After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy

I have just downloaded the trial After Effects CC. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on my Macbook Pro.
When I try to launch After Effects, this message appears:
"After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'"
I have followed the advice from other posts on this issue regarding resetting all of the permissions in the Adobe folder in my library to read and write , but it doesn't change anything. I still get the same message when I try to launch the program. Moreover, there is no After Effects folder in my Adobe folder, even though it's clearly in my Applications folder.
I also uninstalled After Effects and tried to reinstall it, but to no avail.
I sure would like to give it a try, as I was planning on purchasing it, but this is just one more issue in a long irritating line of issues that have arisen since trying to download it from CC.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I am having this problem and this response does not make sense. I made the "Preferences" ,"Adobe" & "After Effects" folder along with the 10.0,11.0,13.0,13.2 folders all read/write. Can't seem to find an answer.

  • After effects warning could not create the file

    Hi,
I am fairly new to After effects, (so new that I haven't managed to save a file). Can anyone help with this? I am running CS6 on an oldish mac pro, but flash and premiere run fine, and so does after effects, except it won't let me save, and instead comes up with this message: after effects warning could not create the file.
I have even tried saving a file with just a jpeg in it, and it still won't let me.
Any suggestions? I am a bit confused.

When you save in AE, you're saving the project file -- which inclues all your work in the comp -- but you can't save the comp itself to a media file.  It doesn't work that way.  You have to export or use the AE Render Queue.
I recommend spending some quality time here.

I get this message after launch:
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/michaelrutledge/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0/Workspaces.1405.1407350763865601.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.

    What I've tried:
I've searched this forum found one thread that hasn't helped
uninstalled entire Master Collection and reinstalled
    fixed permissions
    uninstalled and reinstalled just AE
I am unable to change the prefs directory indicated to add .xml file for folder.
    Do not find Workspaces.1405.1407350763865601.xml
I'm about to download the master collection again and try a fresh install of AE.
Thank in advance for any help . . .

And what if you simply trash the whole prefs folder/ move it out of the way? AE should happily re-create everything with factory defaults. realyl sounds like one of your workspace files is damaged, perhaps due to a crash.

I originally had Adobe Photoshop Extended, then upgraded to the Production Suite. I ran the Adobe Cleaner, and that uninstalled most Adobe products, including my existing Adobe install, and then I re-installed everything with the same error code. Since CS4 came with CS5, I've installed AE CS4, but would really like to upgrade because I'm new to Creative Suite, and not sure how CS4 integrates with CS5...CS4 After Effects installed perfectly. I do have a 64 bit system, and installing to an OCZ Vertex 2....every other suite installs perfectly, except AE. And I think that is the coolest program in the Suite. I thank you all so much for taking the time to help, I really want to get AECS5 running...I did try to install after doing the recommended items Adobe suggests for Exit Codes 6 and 7, including turning off many startups...
    I'm baffled....

  • After Effects (alert) : Impossible to create the file '/Users/JY/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'.

    Hello everybodyI have few problems.
    1. when I try to launch after effects (juste after the installation), I have this message and I don't know how to fix it
After Effects (alert) : Impossible to create the file '/Users/JY/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'.
2 I just dowload AE CC 2014 fort the first time and It say to me The trial version is over....
    thank you

if your trial is over, it's over.  there's no easy way to re-start a 30 day trial even if it ends before 30 days, Adobe trial software expired early
if you only had problem 1, you could probably resolve it by right clicking ae and clicking 'run as administrator'.

  • Warning message when starting trial of After Effects: "Could not rename the file...in workspaces.

I am trying to download the trial version of After Effects, and it goes through the whole download process fine. But as soon as I try to launch the application, I receive the message "After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/Rebekah/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/11.0/Workspaces.35974.1407352380644801.xml' to 'workspaces.xml'.
What is causing this and what should I do? I've already tried uninstalling the trial and reinstalling it.
    Thanks!

Having a similar problem as I try to use After Effects CC for the first time. "After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/timmyd/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.583.1407351854988961.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.
When I navigate to the 12.1 folder, I see ModifiedWorkspaces and OriginalUserWorkspaces folders but no "/Workspaces.583.1407351854988961.xml".
Then I attempted to open a project in AE CS6 (haven't use AE at all in months), I get a simliar message as the project is loading.  "After Effect error: Can't overwrite file"/Users/timmyd/Library/Preferences/Adobe After Effects 11.0-x63 Prefs". ( 3 :: 3 )
When I click okay the project closes.

I'm new to Flash Builder and have been following a tutorial video to learn the basics. Today, when I tried to access my project, this error appeared in the Package Explorer:

I'm having this issue since ever with FB 4.7 (the normal IDE version, not the command-line one).
The most consistent way I found to resolve it is to delete the output folders of all flex projects, then restart and perform a clean build.
My suspect is that the incremental compilation is flawed, but cannot be sure of it.
P.S. usually the initial error has this root exception

I have a MacBook pro version 10.6.7 with snow leopard. After an scheduled software upgrade I could not open Quicken (It said it could not open the files). Now I can only open it if I have my external drive on. Can you help?
All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardrive

Try repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why do I get error 'Could not create temporary file. No space left on device" when I use the Engine Installation Wizard in TestStand?

The process gets to the NIVISA\SETUP.INI step, then I get this error.
I've tried with installing the MDAC and not, and it happens both times.
The drive I'm trying to create the file to has 7.4GB open on it, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
    Thank you,
    Dave Neumann

    Dave,
This is documented in the KnowledBase 2D6A63VW titled: "Error: Could Not Create Temporary File, No Space Left on Device".
As RByrd suggested, you might need to free up some memory space in your System Temp directory, OR you may change the location of your System Temp directory to one with more space (such as the directory where you want the TestStand Engine files to be saved). The Knowledbase shows how to do this step by step. This is its URL:

  • Error: Outlook could not create the work file. Office 2013

I was having issues with Windows 8.1 store apps not working and it was suggested to sync my account licenses.  I did that but it did not correct my problem.  I then ran the troubleshooter app. The troubleshooter found several issues that it
fixed but I cannot remember what they were.
So here's my problem.  Now, when I open Outlook (2013) I get the error "Outlook could not create the work file."
    Any suggestions?

Glad to hear that you have found a solution and thank you for sharing it here, it will be helpful to other community members who have same questions.

  • MS Office 2004 reports "Word could not create the work file."

I have searched the world for the solution and apparently nobody else has this problem. When opening any document (.doc) Word will report "Word could not create the work file. Check the amount of disk space on your start up drive."
There are 40 gigs free. There is 2 gig of memory. It's the only app open.
Is there a solution to this problem other then not using Word at all?

I'm learning more about the doc file in question.
Evidently it was created on Windows about 4 years
ago. If I Save As... the file and click the
Compatibility button it complains about a missing
"linked" file. While this might be the cause of the
problem there doesn't seem to be any way of fixing it
short of finding a time machine and wacking the
creator before they wrote a word. If I go ahead and
save the document Word crashes and corrupts the
original file (err the back up of the back up of the
    original file).
I think you may have to give up on this one.
A "linked file" is a reference pointer within the main word document that tells word to locate another file and incorporate it into the document by reference (but not include the actual contents of the linked file)
Since you say "If I Save As... the file and click the Compatibility button..." you can get into the document.
So try turning on invisibles, and find the reference to the linked file. You may also be able to find it by turning on Document Map.
Delete the link, and that should take care of the crashing problem.
Of course, your file will not be 'complete' but thats a differnet problem.
