After Effects CS6 super long render times.

I am trying to render multiple 30 second long compositions and the renders are reaching over 5 hours each. There is nothing special in any of the compositions. I have rendered these same compositions in the past with minor changes in AE CS5 and they finished in seconds using the Open GL renderer. I understand CS6 uses a different engine for rendering. I have ensured my video card is in the supported list (added it), and ray tracing is set to the GPU. I triple checked all the drivers and everything is up to date. I have tried every combination of settings I can think of with no results. Help!
System Specs:
i7-3930K
GTX 770
32gb ram
Windows 7 64bit

Five hours is not an unusual render time for a 30-second composition, depending on the details of the composition.

  • After Effects CS6 Launches to Render Cue after 11.04.2 Update Yosemite

After Effects CS6 Launches to Render Cue on OS X Yosemite after 11.04.2 update prior to this update it wouldn't even launch. Everything is grayed out as well. I am running a fully licensed version.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 M

You're launching the render engine and not the full version of AE. Make sure you're selecting the right app to launch. And if you're super-sure that your shortcut or whatever you're clicking on is the one to launch the full version, make sure you don't have the render engine txt file somewhere you don't want it.
A blank file named ae_render_only_node.txt in one of the following locations (depending on the user account type) will result in AE launching the render engine only:
    Mac OS: /Users/[username]/Documents/ /Users/Shared/Adobe/
    Windows: C:Users/[username]/My Documents C:Users/Public/Public Documents/Adobe
Also, since this is immediately after updating Mac OSX, you're probably going to need to fix permissions: fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications

  • After Effects CS6 no longer supported?

I just finished a chat with a customer service representative.
I own a perpetual license of Adobe Production Premium CS6 that I've been using for a while. Then I made the HUGE mistake to move to CC and try it out. My subscription has ended and I decided to move back to CS6 (took me forever to convert all my files to CS6 compatible though...). All my apps are working really good... Except of After Effects.
Every time I open the program it opens a window message that reads:
    RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION
Go to the Subscription Manager to renew your subscription for Creative Cloud and continue using your product uninterrupted...
The customer service representative told me that I do have to renew my subscription or buy a new license... is that for real?
So in the end... even if I own a perpetual licence for a lot of the programs I use on my everyday life (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects) I still need to pay rent to be able to use After Effects? Can somebody please give me an answer? I'll greatly appreciate this.

Unless your license was acquired as part of some special educational or other similar arrangement, if you paid full price directly for the license you should still retain the license and the ability to make full use of it.  You might try contacting Adobe support again to get clarification.

  • After Effects CS6 fails to render and I dont know why?

I'm fairly new with After Effects and my problem is that when I am trying to render my movie, it fails to render at the exact same point every time. The point where it fails is when my 1st video is transitioning to my 2nd video in the movie. And when I try to RAM preview my movie, it wont render parts where one video transitions to another video. Earlier today there was an error coming up saying that frames could not render simultaneously and that I needed to fix my multiprocessing settings. I'm using both Quicktime Movie and MP4 files in this movie. Here are my Memory and Multiprocessing settings: http://gyazo.com/4974772d0a104f01c19257d75b790155

  • After Effects CS6 no longer works now I've installed Yosemite.

Hi since installing Yosemite on my 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 Late 2013 Mac Pro with 16 GB of Ram. I crashes on start up. I reinstalled and then updated to 11.0.4 and it still crashes although I think the error has changed. When I restart I get the error:
    Last log message was: <140735270892288> <DynamicLink> <5> /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/dynamiclink/CS6/dynamiclinkmanager.app
This is a big problem as After Effects is key to my business and right now I cannot use it.
    Please can you help?

  • After Effects CS6 no longer reads my XDCam files

I own a Sony PMW-EX1. Everything was working fine until recently. I tried to use Dynamic Link from Premiere to After Effects and I get the following error, "After Effects error: file '132_2250_01.MP4' cannot be imported - this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported" and all I see where my footage is supposed to be is color bars. I tried to direct import it as well with no luck. Does anyone know what is going on?

Something busted up your system's CoDecs. Reinstall the program after running the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, get rid of any rubbish CoDec packs, reinstall Quicktime.

  • Super long render times every time I edit

    Hey all,
I would really appreciate a quick response to this. Just for some background I am using PP Cs5.5 on a Macbook Pro with 8 GB of ram and am using .mp4 files.
I have brought in an hour and a half long clip and I applied some color correction to it naturally it need to render and it took 7 hours to render. Now that it is finally rendered out every time i move the clip in the time line or make an edit it needs to take 7 hours to render every thing out again!
Please let me know if I am doing something wrong here or what it could be.
    Thanks for the help.

    OK.
Edits will change things, thus requiring new render files.  But just moving it in the same sequence should keep things rendered.

  • Super long render times for easy stuff.

    Hi there,
I'm new to the Final Cut Express HD (3.51) world and it seems like rendering takes unusually long.
I have the horsepower to handle it (new MacBook Pro 15 inch with 2GB RAM and LaCie external FW800 drive), but it just really bogs down when I change any of the parameters of the effects I have going on (feathered crop, motion, motion blur, etc.). And, this IS only a slideshow of pictures I'm working on here.
Anyway, any advice or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

you can also try reducing you resolution settings to 50% in your timeline settings, while you're working on your moves/pans. Although, not as pretty, this will definitely quicken the pace. Depending on how familiar you are with the images, you can reduce even more, (33-25%). Once you feel like you've nailed your Ken Burns, kick the reso. back up to 100%, render, and take a look.

