After Effects to YouTube (HD)

I have a project I just completed in After Effects (1080i).
I want to put it up on youtube in HD format but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out which format works best.
Here are the formats that youtube suggests:
http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=132460&topic=16612&hl=en-US
I'm working with Windows XP and I'm using After Effects CS3.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should render my project to, so that I can upload it and have it look great on youtube (in HD on youtube as well)...
Thanks!
FOO

The playback settings are determined automatically depending on the connection speed and availability of proxies. You have no influence on that, except for advising your potential viewers to manually hack in a higher setting (which may result in blank players because no such quality is available). If you will, it can still look like **** even if you upload a perfect quality clip because the management back end decides your connection is too slow and delivers a low-bandwidth version first. Another factor is the popularity of your clips. If it is only called up once or twice a month, it will most likely never get the high quality treatment... Anyway, exporting a normal H.264 clip from AE should prove sufficient as should QT's flavor of H.264. Both tools obey the standard requirements for such content. And if you are really after quality, Vimeo is a much better place....

  • Trouble exporting from after effects for youtube

    I have edited my video using after effects.  I have been unable to export my file to youtube using a valid file name.  All of the results have issues with sound and quality.  Any suggestions?

    Without knowing your exact settings and all that nobody can say anything. Just saying that there are issues really means nothing around here.

  • After Effects No Smooth Rendering , Help

    Hey Everyone,
    I downloaded an intro template from here : Free 2D Intro #67 | Sony Vegas & After Effects Template - YouTube
    I downloaded both the Sony Vegas and After Effects version .
    I rendered the Sony Vegas version in 720p 30 FPS and it looks like 60 FPS
    You can check here : Sony Vegas - Demo - YouTube
    But when i rendered the After Effects Version in 720p 30 FPS , it isn't as smooth as the Vegas version
    You Can check here : Adobe After Effects - Demo - YouTube
    Anyone Knows Why ? Can anyone help me ? Or provide me with some other render settings for After Effects so that it looks as smooth as the Vegas version ( I want 30 FPS video Only ) .

    Without knowing exact render settings you used nobody can say anything. Both versions look just fine to me. In fact the AE version actually looks better, so I'm not sure what you are getting at...

  • After Effects, Media Encoder and YouTube

    Let's say I create a video in After Effects CC. I save the file and exit. Then, I open Media Encoder CC and open the After Effects file to render. I set the output to the default YouTube that matches the source material and start the render. When it is complete, I log into YouTube and start the upload. When I do, I get this message:
    When my videos are smaller clips, this is not that large of an issue. When the video is large, though, it is a measurable difference. Is there any way to tweak the settings or am I just missing something simple? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Arjun.
    I have found a solution to my problem in this thread: After Installing Premiere CC Update Icons and Worksurface became too big and cannot be change in small

  • Is After Effects Good for YouTube-Style presentations?

    Hi! I'm about to start a new channel where I'm going to make educational videos about mysterious/strange topics. I'm thinking of using an animation program for brief and simple short animations, that would make about 1/3 of my videos. Animations would be only for presenting my ideas, similar to CPG Grey's videos (a Youtuber with video style that I want to implement, particularly the visuals), not for anything serious like cartoons. It is in a power-pointish style but looks brilliant (apparently he uses Keynote but I don't have a Mac ). A sample of what I mean is here.
    I also want to learn After Effects for future video editing so I thought it might be a good idea to use it for the animations and learn it at the same time. So, any comments? Do you think I would be able to use AF for animations similar to those of CPG Grey's?
    Thank you for your replies!
    -Arty

