After Effects CS5 not Opening Properly - Mac

Hi, After effects CS5 on my Mac seems to not be opening properly. This is what happens:
     1. I click on After effects icon in my dock
     2. After Effects starts to load
     3. when finished loading only the top thin grey bar with the "x" and "-" buttons apprear. No layout or anything!
I have tried uninstalling after effects and then re-installing it back onto my Mac but the same problem still exists.
I have tried everything to get my exspencive program (After Effects CS5) back up and running but still no success, So if you have any possible answers please help me out.

i haven't used after effects in a year...but in that time i have installed Yosemite
is this the cause of the app to not open?

Now, I have heard of some folks getting CS5.5 (and maybe CS5) to run on Yosemite, but without further explanation from you on what sort of behavior you're experiencing, nobody could really help. If you paid to upgrade every new version, the subscription model actually saves a bit of money. It's also less hassle and much easier to deal with than a huge lump-sum payment to upgrade. Plus you get all the cool cloud features too, like being able to save a project to your cloud folder and opening it on a different machine somewhere else.

After Effects CS5 not rendering properly

I've just rendered an After Effects comp in .mov format, from two source .mov files, a mask and a null object. Trouble is, of the 1:30 or so total time of the video, around 1:00 is stuck on a single frame, after which the video resumes from the point where it *should* be. I've checked and double checked all the settings, and everything seems to be OK. This is the first time this has happened to me while using AE; I'm unsure what to do.

As luck would have it, it now works. I just had to change the output format from QuickTime (.mov) to H.264@300kbps. Still haven't figured out the cause of the original issue; by the way, the RAM preview worked perfectly well, which is what surprised me most.

After Effects CS5 is crashing my Mac when I trim a clip

I don't have much to explain this further but After Effects CS5 is crashing my Mac when I trim a clip. It completely turns off my Mac when I trim a clip. The only other similar thing is Photoshop CS5 is also doing crashing my Mac when I resize large images. Small images are fine but large 300dpi images crashes it without warning. Don't know what to do.
I have 8gigs of Ram and am running 27" iMac Core i5
Any help would be much appreciated!

Are you running these two program together?
I would think so.OK you are probably running them both as 64 bit that is great that they run 64 bit and can use more RAM and even better they actually do use more RAM.
So the solution is probably more RAM, don't run them to together or lower the expectations of Photoshop and AE.
That way they won't try to use all the RAM to do this work. It will probably do the wrk pretty fast but not as fast if you had more RAM maybe.
Also AE and PS on an iMac, what about your scratch disk. Is it a very fast external drive and how is it connected?
If you don't have a fast internal drive say with at least a 32MB buffer running at 7200rpm then there you go a real contributing ffactor.
To be honest you need both more RAM and a fast start up disk and a fast external scratch.
The new 2TB drives by Seagate run at 7200 rpm and have 64 MB cache which s as important as the rotation. You can possibly make a Raptor an external scratch as well at 300 GB they are probably not arge enough s a start up.
Those are my thoughts.
16 GB of RAM a larger faster internal drive lower the performance and memory setting as well.

After effect CS5 crash opening

Hello,
Installed the trial of CS5,
and few days after using it got this crash opening message.
Unable to open after effect
I uninstalled all the suite.
re-installed > same crash.
reboot
un-installed the Black Magic extreme hd driver > same crash
reboot
un-installed the video card driver, put some new and fresh one > same crash
reboot
Went to a nice trip into the registry > remove all the un-necessary bits lefts over by the CS5 suite in the system.
reboot
re-install the suite.
HA! >> it works !!
great...
2 days later >   SAME ERROR MESSAGE !!!    SAME CRASH !!!!....
hum.....
what do you say adobe ??

because of the pluggins situation i kept CS4 to do the work.
and when sapphire released the CS5 version > OK ! we purchased the license for it !
I barly used since then, focusing on finishing some prod with a safe CS4 .
And then today !...

After Effects will not open

I have a downloaded trial of After Effects CC and I'm only on day 4. I am half way through a project and have taken my laptop home to work over the weekend. When I try to open AE it just comes up with a message "Adobe After Effects CC 2014.1.1 has stopped working" and prompts me to close the program. It worked fine plugged in at work but not at home. I dont know if it's a coincindence or not? I have rebooted, but nothing. Funily enough the Media Encoder comes up with the same problem if I try that too. AArrgh!

