After Effects exports picture as a black frame?

I just graded a simple picture in AE and after I exported the picture I went to look at the image file and all It was was a black frame. I'ved tried different formats, and I've tried exporting it as a .psd for photoshop but it still won't work. Can somebody help me with this?

You have not provided proper information on your file and settings nor your system. Based on your tags we can assume that you are using MB Colorista and then you may simply exhaust its limits or there is a general issue with your graphics hardwre, since the effect uses GPU acceleration.

  • After Effects CC 2014 problem: Image from frame from the last Premiere CC-After Effects link permanently burned into new project compositions.

One frame from one of the clips I sent from Premiere to After Effects through "replace with After Effects composition" was permanently burned in After Effects and now it appears in every new composition of every new project I create as the background of such composition.
For example, I sent from Premiere a clip of a building to After Effects for color correction with Finesse, and warp stabilization and then after rendering, finishing, and closing all the applications, now, every time I open After Effects for any other project, whether already-created or brand-new, every existing or newly created composition (in a Mac Command N) you see the image of the building as the background of the composition.  If you create a new composition, while it remains empty of any layers, you see the image of the building.  If you have an already-created composition with layers, when you turn off all the eyes of the layers, you would expect to see black (nothing) in the composition window (if that's the color you assigned to be as the background of the comp), but instead you see the building.  If you change the color of the comp's background in Composition Settings, you still see the building as the background.  If you render such empty composition (no layers) you render out the image of the building, not black.  I tried clicking everywhere and going through the preferences, and even uninstalling the application and re-installing it, but it seems to be permanently burned in into every comp's background.
Please, any ideas of what's going on and how to get rid of it?
Thanks so much for your help,
    RR.

Thanks so much Dave.  It fixed the problem.

  • After Effects export as Premiere Pro project weird PAL/NTSC problem

This post is not a question. It's here, because I've found a solution and want to share with You.
I've noticed a strange problem during export from AE to PR.
    Ok, here I go.
    AE = After Effects CS3
    PR = Premiere Pro CS3
My AE project is D1/DV PAL Widescreen. It is a sequence of slideshow with some video effects applied. I needed that sequence in PR. I was happy to find a new feature - export as premiere pro project (new for me - i am pretty rookie ;). Thaks to this feature I have saved most of my disk space that is always to low. But, like every first try, this one was not perfect too. I had two problems.
    Problem no 1.
I opened exported project in PR and saw message like "video effect AE.CC COMPOSITE not present".
Whole composition was working perfectly except that one video effect that was fundamental for this project.
*Solution was as easy as it can be. I've just copied that effect from AE plugin folder to PR plugin folder. It worked for this.
    Problem no 2
Like says AE Help "When you export an After Effects project as an Adobe Premiere Pro project, Adobe Premiere Pro uses the settings from the first composition in the After Effects project for all subsequent sequences."
Project settings in PR was exactly D1/DV PAL Widescreen. So where is the problem You ask?
Therefore why my Timeline works in NTSC 29,97 frame rate if all settings match PAL 25 frame rate?! I don't know.
*Solution to fix this annoying bug is to create a new project in PR with all settings for D1/DV PAL Widescreen in this case. Than just import that PR project exported from AE. Now timeline works like it should in PAL frame rate.
    That's it.
I hope this post is helpful, because I didn't find any answer for this here in Adobe forum.

Who's says that Microsoft can't debug?
I used msconfig, first disabling startup items, -same result.
Enabled all startup items, disabled all non-microsoft services - AE worked!
I re-enabled each service in turn until AE crashed.
The fault was related to an item for a video streaming device I have in my house.  It was Monsoon-multimedia's Vulkano Service.  Sometimes under the old name of Hava, this is an app that acts like a sling-box to send my Cable TV to my screen.  It does load a couple of virtual devices in device manager, and uses a proprietary codec.
I uninstalled the vulkano streamer application and rebooted the external Vulkano device.  I reinstalled the Vulkano and verified it connected to the device and could stream.  Once it did, I tried AE again and IT WORKED!
I wonder if simply rebooting the Vulkano would have fixed it.  Its like opening the garage door to turn on the refridgerator.
    Thanks for the help!

  • After effect export

Hi, i'm new to this after effect software...and i really enjoy exploring it to start a training in it...now i downloaded a free trial version of AE 10.0.1.19 to follow up on a few tutorials i have a mac osx 10.6.7 with

Now thats were i have my first question to this software. If i open a new fresh file i only see 3 options to shoose from to export (see picture)
So i thought...maybe this is like this when you dont have a actual compleet project thats why i been onvideohive to have a free test sample but there i seem to have the same problem. (see picture)
Is there something i do wrong here ?
I'm new at this so sorry that i maybe ask stupied questions..but it cannot be that hard to export it when the tutorials speek of File/export/shoose your disired format...

