is to hit cmd+shift+g (Go->Go to folder...) in the finder, and cut and paste that line.  if you are indeed starting your CS4 experience from the beginning again, you can safely delete all the contents of that folder. (side note, for those who want to know, it is copies of files that are eventually necessary for further updates should there be any. (e.g. if you are updating from 9.0.1 to 9.0.2, there are files in here that were generated during the 9.0 ->9.0.1 update that are necessary for the later update to succeed.)) getting rid of those four locations will make your next adobe installer believe that nothing is currently installed or updated.  whether or not you have deleted the actual applications themselves. which, as you have noticed, will still run as if nothing has happened.
do *NOT* delete anything else in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ folder.
now would be a good time to delete the applications themselves from the /Applications directory to be assured of getting a good clean install. (you did deactivate first, right?)
now, rerun the installers with your serial number. from that point you should be okay.  I would recommend running the updater as soon as you are done with the installer, before you do anything else.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 Crashes After Reinstall

    Hello Adobe Community,
I come to you asking for help, my After Effects CS4 stopped working after reinstalling Leopard, I already reinstalled my Suite and Runned the Clean Up Script and still not working, first I launch the App and shows me the following error: "After Effects has encountered an error: [/Chinchillada/pro/ext/adobe/MediaCore/MedialLayer/VideoFilterHost/Make/Mac/../../Src/AEP luginVideoFilterModule.cpp-107]" then I click continue and then it shows me another error: "After Effects can't continue: An Output contract violation has ocurred!" then it shows another error: "After Effects warning: Failed to initialize mediacore" then it shows this "After Effects warning: Media Core is not correctly initialized" then it launches and freezes and shows that the app quitted unexpectedly, I'm sure that the app is dead but I already reinstalled with no success.
    Im Running:
    Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
    1 GB Ram
After Effects worked and runned perfectly Please Help!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Sorry you are experiencing problems with After Effects.
I have a couple of questions....
    - did you install from a download, or a CD? if from a download, please download again, as their may have been issues
    - did you update it to v 9.02?
    - did you have a previous beta version on your computer?
    - you said you reinstalled Leopard - did you do a clean install? (ie reformatting your harddrive and starting clean)
I have experienced issues on the mac with a variety of different applications is I do a 're-install" vs a clean install.
Finally, are you aware that the minimum RAM requirements for AE CS4 is2GB
So since you only have 1GB, it could be a RAM  issue.
If you decided you want to try reinstalling before doing the more difficult task (reformatting Mac OS X with a clean install), I would run the cleanup script first, redownload, install, and then update.

    good luck,

  • After effects cs4 won't install with the Adobe Creative Suite 4

yesterday I bought Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium, i let it download through out the night and the next day i installed it and noticed that it came every single application except after effects cs4. there is no folder or icon for it, but everything else works. im in the process of uninstalling it and re-installing it, but i doubt it will help. i downloaded the after effects cs4 trail months ago, then deleted it. i don't think that's the problem though.I called adobe and was on hold for literally two hours, and when i was able to talk to someone they were not really able to help much.
im on a macbook, version 10.5.8
2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo
    2 gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
EDIT: i installed it again, looked at the install options more closely and realesed that it does come with it, it just wont let me install it or check it to be installed, because it says its already installed. i checked all over my hard drive for it and its not there. i really need some help.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.
also if I waited and got after effects cs5 do you think it would actually work, and would i be able to get the student discount again?

We cannot know. We need exact system info. As a start, you might consider turning off UAC completely and running as admin...