    It's very hard to say how long it will take you to learn AE. AE is layer based and uses keyframes for anything you want to change. It also depends on how complicated you want to make your animation. A simple slide show timed to music takes an experienced artist with a fairly good set of tools about 20 to 30 seconds per slide to bring them in, set a keyframe for in and out, adjust position and move to the next shot. That means a 60 image slide show will take about a half hour to go through just to start. Throw in twice that much time for tweaking and you have an hour and a half for 60 slides. Now throw in any time you'll need to create any text or do any other animations - Figure 3 or 4 minutes minimum per new layer or effect, and add the time to produce the audio track and you've easily looking at 6 to 8 hours for a 60 slide show project.
    The other option, record your audio track, open up something like iPhoto or the windows equivalent and select fit slide show to audio track and push go.
    A new AE artist could easily spend a week doing a  60 slide show animation. Someone that's done a similar project a lot and isn't going to have to spend a lot of time creating graphics could knock one out in about an hour. If I were to tackle the job of reproducing the video you pointed us to I'd want a week. It would probably be done in 2 or 3 days, but I'd want a week. There's a lot more stuff in there than a clever script and a nicely produced audio track. This kind of stuff is not that hard but it is notoriously time consuming.
    BTW, the entire video you showed us could be produced in Power Point or Keynote in about the same time, may be even a little quicker.

  • Adobe Bridge CC not playing After Effects CC animations

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to After Effects and Adobe Bridge, and I recently ran into a problem.
    So, when I turn on After Effects , and in the Effects Panel , I click "Browse Presets", and then It opens Adobe Bridge. But when I single-click in any kind of an animation in Bridge, it's not playing it in the "Preview" panel.
    The little Windows's "picture icon" just starts zoomed in, and then it quickly zooms out.
    I'm using a freshly installed Windows 8.1 , and fully updated Bridge and After Effects.
    What might be the problem?
    If you want, I could also record the problem with a screen recorder and upload it to YouTube.
    EDIT : I just fixed the problem by updating Bridge to the latest version (CC 6.1)!
               The animations are playing smoothly without any problems! Just run the Adobe Update Manager, and update
               Bridge!

  • I am new to After Effects and Motion 5 and I have a question

    Hello there,
    I am currently working on a personal side project for a family member. She would like me to make a video with recorded audio and pictures from the 1920’s for my grandmother. I would like to give the parallax and 2.5D effect a try but as I never used After Effects or Motion before I am a little overwhelmed.
    I have about 80 images to animate. Right now I am in the ‘Photoshop phase’. I am going through each image and separating the foreground, mid-ground, and background, into separate layers and saving the .psd files to eventually bring into Motion 5 (or After Effects) and animate.
    After seeing this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVrYyX3bHI8
    I really wanted to animate the images I had in a similar fashion. I really loved how they seemed to move and know that I can accomplish this appearance with the pin tool in After Effects. After seeing this video however, I continued looking into the 2.5d effect and found this movie for Motion 5:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmxlm2nkVLA
    I bought Motion 5 because I thought the interface seemed more user friendly to newcomers (like myself), the effects were similar, and because I couldn’t afford to pay for After Effects every month.
    But now I am kicking myself. Motion 5 is lovely and I do like the camera effects but I don’t think I can accomplish the ‘puppet’ effect with it like I can in After Effects. Does anyone know if it is possible? Is there a plugin for Motion 5? Can I send my .psd files into Motion 5, set up the timeline and cameras, save it, and then move it into After Effects and then use the pin tool to manipulate the images and layers?
    I have read that some say it is hard to move Motion files into After Effects? If this is the case, could I save the Motion file, open it in Adobe Premiere, and THEN open it in After Effects and play around with it?
    Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much in advanced.

    2.5D is fairly easy to do in Motion... that's the good news. The bad news is: if you don't know what you need to do to accomplish it, it's practically impossible to do easily or well.
    The first problem to overcome is perspective, and the other problem is parallax.
    These two tutorials (by Mark Spencer) will give you all the information you need dealing with moving Photoshop Layers in Z-space. Even though the point of the tutorials is a "fly through", the same information applies to creating 2.5D. Just animate the camera laterally (sweep) instead of dolly.

