After Effects Icon missing

Hi People,
Just updated to CC 2014 and the icon associated with AE projects is no longer present. Looked in all the obvious places (Registry and Default Applications) to no avail. Choosing the Open With option for a project doesn't have After Effects in the list of available applications. I can attempt to add AE to the list but this fails to stick. Lots of Registry listings (including for uninstalled versions - can I remove those without damaging the system?) but none that are out of alignment e.g. looking for an uninstalled version.
Any thoughts?

Did you install on the Desktop? It also looks like you might have installed the render engine only. All of your CS5.5 files should be in the Applications folder. You can install them in a separate folder in Applications, but just dropping AE on the desktop won't work.

After Effects error: Missing Filters in the file.

I'm using CS4 in Windows XP SP3. When I work with video in Photoshop, apply filters as smart object, and save as psd, then import into AE as footage>merged layers, I get this message: After Effects error: Missing Filters in the file. The file open as just the footage with none of the work I did in PS.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Am I missing some step along the way?

Isn't it obvious? AE does not support smart filters. It will only use the rasterized content of a PS layer. Hence you will have to rasterize the layer in PS to retain its appearance with all the effects applied. Look in the help which specific PSD features AE is able to support and translate.

After Effects Text missing from project view (yet renders)

I am new to the CC but have played with Adobe in earlier versions (mostly CS3). I have purchased some project files from videoden to give me a starting point (I learn best when playing with something that already works, picking it apart and rebuilding). Only problem is, the text is never visible when I work.
When I open the project it says: "the project must be converted from version 9.0 (windows). The original file will remain unchanged" There are no font dependency issues reported. When I open a text layer I can see a rectangle, but not the letters. I read on the forum that the cache can cause problems. I emptied it, rebooted and started over, still same problem.
So it is the project that is corrupt, right? Wrong. Even when I make my own, add Arial (or some generic font like that all systems have) it wont show up on screen either. And even the project I was having problems with, when I render it the fonts appear properly.
Is there some view that does not show fonts in text areas?
I am running 8gm ram, win 7, Lenovo, with After Effects CC

After Effects is missing from the Creative Cloud Desktop application

It took over 10min for me to get to this place just to ask a question...REALLY ADOBE, You can't make it easier for people to get help with your products? I'm into my 50th min trying to install a trial version of After effects on a PC. After updating and creating my Adobe Cloud account, After Effects is no where to be found. I'm really frustrated and may switch back to Final Cut Pro! Someone wanna tell me how to install After Effects. Ridiculous!

If After Effects does not show up in the Creative Cloud app then your system does not meet the System requirements | After Effects - Adobe. This question has been ask about two or three times a month since the Creative Cloud was announced. You can't blame Adobe that you didn't read the system requirements before signing up for Creative Cloud. Other apps may be compatible and you may be able to use CS6 by filtering the available apps like so:

I've been working a lot between Ppro and AE recently, dealing with tons of .prproj and .aep projects.
Both software have a very similar icon color, so it makes it difficult to tell which file is from AE, which one is from Ppro :

I'll post a feature request to ask if it would be possible in the next upgrade to change one of the icon. Those two software are very often used together, so it feels a bit strange their icons have the same color.
Because I'm still finishing projects on CC and starting new projects on CC 2014, I'ms also having trouble between the CC and CC 2014 icon. They had changed a very little bit, but you really have to zoom in to see it :
Would be a nice idea in the next release to make the new icon a bit more different, like it was in the old CS suite.
Am I the only finding the two icons too much similar? I invite you to share your opinions!

I just installed a new internal hard drive, before I installed any programs. 500GB 7400, after that installation I installed Mac Box Set with snow leopard after that, I installed the Master Collection that I bought today. I did select ALL programs on the initial installation of CS5 Master Collection. ( Can I double check it somewhere to make sure I did? ) I have no idea where these two programs went to.

After Effects Crashing Repeatedly.

Hello Adobe help community. I have come to the Adobe help and support for Adobe AE. Here are the statistics on my computar:
Mac OS X Version: 10.8.4
Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Storage: 484.26 GB Free out of 749.3 GB
I have various other Adobe Applacations that run perfectly fine but After Effects crashes whenever I open it and hit Composition.

I am running the latest version of AE from CreativeCloud.
Yes I have installed the recent updates.
My operating system is Mac OS X.
It wont even let me put in footage so no need to answer this.
Im not getting any error messages.
I am clicking the Composition button when the error occurs.
This has never worked before for me.
Yes I have quicktime installed and running Quicktime 7.6.4
When I opened AE I was running skype, and screenflow. (Not Recording)
No I dont have any third party codecs/effects installed.
The only thing that I am using that I call "hardware" is my Apple Mouse which I believe dosent affect anything here.
No Im not using OpenGL Features in AE because It wont let me click anything before it crashes.
First I close out of some applications that Im running so I can have more ram avalable to run the applacation better. Then I double click on the Adobe After Effects Icon on my desktop. When it has opened, I click anything, it crashes.

