After Effects CS5.5 rendering problem, PLEASE help!

hello,
my problem is the following: i can successfully render a video clip, but when i open the rendered file it's half too slow. what im trying to say is, if the original clip is 5 seconds long, the rendered file will be 10 seconds.
this is very annoying. i am new to AE and really need some help with this one!
additional info: i have windows 7 & im trying to render the files to H.264. when im using Twixtor, the "twixtored" part of the clip is how it should be, but the rest is still half too slow.

An indeed it might help to have more info, especially since you mention Twixtor. You may simply have forgotten to set a keyframe somewhere there.

After Effects CS5 DNxHD rendering problems

Hello folks, I posted this last month, but still haven't worked it out. My problem is that everytime I try to render a quicktime from After Effects CS5 using Avid's DNxHD codec, I get this error, about 60 - 100 frames in: "Rendering error while writing to file (path name here). An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464) I've tried rendering to different drives, rendering with and w/out multiprocessing, with and w/out Open GL rendering, different comps / projects, and different flavors of the DNxHD codec (8 bit, 10bit, 145, 220, etc). Here's my basic system specs:
Win 7 Pro 64bit
Dual 6 core Westmere Processors
48GB Ram
Quadro FX 3800 1.5GB (driving 2 x 24" HP monitors)
GeForce GT 240 (driving a Cintiq tablet)
I have another system, same operation system, but with dual quad core Nehalem's and 16GB Ram and a Quadro FX 3400 and it renders to DNxHD just fine. I'm certain I have the latest codecs from Avid, and I've tried both the LE and PE versions. Any thoughts?

It's a bug in the CoDec itself, if I'm not mistaken. I've seen this being discussed somewhere, but can't remember the full details. I believe the issue oils down to the Avid stuff using an older version of some compiler library and not dealing correctly with some SSE stuff on some processors. You may try to toy around with the BIOS settings to suppress SSE4 and 4.1 and see if it helps. Also consider installing the .NET runtimes. They still have those magical healing poweers, as the install resolves any version conflicts that may exist with outdated system DLLs bundled with some programs. That may also help. In the long run, though, I think Avid will just have to update DNx to properly work on 64bit and those new processors...

Adobe After Effects CS4 trial installation problem, Please Help!

Ok, I downloaded the trail version of Adobe After Effects CS4 onto my PC (Windows XP). When I try to run the setup (by double-clicking it), a window pops up saying 'Adobe setup has encountered a problem and needs to close.' Does anyone know why this is, and how I might be able to fix it? I already tried re-downloading it, and I checked the system requirements. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO USE THIS! If it will help here are my PC's specs:
Operating System - Windows XP with service pack 3
RAM - 2.0GB
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 4830
Processor - Intel Core 2 Dual 2.2GHz
Monitor Resolution - 1280x1024

Verify the following:
a) you run as administrator
b) your virus scanner and firewall don't interfere
c) you have enough temporary disk space
d) no other tools are interfering
For b), simply turn those tools off during install. For c), check your user temp directory (C:\Documents and Settings\You\Local Settings\Temp). Clean it out either manually or using tools like CCleaner. Also defragment your drive. For d), you may need to uninstall otehr Adobe software. also monitor your task manager for processes and services that may have a negative impact. A dump of those can easily be generated using HijackThis!, so you can post the list here for verification, if needed. also provide any otehr info that could be important, like e.g. special drivers or user settings.

After effects cs5.5 install problems

I am experiencing 'error(-1)' when installing a trial version of after effects cs5.5, any help?
The install does not start, it says it is calculating the time and then says I experienced errors and displays the above error message.
I am running on a mac, if that makes any difference

After Effect CS5.5_Pen tool problem: No Handles display, can't creat straight line

Hi,
I wonder why in After effects CS5.5, the pen tool doesn't work correctly!
1. "no handles display", ex: when I click an area whilst holding the mouse and clicking / or hold Alt and clicking the point in order to see the handles.
2. cannot make "straight line", neither can I make 45 degree coner while holding the shift key clicking.
I coud use it before, but now it no longer work. I tried "the pen tool" in photoshop cs5.1 it works very well.
Is there any solution?

Yes, I guess. Beacuse everything is checked.
2.Have you hidden the layer controls?
No.
Are you using Roto Bezier?

3....If it's not try trashing your prefs.
How do you trash the prefs?
I didn't modify any setting in the prefs.
Btw, what does that title stand for "community professional"? Are you working for Adobe?

After Effects Rendering Problem (Please Help!)

Hello, I recently purchased adobe after effects CS6 for my Asus i7 laptop running windows 8 OS with a nvidia graphics card. I had just finished my after effects project and I went to render it out. I chose all my settings as H.264 and best settings. I click render and it starts off fast and rendering fine. About half way through the render it stops adruptly but does not signify any error message on the screen. The software shows that it is still trying to render but the render load bar does not move neither does the time lapse (time remaining).
If you have any idea what the problem may be or how to fix it please post a comment.

If the format being used is H.264 in a QuickTime container, this can be a problem, since that codec does have problems with the use of many threads, and these problems often occur partway through processing. There is more information about this here.

