In Multiview (2 & 4 View) Mode in the Composition Window: How about a small semi-transparent "View Label" in the corner of each view displayed (Front / Back / Top / Bottom / Active Camera / etc)...you know - like a 3D program?
Please add more flexibility within the Composition Window Multiview Mode - to be able to grab & stretch a smaller view out to make it larger.

I'd like to see the return of the old motion graphs, for quick reference purposes. The new graphs add a lot of improvements, but they take away 1:1 correlation, the ability to see the graphs alongside all the other timeline markers and keyframes, and easy readability. I'd love to have the best of both worlds.
The ability to set the motion graph background color independent of the interface color would be a big plus.

Please give us the option to go back to the much faster and responsive old interface or fix the current one so it doesn't lag anymore...IMO this should be the highest priority right now along with the hiding issue. Give us options to disable the font smoothing and fancy graphics to its bare minimum (think discreet's flame).
Please put back the option to change the cell height on the Timeline window. It used to be much smaller and as a result I can see less layers fitting in the window in AE7 in comparison to AE6.5. This is a direct example of the interface getting in the way of...working.
Fix the Timeline tabs so they don't rearrange themselves alphabetically when I reopen the project. And another vote to lose the "Timeline" word.
Add more options besides the Ease In/Out/Ease. Cinema4D has a very cool approach to this and there are very useful presets such as "Slow" (object reduces speed in a realistic way, i.e. a ball rolling on the grass and gradually coming to a stop), "Fast" (quick burst of speed in the beginning, i.e. the same ball after being kicked, a bullet, etc.)
Speed, speed, speed. Did I say this should be the top priority? :)

After Effects CC Output Modules on Render Only Machines

Hi there, I'm having an issue with custom Output Module Templates and my renderfarm:
After Effects CC 12.0.0.404 (showing as up to date in Creative Cloud)
Mac OS X 10.8.4 (Latest Mountain Lion version)
Mac Pro 2.93 GHz 8-Core, Radeon 5870, 32GB RAM and with Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 3D+
Remote Machines (there are four) are Mac Pros as well (Quad-core, running 10.7.2 with 16GB RAM), using the ae_render_only_node.txt file in their user Documents folder.
The exact error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
I am trying to get a renderfarm working with After Effects CC (see exact version above). Unfortunately, I need custom output modules and I can't seem to get the render slaves to recognize them. I found older threads on this exact issue, but no solution was found.
I am using commandline aerender in OS X terminal to start a render with a basic test scene.
To simplify things, I have tried testing this on one render slave machine at a time... Same result everywhere.
Here's what I've tried:
I exported a .aom file from my main machine (where I have my desired custom Output Modules) and attempted to bring it in on the render slaves. However, because the render slaves are render only, (they have ae_render_only_node.txt in their Documents folder), the ability to import Output Modules is disabled in After Effects (it opens as the After Effects Render Engine, and the Edit>Templates menu is greyed out).
Next, I thought I'd try copying the main machine's /Users/(user)/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.0 folder over to the render slaves, thinking that would get whatever preference file to them that's needed to define the output modules. No luck. Launched After Effects (which loads as After Effects Render Engine) and reset my disk cache preferences (so they weren't still the main machine's). Tried aerender again... no luck. Same error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
After that, I thought it would be a good idea to sign out of Adobe Creative Cloud on the main machine, and try logging into the render slave machine with my full UserID and Password and temporarily remove the ae_render_only_node.txt file. Then, I'd import the .aom file in the full version of AE... I tried this and success! The renders work... they find the Output Modules no problem. Only issue is, as soon as I sign out, and switch to using the ae_render_only_node.txt file, the Output Modules are not found. Not sure what's going on-- if the Output Modules are being disabled by the ae_render_only_node.txt file? Or maybe signing out of my Adobe ID is removing the preferences that determine Output Modules? Don't know where the Output Module preferences are stored to be able to tell.
Next attempt: I thought I'd try syncing my preferences with Creative Cloud. I made sure to check After Effects Sync Preferences to ensure that Output Modules are set to sync. I did a sync where I uploaded my preferences from the main machine. Then, on the render slaves, I ran Sync Preferences, and chose to download preferences. Works when signed in, but not when used as a render only node. When it's a render only node, it still prompts me to Download the Sync Preferences and Quit the Application, which I do, but nothing seems to happen. I try aerender again, and still the same error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
I can't seem to find any info on where Output Modules are actually stored (apparently they're not anywhere in the User/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/ folder?). Are render only nodes not allowed to have custom Output Modules? Not even for something as simple as the Multi-Machine Sequence with a post-render action of Set Proxy enabled?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've verified this problem and filed a bug. Sorry about the hiccup.
I've trying to pin down why this happens, and while I don't have a full explanation yet I think I've stumbled onto a workaround:
Trash the prefs on the render machine.
Enable the ae_render_only_node.txt file.
Launch AE and then quit. <- This is a critical step. More on this later.
Disable ae_render_only_node.txt file.
Launch AE.
Add your Output Module template.
Quit AE.
Enable the ae_render_only_node.txt file.
After you do this, I highly recommend making a backup copy of the Adobe After Effects 12.0 Prefs-indep-output.txt file. Just in case. I've had the failure reappear.
Now test with aerender and let me know if that works. It has on my machine.
Why does this matter? When you run AE with the ae_render_only_node.txt file enabled, it appears to add a new section to the preferences: "Output Module Preference Section v28-TRIAL". It's the TRIAL part that is important. Without it, AE doesn't seem to be able to keep track of the OM's when in render_only_node mode. And if you disable the ae_render_only_node.txt file, AE has a tendency to destroy the TRIAL section (I'm still tracing why that happens).
Now, should this not work for you, I recommend you work around the problem by adding your comps to the render queue in each project. When you do that, and change your aerender flags appropriately, you can render to your desired settings without specifying OMtemplate parameter.

