After eject get: Device not properly put away msg

I just solved a problem for my wife. This posting is to help any others in the same situation:
I have a new cruzer usb flash drive. It seems to work well, but I see an unexpected error msg. The sequence:
1) Insert the usb flash drive
2) New icons appear on the Mac desktop: Cruzer (disk drive icon) and U3(DVD icon)
3) Finish use of the drive, close applications, etc
4) Eject the drive using finder
5) Wait a couple of sec, then unplug usb drive from system
6) Problem: then an error message about Device not properly put away is shown by the Mac.
Cause and solutions
This is caused by the usb drive mounting TWO "drives", the "cruzer" drive and the "U3" readonly software drive.
Solutions
1) Ignore the error msg since it concerns the read-only drive.
2) Since the usb drive has two "drives," easy solution is to eject both. Then no error message. Just drag the cruzer disk icon to the trash/eject icon. Then repeat for the U3 icon; then unplug the usb drive from the system.
3) A more complete solution is to re-format the usb drive entirely, replacing its two drives with one. This will also give you access to more of the usb drive. Remember that if you reformat, EVERYTHING on the usb drive will be deleted.

Thanks for the solution. I see this in 3rd party, such as Motorola, phones as well. In that case though, I would be leary of reformatting the memory card.
The USB is one solid state drive, and it is configured so that it has two partitions.
Your terminology may confuse some folks, especially those of us with a different primary language.

Backup Device not being "put away" properly.

I use a WD 1TB hard drive for my time machine backups. It's designed to sleep with and wake up with my mac. Now, whenever, I close the lid of my mac without ejecting the time machine drive, I always get an error message that "Data in the disk might be corrupted as the disk was not put away properly". What should I do to ensure that this message does not appear?
In Windows, I used to disable "Write Behind Cache" for that disk. Is there something like that here? I'm new to mac. Please help.

I would suggest you unmount the disk (drag it to the trash - no it won't be deleted!) before closing the lid.

Device Removal - not properly put away dialogue box

During the past weeks I am constantly faced with this dialogue box appearing whenever powering up. I have run Disk Utilities' 'repair disk' on both the internal and external disk drives (no repairs necessary) and 'repair permissions' against the internal drive and the La Cie 500GB drive. However, I cannot run either verify or repair permissions on the La Cie 320GB drive as these options are greyed out. Also this 320GB drive is often slow to power up after having been put to sleep.
How do I (a) get rid of the annoying dialogue box and (b) enable the verify and repair permissions options for the 320GB drive?

Those options for Permissions only exist for drives that have OSX installed on them.
Likely the 320 GB is having problems, could be it's Power Supply, (common LaCie problem), or just about anything.

Delivery has not not been put away

I hope, while creating the Billing document, you are getting the error and not during Delivery creation.
You have to check from the document flow, up to which activity you hvae completed.
If the status of the "WM Transfer order" is "Open", then you need tp confirm the Transfer order through LT12.
Then ensure that you have completed the PGI, before creating the Billing document.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

Waking iMac often reports devices not properly shut down.

Intel 27" iMac. Often when my wife's computer wakes after sleeping, all the attached devices report they were not properly ejected. Except that they were never ejected. For some reason, going to sleep causes the devices to think the computer is shut down? Devices include hard drives, Kindle. Haven't seen this with the iPhone. I'm going to see if changing the computer sleep settings to see if that makes any difference. Any other ideas?

LMS 3.2 Inventory collection - Job timeouts after ~5h, all devices "Not attempted"

Hello All,
We have a strange problem with LMS 3.2 regarding Inventory Collection.
This problem started immediatelly after the LMS installation/upgrade (LMS 3.2 was installed on a new server, and LMS 2.6 database migrated to it).
All Jobs finish as failed, with all devices "not attempted".
Job hangs for a five and a half hours and then reports failed status.
The symptoms are the same for scheduled jobs and manually created jobs.
I also have opened a TAC case, but it seems that nothing relevant can be found in the IC_Server.log.
Also, according to a packet capture, it seems that LMS does collect SNMP data from devices after a job is started...
We tried to upgrade RME 4.3.0 to 4.3.1.
One Job immediately after the upgrade was succesful (Inventory was collected for manually selected device), but the next day all Inventory Jobs were failing again with the same symptoms...
Does anyone have a sugestion where to look for a problem trace?

