After Effects is shortening my animation

I bring in a 6.6 sec animation (.mov) file into after effects and it becomes 5.11 sec long. I've checked the frame rate of the clip and the comp they are both at 24 fps. Its messing up my comp because it is an animation synced to audio and the audio remains 6.6 sec long. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Without knowing the exact specs of your clip, where it was created, system info, exact comp settings and so on nobody can know. We don't even know your AE version.

  • New After Effects CC 2015 Character Animator Feature

Hi, the new After Effects CC 2015 character animator feature looks amazing. Is this compatible with Photoshop CS6 or would you have to use the Photoshop CC version?

    > How do you download a free trial version of AE CC
"Free Trial" button in the upper right corner of this page: http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects.html
    > would you be able to record the animated facial features and then tie this in with the pre-recorded sound afterwards?
Yes, you can mix and match separate performance tracks ("takes") per puppet.
    > when you take the finished animation into AE can you further manipulate in the AE timeline - facial features, body etc?
Once you're back in AE, it will be pixels, so you'd do further edits in Character Animator before bringing into AE. Though you could, say, just do the head or lips in Character Animator and then attach them to a body done in AE.
    > I guess I am wondering if this software would be good enough for professional character animation.
If it's not, please us know why so we can fix it! Note that this first version is a "preview" so don't expect the usual polish & completeness of a shipping app. It will install (as a companion app) automatically as part of the next AE CC update.

  • After Effects skipping frames in animated GIFs

    Hello,
I have a 20 PNG sequences (each with 8 images) that I would like to combine into a single Animated GIF.  That's 160 frames, which adds up to 00:00:05:10 on my timeline.  After Effects shows the proper number of frames when they are arranged in sequence.
When I attempt to render the GIF, however, After Effects drops 12 frames in the final output, giving me a total of only 148.  This was confirmed when I re-imported the animated GIF back into After Effects; its duration was only 00:00:04:28.  The frames appear to be getting pulled from all over the GIF, with no apparent pattern.
I need all 160 frames because I am eventually going to convert them to a sprite sheet for a game (I have a program that will convert GIFs into sprite sheets).  I've attached a copy of the sprite sheet that I just exported from the GIF; notice that 12 frames are missing.
Does anyone know why AE would remove frames like this?

The After Effects forum would be a good place to ask. This is just a general animation forum that is read by only 13 people.

  • Using After Effects to Enhance 3D Animation Output

Check out the following Before/After clip that shows a 3D animated movie produced with Antics V3 and how Antics user, Tony Bannan, who is a compositor by trade, used After Effects to add a few lighting effects, motion blur, color grading and depth of field effects.
    http://www.previz.com.au/videorestricted/comparefolie.html
Tony won the Antics Medical Shorts Competition with this clip Folie a Duex and you'll see what can be achieved right out of the box with Antics, but you can also see how your After Effects skills can really allow you to produce stunning 3D animated movies.

You render images or movies from AE and import them into Flash itself, plain and simple. AE does not generate FLA files and in this case even the XFL format would not serve, either, as it does only transport transform animation. What kind of movie or image format you use is pretty much your choice, but naturally PNGs with Alpha or Flash Video with Alpha seem the most logical. Though, with PixelBender, you'd probably not care to even do that and code a respective simple box filter in flash...

when moving somthing how do i disable the feature when AE automaticly smoothes out the path between key frames? the image shows three key frames which i want the text to come down and then to go right with a right angle as a path, not the curved line they have generated!

  • Feature Request - Editable Illustrator Text in After Effects

    Hello,
I would absolutely love it if I could convert text from Illustrator to editable text in After Effects. For most animated videos this is a pretty basic workflow that would help out so much. Right now the only solution appears to be having a "guide layer" of sorts with all your text on it, and then copying and pasting the text from AI to AE and then lining it up with the guide layer. Can be a very tedious process if you are working on a project with a lot of text. Most shots are designed in AI before going into AE which is why the text is already laid out.
    Thanks!
    Remington

Yes, we know that! But we are dealing with projects which have vast amounts of text and elements composed in Illustrator and increasingly InDesign. Maybe the key would be for Illustrator and Indesign to have a dedicated export function to AfterEffects. Not much to ask considering how many people around the planet use this workflow. I would pay for an AE script if it was available.