You probably already discovered this. In After Effects CC the OM data is stored in the Adobe After Effects 12.0 Prefs-indep-output.txt file. In older versions of AE, a single pref file such as Adobe After Effects 11.0-x64 Prefs.txt holds all of this data.
Let me know if that workaround does the trick for you. If I get more information on the cause of the problem I'll update you.

Word 2008 - "read only" after ML install

I installed Mountain Lion today and now when I try to creat a new folder in Word 2008 it will only allow a "read only" folder (which helps me none) and then won't even let me insert a folder name! I searched the communities and haven't seen this issue come up. Any thoughts?

you can do that by calling class method CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_SET_ATTRIBUTES exporting parameter READONLY
note: this will work only in the foreground, it is not possible to do it in a background job

Well, it is nearly Christmas, so here's my wish list of improvements to JDeveloper. Most are tiny and would be easy to implement. I've recently moved from another IDE (JCreator Pro) to JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0 (As I'm a recent convert to JDeveloper, may have missed some ways to achieve these - also haven't looked into beta versions).
Feel free to add to this list, and hope Santa reads it!
*     search and replace to have scope limited to selected area
*     accelerator for "copy current line"
*     drag and drop copy to work to first character of next line
     (i.e. first character after selection)
*     javadoc - option to not have * at beginning of each line
     (much cleaner to read)
*     code completion - currently fixed at Ctrl-Enter, prefer
     switchable (e.g. tab, space, enter)
*     dragging block of code - should remain highlighted after
     release of drag (to make indenting easier)
*     clear all breakpoints (similar to clear all bookmarks)

SQL 2012 AlwaysOn cluster IP not moving after failover, causing database to be read-only

SQL Server Cluster Name: SQLDAG01
SQL Server Cluster IP: 10.0.0.50
Cluster Listener IP: 10.0.0.60
Node 1 Name: SQL01
Node 1 IP: 10.0.0.51
Node 2 Name: SQL02
Node 2 IP: 10.0.0.52
Everything is fine when SQL01 is the primary. When failing over to SQL02, everything looks fine in the dashboard but for some reason the cluster IP, 10.0.0.50, is stuck on node 1. The databases are configured to provide secondary read access. When executing
a query on SQLDAG01, I get an error that the database is in read-only mode. Connectivity tests verify that SQLDAG01, 10.0.0.50, connects to SQL01 even though SQL02 is now the primary.
I've been Googling this for the better part of the day with no luck. Any suggestions? Is there a Powershell command force the cluster IP to move to the active node or something? Also I'm performing the failover as recommended, from Management Studio connected
to the secondary node.