  • After Effects--Composition not using entire image frame??

    Hello,
I'm very new to After Effects so I'm sorry if this is a very simple question. I've Googled it and I think maybe I'm using incorrect terminology because I haven't found anything that describes what is happening. So, I've taken a screen shot to hopefully help illustrate my issue.
I'm using After Effects CC - 2014.1 Release on a Late 2013 Mac Pro. Trying to piece together an animation render from Autodesk Maya.
Right now I'm using a test render so that I can figure out the import settings for when the final one is finished rendering. In this test there are 94 images, each intended to be one "frame" in a 24 frames per second animation. I think I have altered these settings correctly as it seems to be about the correct length (94 "frames" / 24 fps = 3.9167 or 3:55 seconds)
The problem I'm running into is that After Effects is only showing a small viewport of the actual images. I've outlined in the bright green dashed line the approximate actual image size and where in the image it is showing in After Effects. All of the images are the same size and same resolution, and they are all being shown only in this small window.
How can I change the settings to have the final animation show the entirety of the frame? Obviously it's showing such a small area that it won't work for me-- I really need all of that missing information shown.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

What size movie does Maya expect? If it's conventional HD, 1920x1080, you must scale your images to fit the comp size. If you need a comp that is 4k you must change the properties of the comp. they are both easy to do but require a bit experience with the AE interface. Start at the beginning of the basic tutorials that we refer to around here.
and welcome to the family. AE is hard. Really hard.

  • After Effects: MP RAM Vorschau Problem bei Frame-Interpolationen

    Hallo Zusammen,

  • After Effects Exporting Audio

    Hello all,
So here's the deal, I have a 12mins composition with 4 different videos going on at the same time.  However, the sound has to be linked with only one of the video while the other 3 are silent.  So I did all the fades in the timeline and everything should be fine.  The problem is exporting it.  I first tried the AME and the video renders fine but there's no audio.  I tried all kinds of format and nothing would do.
Then I tried with AE's built-in rendering system and this time it always stops at around 2:35 with no pop-up or anything.  It simply says: Failed at 2:35:14.  Also, if I change the format of the audio, the time when it fails changes.  There is nothing special happening at 2:35 so it's not like it's encountering something crazy.
I also tried rendering sound only and the same problems occurred.  Tried exporting to an external hard drive, tried everything I can think of basically...  To me, it feels like the audio file gets too big for after effects or something.
I'm out of solutions and I need desperately need help.  I'm relatively new to all this stuff and I don't understand the issue.
    Any tips, ideas, or solutions?
    Thanks a lot,
    Phil

We can't understand it, either. You're describing a blue elefant under water and have not provided any exact info about your files, your system, render settings etc. If they are embedded audio streams, splice them out. if they are MP3s, convert them to WAV. Otherwise do the audio mixing in another program like Premiere or Audition. Of all the programs in the world, I can think of few programs that are more inapt at audio processing than AE...

  • Menu from After Effects to Encore has a black screen in between

I created a menu in Encore that I sent to After Effects to animate.
All is good except when I import the After Effects animated menu to Encore to link to the Encore menu a black screen appears.
How can I achieve a seamless transition?
I hope someone there knows the answer as it is driving me bonkers.
    Thanks

...problem is, this error occurs when I have ONLY After Effects open.  No other applications.  I even shut down AE before using PP.
I could see how if there was slow import speed or freezing/crashing that this would be a processing or memory issue.  I even have a processor/RAM monitor widget that doesn't show a lot going on during the composition importing/copy&pasting.
But in the process, I either get:
    - a new premiere project (via dynamic link) that's blank
    - a composition that will import but not open in a timeline
    - copied layers from AE that are basically blank ("media disconnected" even though the media works in AE)
I'm going to take a look at a few things once I get back to my PC.  Maybe I don't have some settings right.
    Thanks for your help, Dave.
    Anyone else have any ideas?

