After Full Capture, No file

Question

I set up a batch capture for one file. It runs itself and says it's completed. But it does not show up in the project window, the file is not in the captured folder. When I search for it, it find an empty icon with the file name I created for it, with no location, no information about the file. It's like it's a ghost file. So far, after doing it a second time, it captures it correctly. But I'm doing 1hr captures of a lot of footage, and that's getting old.
Any thoughts, ideas? To my knowledge this has not happened until the recently and I've been using this computer and FCP for quite some time.

Which internal drive? They system drive or another one?
FCP doesn't run in the 'background' so you either misunderstood the question or have no idea of how FCP Rescue works.

Download FCP Rescue5 and install it.
When you open it the first time, use it to save your preferences then TRASH the preferences. If the trashing makes no dif, simply RESTORE and your preferences will return. If it does work in solving your capture issue, DO NOT RESTORE.
If you 'might' have done one or two updates without paying attention, you may have a funky quicktime installation ... to solve it read further ...
Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
Reboot