There's a list of the big new features in the
"New features in After Effects CS4" section of After Effects CS4 Help on the Web, and you can read about every little change to the UI in the
"User interface changes from After Effects CS3 to After Effects CS4" section.
But I thought that all of you who have posted requests to this wishlist might like to get specific responses to some of the items on this list.
First of all, though, I'd like to point out an innovative set of features that I think addresses a request that many of you have made... just not exactly as you asked for it. All of us have wanted a better way to see into and navigate among nested compositions (precompositions). The Composition Mini-Flowchart and Composition Navigator make moving around in a complex project much, much faster and easier. Telling you to see the
"Opening and navigating nested compositions" section isn't going to do this feature set justice. You'll only appreciate how slick this is when you get your hands on it.
Oh, and we reversed the behavior of double-clicking versus Option-double-clicking a precomposition layer: Now double-clicking opens the source composition in the Composition panel, not the precomposition layer in the Layer panel.
Now, on to the specific responses...
    David Wigforss:
    > I completely agree that the graph editor needs work....
    > Position values need to be seperated into 3 distinct values that can
    > be adjusted independant of each other.
    Done.
    See
"Separate dimensions of Position to animate components individually".
    Mark Weiss:
    > would like to see XDCam EX import capabilities.
    Done.
    See
    "Supported import formats".
    AndyClarke:
    > all effects in 32 bit or float
Not quite all. But more are, including all of the 3D Channel effects, which is a category that really needed the upgrade.
    See
    "Effects and animation presets".
    AndyClarke
    > prob a really simple little thing but a 'centre anchor point' button could be handy?
Move layers so that their anchor points are in the center of the composition or view?
If so, then done. See the first tip on the
    "Move layers in space" page.
    silversurfer:
    > An intra-project search function that displays properties of every layer.
    Done.
    See
"Search and filter in the Timeline, Project, and Effects & Presets panels".
(Plus, you can now use the shortcut FF to show instances of missing effects. See
    "About effects".)
    Thomas Craul:
    > the possibility to expand all of the effects parameters in the effect controls window at once.
    > just like when expanding all layer properties or all subfolders with strg+klick (little arrow).
    Done.
    See
"Shortcuts: showing properties in the Effect Controls panel".
    Pietje Bel:
    > I'd like to see some features I can use with my tablet (I got it for photoshop, though
    > I use AE even more than I use photoshop).
We've had features for using the pen dynamics with the paint tools for a while. See
    "Brushes and the Brushes panel".
That said, we've made some improvements under the hood that should make using a pen better (e.g., modifying the sensitivity during certain click and drag operations).
    Darren McNeill:
    > Simple, I would like After Effects to have the ability to extrude Text in 3d space.
    > Nothing complicated, just be able to create 3d Text.
How about the ability to do this in Photoshop and then import the 3D object layer into After Effects?
    See
"Using 3D object layers from Photoshop"
    invisiblerabbit:
    > Being able to specify how many processors to use in the multiprocessing preference pane.
Done. Plus other improvements in this area.
    See
    "Memory & Multiprocessing preferences".
    invisiblerabbit:
    > I'd love a setting either in the preferences or the output module to write project
    > information (importantly: the name of the project) into the metadata of the rendered file.
Done. And then some. On steroids.
    See
    "XMP metadata in After Effects".
    Navarro Parker:
    > I'd love AE projects to be searchable. Having the ability to search for comp names or source footage
    > names within projects from the Finder would be fantastic.
Done, as long as you have the means to search within XML files. The new XML project file format opens up a lot of scripting possibilities, too.
    See
    "About projects".
    David Bogie:
    > I humbly ask the Adobe After Effects team to concentrate first on fixing anything
    > and everything that is broken or buggy before adding any more complexity to this application.
    > Make it more elgant, make it easier to use, make it faster... sure, fine. But invest the
    > creative energy and geek resources to making it work flawlessly instead of adding more stuff.
Though we did add "more stuff", we also spent a lot of time polishing the application this time. The number of small tweaks to address pain points was very large.
    AndyClarke:
    > I just don't like the help browser.
    Better?
After Effects CS4 Help on the Web
    Laurie Hogan:
    > I got a simple one. Can AE have Spell Check.
    AE Enhancers provides
    a spelling checker script.
    Laurie Hogan:
    > Also Can there be more integration between AE and Apple FCP.
I give a link to a script from Dale Bradshaw on the
"Supported import formats" page (at the bottom of the page).

