After effects rendering question

when ae renders (say an image sequence), does it write the entire image to a file in memory then write to disk, or does it continually write to disk until its done...

Do you use the server also for feeding source material? What image formats? At 4k or higher, a bunch of uncompressed EXRs or whatever can easily eat up all bandwidth even on a normal gigabit network. Also if the server uses caching/ delayed write you may have a performance issue there...

  • After Effects Rendering Problem (Please Help!)

Hello, I recently purchased adobe after effects CS6 for my Asus i7 laptop running windows 8 OS with a nvidia graphics card. I had just finished my after effects project and I went to render it out. I chose all my settings as H.264 and best settings. I click render and it starts off fast and rendering fine. About half way through the render it stops adruptly but does not signify any error message on the screen. The software shows that it is still trying to render but the render load bar does not move neither does the time lapse (time remaining).
If you have any idea what the problem may be or how to fix it please post a comment.
    Thank You!

We need to know a lot more if we're going to help you. Please provide answers to the questions listed here: "FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?"
    > Renders stopping halfway through has usually nothing to do with the output format, so for the time being let's ignore the theoretical hubub about H.264
If the format being used is H.264 in a QuickTime container, this can be a problem, since that codec does have problems with the use of many threads, and these problems often occur partway through processing. There is more information about this here.

  • After Effects Rendering Problem and RAM Preview Problem

I posted a question about this yesterday but I thought I would repost it with more detail!
I have a restless issue here with rendering and RAM preview. I am simply trying to create a viral ad which uses the cloning effect I achieved with masking for my college coursework and I have completed the process of creation but I have ran into problems. The RAM preview will only play up to a certain point then it will just stop and this effects the final render because it gets to the point in the rendering where the RAM preview stops and then a message will pop up saying the rendering has failed or something? (Screenshots Below)
I have tried RAM previewing just one of the three videos I am using and it still stops at the same point.
I am using .avi files and have tried converting to .mov, .mp4, .wmv all of which didn't work.
I am using After Effects CS4 ver 9.0.0.346
    My computer specs
AMD SEMPRON processor 2.7Ghz (single core)
2GB RAM (I know its not alot ;))
    ATI Radeon HD 5600 512mb
    Creative audigy 2 sound card
    Windows XP Serivice Pack 3
It's quite urgent and I hope someone can help!
    Cheers!

With just 2GB of RAM, I'm impressed that you can generate that much of a RAM preview.  RAM previews use RAM. When they run out, they stop.
Have you tried rendering the clip using the Render Queue.  If so, does it also report an error at a similar point?  If it renders correctly from the queue, you're done.  If it doesn't, you probably have a corrupt source file.

  • Snap function in CS4 After Effect (simple Question)

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    After Effect CS4
    Gentlemen .
A very simple question, since i am more of a Premiere person, it seems like I am stuck with this problem and the problem is
In Premiere its called "Snap" its a tool or function that automatically finds the connecting or starting or ending of a clip.
For example if I have 3 channels of video and I have many cuts, by dragging the edge of a video , it tells or shows me when they are connected
I tried to search , all I find is "Snap to Guides" which in not doing what I want .
If you need more explanation, plz let me know , else hope you can help.
    Thanks.
Btw. in Premiere the Snap looks like a "Magnet"

To help you with that we need to know something about your composition settings and the settings you picked in the output module. Anything else would just be a guess. My guess is that you're using some HD footage from a non square pixel aspect ratio format and rendering to the same size. If you pick a square pixel HD format (1080 or 720 both have square pixel frame sizes in the default composition settings) and you put your HDV, DVCProHD, AVCHD, Mpeg non square footage in a square pixel comp it will fit and render out correctly.

  • After Effects Rendering error (-1610153464)

I'm trying to render and export a short sequence that I created solely in Adobe After Effects CC.  I immediately get the response: After Effects error: Rendering error while writing to file.... An output module failed.  The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464).  Not using any external plug ins, tried exporting to desktop and external hard drive.  AE version 12.2.1.5, Mac OS X version 10.9.2, Quicktime version 10.3.  I realise other people have posted this error before but I'm not using external plug ins, any advice appreciated.

  • Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?

