After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update is available.

The After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update is available.
There are a lot of bug fixes in this update.  Let us know through the usual means if you have problems with the update or have bugs that persist after installing the update.

Hello,
I am having the same problem as the user who originally posted.
(I am not the insulting poster, by the way)
Specifically:
- my current version of After Effects CS5 is 10.0.0.458.  This was purchased as a retail DVD as part of the Production Premium Suite.
- when I run Adobe Updater from the program it says everything is up to date.
- I downloaded the dmg file directly from Adobe (AfterEffectsRetail-10.0.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.dmg)
- when I run the file off the disk image, it again launches Adobe Application Manager and give me the error message "Update is not applicable."
So I can find no way to install this update.
I am running Mac OSX 10.6.6 on a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Thank you for your help.  I am having the aiff audio bug that others have experienced and documented and would like to be able to install this upgrade.

The After Effects CS5 (10.0.2) update is now available.  It fixes bugs regarding an "Unexpected data type" error and a crash with the Directional Blur effect.

Any reason why the Adobe Application Manager isn't catching this (even when "check for updates" is run manually)?

    Todd,
I installed it over the weekend after seeing it mentioned in my RSS feed and have been using it heavily for a few days. The updater launched from within AE did not find the update. I had to go to the download page that was linked to in the feed. Installed from that download with no problem on Windows 7.
AE 10.0.1. has crashed on me twice over the weekend. Both times I was scrubbing through a composition that uses a pretty intense plug-in (Video Gogh). I would submit a bug report to Adobe or the plug-in developer, but the problem has not been repeatable. Also, an AE composition dynamically linked to PPro may have made PPro crash. I wish I could give more details on that but I was, as usual, trying to do too many things at one time.
Other than that, everything went smoothly during many hours of compositing in AE.

  • After Effects CS5 crashes when impoting AIFF audio.

    Hi,
AE CS5 keeps crashing me when I try to import AIFF audio.  I've tried different clips rendered from different sources, but still it's crashing.  The files are small and I have no problem processing HD video, so it's not a performance issue.  Anyone having similar problems that might lend me some advice?
I'm running a MacPro 2 X 2.66 GHz Doal -Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB ram.
    Update:
VERY STRANGE!  I closed that project and created a new one and presto - audio imports fine.  When I re-open the old project it still crashes when importing.  I guess that's a work-around, so problem solved (?)...

  • After Effects CS5 crashing when I try to make a new comp

First it was crashing when I imported files, now I fixed that but it's crashing when I try to make a new comp (may affect other things too, that's just what I noticed). It was working fine for 3+ months until now and I haven't had anyway software or hardware changes. I recently installed a video copilot plugin, but it was working for a few days then started crashing.
    I'm running on a Core i7 950 3.07ghz, 6GB DDR3 1600 RAM, 500gb SATA harddrive, and a GTX 465 graphics card.
It didn't give any error message, the only info I got was a windows message saying to look in my temporary app data. I looked herebut there was just a few XML files that listed my computer specs and a few AE stuff. I deleted them and it still didn't work.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Daniel

Have you installed the After Effects CS5 (10.0.2) update? The recent updates fix a lot of problems.
    > I recently installed a video copilot plugin, but it was working for a few days then started crashing.
Which one? There have been problems with Video Copilot plug-ins causing crashes. Make sure that you thave the most recent updates.
Try not using that plug-in, and see if you still get crashes.
Also make sure that your graphics card drivers are up to date.

  • Fix for crash in After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 when Joesoft Hear audio enhancer installed

After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 both can crash due to a conflict with the Joesoft Hear audio enhancer.
We've just gotten confirmation from Joesoft that they've released a beta version of Hear that doesn't conflict with After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5. We're recommending that our customers who also use Hear install the 1.0.5b2 (build 490) beta version of Hear.
Let us know on this forum thread whether this solution works for you. We on the After Effects and Premiere Pro teams will monitor this thread for feedback, and we'll make sure that the folks at Joesoft get the information that they need, too.
When reporting back, be sure to let us know whether you've installed the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update and After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update.

After 2 days trying to get AE and Premiere past the mediacore initialization message, I finally stumbled on this little message.  Updating Hear definitely solves the problem!

  • Is updating After Effects CS5.5 to 16 GB RAM enough?