After Effects CS 11.0.4.2: Problem loading project file (error loading plugins etc.)

after creating a new project a few days ago, my After Effects CS6 v.11.0.4 has a problem with opening the project. Only this project can't open (everything else opens).
I atteched some pictures to explain my problem better.
I created a video in AE and used the warp stabilization. Ater 2 days i wanted to work on the project. If i open it up it loads and brings up a problem window. (see picture 1)
It says "After Effects Problem: After Effects crashed while opening the Effect-Plugin 'warp stabilization'".
By clicking "Ok", another problem window opens up. (see picture 2)
It says "After Effects Problem: After Effects crashed while opening the Effect-Plugin 'auto color'".
If i click "Ok", the next window comes up. (see picture 3)
It says "Cash at Processing. Latest protocolled Notification: <6796> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making New Context"
After clicking OK again, it says i can save a copy of the project. (picture 4)
This pops up after saving. (picture 5)
After that AE cloeses.
If i open up the new projectfile, it brings up this problem. (see picture 6)
---> "After Effects Problem: Missing Data in file"
But sometimes it says "No valid file-type"
What can i do? Every other project with warp stabilization opens up.
Does this mean i have to start from the beginning?
Is this problem known by anyone of the community?

Can you import that problematic project into a brand new one?
If you enable caps lock before opening the problematic project, does it open?

Can't Find the After Effects Download

I just downloaded the Cloud and when I am on my account home screen, I can see the Adobe After Effects icon under Desktop Apps on the right navigation. When I click on the apps to download, it does not appear as an option on that screen. It also doesn't appear in the Adobe Application Manager. Has anyone else had that problem? Do you have to download one of the other apps before you can download After Effects? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Help with   After Effects CS6-

I did something to piss off after effects -    not sure what I did exactly I was trying to make an after effects icon on the dock ( I have a MacBook pro running mavericks )
I have a subscription to the creative cloud - and have downloaded after effects CS6 . but....
   Now when I try to open one of my After effects projects it says " Error message - something about I need to uninstall the older version of after- effects , - and then it listed a preset ( blur)
and when I close the window , there were approximately 30 similar windows with the same message , but a different preset,( blur this or that )
So like an idiot I went to my applications and dragged my after effects app icon to the trash ( there were two of them) and then emptied the trash- Now all my After effects files are greyed out with small green text that says "exec"
what should I do? I cant opn my AE   (after effects) files, I went to the cloud to re-install it and it says it is alll updated , should I do a uninstall? How do I do that?   can I do that and then re-install AE CS6?     will adobe make me download the newer CC version?   I dont want that version because all the computers at my school run CS6
Can someone advise me what the next step would be?

Run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and reinstall. Also learn to name your files sensibly - using $ in a file name may simply be interpreted as a variable by the operating system.

After Effects CS5 not Opening Properly - Mac

Hi, After effects CS5 on my Mac seems to not be opening properly. This is what happens:
     1. I click on After effects icon in my dock
     2. After Effects starts to load
     3. when finished loading only the top thin grey bar with the "x" and "-" buttons apprear. No layout or anything!
I have tried uninstalling after effects and then re-installing it back onto my Mac but the same problem still exists.
I have tried everything to get my exspencive program (After Effects CS5) back up and running but still no success, So if you have any possible answers please help me out.

Rendering error using linked sequence in After Effects

When I render out an After Effects Project with a linked sequence from Premiere, There are some frames that don't render. They are "missing media". These are only a few frames and very random. After rendering it out a second time, the missing Premiere frames were somewhere else. I use Media Encoder to render. I had to do a work around and render out the Premiere sequence first, put it into my After Effects Project and then render that again. Can someone help me with this dynamic link issue?
For this project, i have to render in 50fps. I put both my After Effects and Premiere projects to 50fps. But the footage is not. Can that be the problem perhaps?

no, by render out i mean actually finishing off the project by exporting it to media encoder and rendering out a file. I am in After Effects and the linked sequence is refering to the sequences I made in Premiere Pro.
As far as i know, you can only render and replace an After Effects Comp in Premiere. (vise versa would be great in my case but i couldnt find a render and replace function for premiere sequences in After Effects)
By missing media, i mean the yellow screen you get when Premiere can not find your footage. It happens randomly and it seems as if dynamic link isn't working quite well in this case.
in media encoder i set the rendering settings to QuickTime H.264 codec, 50fps, 1920x1080 and it renders out in .mov. All the comps in AE and Sequences in Premiere are slalso set to these settings.

Adobe After Effects CS4 - Compressor could not be found

I have used After Effects in the past and I haven't had any problems. But, tonight I had an error message while opening the program.
It said:
After Effects warning: a compressor used in an output module template could not be found. The animation compressor will be used instead. ( 44 :: 18 )
I click ok and the program crashed without opening.
I tried opening it several times but I kept on getting this error. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it pulled up the same error again.
What do I need to do to fix this?
The last time I used After Effects was during the summer of 2014 and it worked fine.

Cannot associate AEP to After Effects

Just finished installing Production Premium on Vista. All my file associations work except that I cannot associate aep to After Effects.
I right-click on an AEP file and select Open With..., in the next dialog I Browse to \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\AfterFx.exe and double-click. When I return to the Open With.. Dialog, the After Effects icon is not there!!!!!
I am an advanced Windows user, so associating files is not new to me.
I can run After Effects and modify projects. But cannot create a file association!! Weird.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have resolved this problem.
In regedit, I found that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aep was set to "aep_auto_file".
I changed the value to "Adobe.AfterEffects.Project.90" and the aep files are now correctly associated.