  • After Effects export/render time inconsistency issue

Hi there, just a quick run down on my system (as outlined in the information to include in my post)
    Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core I7 2600k (Weak volt clock @ 3.9ghz)
    RAM: 16GB (4x4) RIPJAWS X
Primary HDD: OCZ Revo Drive X2 240GB
Secondary HDD: OCZ Vertex 2 240GB
    GPU 1: Nvidia Gainward GTX580 Phantom (3GB DDR5)
    GPU 2: Nvidia Gainward GTX580 Phantom (3GB DDR5)
I think thats about the necessary info relevant to this..
Now my issue is, I have videos which are ~ 40 seconds - 1 minute in length, and to render/export the entire video in LOW quality (i.e. 0) takes upto 4 times longer than to render the video at 10 (max quality).
I know people can argue 'be happy its faster' but its more the problem that the low quality is slower - I need it fast and poor quality just to check up on changes I make.
A single 5 second scene takes ~3 minutes in maximum quality, yet a single scene at lowest quality takes ~ 10 minutes.
I have adjusted settings and such which have been on youtube and read about around the web, including one which would accelerate the first 10% of the export to a few seconds worth, then bottleneck and take tenfold longer to render the other 90%, so that was largely a useless adjustment too.
    Just a heads up, I'm using CS5, not 5.5.

Umm, sorry, but again, that's as productive as saying that your undies don't fit when we don't know your size... We need the exact settings. And not to point out the obvious: Exporting to SWF from AE? RLY? That's just godawful. All AE does is create a JPEG sequence embedded in an SWF with a few things possibly remaining vectors. How do you even dream of judging performance, when most of this is dependent on your Flash Player performance, anyway? Again, al lof this makes zero sense (to me, anyway). If you need to verify video playback, use a commonly accepted format like H.264 or WMV that plays to spec in most media players. Everything is else is guaranteed to mislead and confuse you and you'll forever be pulling out your hair trying to fix the problems you created for yourself.

  • After Effects RAM needs 2 or more frames to playback

    ADOBE,
IT'S TIME TO FIX THIS ****, IMMEDIATELY!
I read a couple of forums dated months ago.  This problem needs to be in an update immediately, goddammit:(

If this is the RAM leak that's been mentioned before that happens in CC 2014 when scrubbing the timeline with audio, the fix is in an update that's coming within a month or so. Personally, I would like them to release it only when they're ready so that the update doesn't cause more bugs.
In the meantime, you can work in CC instead of CC 2014 to do any audio scrubbing you need to do. (You can Save As CC, if you need to get a CC 2014 project to be compatible with the previous version.) This bug should not be interfering with any your work as the issue is not present in CC. The previous version of CC is available from the CC app as shown here: Creative Cloud Help | Install, update, or uninstall apps
If this is a different issue entirely, we will need a lot more information in order to help you. FAQ: What information should I provide when ask a question?

  • Black frame on ProRes 422 multicam export

No issues when watching a project in PP but when exporting within PP get a random black frame in export. Re exported several times and black frame would move to different parts of the video. Tried flattening cams, no fix. Previosuly to issue -- updated CC 2014, CUDA driver update. Music Video had 5 cameras, 1 track of audio. - have some effects in the project like blurs with dissolves.  Plays back beautifully, h.264 files were fine. Just when exporting final version to client did this occur. Tried new sequence, no difference.  Only fix was a ProRes 422 HQ file. Really didnt need HQ, standard was what was requested.  footage is native canon dslr 7D and 5D footage. Any ideas? Also, weirdly I have to change the default codec from GO Pro Cinema to ProRes 422. I'm sure there are a million variables but wanted to see if anyone had stumbled on this and had a suggestion.
New Mac Power book with 1 TB ssd.
    Maxed ram and gfx.
    External FW800 drive.
latest update to PP CC 2014
    ProRes 422 1920x1080
    generic QuickTime profiles for 1080
    don't have specific settings handy

#1 - You shouldn't be using ProRes HQ. All you are doing is doubling the amount of space the footage takes up. HQ is really meant for 2K footage or higher...stuff projected on a BIG screen. If this is going to DVD...SD DVD or BluRay, then regular ProRes will be your best option.
#2 - Are you looking at this footage on an HDTV? That is the only way to really tell what your footage will look like. Because the way FCP shows the footage, and QT shows it, are different. QT typically brightens the picture so that it will be viewable on most monitors. BUT, if you choose the FCP COLOR COMPATIBILITY in the QT preferences, it will show you what FCP shows you. And if this is too dark, then you need to color correct it to be how you want it to look. BUT! You cannot judge what the footage will look like on a computer monitor. It is VASTLY different that what an HDTV, or regular TV, will show you. You need to get the signal to the HDTV (HD capture card) and then color correct the footage to look the way you want it to look.
#3 - Avoid HQ. Seemed like it needed repeating.