Please chech the Existing MDF pacakge :
go to common service > software center > device update >>> check the checkbox for Cisco works common service and click on check for updates
--if there is an Update , please upgarde the MDF version..
--Similarly look for any Available Device Pacakges update for RME , if there are Upgarde all the Device Pacakages ....
--After all of the above Task is done , Now re-run the Job and it still fails then share the IC_server.log again..

HP L7680 suddenly stopped working Mon, 2 computers get device not recognized

We are totally frustrated. The printer worked fine on Sun. On Mon, no luck. We have it directly connected to a Compaq running Windows 7 and occasionally switch it to a Toshiba laptop running XP. Both machines now say a USB device is not recognized. We have tried switching the cable, rebooting all devices. Nothing works. When I tried to get the Solution Center to recognize it, it went to 98% and into never-never land. After 20 minutes, I gave up. Any ideas?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear about the recent printing issues on the L7680, it is very strange that on Sunday it will work and then Monday it will not.
With the USB cable connected, to either computer, run the Print and Scan Dr. This will check for hardware issues on the printer, driver, software and communication issues on the computer.
Let me know what the results are, what passes, fails, etc.

"Audio CD" stays on desktop after ejecting...won't go away

I made an audio CD using Toast Titanium. When I put it into my computer, it played just fine in Itunes. When I ejected the disc via Itunes...an icon appeared on my desktop named "Audio CD". It wont go away. When I drag it to the Trash, the Trash turns into the Eject symbol, but the "Audio CD" icon still doesnt go away.
WHen i re-inserted the audio cd and repeated ejecting it through Itunes, it created a whole new icon on my desktop named "Audio CD". This time, the icon is a folder.
What on Earth is happening here??

If you were confident with your syntax you could try deleting using the rm function at the Terminal. There could be other things such as 'immutable' tags on files but that is another story.
Make sure you have the full path to the deletion target noted in a way you can read it faultlessly. You can get the path by dropping the folder onto the end of the ready written command but that requires selecting it so you can drag and drop.
You need to be able to delete files enclosed in folder so select the correct otions for rm . You could check the man pages for rm.

Keep getting "device not certified warning, Iphone won't show in Itunes. I had to keep digging out all my old cables and finally one worked. I've heard this is related to IOS .7.1.1. All my cables were Apple OEM.

This was maddening. Every cable I tried gave me a "not certified" warning and my Iphone wouldn't charge, show on my MB Air or show up in ITunes. I kept digging out cables and finally one worked. As long as I use that one, I have no problems, but I tried 4-5 others with no luck. Kept getting same message. All cables were Apple OEM, btw (except one). I was trying to activate a new Iphone and couldn't because it wouldn't show in Itunes on "Device" list, just wasn't there. One cable finally seemed to solve the problem, but none else would work at all. I tried switching to other USB ports, but that was no help either. I have to think this is a glitch in 10.7.1 which I understand is set up to detect aftermarket devices such as chargers and cables. It was a real pain.

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

Getting "device not compatible" message on Galaxy s Tab

Cant download the app without gettin the error message. Is there a fix for this or somthing I can do.

I suppose you are using the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Normally if you can install it over the Market Web interface it should be compatible - you shouldn't even be able to see it in the Market app unless you are compatible.
Do you get the error from the Market application or when trying to start the application - i.e. does the application exist on your device?
It would also be good to know the exact model number as well as language you're using and what country your in.
What you could try out would be to clear the Market cache and then retry the install.

Could not bring up Firefox even after reinstalled the application. Still get "Could not initialize security componets" msg

I initial received the msg that Firefox is still running in the background and won't open. I check the Task Mgr and Firefox was not running. My storage is only 50% utilized. I finally reinstall Firefox and the new msg "Could not initialize the application security component......." come up. I tried rename the cert8 and the secmod files but still receiving the same "Could not.........." msg. Please help and thanks for your time.

Try to rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well.

How do I get Firefox not to put my ctrl-v text into a picture box?

I'm entering data into a website via Ctrl-c Ctrl-v and it is entered as a picture with a sizing box around it instead of text. This does not happen when I edit the site with IE.
