After Effects Pre compositions import into Premier

Hi
I'm trying to teach myself After effects and Premier so please be gentle if i'm asking a dumb question.
I created an after effects composition (lets call it Comp1) one of the layers in Comp1 is another Composition (lets call it Comp2). when i import the After effects project file into Premier it asks me which composition i want to import. I selected Comp1 and when i add that to my timeline it's blank. Am i doing something wrong? should i import both Comps?
Any help woudl be much appreciated.

You need to show us your composition by a screenshot and possibly include a flowchart. If nothing shows up when you dynamically link and AE comp to Premier Pro and nothing shows up there's something wrong in your comp or in your workflow.

  • After Effects movie incorrectly imports into FCP

I created text animation in After Effects, and exported for DV:NTSC Anamorphic. The Quick Time Inspector shows the correct settings at Apple Animation, 720 x 480 (872 x 480), Millions +. It also correctly imports into Adobe Premiere Pro as DV:NTSC Anamorphic. Unfortunately, when I import the movie into Final Cut Pro it comes in as 720 x 480 (4:3). Any idea what is going wrong with the import process?
    PS Yes, I'm importing into a 16:9 project with a 16:9 sequence.

    Well I'll be dipped in...
I had gone to the Item Properties and noticed only that the clip was 720 x 480 without any mention of the 'actual' size. It never occured to me to look for an anamorphic column.
Thanks to both Paul and Neil!

  • Retaining transparency in After Effects, to be imported into flash

    Hi
I have created a sequence in after effects using Illustrator images and the partical system. I want to export/render this out with a transparent background and in a format recognised by Flash. Then I want to bring it into Flash and play it over realtime footage from a webcam.
    Anyway I have tried to:
    render it out using FLV
render it out using Quicktime with RGB + Alpha and millions of colours+
Render it out using Targa etc
    I have tried to:
    Export it with SWF
    Export it with XFL
Ant others I just cant remember.
Is it possible to bring a transparent backgrounded file from After Effects into Flash?
If so, how can it be done?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Mairead

Animation is the one I use most often. I should be using ProRes 4444 for ease of integration into Apple's Motion and Final Cut apps but I keep forgetting it's available.
...and here's another candidate: PNG the codec, not the image sequence.  It also supports Alpha Channels, and unless you're making animated lower-thirds, the file sizes are generally smaller than Animation files.
Animation uses run length encoding, so in situations with large expanses of transparency as in lower-thirds, the file sizes can be downright compact.

  • Best export format for importing into After Effects or even back into Premiere

Please look at this video, work in progress.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49_wbdKALQk
The opening, featuring a ribbon of videos, was created in After Effects, using Digieffects Freeform.
The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the high quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • How should i build and export a composition from After Effects to be dropped into a Premiere project

I've built a project in Premiere which i plan to burn to DVD. It's exporting at 1280x720. Pixel aspect ratio is 1.0. I'm exporting with MPEG2 setting.
After Effects won't let me make a project with 1.0 pixel aspect ratio, and it isn't letting me use MPEG2... it's giving me this medial 02 error...
    Help!

Well where should I start? AE will allow you to use square pixels. In fact the 1280 X 720 frame size is the HDV/HDTV 720 P preset and it's square pixels.
You don't set the compression until you render and, if you want the highest quality, you don't render MPEG formats of any kind using the Render Cue, you export them using the Adobe Media encoder. Where is After Effects telling you you can't use MPEG2??? How are you trying to get there.
If you are going directly to Premiere Pro (Which only exports or renders using the Adobe Media Encoder) you don't even need to render, you can just import your AE Composition into PPro.
Secondly, A DVD is not High Def in any form. DVD's are all 720 X 480 pixles (in NTSC countries). The only options are widescreen or normal.
Please read the sections on Rendering in the help files.

  • After Effects CC 2014 problem: Image from frame from the last Premiere CC-After Effects link permanently burned into new project compositions.

One frame from one of the clips I sent from Premiere to After Effects through "replace with After Effects composition" was permanently burned in After Effects and now it appears in every new composition of every new project I create as the background of such composition.
For example, I sent from Premiere a clip of a building to After Effects for color correction with Finesse, and warp stabilization and then after rendering, finishing, and closing all the applications, now, every time I open After Effects for any other project, whether already-created or brand-new, every existing or newly created composition (in a Mac Command N) you see the image of the building as the background of the composition.  If you create a new composition, while it remains empty of any layers, you see the image of the building.  If you have an already-created composition with layers, when you turn off all the eyes of the layers, you would expect to see black (nothing) in the composition window (if that's the color you assigned to be as the background of the comp), but instead you see the building.  If you change the color of the comp's background in Composition Settings, you still see the building as the background.  If you render such empty composition (no layers) you render out the image of the building, not black.  I tried clicking everywhere and going through the preferences, and even uninstalling the application and re-installing it, but it seems to be permanently burned in into every comp's background.
Please, any ideas of what's going on and how to get rid of it?
Thanks so much for your help,
    RR.

Thanks so much Dave.  It fixed the problem.

  • After effect high quality import

    I'm working with AE CS4.
When I'm importing the footage into after effect, it is loosing most of its quality, although my composition quality is full!
Is this fixable? What to do?
    Thx.

Mylenium's answer is a solution for one specific problem, and I hope that he guessed right and this solves your problem.
But, if not (and in general), we need a lot more information if we're going to help you.
Screenshots are more effective at showing us what is wrong than just saying that "quality is lost". We also need to know what operating system you're using, what kind of footage you're working with, what you've tried already to troubleshoot the problem, and so on.