  • After Effects skipping frames in animated GIFs

    Hello,
I have a 20 PNG sequences (each with 8 images) that I would like to combine into a single Animated GIF.  That's 160 frames, which adds up to 00:00:05:10 on my timeline.  After Effects shows the proper number of frames when they are arranged in sequence.
When I attempt to render the GIF, however, After Effects drops 12 frames in the final output, giving me a total of only 148.  This was confirmed when I re-imported the animated GIF back into After Effects; its duration was only 00:00:04:28.  The frames appear to be getting pulled from all over the GIF, with no apparent pattern.
I need all 160 frames because I am eventually going to convert them to a sprite sheet for a game (I have a program that will convert GIFs into sprite sheets).  I've attached a copy of the sprite sheet that I just exported from the GIF; notice that 12 frames are missing.
Does anyone know why AE would remove frames like this?

The After Effects forum would be a good place to ask. This is just a general animation forum that is read by only 13 people.

  • Premiere Bad Export vs. After Effects Clean Export

I encountered this problem many years ago, but since it accours in every version of Premire Pro it's time to find a solution.
Mainly what bothers me is that every video I export out of Premire CS4 isn't as clean as if I would export it out of After Effects.
    I had two situations:
    1. I made one animation in After Effects, exported the video in the loosles format to see how it looks and the video looked great and very clean.
Than I imported the after effects composition via dynamic link into Premiere CS4 and put some music underneath. Than I exported the video out of Premiere CS4 with the Media Encoder into some HQ versions like Pal DV, .mov, .h264, Targa sequences...and the video just wasn't as clean as the one exported directly from After Effects.
What is wrong? Is there a Premire encoder bug? I had this problem also with earlier version of Premiere.
    2. I shot a film in HDV for a company. I edited the material in Premiere CS4 and since I exported it for 4:3 I scaled the video down. So there were more than enought pixels to make the image clean. But after exporting it out of Premiere CS4 the PAL DV image quality just wasn't clean.
I imported than the entire Premiere sequence into After Effects and exported the video from there and I got a great and clean looking PAL DV video.
Again. Is there a bug in Premiere encoder?
I like Premiere but since I can not get a nice image quality out of it I'm planing to go over to FinalCut Pro.
Does any one have a solution for that problem?
    Thank you very much
    Agetis

    Thanks Jim and Harm!
Jim, I exported the animation in the 1. scenario as a progressive video. There was no interlacing and I still got bad results with Premiere.
Harm, I gathered for you fresh uncompressed image exports from Premiere and After Effects.
Sample 1 - Uncompressed Tiff from Premiere CS4
Sample 2 - Uncompressed Tiff from After Effects CS4
I don't think Encore has anything to do with this problem. Because the DVD (.m2v files) wasn't transcoded with Encore but with Premire and AE.
Anyway here are the DVD settings:
    1. Premiere settings for the DVD:
    MPEG2-DVD
    PAL High Quality
    Video Settings:
    Quality: 5
    Tv Standard: PAL
    Frame W: 720
    Frame H: 576
    FPS: 25
    Fields: Lower
    Pixel: 4:3 (1.09)
    CBR: 8 MB
    2. After Effects settings for the DVD:
Are exactly the same as Premieres. Fields are also Lower.
The video in AE was exported via Render Queue.
I still don't think that this is a issue of codecs. From my point of view it's still more likely that Premiere has an export bug.
Please try it out and let me know.
    Thanks
    Agetis

  • How do I get rid of black shadows around layered sparkles in file imported from Illustrator CC to After Effects CC?

I have a background with a logo that will have various stars or sparkles around the logo. I eventually want the sparkles to flicker on and off around the logo in my Premiere Pro video.
I created my layered logo/sparkle artwork in Illustrator CC. Each sparkle is on a separate layer. The sparkles came from clip art. In Illustrator CC the sparkles are white or yellow. In After Effects CC they have a black background around each sparkle, almost like a drop shadow.
I want to get rid of the drop shadow/black background.
    Any suggestions?

Check the problematic layers in the comp by soloing them and then press the u key twice to reveal everything that is not set to the defaults. Make sure there are no layer styles or other effects checked. If all is normal but the art still looks odd open up the footage interpretation, Click the More Options button at the bottom left. and set the anti aliasing for vector art to More Accurate. You can do similar in Preferences>Previews and set Zoom Quality to More Accurate.
Here's another tip for using Illustrator files for video. Any stroked artwork must have a minimum stroke of 1 point or 1 pixel. 2 is better. Fine details in your artwork should be drawn with the snap to pixel option enabled in Illustrator and artwork should be an even number of pixels (points) high and wide.
If none of that works, save out just some of the problematic layers in you AI file and send us a link so we can check out the file or post a screenshot of the problem viewed at a zoom factor of 100% with resolution set to Auto or Full and the properties of your layer with problems revealed.