  • After Effects CS4 install on Win XP 64bit OS

I am trying to install the After Effects CS4 trial unto a Win XP 64bit OS.  There was only one trial download available and figure that if there is a 64-bit trial versions, it would be packaged with this also.
The installer designates installation location as "C:/Program/Adobe" which is correct as this is the 64bit program folder location.  However, it actually drops the application in "C:/Program Files/Adobe (x86)".  Also when After Effects CS4 is ran, it shows up as a 32-bit app in the Windows Task Manager process list (labeled as "AfterFX.exe *32")
If possible, is there a way to get After Effects CS4 properly recognized as a 64bit app under XP64?  I know this OS is not fully support per system requirements, but managed to install Photoshop CS4 as a 64bit app without issues.
Another thing that confuses me also is the After Effects CS4Readme/technote:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405854http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405854#_Toc162848026
    Per known issues ...
"When installing on 64-bit editions of Windows Vista, an incorrect default installation location appears. The application will be installed in the correct location: C:\Program Files (x86). (#BG064131)"
Does this mean After Effects CS4 is a 32-bit only app?

Thanks for the quick clarification.  I figured since video is so memory intensive, After Effects and Premier Pro would naturally be the first apps in their lineup to receive full 64bit compatability.  Seems Photoshop CS4 is the only full 64bit app in their productivity line up.
Sébastien, thanks for breaking down the benefits of still going with a 64bit OS for AE!

  • After Effects CS4 error during render

The error appearing is as follows...
After Effects: AEGP Plugin Media IO Plugin:
    Unknown Error!
    MediaIO2 error: 0x4
Not enough memory to complete this encoding
    ( 5027 :: 12 )
Now, my computer memory is very poor (1.98 GB RAM), however, I do not believe this is the issue as I have tried rendering the exact same file on my other computer with 8.00 GB RAM, but the same error occurs.
I am completely baffled with why this error may be occuring, I have tried many ways to try and stop this. Such as...
Changed the "RAM to leave for other Applications" to 0.25 GB
    Enabled Multiprocessing
Enabled Disk Cashe and to a size of 10,000 GB
Installed the latest update of After Effects CS4
Tried changing After Effects CS4's priority and affinity using Task Manager
Tried rendering with only After Effects opened with all other applications closed
Rendering with different output modules rather ".wmv", such as ".avi" etc.
Changed the video size from 856x480 to 428x240 etc.
I have tried rendering different sections of the video to avoid the parts where it has previously failed to render, however, it is continuing to crash and fail regardless of the section
The project I am rendering is rather large (4 Minute File), consisting of atleast 1 GB worth of imported video (.wmv) and images (.png) etc. However, before today, rendering was never problem and my renders would always run smoothly without crashing, so i'm completely unsure on what the possible change is and what could resolve the issue.
Thank you, all help is appreciated!

Any Windows Updates recently? Installed some CoDec pack or alternate media player software? If so, get rid of CoDec packs and reinstall Windows Media Player using the standalone package downloadable from Microsoft...

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 will not load to Snow Leopard

Recently My hard drive crashed. I reloaded Snow Leopard on my computer and all of my support applications.
I attempted to load Adobe After Effects CS4, but it would not load.
I read where others had problems back in 2009.
Is there a fix for this problem?

Mmh, something is leaking. Are there any other Adobe products on the system that use MPEG CoDecs (Premiere, Encore, Adobe Media Encoder). If so, my best guess would be that those are not installed correctly or were messed up during an update or so. That stuff is shared by all apps and while your system is not ideal, it certainly should work and not give this error. Depending on what is going on, only a full re-install of everything might fix it, though, unfortunate as it may be. So make friends with the CS3 and CS4 Clean Scripts from the support pages, set aside a good afternoon and take some deep breaths...