Hi there! I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)
I would appreciate every help:) my laptop is dying...i need something new and better;)
    cheers stephs

Regardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.
Also, you don't need to take our word for any of this; read what Adobe has to say on the matter: FAQ: What computer and components should I buy?

  • Why after effects renders me with bad audio?

I rendered almost six times and the result of these renders is that audio takes me wrong, when I play it in Windows media audio don´t reproduce, and I reproduced a file alternative to this and reproduced it excellent, the worst is that when I play in VLC or Media Player the audio is ok, that's not the main problem, because for me it would reproduce any of the programs that it works, but I need to make this video with less size or weight and when I make this process finally the audio it´s completely damaged. This has never happened before. Please help me.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. Are you saying that when you render from After Effects the audio sounds bad but the audio file that was in your composition doesn't sound that bad when you play it in other applications?
You aren't telling us what your original audio file is like or what your render settings are in After Effects, so we do not have a lot of information that we might need.
Is the sound okay when you do a RAM preview in AE?
What is the file format of the audio file?
What settings are you using to render out of AE?
If your original audio is an MP3 file, try transcoding it to a WAV and using that in AE. Then render an uncompressed file out of AE and use the Adobe Media Encoder to do your final delivery file. That's the proper workflow anyway. AE should not be used to make your final compressed version.

  • Help need to understand After Effects Rendering

    Hi There
I have just built my first editing pc.
I want to do Editing in Premiere and AE.
I understand it is best to share the load over 3 drives, and so i have
    C: SSD - OS/programs
    H: 1 TB HDD - media
    F: 500GB EXternal Hard drive - renders
in premiere pro i have made it so i read of the media of H: and render to F:
BUT in after effects i am having trouble understand all this disk cache and confirmed media cache business.
I want to have my renders/previews go onto F: as i dont want my SSD to full up!
what i want to know is where do i allocate the disk cache, confirmed media cache, and the data base stuff.
or does after effects delete renders itsself afterwards.
if anyone could help or give me a simple answer as to what these disk cache and media cache things are in AE that would be amazing
Also when i hit space bar to play in AE it goes green for a few seconds then it leaves the bar behind blue!
    dont understand
    would appriciate  any hep

Thank for for all your help.
So tell me if im now right.
When working in AE, I should:
1.Import media that is on its own drive (in this case H:)
    2. Have my disk cache set on the SSD (C:) and maybe put it at a limit of 5-10 gb if I dont want it to take up much room.
    3. Not worry about ram previews taking up space as they only occupy my 8gb of ram temporarily, whilst im working in AE.
    4. Export/Render to My other drive (F:) when done.
Has my understanding improved?... or am I still being a wally.
    Regards

  • Another After Effects 2D Question

So, I have read different forum posts here as well a other communities. I always read that I need specifics, so I will try to be as specific as possible.
I want to know if After Effects is the right program for the type of 2D animation i'm trying to achieve.
I also should make it clear that I am new to motion graphics and may get some terminology wrong. I would say I have a pretty firm grip on Photoshop and Illustrator; I'm a designer for a screen printing shop by trade. I also have a limited but functional knowledge of Premiere and am in the midst of editing 2 music videos. I have always been interested in animation and video but did not have the resources ($23,000 for 2.5 years) to study it at the Art Institute of Houston. I am mainly self taught by way of lynda.com. I have NO PROBLEM doing the training and taking a long time to develop my skill to the level I believe they need to be, but I don't really want to learn 2 different animation software programs unless absolutely necessary.
I would like to produce an animated music video for a band that will have about a 4 minute run time. The style of animation is NOT Disney, but more or less South Park (cut-out?). More specifically, the intro sequence to the 2014 season. I have read that SP uses Maya, which with my limited knowledge seems a little bit overkill. The intro sequence looks at times 3D, but I am confident I can fake the look with proper texture, shading, placement, shadows and zooming.  In reality, what I want to accomplish is somewhere between the look of the intro and the actual show. The end result is a video for view on YouTube, Vimeo, etc for view on desktop computers and smartphones/tablets. TV is not the goal (although I guess it would be nice).
I think I would create the characters as vectors in AI, and perhaps bring them into Photoshop for texture.
Is AE the right software to accomplish this, or would i be better off learning something like ToonBoom Harmony, Blender or Animation Studio 10?
(or another I am unfamiliar with)
Perhaps an Adobe forum is not the most neutral place to ask this question, but I'm not giving up Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere or Speedgrade, so any and all honest opinion are welcome.
    - Can I import "real" vectors into AE and use them for characters, or would everything need to be rasterized?
    - Does AE have a "bones" rigging system or anything comparable?
    - Does AE have a "bullet-physics"-style option? (I'm getting that terminology from Poser, which I purchased while it was on sale but have not even installed yet.)
    - Can I import 3D objects from Poser?
    - Does AE offer any true 3D features, or do I need Maya or a similar program?
Thanks in advance for any insights anyone can offer.
(edit: I know I asked about 2D then asked a few 3D questions at the end, but I am just curious. My MAIN concern is 2D)

