After Effects CS5.5 - Using *OLD* stabilizer?

Hello all. We recently moved up to the new after effects at work, and as much as I love the new warp stabilizer, I want to use the old version for a particular shot (with the position and rotation track points). The reason being is that I want to stabilize the shot around a particular point in the video (around somebody's eye)  rather than letting the warp stabilizer work on the shot as a whole. Obviously whenver I click on stabilize motion, the warp stabilizer opens and begins to work the shot. Has the old stabilizer feature been completely removed in favoure of this new verison, or is it just hidden somewhere?

This page in AE help covers it. There may be more info there that would be useful as well.

  • Adobe After Effects CS5.5-Warp Stabilizer analyzes but doesn't Stabilize.

First of all,Hello everyone.I'm new around here.Hope you all having a good time.
The problem is that when I hit the Stabilize Motion button, it starts to analyze in step 1 but when it finishes and skips to step 2 , stabilizing part takes just 3 second. So in the end,it doesn't stabilize the motion, doesn't do anything to the clip.So can anyone help me with that?

The most common explanation for failed motion stabilization is the user has fialed to go through the steps properly. We know this form manyyears of answering thsi question and we know from manyyears of using the tool ourselves. It can be a bit confusing the first coule fo times you try to use it but it does work and it works beautifully. So, before we go through many posts and questions and suggestions, please review the Help section one more time and try to initiate and apply the stabilizer again. Do it slowly. One step at a time.

  • After Effects CS5 DNxHD rendering problems

Hello folks, I posted this last month, but still haven't worked it out.  My problem is that everytime I try to render a quicktime from After Effects CS5 using Avid's DNxHD codec, I get this error, about 60 - 100 frames in:  "Rendering error while writing to file (path name here). An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464)  I've tried rendering to different drives, rendering with and w/out multiprocessing, with and w/out Open GL rendering, different comps / projects, and different flavors of the DNxHD codec (8 bit, 10bit, 145, 220, etc).  Here's my basic system specs:
    Win 7 Pro 64bit
    Dual 6 core Westmere Processors
    48GB Ram
    Quadro FX 3800 1.5GB (driving 2 x 24" HP monitors)
GeForce GT 240 (driving a Cintiq tablet)
I have another system, same operation system, but with dual quad core Nehalem's and 16GB Ram and a Quadro FX 3400 and it renders to DNxHD just fine.  I'm certain I have the latest codecs from Avid, and I've tried both the LE and PE versions.  Any thoughts?
    Nate

It's a bug in the CoDec itself, if I'm not mistaken. I've seen this being discussed somewhere, but can't remember the full details. I believe the issue oils down to the Avid stuff using an older version of some compiler library and not dealing correctly with some SSE stuff on some processors. You may try to toy around with the BIOS settings to suppress SSE4 and 4.1 and see if it helps. Also consider installing the .NET runtimes. They still have those magical healing poweers, as the install resolves any version conflicts that may exist with outdated system DLLs bundled with some programs. That may also help. In the long run, though, I think Avid will just have to update DNx to properly work on 64bit and those new processors...

  • Dynamic Link Audio Troubleshooting- Premier to After Effects CS5

    Hello!
My name is Alley and I've been working on a project in After Effects CS5 using dynamic linked sequences from premier. I've been in this project for a good two weeks without any major problems concerning the dynamic link. When I open the project on another computer, however, sometimes there is audio missing from some of the sequences. I look in the premier project and sure enough the audio is all there, no keyframes or anything and it plays back fine. It just won't appear in After Effects even after a render. I know it probably has something to do with the different computers but I don't know if anyone else has ever had this problem before and if you found a solution.
    • Both computers are Mac OS X Versions 10.6.6 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Cores
    • After Effects and Premier are CS5 versions, completely updated
    • There are no errors or warnings popping up within the programs
    • All Dynamic Linked sequences are 2 minutes tops although there are a multiple of them
    • Not ALL the sequences have the audio problem, it seems to be random
I can't wrap my brain around how two nearly identical computers with the same versions of both programs are getting different results with the audio in the dynamic link sequence... Help me out?