I want to maximize the use of the render farm and not just limit it to AE, I want to be able to render in multiple creative applications. Deadline looks good except as of today its Windows/Linux only: http://www.franticfilms.com/software/products/deadline/feature_set/
I want to throw in Final Cut Studio into the Mix along with Modo, Houdini, C4D and other applications, but strictly on Mac OS X.

  • Unable to open After Effects CS4 Mac OS

I just downloaded some updates via Adobe updater and the After Effects update wouldn't install after 2 attempts. Now After Effects won't even open. I am issued a window that reads:
"check with the developer to make sure Adobe After Effects CS4 works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and MAC OS X."
How can this be if nothing has been changed? I have the CS4 Master Suite and I am going to waste a whole day reinstalling everything
Is there another option or will I have to begin the reinstall?
    Thanks

    Apologies,
I am running version 10.6.6 and yes the software was working fine before the update. The thing that's most puzzling is the update failed to install. All the other Adobe programmes (Photoshop etc) work fine, After Effects is the only one experiencing problems.
I contacted technical support and they said to copy the file from the installation disc onto desktop and boot from there but that has not worked either. They are going to contact me tomorrow to see if everything went smoothly.
I will give the cleaner a try.
    Many thanks!

  • After Effects CS4 & Wacom Showstopper bug.

Hi! For more than one year I've being feeling that my machine was the slowest machine on Earth, so I spent a good deal of money on a new HP Z800 with a Quadro FX 5800 and 24GB of RAM with windows 7 64 and a set of SSD raid that gives me over 700MB per second, after install After Effects CS4 and try it, was awesome, such a good response and super fast, but.... after finish installing all the rest, AE was slow like on my previous 4 years old machine.....   so something was wrong. To make the story short, was the Wacom driver, if I turn it off, all goes back to normal, turn it on and all goes slow, so far I was able to reproduce it on 7 machines, Win XP, Win XP 64, Vista 64, and Win 7 64, the all show the same problem, and all the machines are different. And the problem can be reproduced very easily. I've made a video showing how to reproduce it. This problem render the Wacom with AE as a non viable option for anyone. I've noticed this since about 12 months ago, but never thought is was a hardware / driver problem. Just thought AE was excruciatingly slow.
    Here is the video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KwzASwrnC0
Hope Adobe and Wacon recognize this problem and fix it as fast as possible,

    Hello,
I'm using the trial of CS6 Production Premium, and After Effects CS6 has a terrible problem with the Wacom. After a video preview with audio or even just an audio preview, the Wacom will become very slow, almost like the computer is under insane processor load, but my CPU monitors don't seem to be doing much. I have a 24-core Dual-Xeon PC with 48GB memory and I am trying to make use of the multi-processor capability (it would be criminal if I couldn't use it).
The Wacom becomes slow with AFX and occasionally unresponsive. It makes it impossbile to work with AFX. I refuse to use a mouse, so that's out of the question. Also, this software should work with a Wacom like everything else does. I don't have this issue in any other program.
I've set AFX to use either 20 or 16 processors with .75GB memory per core. Seems this should work ok but the Wacom is being pummeled into submission, and that's a really bad problem if I can't even move my cursor. Makes me want to close down AFX ASAP, so I hope to find a fix.
I am using the latest Wacom driver and the trial for this software is only days old, so this problems should have been fixed by now according to this thread. I'm not too motivated to spend $1800 for this suite if I can't even use AFX with a Wacom, which is the main reason I'm after the Production Suite.
If I can't get this working I will probably just buy Vegas, even though Vegas is a big old crash monkey. No Wacom problems at all though.
    Any ideas?
Also, anyone notice funny cursor behavior when typing in this forum? It seems to jump around on its own and this doesn't happen to me anywhere else. Could be a residual effect of the Wacom weirdness. This fields don't seem to like 'Shift+Enter' either.
    Thanks,
    Dan