Thank you for that. I started reading the comments, and it looks like this video was uploaded by someone other than the creator, and the creator calls him out on it! So here is the link to the original from the creator.

EDIT: So I went on a tirade here about how sh**ty millennials are, even though I am one myself. While I still believe every word I said, this in not the time or place for that discussion. The only thin I will keep is: HEY FELLOW MILLENNIALS:  have some respect for other peoples creations and stop thinking you are entitled or owed ANYTHING, and finally stop taking selfies and posting pictures of your food; no one cares.

  • After Effects rendering with Format MXF OP1a 1080i/25, XDCAM with colour space "HDTV (Rec. 709) 16-235" but after rendering the colour space is "30-217"

    Hello!
I have a very annoying problem in After Effects. I'm making an Animation with the format "MXF OP1A, Codec XDCAMHD 50 PAL (4:2:2)" with 8-Bit and with the colour space "HDTV (Rec. 709) 16-235" but after rendering the colour space is not 16-235, it is 30-217 RGB. After I activate the colour space in After Effects, then it shows the right values, but after rendering the value for white is 217 and for black is 30. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
    Bye

Thanks for your answer, but i don't know an Adobe Media Composer, you surely mean Adobe Media Encoder, or not? Anyway i do not find the option for colour space in Media Encoder, so i would be very thankful if you could tell me where to find it.

  • After Effects Rendered Color Correct Not Showing In Premiere

    Hello all,
I have recently made a short film with a few effects in Premiere and After effects CS4.  I have used the Dynamic Link to accomplish this.  I have added color correction with Color Finesse in After effects.  The problem is I some of the color correction is not showing up in Premiere once it has finished.  Some of them are adjustment layers and some are not and the ones that are showing up are diverse like that as well.  I have rendered the footage and rendered the premiere time line, it fixes it at first but won't build a DVD the right way then the fixes just seem to disappear when scrolling through the timeline.
Is anyone else haveing this problem?
Do you think it's something wrong that an update will fix?
    Maybe a new codec?

Mylenium is correct, the LE version of Color Finesse included with CS4 is for use in After Effects only. To use Color Finesse inside of Premiere or AME you'll need to upgrade to the full PI version. You can find information on available upgrade paths at http://www.synthetic-ap.com/cfupgrade
And if anyone has the PI version and the color correction is disappearing when rendered by AME, be sure to update to the latest version of Color Finesse. Version 2.1.10 corrected an issue that would cause that symptom.

  • After Effects Rendering REALLLY Slow!?

So, i have a two minute clip, thats taking 3 Hours and 20 mins to download?! Heres some information that may help you help me out... :
Today, everythings just going really slow, i have no idea why. I have cleared my Cache and everything...I don't know what to do anymore.
    Installed RAM: 7.82 GB
    Current RAM Usage: 5.55 GB
    Allowed RAM Usage: 6.32 GB