This was the answer, it had been setup to use the cluster name instead of the application name. Whoever installed Sharepoint connected it to SBTSQLDAG01 instead of SHAREPOINT01. Once we changed Sharepoint to connect to SHAREPOINT01, the failover worked as
expected. We did have a secondary issue with the ARP cache and had to install the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2582281 to resolve it. One of the Sharepoint app servers was failing to
ping the SQL node after a failover, the ARP entry was stuck pointing to the previous node. This article actually helped a lot resolving that: http://blog.serverfault.com/2011/05/11/windows-2008-and-broken-arp/
One thing I did notice is that the SQL failover wizard does not move cluster groups "Available Storage" and "Cluster Group", I had to move those through the command line after using the wizard. I'm going to provide the client with a Powershell script that
moves all cluster groups when they need to do a manual failover. This also happens to be why the Sharepoint issue started, "Cluster Group" is what responds to the cluster name SBTSQLDAG01. Moving that group over to the node that has the active SQL cluster
group also made it work properly, but using the application name is the correct method.
Thanks everyone for all your help. Although the nitpicking about terminology really didn't help, that was a pointless argument and we really could have done without it. Yeah I know 2008 called is "Failover Cluster Manager" and MSCS is the "2003 term" but
really, they're basically the same thing and we don't really need to derail the conversation because of it. Also, If you look at the screenshot below you can clearly see "AlwaysOn High Availability" in SQL Management Studio. That's what it's called in SQL,
that's where you do all the work. Trying to tell me it's "not a feature" is wrong, pointless, and asinine, and doesn't get us anywhere.
Sorry it took so long to get back, I was off the project for a couple weeks while they were resolving some SAN issues that caused the failover to happen in the first place.

After Effects Starts to Render (very slowly), only 1% of RAM used, then crashes

I installed the latest After Effects, put in all the upgrades. Then I tried to render a template created and...
1. It begins to render very slowly
2. It shows that only 1% of the 64Gb of RAM is being used
3. It crashes after about 2 minutes
I tried implementing multiprocessor as I have a quad core hyperthreaded to make it essentially an 8 core machine. I looked up all kinds of advice about lowering memory for background apps, changing number of cores to use, on and on. I also tried rendering without multiprocessor. Nothing. I am willing to share my AE project with someone, see if they can render it (to check and see if it is something with the project itself, which I doubt).
I just want this to work because I have been looking forward to working with AE a long time.

Memory settings in AE are complete Voodoo... Properly configuring your RAM etc within after effects is a mindbender and very counter intuitve.

I find that even when my settings are good, i get a hang or a failed render if I don't purge the ram etc before I start a render.

After Effects files are imported as audio only (no video)

Whenever I attempt to import an After Effects file into Premiere pro, it will show up in the Project window with an audio icon (but no sequence or video icon) it won't allow me to Put the sequence into my composition. The AE file has no audio on it, and is only a sequence.
I've tried using standard import as well as Adobe Dynamic Link.
This is on a mac on Premiere Pro CC 8.1

This is a distribution format, not intended to be edited, because of the heavy compression. You have several options:
1. Try with consumer editor, like Magix, or WMM.
2. Convert to something editable and accept the quality loss.
3. Get the original, not compressed material from the copyright owner.

After iTunes 6 Upgrade iPod is "read only", can't update

I installed iTunes 6 - now at 6.0.1 (3), and my iPod seems to be read only. I reset the iPod, and it did transfer all songs back to the iPod, but will not allow me to create play lists or modify the iPod in any way. When the iPod is selected (highlighted) in iTunes, all songs are greyed out, as if I do not have the appropriate access to modify the iPod itself.
Additional information: Mac OS 10.3.9, iPod updated to v 2.3
Any help would be appreciated.

I stumbled onto this thread after I hooked up my iPod video to try and synch it. I too got the "Corrupted iPod" message. I usually don't eject my iPod, as it doesn't disconnect from Windows cleanly. After going through a few steps, I have my iPodsynched & ready to go. (Perhaps it's just a bug in the new version of iTunes, which I have to admit is more aesthetically pleasing).
I clicked the "Eject iPod" button in iTunes.
I selected "USB Mass Storage Device" from the safely remove hardware wizard
I reset the iPod (Switch to HOLD & back, then hold down MENU & center buttons until screen turns off)
Unhooked iPod from data cable
Hooked iPodback up
iTunes recognized and synched...
I don't know if this will help anyone, but I'm hoping that it will. Post back letting everyone know if it succeeds or fails.