  • After Effects files are imported as audio only (no video)

Whenever I attempt to import an After Effects file into Premiere pro, it will show up in the Project window with an audio icon (but no sequence or video icon) it won't allow me to Put the sequence into my composition. The AE file has no audio on it, and is only a sequence.
I've tried using standard import as well as Adobe Dynamic Link.
This is on a mac on Premiere Pro CC 8.1

This is a distribution format, not intended to be edited, because of the heavy compression. You have several options:
    1. Try with consumer editor, like Magix, or WMM.
    2. Convert to something editable and accept the quality loss.
    3. Get the original, not compressed material from the copyright owner.

  • How to export clips to After Effects for Compositing

I want to export clips from my timeline into After Effects to add some compositing of clouds and sky replacement.
    FCP 7
    AE CS5
    OS 10.6.8
I dragged the clips from my timeline back into the Browser into a new bin but when I export from there, the dimensions aren't the same as my project.
My project is 1920x1080 and when I export the edited (spliced) clips from the browser, they're 720.
I don't want to go into my raw files and try and eyball where I spliced the clips b/c each video file is about 2 gigs and I'm only using a small section of each clip.
Any suggestions on how to do this?

It is much easier just to use Automatic Duck's Pro Import AE which will allow you to send your timeline to AE.
AE will use the existing media that is called for by the FC timeline, you don't have to copy/export the media files.
Used to cost several hundred dollars, now FREE as the creator has gone to work for Adobe.
    http://www.automaticduck.com/products/piae/
P.S. The site says it is compatible up to CS5.5 which was current when development was stopped, but I use it in CS6 with no problem.

  • After effects does not import video when I direct link from premiere pro.  Why not? how do i fix this?

I wanted to add some motion tracked text elements into a clip of a interview in my premiere pro cc timeline. I left clicked on the clips that i wanted to "replace with after effects composition".. so i clicked it to and it opens a new comp in after effects.. Only there is no video opened in the comp.. Theres nothing there. I cant figure out why it doesnt bring the video in? Its not in my project panel in ae.. and ive tried direct link by left clicking the clip and going through the menu.. Tried closing AE and then doing direct link. Tried opening AE first and then doing it.. Not working no matter how i try it.  Whats the fix?
Im using all CC products. Premiere is up to date, after effects is not. I will be updating it to see if that fixes the problem. As soon as I do. I will post a comment as to whether it fixed it or not. In the meantime i could use some help!

  • Aspect Ratio issue when replacing a clip in Premiere CS6 with an After Effects CS6 Composition

Please assist! When I attempt to right click on a clip in my Premiere timeline and replace it with an After Effects composition, I can do so, but problems ensue.
After Effects will start up, but the composition will be in 4:3, even though the Premiere project and clip that I'm altering were both 16:9.
I was able to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in After Effects and then edit what I wanted, but an hour later when I had finsihed, saved, and gone back to Premiere, it had smushed the replaced clip into 4:3 within Premiere.
    So to reitterate:
When I replace a clip in Premiere with an AE comp, AE opens in 4:3.
I can change the AE comp to 16:9, but when I save and go back to Premiere, it has smushed the AE comp down to 4:3.
What can I do to stop this?

If you right click on the clip in the Project panel, then select Modify / Interpret Footage you will see a Pixel Aspect Ratio.
    What does it say?
If it says 0.9091 then change it to 1.2121
If it says something else, come back and let me know. I will then have a different answer for you.
Also, what is the frame size of the video.

  • After Effects won't import any animation presets from Bridge.

I just installed Creative Cloud.  It seems to be working fine, except that when I try to apply Animation Presets into After Effects through Bridge, it gives me an error message saying "Can't import file xxx.fxx: unsupported filtype or extension"
I'm not trying to import a "file" or anything.... simply trying to apply an animation preset to a video clip on an AE timeline.  Never had any issues doing this with CS5.  Anyone know what's going on?
    Thanks

  • Please Help!!! After Effects has stopped importing .m2t files!!!

    Hi there,
I have run into a realtively urgent problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I am making a video in after effects cs4 for a client using footage captured in HDV split that show as .m2t files. I have edited with these files in after effect before, but now all of a sudden when I go to file -> import and select the file I get an immediate "After Effects error: Can't import file" ....."unsupported filetype of extension".
I also noticed it wouldn't let me import .mpg files however .mov files import no problem.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Thanks!! That fixed the problem. I'm not sure why when I searched for updates in after effects it didn't find anything.

  • After Effects & iMovie Photo slideshow into Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
So this is less of a specific problem per say but more of a general inquiry of an important and time-sensitive nature.
My partner and I recently made our first "professional" grade picture montage / slideshow. Most was in After Effects however some was made in iMovie. We've exported everything to mpeg 4 and are combining it all in Final Cut Pro.
    My questions are as follows...
    (1) It's being projected onto a screen therefore the highest quality of image and video is our main concern. Is MPEG4 the correct format to export it to? If not, what would be a better one? And if you don't mind a quick explanation, why is it better than MPEG4?
    (2) Is there a better and more quality protecting method other than exporting out of iMovie and AE to then import it directly into FCP, undergo another slew of renderings and exportings only to end up with a possibly sub-par product?
Thanks so much for any advice/help you can give!
    Julie

It plays smoothly in both the canvas and the viewer. I expected that, as ProRes clips in a ProRes timeline, it would integrate more seamlessly than the myriad codecs also on the timeline. Instead, it suffers from the only issues in the Final Cut Project.
I will give your suggestion a shot when I get home though. I conformed the settings that way with the motion graphics I exported from After Effects, and they're suffering the same issue, though not as conspicuously.