Quicktime! The versions of Quicktime and or even just some QT component/CoDec may be different between the computers. Also keep in mind, that your alternate computer may in fact require you to explicitly open the project in Premiere to conform the audio properly first. If that hasn't happened, AE may simply not be able to use some tracks as it will expect a conformed audio file. This is critical especialyl with compressed formats. It may even require you to re-render the Premiere timeline on the second computer...

  • Getting Rid Of Flicker Using After Effects CS5.5

I captured an 8mm Film by projecting the image into a 3CCD camera, then downloading the image into my computer. Then I used Pinncle Utlimate to convert the file to DVD.  However when I play the file there is a lot of flicker.  I believe this is because of the difference in the shutter rate between the 8mm film and the digital file.  I used the 1/60  for the shutter setting which is the lowest I could get on the camera. I thought I could solve this problem by loading the file into adobe After Effects CS5.5.  I cannot find any setting in the program to solve this flicker problem.  Does anyone know if this can be done??

The flicker is caused by the frame rate mismatch between the projector and the video camera. To successfully transfer film to video you need to have control over the speed of the projector. Depending on the shot you may be able to fix it a bit using Auto Color, Auto Levels, or Auto Contrast effects from the Color Correction section. I'd start off with Auto Levels. If that doesn't work try Auto Color. There are Temporal Smoothing settings that may improve things a bit and Auto Color also has Scene detection which may be useful.
Depending on the shot, you may be able to use Color Stabilizer, but if the camera is moving or there's a bunch of movement in the scene you'll have to animate the Black Point and White Point.

  • I downloaded Yosemite 10.10.2 now my after effects (CS5.5) crashes when I use an effect. Help, please.

Here's the error message(s) that I get after I attempt to use an effect in after effects cs5.5.

You're probably simply running out of memory to run both programs at the same time and otehr things like compressed audio/ video in the project may complicate matetrs further with hardware acceleration stuff. Not much you can do, most likely beyond the usual advice of making sure all your drivers are up to date...

  • Using Adobe After Effects CS5

Hi guys I need your help with this. I'm using Adobe After Effects CS5 on my iMac 06 and I just wanted to know, how exactly do I edit my movie frame by frame?
I've tried looking up on Youtube how to do this and I can't seem to find out how. Would anyone here know the answer?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I'm using adobe after effects CS5 to create a set of title's re creating Superman.
I' using this method found in the link.
    http://vimeo.com/6562241
Heres my problem, since this process requires echo to achieve it. I try and set and independent camera motion from the text while it extrudes outward. But... once the animation starts the echo ALWAYS...ALWAYS is disrupted and altered by the camera movement, whether its in a x, y , or z path. Sure i can move the camera angle and view it from there, but i cannot have the two moving independent from each other.
IF ANY ONE OUT THERE IS A WIZ AT ADOBE AFFTER EFFECTS PLEASE PLEASE RESPOND
this is SUPER ha ha frustrating
    Thank you

  • Questions about Adobe After Effects CS5 and CS5.5

I have the Adobe Design Creative Suite CS5 (Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, InDesign CS5, and Fireworks CS5) and was going to order an old copy of After Effects CS5 for my iMac. However when I was about to order on an online store, I notice that there is a CS5 and a CS5.5 version for After Effects. I would like to know which version is better and if I get Adobe After Effects CS5.5 version will I be able to intergrate with CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash?
Alos is there a way for to order a copy of Adobe After Effects CS5(or CS5.5 version) on the Adobe online store? I don't want to order the CS6 version of After Effects because I'm afraid I will not be able to intergrate it with my CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash.

You should get After Effects CS6. There is no reason to be concerned about using After Effects Effects CS6 with Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop CS5.

  • After Effects not using all my VRAM?