  • After Effects CS6 - Very slow workflow

    Hi everyone, my first writing in adobe forums. I've contacted 3 adobe support agents, but I didn't get much help from them. Recently I switched from PC to Mac Pro, having Adobe Production Premium 5.5 for Windows and now upgraded to Adobe Production Premium 6.
    First I tried a trial of After Effects CC and I was surprised how slow it is. Now I'm using AE CS6 full version and it's a bit better, but still pretty dang slow. (The video I made for adobe support explaining the problem is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jsZZpH0vYU )
    To try to cut long story short. In the video adove, I've created couple of text layers and couple of shape layers. Made them 3D. Added a camera too. When I move the camera, everything is refreshing extremly slow. It's like you're having 100 3D layers and very busy scene,
    and actually it's few most simplest 3D layers. The agents from adobe support told me to switch to half rez, or draft mode etc. But the problem is, I do not want to work in half rey, draft mode or something similar, with my configuration it should work pretty normal. Never
    had these kind of problems in AE CS5.5. I tried everything, updated the software, updated my Mac OS, disabled global cache, even disabled multiprocessing etc. Btw, rendering is okay.
    Is this the way CS6 is made? Is it supposed to be slow? Because, literally I got an answer from the agent that AECS6 is designed like that, in other words, to be slow
    I really have no idea anymore how to make this work. I would like to get back to my lovely 5.5, but I only have license for Windows. If you guys could help me, I would really appriciate that.
    I use:
    * Mac Pro
    * 2 x 2,4 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    * 64 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    * ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB
    * 2TB HDD
    * 2 x Apple LED Cinema Display 27"
    * After Effects CS6 - 11.0.2.11
    * Mac OS X 10.8.4
    * I haven't had this problems ever before (using ae for quite some time)
    * At the moment no 3rd party plugins installed
    Thanks!
    Mirza

    You'll have to get used to creating Ram Previews and using AE's interface in the right way. You should really go through the getting started materials on the home page and take a look at the FAQ. AE is a layer based pixel calculating beast that will do a lot more to a movie at 60 frames per second than Photoshop will do on to a still image. After Effects is essentially Photoshop for movies with a lot more options.
    If you want to smoothly drag through the timeline and playback multiple cuts with simple transitions and two or three layers then use Premiere Pro. If you need to use 20 layers and 60 effects to create a stunning composite or motion graphics effect then you're stuck with rendering at just about any price point.

  • PLEASE HELP!! Weird screen glitch in After Effects CS5.5?!? (Windows 7)

         I was editing some videos in the trial of After Effects CS5.5, and I went to render something in full screen (I've been using it for two weeks now, and i've rendered in full screen before) and suddenly a bunch of error messages started popping up,and After Effects closed out. Now every time I open After Effects, its like the screen zooms in: I can't see my taskbar or my tools for after effects, or anything on the edges at all. Production Premiere and everything else works fine, but After Effects is always like this now. I've searched all the help centers, and google, and youtube, and I've found nothing. I also tried unistalling and reinstalling the Master Collection trial but it still came up in full screen.
    PLEASE HELP I only have 12 days left on trial and I'm trying to finish one last video.

    Try deleting your preferences. If that doesn't do it, Reboot, Use the Adobe Cleaner Tool, then re-install AE. If that doesn't work let us know. It's probably your preferences.

  • Adobe After Effects CS5.5 Wont Show any.Avi Video. HELP!?

    I have a top notch computer, from video card, to ram, to a quad core processer. All other video files work fine but my camera (insignia HD) only exports in .avi, and .Mov, so to get any of my footage into After Effects i have to use other programs to render the video file into another type of file, which hinders my quality greatly, and i just dont have the time to do that. I have seen others on youtube videos importing .Avi files but for some reason i cant. I mean i can, but it just shows up in the thumbnail picture as white with green sound waves below and plays nothing. its getting very frustrating. ive looked for answers on google but i cannot find any. Could it perhaps be a codec problem? Also my .Avi files work fine on programs such as Power Director 9, and Windows movie maker. Just not After effects.
    Help Would be GREATLY appreciated, please and thankyou.

    Ah, impatience. I don't understand that in you kids. When I first learned how to use AE it took a weekend to render 10 seconds of one effect on one layer. Anything better than that is like having an unholy demon in my Macintosh.
    You might try dropping a note to the creators of those videos you admire. They should be happy to tell you, a blossoming filmmaker, how to use your camera. I've never heard of an insignia camera but I think you mean it shoots in AVI, not export to AVI. That would be an interesting function in a camera, an export utility. It probably shoots a highly compressed long GOP format that should be transcoded to a frame-based codec before you can use After Effects. Try looking up the wiki entry for AVI and you will see it is a 20 year-old legacy codec wrapping system that simply will not die. Surely the camera mfr's website can offer you some better help in moving your camera originals to a more robust codec? But there should be absolutely no degrading of your video when you transcode to a more useful codec. That is a fault in the settings you are using in your transcoding application.