I used a below path for open photoshop cs5 in mac book,
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Adobe Photoshop CS5.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Photoshop CS5
At First time when native process is call one instance of photoshop is created , but after that for each native call photoshop instance is created , so as per my think it should be open only one instance of photoshop and if photoshop is already opened then for native call this photoshop is focused . c
So i need some solutions or direction to solve this problem

My friend just got me a new graphics card, a Radeon HD 6750, and I was curious if AE could still utilize the card for some OpenGL accelerated rendering despite not being on the list Adobe has posted.

No. It can't. Sorry. You just have to forget about using Open GL to accelerate AE rendering. It has never worked well in the past, and it doesn't work well now.
Here's a revealing fact: when they render in AE, many, MANY Adobe employees make sure Open GL acceleration is turned off for rendering. Perhaps all of them do that.
Now: considering that this is a forum on the Adobe web site, which is constantly scrutinized by Adobe employees, it won't take very long at all for someone to contradict me if my so-called "revealing fact" is incorrect, will it?

After Effects CS5 cannot install in MAC OS X? Please Help.

I have downloaded aftereffects cs5 trial version but when i double click on .dmg file it says "not recognized". What i do? please help... Is there any problem in this trial file or something other problem i have???

Yes. I can download a $5 rental movie from iTunes that's 3 or 4 GBs in less than half an hour, but thousands of dollars worth of Adobe software around the same size takes days. I don't know if it's just unusual high load, or lack of international mirrors, but Adobe really need to sort that out! For the bucks their customers are spending it's crazy to have such slow download speed, especially considering their position in the web content and creation market!

I have an error message: after Effetcs crashed previously when initializing Open GL. consult the manufacturer of your graphics card to get a compatible OpenGL driver.
I download drivers but it did not change anything, I understand not.
Photoshop works, and also 3d.

After Effects CS5 locks up

Hi,
After effects CS5 starts up fine, but when I click any where on the top menu bar or use a short-cut it locks up. I have to force quit once this happens.

If I open AE and not a project it will lock up when I click in the top menu bar.
If I open a project I can use the tools and windows, but if I click the top menu bar or use a short cut that is from the top menu bar it will lock up.

After Effects CS5 crashes on Launch 'memory to intialize PSL'?

Just installed a trail version of AE CS5 on one mac, works fine (renders big comps and quick). Then installed it on another machine, but when I try and launch CS5, it crashes with the message "not enough memory to initialize PSL (83:3)".
Both Macs are 2x2.8GHz Quad-Cores running OS 10.5.8. Both have around 90gbs of free space, the one that does launch CS5 has 4gbs of ram and the one that won't launch CS5 has 16gbs of ram!
Anyone got any ideas or experiencing the same?

I experienced the exact same issue. I had received some client files in cs5 that needed editing....i was still running cs4.
For some reason After Effects cs5 installed on my mac running osX 10.5.4. It requires osX 10.5.8. Adobe, why didn't this give me a warning?
Now, I don't know if it was the os update, or during that process it reset something critical......but after the operating system update the error no longer appeared.

After Effects CS5 Mac says "Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components...

the error message is "QuickTime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly."
And when I open After Effects CS5 on MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 running 10.6.3, it is basically not functionaly, because it will not open any quicktime movies without an error message.
Quicktime is installed on this mac.
I have run permissions and run diskwarrior, and it has not solved this problem.
Any ideas?

There are a few things that cause After Effects to report that QuickTime is not installed.
One is the obvious one: If QuickTime 7.x is not installed, After Effects will report that QuickTime is not installed.
The next most common reason is quite different: The TCP communication with the QuickTime server is blocked, so After Effects thinks that QuickTime isn't there at all. The fix for this to remove the blockage in communication. Sometimes the blockage is because of an aggressive firewall program, which sees the TCP communication and stops it. If this is the case, then you can either turn the firewall software off or specifically allow the QT32 Server component to communicate; instructions for letting a specific process communicate are different for each firewall program, so you'll have to look in the documentation for your security software for information about doing that. Another reason is that QuickTime can fail to initialize fully because it gets stuck loading a badly written importer component.