So, I've just upgraded my GTX 460 SE to a GTX 770 4GB and cut my 81 minute render time on one project down to 23 minutes which is awesome, but I have an issue where AE CS5.5 isn't allowing me to use more than 800MB of VRAM regardles of how many models I'm using. A single 300k poly model takes me to 700MB (Using Element 3D plugin). Adding 20 more models ranging from 20k to 400k doesn't change my VRAM usage at all. It just stays around 700MB.
Do I have to change some setting to get After Effects to see that I have more VRAM that can be used to store more models? I'm not asking for it to completely fill all 4GB, but I was expecting it to at least take advantage of 2 to 3GB. My old 1GB card would fill up to 900MB as I boosted the number of models and would scale down as I removed models. Thanks in advance for any help!
    System specs:
    i7-3930k OC'd to 4.5GHz
    GTX 770 4GB GPU
    16GB 1866 RAM (upgrading to 48GB soon)
SSD for OS and programs only (no games)
    SSD for scratch and media
HDD for audio and lower res media
    Dual 23" 1080 monitors (HP 23xi)

Alright, so I've done some more tests and I found out that I had to set the fast previews to Adaptive Resolution -- Open GL Off. Now my GPU stores up to exactly 2GB (the value I set my texture memory to). So it looks like if I can set my texture memory higher I'll also be able to take a greater advantage of my GPU. However, After Effects CS5.5 won't let me increase the texture memory any higher than 2000MB. Is there a workaround for this or is After Effects just not capable of using more than 2GB of VRAM?
Edit: Did some more tests. For some reason 2GB seems to be the limit for 1080 video, but bumping up to a 4K comp got me to 4GB very quickly. So it looks like the high quality 3D models I was adding didn't take up as much VRAM as I thought they would. Even better than that is after changing the fast preview to Adaptive Resolution I can now have 1000 low to medium poly count models and move around the scene in real time, no lag at all. Still not sure why having Open GL on causes things to slow down so much though. Maybe because Element 3D uses their own Open GL renderer and the After Effects Open GL renderer starts to conflict? No idea, either way I'm far more than satisfied with my findings.
Edit 2: Ran some tests with a 4k aircraft model in a 1080 comp. It takes about 1.5GB of VRAM to load it, but once I run a RAM preview it takes up 3.5GB. Looks like it all depends on the models you use in your projects. If you aren't using crazy high res/polycount models then you'll be fine with 3GB, or maybe even 2GB of VRAM, but as soon as you start using high res models, especially high res models of very large/complicated models like large planes, people, cars, etc. then more VRAM definitely makes a difference. I hope this helps someone else down the road!

  • After Effects CS5.5

I'm having a very frustrating time with a bug in AfterEffects CS5.5 as it crashes every time I select the colour picker tool. A problem that Adobe is responding to on these forums saying it happens sometimes but are not looking into it because they are not supporting CS5.5 on Apple's new Yosemite OSX. This is something which I find particularly lousy of Adobe – since the software is not that old, and was quite expensive. Adobe's tactic of ruthlessly phasing out the older CS software and not sufficiently supporting those who have spent quite a lot of money in very recent times on their tools.
I'll need a few years worth more from my tools before I can justify paying out even more to sign up with CC. I reckon I'm not the only one in that boat.
    Anyhow...
Many are having these issues since they upgraded their Mac's OS or those who have recently purchased a new Apple computer, already have them with Yosemite OSx already installed.
    The question I have is:
Is it better to contact Apple and try and install their older operating system, one that was worked well with CS5.5? (would anyone know which OS is best able to run After Effects CS5.5?)
    OR
Is it better to upgrade to CS6, or is THAT a big risk not knowing if its even going to work OK on Yosemite with little or no support from Adobe?

I certainly understand your frustration. AE used to be really expensive. I know because I paid for it for years! However, I don't know of that many software companies that would do an update to make four-year-old/three-version-old software run on a new OS. Thus, I'm not all that perturbed that CS5.5 doesn't work well on Yosemite, but then, I also haven't upgraded to Yosemite (for a variety of reasons).
Due to a the issues folks have been having with Yosemite (not just with AE), I would suggest running an older version of the Mac OS. However, you can download a trial of CS6 to see how well it works on your system with Yosemite before you go all crazy trying to downgrade. Make sure you update it to 11.0.4 before you try to run it. Note: you can have various versions of AE installed at the same time without issue, so you don't have to uninstall CS5.5 to test this out.. I'm running CS5, CS6, CC, and CC 2014 all on the same machine at home.

  • Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 2.0 1080p50 and Premiere Pro/After Effects CS5.5

    Hi all,
I have a new Sony NEX-5N and have shot some test 1080p50 video using it.
On my quest for some new editing/production software to close the loop I have just downloaded and installed a Trial Version of CS5.5 Production Premium.
I am able to load my video files into Premiere Pro.
However, when I attempt to open the Video File in After Effects, I recieve the following Error message:
After Effects error: '00023.MTS' cannot be imported - this '.mts' file is damaged or unsupported.
I have tried renaming the extension to .MPG, .M4V, .M2TS all with exactly the same result.
Perhaps this is a limitation of the Trial Version or perhaps a limitation of After Effects CS5.5.  Is anyone able to advise?
As extra information I include below the TEXT output from MediaInfo for the file I am able to load into Premiere Pro CS5.5 but not After Effects.
    Thanks.

I just recorded 4 seconds of a clock pendulum swinging, surprisingly the file was 20Mb!?!?  Anyway, I have made the file available for download at the following location:
    http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/00032.MTS
You can browse the directory at http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/ if you need to "right-click" and save as.
I am hoping it is a limitation of the trial as I have noticed a few other "gotchas" with the trial version.
Thanks for the advice about video format, I have noticed that my computer (Core 2 Duo) is very slow to process the H.264 stream, PremierePro cannot play the 30sec stream in realtime (starts to stutter around 23sec) and After Effects starts its stutter almost immediately (both just playing the stream with no effects) - that said WindowsMediaPlayer has no problem playing the same stream at full speed.  I am however reluctant to do any transcoding except to a lossless format as it seems counter intuitive - but this will be the subject of another post, as I don't want to clutter this one.
    Thanks again.

  • Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) won't start After Effects CS5.5 because it's a powerpc app!?

I've had CS 5.5 Master Collection installed on my Mac since it came out. All the CS 5/5.5 apps I've used up to now have worked fine, in 64-bit mode (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, InDesign). Now I need to use After Effects, but I can't get it to start.
First it said it couldn't rename a Workspaces.xml file in the preferences directory in my home folder. In fact, there was no such file there at all. Nothing to rename. So, I uninstalled After Effects using its uninstaller; then reinstalled it from the install DVDs.
Now, it fails on startup saying the After Effects CS5.5 application cannot be run because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. True: OS X no longer runs apps that require Rosetta. CS 5.5 is does not require Rosetta; it's compatible with Lion. The OS 10.7 Known Issues KB article says nothing about After Effects: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html?promoid=JBQYY
So...what's going on? I need this thing working for a project with a deadline! I don't get it. Anybody seen this before? (I didn't find anything in the discussions about it, nor Google...)

Interesting article, but I knew I was leaving PowerPC apps behind when I moved to OS 10.7, and Adobe claims that After Effects CS 5.5 is fully compatible with Lion. But you must be right about prefs; there's gotta be something causing the Mac OS to think this version of CS is ancient...
Since my initial message, I've tried and failed to find any details about how to select the right prefs to delete. I also ran Disk Utility to repair permissions on my system drive. That got rid of the PowerPC error:) Now on startup AE says mediacore fails to initialize. I can choose to quit or continue on that error, but continuing just results in another error that says dynamiclinkmanager unexpectedly quit, and then AE locks up and I have to force quit it. Not much progress!
No other answers on this so far... Before I uninstall the entire Creative Suite and then delete all Adobe system and hidden files everywhere, any more suggestions? Or a list of the right prefs I should trash?

  • Is After Effects CS5.5 PowerPC-only? (Installation Problem)

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium on a new (2012) Mac Mini (Intel Core i7 processor) running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  Most of the apps installed correctly, but After Effects CS5.5 gives me the following error when I try to launch:
You can't open the application "Adobe After Effects CS5.5" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app (along with Flash Catalyst, which also fails), but the error remains. What's the deal here? Is it an installation problem, or is After Effects CS5.5 truly incompatible with my new hardware/OS?  Any suggestions appreciated.

Okay, answered my own question.  I was installing on a Mac Mini, which doesn't have an optical drive, so I was using a remote optical drive to install across my network.  Turns out that confused the installer.  I ended up copying the install DVD onto a flash drive and installing from that.  Problem went away.