  • How do I add an after effects files to a website

    Hey guy's,
    I'm working on a website, and I've created a really cool after effects file to put on my website.
    But how do I host it on my site, please?
    Do I have to make it a different format of file, then upload it like all my other files. Also how can I reduce the amount of memory it uses, so it doesn't effect my webpage.
    Thank you, in advance!
    If you want to have a look at the site it's here - http://www.prime-ticket.com
    Note: The site's still under mass construction.

    After Effects creates Videos therefore you need to render a video and post the video on some kind of streaming server like Vimeo or YouTube. There are presets in the Adobe media encoder for both of these hosting services that work great.
    If you do not know anything about rendering video then please search rendering in the aftereffects search help field at the top right corner of the app.

    Your problem is that the program wants a good video card and a fast hard drive and lots of memory and you have none of the above. If you upgraded the RAM to 8 gigs and installed a solid state hard drive you might make the program useable but the real bottleneck  is going to be the Intel HD graphics, which cannot be upgraded.
    You do have an open slot to add one 4 gig memory module. This is an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade. See here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7FvZ-JduRM
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct51264bf160b
    I would try this a step at a time. Next would be the solid state drive. That would cost maybe $150. Post back if you need more help.

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 horrible export quality

    I made an intro for my Youtube channel using Adobe After Effects CS3, in the preview and whilst I was rendering the video quality was remarkable, no flaw in it. But after it rendered and I exported it as a .flv file the quality was horrible and grainy. Since I'm starting a serious channel my videos have to be high quality, including the intro. Is there any way to make it better quality, perhaps a free program that converts it into a better quality extension, or anything. I appreciate any feedback since I really need this intro in high quality.
    Here's the video link as you can see it's grainy as hell, even when put at 720p(HD):
    As I mentioned before in the preview and whilst rendering the quality was one of the best I've ever seen, no grain or anything, it was flawless, but when I exported, the quality turned to s***. Please help.

    Well, straight to the point: Read YouTube's requirements! FLV? They don't even recomemnd it themselves and in the last 3 years nobody serious has used it. There are enough free H.264 encoders based on ffmpeg. Download one and render an uncompressed movie from AE to be used for final output.

  • Adobe After Effects

    Hello fellow Adobe users, moderators, or administrators! Recently I have tried to get "Adobe After Effects CS6" for a YouTube project. I wanted to make an intro. When I downloaded the "Creative Cloud" I scrolled down the list to find that "Adobe After Effects CS6" was not there. I googled the problem and saw a article made by Adobe. I looked through the article to see if my system was not compatible or not. Which it was or so I think. It did not mention anything about a Windows 8 computer. I was wondering if it was because my computer is 32-bit. Or is it that i have a really old computer and my hardware just can`t hold the pressure. I think this because I have Intel Pentium 4. I really don`t know. I`d appreciate it if you can get back to me on this and possibly tell me why. If you need a list of my computer specs just reply to this discussion post. Well thanks for looking on this discussion even if you don`t know what happened. I know you tried to help me! Well thanks! : D