  • After Effects CS6 cuts a render short when I open an unrelated Premiere Pro file

While in the middle of an AE render, I lunched Premiere and opened an unrelated file to the clip I'm rendering in AE. as son as the project opened, my AE rendered chimed as if finished, but it was actually cut short.
Anyone know what could be causing this?
I'm on a Mac, running Snow Leopard.
    Thanks.

    Here you go.
    Thanks.

  • After effects CS6 installation 64 bit required

I am installing After Effects CS6 for the first time, and receive an installation error message telling me that a 64 bit  machine is required. I guess I have a 32 bits. Is there another version that works on 32 bit?

Here are the system requirements, the answer is AE-CS6 needs 64-bit CPU:

  • Insanely slow rendering times, almost 60x longer | After Effects CS6

I'm using Adobe After Effects CS6 and have been messing around with some intro making. This being said, the clips that I have in AE are 5-10 seconds long.
My composition includes 2 lights, a camera, 3d text, a shockwave, a background (w/Magic Bullet Looks effect) and a song. All together, it is 5 seconds long. I render it out using AVI w/sound and it says it will take nearly 3 1/2 hours. I talked to a friend who is much better at intro making then me and includes many more layers and his renders take 3-15 minutes. It's an insane difference! I must be doing something wrong but I don't understand what it is.
    System Specs:
    Intel i5-3570
    EVGA GTX 770 4gb
    8gb Ram
Western Digital 1TB (582 GB Free, this is where the file is being saved to.)
Samsung Evo PRO 128gb SSD (This is where AE is located.)
    Windows 7
Thanks for any help, it's very much appreciated.

Before you go through all those resources just to goose the render speed, here's something you can do right away: turn off multiprocessing (render multiple frames simultaneously) and turn off any hardware acceleration.  With just 4 lousy gigs of memory, you can't use multiprocessing, and AE uses very little hardware acceleration.
Then get yourself some more RAM: think about at least 16 gigs.
And THEN look at those resources, or you'll really get lost in AE.

  • After Effects CS6 - render files huge!

Ok I am tying myself in knots here.
I have a 7 second text animation on a plain background in After Effects CS6 which I want to export so I can use it in Premiere Pro CS6 withan alpha channel so i can superimpose it over video. The file is 1080P 25 because that matches my video. the first time I rendered it it came out at 89Mb which was fine. But I wanted to tweak the text positioning so I did that - now every time I render the file is around 1.5Gb!
I am using Windows so i can't render Quicktime with an alpha channel which means I have to use avi but what settings should I use? (Avi is the only format which allows me to export RGB + alpha).
I have to say that I have used many video programs in my life but I find After Effects the single most unituitive piece of software I have ever encountered. Why can't it give you an indication of how big your render file is likely to be to gvie youa t least some clue as to what settings to use?

    That is not correct.
You can install QuickTime on Windows and use QuickTime for output from After Effects.

  • After Effects CS6 render problem with exactly one frame or exactly at one point in the timeline.

I've recently tried to render a project in After Effects CS6 but everytime I render the render fails at exaclty one frame or a time in the timeline, in this frame or point in timeline I have a composition with the following effects: Twixtor Pro and inside that composition I have the video with the following effects: Motion Tiles and Wave Warp. I rendered the project in H.264 format with a 8 bitrate. I tried to fix this even by trying to render the project as a TIFF Sequenece but the render keeps failing and the final output is only the part of the video until that exact frame. I have caps lock on to try to speed up my render. Any help would be appreaciated and let me know if you need more information and i'll try to give you more.

Set your work area to about 5 frames before the fail and 5 frames after and see if you get a fail.
If you get a fail then start turning off a layer at a time until you find the culprit. Let us know what's going on there.
A screenshot of the timeline with all properties revealed may also give us some ideas.

  • After Effects CS6 render fails!! Help!!!

    Hi,
I have an issue with my Adobe After Effects CS6. When I try to render a compostion that contains video and audio, the render fails. I need your help very urgently.

  • After Effects CS6 render-only: Custom output modules?

With After Effects CS5.5, we've been able to include custom output module templates (so, aside from the default Lossless, TIFF Sequence with Alpha, etc.).  We're having trouble doing the same with CS6.  Is there any way to make this work?

this explains what we are trying to use, non-royalty-bearing mode.

please understand we are using a render queue to remotely execute aerender from the commandline.

this is the command that is entered:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS6\Support Files\aerender.exe" -project "\\nas3\graphics\jobs\13912_SHIELD\cmp\BB\BB_CS6_Test2\BB_CS6_Test2.aep" -comp "HeroComp" -output "\\nas3\graphics\jobs\13912_SHIELD\images\BB\BB_CS6_Test2\BB_CS6_Test2.[####].sgi"   -v "ERRORS_AND_PROGRESS" -RStemplate "Full" -OMtemplate "SGI_Premultiplied" -s 11 -e 20
if we place ae_render_only_node.txt into the appropriate folder this is the error that is generated:
    has video RAM(MB): 0

PROGRESS: Adding specified comp to Render Queue
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.

if we register the software aerender correctly renders the frames.
note: the sgi file format does not have codec licensing restrictions such as mpeg2.