Excel 2008, read-only file access from network volume

Hi,
Need some assistance please.
I recently setup a Macbook Pro 17" 2.4Ghz (10.5.2) and did a migration from a Powerbook G4. Installed Office 2008.
Excel will not open ANY files from a network volume without giving a read-only access error.
Word is ok and opens files fine.
drag the file from the network to the desktop and it opens ok. drag it back and it copys ok.
so, I created a new user and the problem persists.
I fired up a Macbook running 10.5.2 and Office 2008 and it logged onto the network fine and opened the excel docs just fine.
mmm, ok must be an OS problem.
So, I have just endured waiting for the archive and install to complete on the Macbook Pro and the problem is still there !!!!!
Help.
Is my only fix going to be a complete erase and start again from fresh ?

right then, as it looks like I'm talking to myself....
I have just wiped clean the Macbook Pro.
I installed Leopard from scratch, then installed Office 2008.
Logged back onto the network share, and the read-only error came up again, ONLY in Excel.
bugger.
Did the same thing with my Macbook and all is fine.
Copy the file to the local hard drive, opens ok.
I then copied the file to another Mac on the network.
mmmm, opens fine.
what's the difference....
mmmm, the machine it opens fine from is running 10.4
the machine which hosts all the data is running 10.3.9
could this be the problem.
Just done a software update check on the 10.3 machine and there are some security updates that need doing.
Going to run that now and see what happens, otherwise I think the iMac running 10.3.9 is going to need to come up to 10.4 and fingers crossed this will solve it.

After Effects CC 3D Camera Tracker: Use only in Composition panel error help?

Hey guys, every time I drag the effect over into my clip, it says: 3D Camera Tracker: Use only in Composition panel. I tried right clicking my clip and clicking camera tracker, and it still says it. Can someone please help me?

Select your clip in the project panel, right-click or choose from the file menu "create new composition from selection," then in the timeline that is created from your video clip select the video later and run the camera tracker.

Making a "SelectOne" list on a Read Only VO in Find mode

I have a simple search page. The page is built on one VO - that is RO. One attribute/column of this VO is a type field - which I have a lookup VO for.
The search form goes directly to find mode. The column I want to define the simple "Select One" method for is of course part of the Read Only VO, but in find mode I can easily type in the field and the search works great.
When I try to create the dropdown (Select One) ADF complains and says it's a Read Only attribute and that I cannot use it to assign values to. This is correct - however in Find mode it's not read only.
So is there a way to bypass this problem?

Well, gladly I can report I solved this myself.
Makes little sense though - when I created the Read Only VO, I "had fun" and changed the attributes of the VO to "no change". That should be given, since the VO is read only. However, that was what caused the issue. The update is set for "Always" now, and while the view is still read only, I have the drop down working perfectly.

After Effects CS6 wont open splash screen only PLEASE HELP

when i start up the splash screen comes up for like 3 seconds and closes thats whats been happeninf for over 3 days and im on a busy schedule editing my short movie please help imidiate answers needed i tried reinstalling, updating, changin folders and installing, i cleared the 10.0 and 11.0 folders in the appdata i dont know what else to do i even restarted many times nothing is helping please someone reply at the earlies

Read only List-Field

HI Folks
It seems to me that there should be an easy answer to the following
problem, so much so that I feel foolish for submitting it. However, since
this is my first posting, it is usually o.k. to be an dimwitted idiot.
Is there any way to have a list field (i.e. scroll list or drop list) that
doesn't display the icon at the right side of the box (the drop arrow or
scroll icon).
We wish to display an item from the list in a read-only fashion, thus is
not any need to display the list, just the corresponding item from the
list. (i.e 'sex' it comes from the database as a 1 (Male) or 2 (Female),
and rather than display the 1 or 2, we would like to display the 'Male' or
'Female'. )
Since we are displaying the records in an array and the array field is
mapped to an object that corresponds to the database table, extra fields
for translation, including virtual attributes, in that object fowl up the
writing to that database table. And, of course, the Drop list adds some
vertical height to the array field, screwing up the esthetic beauty of the
screen.

your data value that needs to be update should be in this format "ID of the lookup";#"Title of the Lookup"
For example,