  • After Effects to Final Cut

I have created an animated logo in After Effects and exported as Animation codec at 100% with an alpha channel. When I import in FCP it looks fine in the source window. I mark my in and out and insert and the whole thing gets jagged. It gets even worse when I render and export. This is viewing it on and NTSC monitor as well and not just computer screen. I know usually I would just go from FCP to After Effects and I would be done but the job I am working on will be on the road and I will not have After Effects available so I need to create my After Effects first and then pop into FCP on the road. The same After Effects files look great if I import them into my Avid system.
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 x 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5GB Ram

have you tried changing the alpha type?
when you bring it in to FCP the alpha is 'straight'... trying bringing the animation into the viewer, go to Modify>Alpha Type > and change it to Black...
Also, when you export, on the Video Output, try changing the Color from Premultiplied (matted) to Unmatted...

  • Final cut to photoshop to after effects back to final cut problem

    Hello there,
    I shall explain my problem.
I am working with three different programs. Finla cut 7, photoshop, and after effects.
I have taken a jpeg still from final cut to work in photoshop.
In phtoshop I have layered a project to work in after effects to make an animation.
The animation is then exported back from after effects into final cut.
When I do this I realise that the dimensions of the animation differs from the original sequence from where the still was taken.
    I work with PAL.
The still from the sequence is 768 x 576. I create a still using 'export- Using quick time conversion'. I do not understand why the image obtained does not have the format 720x576 as it says the film sequences have in final cut pro settings.
When I edit it in photoshop, I create an image that has the 'film-video' setting but the image still does not match the frame. I have noticed there was the setting PAL1/DV square pixel but it still does not match the original format after editing in after effect.
    Why is this?
    Thank you

    Hello mylenium,
Thank you very much for the link.
I now manage to have the same image size when working in final cut.
I hope you do not mind me asking another question. I seem to lose a little bit of resolution. Could this be because i transfer an image worked onto photoshop to after effect and then back to final cut?
I have changed the file dimension before importing it into after effect (from 768x576 to 720x576) and i export the after effect file using quick time in the setting, thus reimporting a .mov file into final cut.
    Thx
    Best
    laure

  • $125 short After Effects project; artist needed

I'm looking to contract out a small After Effects job.  I'm offering $125 for it (I wish I could offer more, but am a boot-strapping entreprenuer with limited funds).  The ~30 second video involves some very simple, almost "stick figure", type drawing (with a bit of animation).  A fuller job description can be found here: http://bit.ly/mr2VDw.  If anyone is intersted, let me know.
UPDATE: link doesn't work for non-elance .. i've copied the description below:
We need a 30 second video/simple annimation created in After Effects CS5. The animation will replace what we created in the following video http://bitly.com/fpTik3 between 1:57 and 3:09. We want the style of the video to CLOSELY memic that of the following site/video http://www.htc.com/www/htcsense/index.html.
    A few quick thoughts:
    1. There will be no audio.
    2. We want the "city blob" replaced with a simply 3d looking city like in http://www.htc.com/www/htcsense/index.html.
    3. We would like the 3 tranmission lines drawn simply in 3d.
    4. The 3 power plants also need a simple 3d representation.
    5. The project MUST BE COMPLETED BY 09:00 AM EST Wed May 11th.
    6. All files must be in deivered in After Effects CS 5 (or 4) with any necessary Illustrator files as well. We may chose to modify the files later.
Why you would want to wok with us:
    1. We leave detailed feedback and promot those who do good work.
    2. We are reasonable in our requests.
Why you may not want to work with us:
    1. We are boot-strapping entreprenuers who have a very limited budget. We can not pay premium prices.
    Thanks!

    Stephen,
I can't take your project but I think you're going to need to be more descriptive in terms of whether you want a globe or not.
Anyways, since you're 5 days away from go-live (or whatever it is) judging from the iPhone battery graphic on your site I think you should know that your video contains a misspelling in the beginning where it states 'not intened for our clients' [sic].  You'll want to fix the 2nd 'd' needed in 'intended'.
Good luck w/ the presentation, etc.