    Hello,
Since my After Effects CS5.5 is kinda slow at bigger projects, for example; it takes forever to load frames, doesn't respond every 2 seconds, crashes now and then
I decided to update to 16 GB RAM, I now have 8 GB, I can work with 8GB at smaller and short projects, like it works, kinda but I feel like I need to update but I am really wondering if 16 GB is enough,
    I'd be great if you guys could help me with this, heres my computer info;
    ASUS Laptop
    Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 MHz, 4 core('s), 8 logische processor(s)

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
I'm not sure how much info there is needed (since I have no clue where to find everything you need to know) but please let me know what else you need to know if there is something else needed.
    Thanks in advance

Not only is it partitioned, it also is only a 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus, which is way too slow for editing.
    Several rules to adhere to:
    Nothing slower than 7200 RPM.
    Always use multiple physical disks.
    Never partition a physical disk.
External disk with USB 2.0 are no good.
See Tweakers Page and all the articles there, especially Tweakers Page - External Drives .

  • Why does my After Effects CS5.5 keep crashing on me when I switch to other apps?

I have Adobe After Effects CS5.5 (v.10.5.1) and it keeps crashing when switching between AE and other programs.  Here's a video so you can see what's happening.
I don't have any special plug-ins loaded except for what came with the program.  OpenGL rendering is turned on and have tried turning it off to see if it make the problem go away and it doesn't make a difference.

  • After Effects CS5 DNxHD rendering problems

Hello folks, I posted this last month, but still haven't worked it out.  My problem is that everytime I try to render a quicktime from After Effects CS5 using Avid's DNxHD codec, I get this error, about 60 - 100 frames in:  "Rendering error while writing to file (path name here). An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464)  I've tried rendering to different drives, rendering with and w/out multiprocessing, with and w/out Open GL rendering, different comps / projects, and different flavors of the DNxHD codec (8 bit, 10bit, 145, 220, etc).  Here's my basic system specs:
    Win 7 Pro 64bit
    Dual 6 core Westmere Processors
    48GB Ram
    Quadro FX 3800 1.5GB (driving 2 x 24" HP monitors)
GeForce GT 240 (driving a Cintiq tablet)
I have another system, same operation system, but with dual quad core Nehalem's and 16GB Ram and a Quadro FX 3400 and it renders to DNxHD just fine.  I'm certain I have the latest codecs from Avid, and I've tried both the LE and PE versions.  Any thoughts?
    Nate

It's a bug in the CoDec itself, if I'm not mistaken. I've seen this being discussed somewhere, but can't remember the full details. I believe the issue oils down to the Avid stuff using an older version of some compiler library and not dealing correctly with some SSE stuff on some processors. You may try to toy around with the BIOS settings to suppress SSE4 and 4.1 and see if it helps. Also consider installing the .NET runtimes. They still have those magical healing poweers, as the install resolves any version conflicts that may exist with outdated system DLLs bundled with some programs. That may also help. In the long run, though, I think Avid will just have to update DNx to properly work on 64bit and those new processors...

  • After Effects CS5 Configuration Error 3

I'm really getting frustrated with Adobe After Effects CS5 right now. For the last month, I have been getting a message that says "Configuration Error 3, Please re-install the product". I uninstall it, then reinstall After Effects, and I still have the message. I even reconfigured my computer to try to fix the problem. It fixed it for about 2 hours then I got the message again. I tried uninstalling then used the Adobe Cleanup Tool, as recommended to me before. This did not work. I need to know how to fix this because now I have to use this for school.
    My computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
    System Rating: 5.3
    Processor: AMD Phenom(TM) 9750 Quad-Core Processor 2.40 GHz.
    RAM: 8.0 GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GForce 9800 GT

I wish I knew an easy answer to your problem. I haven't had to deal with Windows errors for several years now, but back in the day when I was working primarily on Windows machines I kept a system backup of the OS in a disk image using Norton Ghost. There are also probably other backup / restore options out there that work just as well.
When I got into one of these "can't seem to solve it" scenarios, I simply restored the system OS using a good disk image from my latest clean install of just the OS and core programs. This took less than an hour and gave me a clean place to start, run the latest system updates, then install my critical apps. Once I had a clean install of my primary apps I ran another system backup using Ghost. Now you've got two clean places to bounce back to in case of a major system failure. Using the disk image you can be back up and running in about an hour no matter what happens.
The key to making this work quickly is to keep all your work on something other than the Boot drive. If you don't have a separate backup of your work then the a restore from the disk image could take much longer. Either way, it's a much better solution than spending the better part of a couple of days reformatting the boot drive and re-installing the OS and all the programs from scratch.