  • After Effects Ram Preview Drops Frames , Using Strangely Too Much Ram

    System Specs :
         CPU : Core i7 4770k
         Memory : 16 GB DDRIII
         Graphic Card : GTX 770 4GB RAM
         Storage : 256 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD
         OS : Windows 7 SP1
         Using After Effects CC 12.2.1.5
    NOTE : NOT ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE IS ATTACHED TO MY PC . NO SOUND RELATED EQUIPMENT NOR CAPTURE CARD NOR ANY THING ELSE
    Hi there
    As you Already Don't know I'm an After effects Specialist Using it for quite long time . There is an Ancient Problem with CS6 CC versions . I have a short Small size 1080p Video , about 8 MB , I drag it into project panel and then put it into timeline hence it creates a sequence . There are no Effects and nothing added to timeline , just a small simple video . The Strange Problem is when I click "0" for ram preview , The video starts playing and the green bar above timeline starts to fill . When Ram preview Finishes and plays the video from beginning I See there are several frames Between which are not being loaded to Ram ! The video plays RGB color bar instead of main video and when I check the Green bar above Timeline I see that those frames are being dropped and there is no Green bar above them !
    I have had this problem several times before but this time it is too important and the problem should be solved . What is obvious is that some frames are not being rendered or are being deleted after render !
    Another Strange problem is that when I open Task manager , It shows AE uses around 10 GB ! of RAM when I press "0" for Ram previewing this video !
    So there is a Logical explanation here , Somehow when I do ram preview this video it uses extra ordinary too much ram so AE is unable to load the full video (8 MB) into Ram and hence deletes some of frames .
    most of my videos have not this problem and use acceptable amount of ram .I've had this issue with some of my videos till now .
    Listen carefully : "This has nothing to do with AE preferences or low memory or plugins . because there is nothing wrong with any individual components of may hardware or software . I have far more than enough RAM for a 8MB video . My Memory has no hardware or software problem . I tested them and if there was any problem with memory or other hardware that should have affected other applications . I have the most recent AE version . I have the most Recent windows updates and drivers . I have a Clean virus free system , and as a computer engineer this strange AE problem is rarely caused by viruses , trust me . I have not any hardware instead of ones a normal PC has . I have not any problem with my whole entire system configuration because I have benchmarked my PC with several up to date softwares . I have tested my PC with almost any STRESS TESTING solutions available for really long period of time , 3 days by IDA64 . Not any driver conflict , dll missing , registry problem have been discovered , as I know perfectly how to solve them ."
    I asked some of my friend whom are expert in AE . I handed them my videos and Watched ALL OF THEM HAD THE SAME ISSUE ! So the problem isn't related to my Local PC . What i believe is that there is some malfunctioning or miss coded part in AE source code that decides to reserve such a huge strange amount of ram for such a tiny 8MB video . The point is that the AE works fine , no crash or any problem report . So the AE it Self decides to allocate such huge amount of ram and thinks it is correct ! So I think this is a work around that AE developers in adobe are using to bypass a problem or conflict ! by Using more amount of RAM . I think that there might be some miss understanding between the AE and my installed codec . I installed MEGA CODEC PACK on my PC to enable some new codec supports , and so are some of Windows default de/encoders changed to new ones . I think there shouldn't be any problem But there is something wrong between AE and de/encoder modules !
    Please any one with any suggestion , I really appreciate your advices .

    ###UPDATED###
    Well thank you guys for your patience ...
    as you considered I forgot to mention the codec itself and other stuff ...
    The video is in 1080p , 35 sec long , it is a green screen shot , this video is directly downloaded from YouTube and plays perfectly on all tested PCs . here are detailed info :
    Format                                   : MPEG-4
    Format profile                          : Base Media
    File size                                 : 8.55 MiB
    Duration                                 : 34s 993ms
    Overall bit rate mode                : Variable
    Overall bit rate                         : 2 050 Kbps

    Format profile                           : [email protected]
    Codec ID                                 : avc1
    Codec ID/Info                            : Advanced Video Coding
    Bit rate                                    : 1 927 Kbps
    Width                                      : 1 920 pixels
    Height                                     : 1 080 pixels
    Frame rate mode                      : Constant
    Frame rate                               : 30.000 fps
    Color space                              : YUV
    Chroma subsampling                 : 4:2:0
    Bit depth                                  : 8 bits
    Scan type                                 : Progressive
    NOTICE : This video is just for testing the lighting and etc , and so the Sampling and other specs are not considered for broadcast .
    I think you hit the point ! Thats K-lite codec pack installed on every machine which the video is tested on ! The point is whats wrong with it ?! I have had never ever any problem with this codec pack !!!
    The deadly question : So what are the alternative ways to work with codecs that AE doesn't support ?! because installing codec looks simple and sufficient !