After Effects CS5 not rendering properly

I've just rendered an After Effects comp in .mov format, from two source .mov files, a mask and a null object. Trouble is, of the 1:30 or so total time of the video, around 1:00 is stuck on a single frame, after which the video resumes from the point where it *should* be. I've checked and double checked all the settings, and everything seems to be OK. This is the first time this has happened to me while using AE; I'm unsure what to do.

As luck would have it, it now works. I just had to change the output format from QuickTime (.mov) to H.264@300kbps. Still haven't figured out the cause of the original issue; by the way, the RAM preview worked perfectly well, which is what surprised me most.

Yes, I am trying to install AE Through the Creative Cloud app. And yes, I have only just installed the Creative Cloud. The exact steps I am taking are:
First I click on the "apps" tab in the Creative Cloud window, this brings up the list of available trials. Next, I click on the "Try" button next to "After Effects CC (2014)", the installation only gets to 43%. The button "Installation Failed - Learn More".
So when I click on the "Lean more" button, it shows me this error.

Rendering problem - Please help!

I'm a FCE 4.0 newbie who is assembling my first presentation using stills in .tif format. I've been adding stills to the presentation, inserting them into the timeline without transitions (at the advice of a friend who said not to overtax the application). I'd gotten about 2/3 through this process (131 slides out of about 200) when the timeline color turned light orange upon adding slide 132. The previous 131 slides were still showing as green (rendered).
I've tried rendering that still, using different stills, rendering the entire presentation, and rebooting the application, all without success. I've tried deleting the Preferences, but the filenames and locations have changed since v.2 and I can't find any online instructions for locating and deleting Preferences in v.4.
FYI, I'm using a 1TB Seagate external HD as my scratch disk, so storage is not a problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to proceed from here, or at least where to find the proper Preference files to delete in v.4? I'm under a tight deadline and would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Basically, here's what's happening:
You're working in Unlimited RT mode. What this means is that your computer is trying to play back everything in realtime (normal speed), even if the application and your computer can't really handle it. Because of this, you sometimes get dropped frames. Don't worry about this - it's not that you're losing parts of your photos, but rather it's the computer's way of telling you that it is unable to play everything back at the normal speed and because of this you're not seeing every single moment of the video while editing. You can set FCE in general preferences to not display this warning, in which case it will still try to play as fast as possible but won't give you the annoying popup. Another option is to hit Option-P when you want to preview instead of the space bar or play button. This plays the video from the timeline as fast as possible without dropping frames. Finally, a third option is to set your timeline to Safe RT (you can change this setting on the left of the timeline window). When you apply certain effects to your images, the sequence will simply display in big ugly letters "UNRENDERED" when you try to play the film. Working in Safe RT has the advantage that it's very clear what needs to be rendered for smooth playback, but also the necessary disadvantage: you can't preview the project without rendering first.
Now we get to what the colored lines mean! The color green means "preview" - FCE is telling you that your computer will for the most part be able to play the clips back without rendering first. However, you may experience problems with dropped frames or choppy playback. Generally, it is always a good idea to render before watching it all the way through. ALWAYS render everything out before exporting the final project. Once rendered, the colored line above the clips turns to a light grey (or as you described it, purple). This indicates that your computer has saved a render file of the sequence and it can now be played back at full speed without dropped frames.
The "vertical purple bar" you're seeing in the canvas has nothing to do with your clips or rendering, but is simply the graphic FCE displays to let you know that your playhead is over the last frame of the sequence.
So now we get down to your questions. Everything that you've described so far is normal FCE behavior. You should have no trouble adding transitions or music, besides the fact that you may need to render again for smooth playback.
Hope that helped things make a bit more sense. It's a difficult program with a steep learning curve, so make sure to ask me to clarify if anything didn't make sense or if you need more help.

Timeline Rendering Problems - please help

I have a project already on a drive that came from a earlier version of FCP (I have 5.1)
Here is the problem...when editing, I have to consistantly render everytime I make a edit change.
The orginal item formats show the sequence presets to be 29.97 fps, frame size to (960x720) compressor DVDPRO HD 720p60
The camera was Panasonic P2 card set up.
Any ideas? ..have to render everytime I make an edit~!

PLEASE HELP!! Weird screen glitch in After Effects CS5.5?!? (Windows 7)

I was editing some videos in the trial of After Effects CS5.5, and I went to render something in full screen (I've been using it for two weeks now, and i've rendered in full screen before) and suddenly a bunch of error messages started popping up,and After Effects closed out. Now every time I open After Effects, its like the screen zooms in: I can't see my taskbar or my tools for after effects, or anything on the edges at all. Production Premiere and everything else works fine, but After Effects is always like this now. I've searched all the help centers, and google, and youtube, and I've found nothing. I also tried unistalling and reinstalling the Master Collection trial but it still came up in full screen.
PLEASE HELP I only have 12 days left on trial and I'm trying to finish one last video.

Try deleting your preferences. If that doesn't do it, Reboot, Use the Adobe Cleaner Tool, then re-install AE. If that doesn't work let us know. It's probably your preferences.

You're probably simply running out of memory to run both programs at the same time and otehr things like compressed audio/ video in the project may complicate matetrs further with hardware acceleration stuff. Not much you can do, most likely beyond the usual advice of making sure all your drivers are up to date...