    After Effects
    0.40
    7.82
    6.32
    5.55
    1 - High

Y'know, for the past few days you've been crying and moaning about slow render times.
I went back & checked, and do you know how much information you've given to help us help you?  Here's the answer:  ALMOST NOTHING!  And that is despite people asking you over and over again for certain information, and you ignore it!  Do you LIKE not getting help?
You know what we know?  You're running Win 8 and you have 8 gigs of RAM.  You're rendering a 3-minute clip, and it's taking 10 hours.  Well, lah-dee-dah.  In AE terms, you might just as well have told us you're from Japan and you have red hair.
You want to know what we should know?  Here's a list that will get the diagnostic process going:
The PRECISE version of AE you're using, right down to the last decimal place
The PRECISE version of your operating system, right down to the last decimal place
The identities of any third-part video cards
Got any drivers for these cards?  What are their PRECISE version numbers?
The horizontal & vertical dimensions of your comps and frame rate
The media container (.mov, .avi, etc.) and codec(s) of the clips you're using
Got audio clips?  wav, aiff, or something else?
What kind of still images are in the project?  Bitmapped or vector?  What are their horizontal & vertical dimensions?  Are they RGB or CMYK?
What kind of effects are you trying to use?
Trying to use ray-tracing?  You shouldn't.
Trying to use multiprocessing?  You shouldn't.
This isn't an all-encompassing list, but it ain't bad.  So toss the people here a bone and cough up some information, okay?  Give us a fighting chance, and don't make us rely on crystal balls.

  • After Effects Rendering stops is away from PC

    Hello,
I'm having a lot of troubles with a relative simple project, I have five h.264 1080p 5d MKii files i've mounted on premiere timeline 1280*720 25p (totally 4 minutes) after that i've sent to After Effects via dynamic link, and done some simple lumakeying, i realized a fake studio with white background and a 3d logo (VC Element 3d) that stands near the actor, after i added dome simple camera movement and basic color correction.
Now im experiencing tremendous rendering time trough Adobe Premiere Pro 6-28 hours (for only 4 minutes of video), at the end the file is corrupted. After effects preview fawless, scrolling mouse at full resolution is very fast almost realtime.
Now i am experiencing extremely long time also with queue rendering. I've noticed that AE renders only if i'm moving the mouse if i stop moving rendering goes on "pause", with gpu and cpu at 100%.
I have an Asus G750JX 4700hq 3.4ghz (on TURBOBOST) 32gb RAM (1600mhz Corsair CL9), gtx770m (3gb DDR5 VRAM), 2 SSD one for OS another for AE Caching, External USB3 7200RPM (160mbps) for footage. AE and Premiere CC, W8.1.
I've tried to transcode source h.264 files to Animation, but nothing changes.
Also on premiere if i keep moving the mouse (with a simple application) it renders in 20 Minutes but the file at the end is corrupted.
I've also tried to disalble, enable Multicore Rendering, CUDA Engime, clean cache.
I've never had this kind of problem.

After 48 hours of headache, i found the problem, my sistem was infected by a Trojan that uses th GPU when IDLE for mining... so no problem when working on timeline but low performance when i was away from pc... i removed the virus, killing the proces: sistemewhileidle.exe and clean the users/temp folder where the virus was stored after i searched for entries in the system reg and delete.

  • After effects rendering time is extremely slow

    hi,
i am having trouble with rendering in my after effect cs6. i have 8gb ram size on my mac book pro, which is extremely small for effectively ruunign after effects. i was thinking of getting an external hard drive and run the after effects through that instead. What size of should i go for and how do you go about running after effects on an external drive? is there any other way to optimize the perfromance of after effects?

  • After Effects Rendering problem

Hi, I am having a problem with After effects CS6, I know the newest version of Afer Effects is CC but I don't like CC and I have never had a problem like this before, I'm sure the fact that I don't have CC doesn't make much of a difference, I am making a Call of Duty montage, all clips being .wmv, 59.94 frames per second, and 1280x720 pixels. I had made it halfway through the montage with no problems until this came along. When I ram previewed before the problem came along it would render out the whole video with the music and effects. Then I added the next clip to edit and once I was finished with that clip the whole video was 48 seconds (still not done with the whole thing) and when I did a ram preview to see the first 3 clips together, the ram preview only rendered out to the end of the second clip at 22 seconds and kept on playing only the 22 seconds over again. I have looked up basically everything, I tried restarting my computer, I also did Edit > Purge > All memory and much more, nothing is working. I am running on a Windows 7 64 bit operating system with 8 GB of ram, my processor is a Intel Core i5-3330 @ 3.00GHz. Please try and help me out on this, thanks.

RAM previews use your system memory and you only have so much of it before you run out. More frames, more memory usage. Higher (preview) resolution, more memory usage. And so on... Sounds like you simply previewed at reduced resolution when it seemed to work and now have switched to a higher one. Can't defeat the computer math... Switch your res to 50% or even 25% to increase preview duration...