  • I have no audio on my export, but ONLY on the portion with an after effects clip

    Hi,
My footage is AVCHD 1080p MTS files taken from a Sony FS100.
I am attempting to export via media encoder using the 1080p 29.97 FPS YouTube Setting.
I threw together a premiere project and sent a couple of the clips to after effects to add some animations.
Upon re-inserting the clips into premiere pro and exporting them, I have no sound... but ONLY on the portions of the video that have data from after effects.
The preview in premiere plays all of the sound just fine.
    Any ideas?

It wouldn't hurt to update AE either. The latest version is 11.0.4 (well, the latest version is 12.2.1, but you know what I mean).

  • Converting a .PSD into an .AI to become a vector in After Effects

I'm trying to Extrude my logo in After Effects CS6 to appear 3D. My understanding is I need to import an Illustrator file (.AI) in order to "Creat Shapes from Vector Layer". I'm having trouble opening a .PSD and then saving it as an .AI. The file is empty when I open it in After Effects. Sorry if this is confusing...

You know as a matter of fact I've completed the AE Essential Training from Lynda.com and have enough knowledge of After Effects to produce 3D animations. My question was one in hopes of saving time by using a .PSD file (which contains text and an image file) to forego having to replicate it in Illustrator.
Your comment wasn't the least bit helpful, nor constructive. Judging by your comment history, you're not here to assist, rather prove people wrong and attempts to belittle w/ your apparent  'vast' knowledge of terminology.
If you're not a member of this forum to genuinely help people, get out.

  • Exporting to after effects

I'm trying to make a spinning graphic appear 3D and the
transform effect in flash isn't doing a good enough job so I'm
trying to export it to After Effects to skew the animation angle
there. The problem I'm having is even though swf appears as a
supported format in the import option in After Effects, it says
there's a quick time error and the format isn't supported.
The only way I have been able to export to After Effects is
by converting the animation to a gif. Which causes the file to be
    huge (around 2000kb).
Somebody please tell me what I need to do to import an
animation to After Effects in vector form.

Reference or self-contained will make no difference to the quality. If you don't need to carry transparency then QuickTime Movie is your best option.

  • Best video card for After Effects CS5: nVidia's CUDA or Radeon's OpenGL?

I've searched all over the internet and I've found that both are companies are great. But I hear CUDA is important with CS5 (or at least Premiere). While ATI Radeon's OpenGL is very important for After Effect.
I do animation in After Effect. Very intense HD stuff with many effects and layers and I want it to run as smooth as possible, So I'm thinking Radeon 5850 (with my budget). BUT is Radeon's OpenGL more important than nVidia's CUDA?
What will make After Effects run the best it can; between say Radeon 5850 vs a comperable nVidia card like GTX 470.
What should I know about a video card to make After Effects rock?
THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading this, I really need an answer.

Adobe use OpenGL in AE and Photoshop (maybe other software too ?)
ATi card are cheaper for better perf :
    - ATi Radeon 6870 : 180$ -- perf : 2800pts
    - nVidia Geforce 550 Ti : 180$ --- perf: 1800 pts
I think people should buy ATi's card fi they only doing AE
of course I'm speaking for people who don't want to spend a lot of money on the GPU.

  • Adobe Bridge CC not playing After Effects CC animations

    Hello,
I am fairly new to After Effects and Adobe Bridge, and I recently ran into a problem.
So, when I turn on After Effects , and in the Effects Panel , I click "Browse Presets", and then It opens Adobe Bridge. But when I single-click in any kind of an animation in Bridge, it's not playing it in the "Preview" panel.
The little Windows's "picture icon" just starts zoomed in, and then it quickly zooms out.
I'm using a freshly installed Windows 8.1 , and fully updated Bridge and After Effects.
    What might be the problem?
If you want, I could also record the problem with a screen recorder and upload it to YouTube.
EDIT : I just fixed the problem by updating Bridge to the latest version (CC 6.1)!
The animations are playing smoothly without any problems! Just run the Adobe Update Manager, and update
               Bridge!
