After getting the up-to-date Mountain Lion, can I download it on other devices?

Hi,
In July, I purchased a 2012 13 inch Macbook Pro that qualified for the up-to-date Mountain Lion. I received it and installed it. I also was allowed to install it for free on my 2011 13 inch Macbook Pro. However, I couldn't do the same for my 2011 15 inch Macbook Pro. Instead of saying "install", it said "Buy app, $19.99". If I click "buy app", will I have to pay $19.99 or will it give it to me for free?

The copy of Mountain Lion you get through the Up-To-Date program is for installing exclusively on the qualifiying hardware. If you want to install on other hardware you own you'll need to make a seperate purchase.
You might want to read over the license agreement that is available via the MAS.

The phone number and SIM is irrelevant if you get 4G or not.
The phone hardware is what is relevant.

  • Hey,guys! Is there anyone know how to get the free OS X Mountain Lion exactly?

Excuse me.I'm still puzzled how to apply for the free 1.I bought my Pro on July, before release date.I try to apply for a free one on this webside:
                                                 https://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
but after I filled the table and send it,I saw the terms and conditions below, saying that:
To receive your OS X Mountain Lion upgrade, you must complete the order form and provide an electronic copy of a dated, itemized sales receipt indicating the marketing part number(s) of the qualifying product(s) purchased. Order acknowledgments, packing slips, and purchase order copies are not valid.
Completed order form and dated, itemized sales receipt must be emailed by August 24, 2012.
Well, the problem is how to email my paper receipt?should I take a photo for it and mail it?but I don't know send it to where, not an e-mail address has been mentioned on that webside,I mean.
    could you help me,please?

Open up Java Preferences and it will offer to download and install Java for you.
Otherwise you can open up a Terminal and type:
    java -version
Which will do the same thing.

  • Is the Up-To-Date Mountain Lion program down? I haven't received an email yet.

I submitted my form, and haven't gotten any confirmation or email code. Is the server down?

Try taking your question to the new Mountain Lion forum. As teach5 notes, the experts are saying that it will take up to 72 hours to receive an email with your redemption code. Sorry if that's true but it's not like you won't get what was promised - just a bit later than those who purchaed it.

  • I just purchased a Macbook Air and I didn't get the free os x mountain lion download

I just purchased a Macbook Air from the apple store and to install it i had to have my macbook plugged in so the technician told me to download it when i got home. Once i got home and turned it on it wouldn't allow me to install it without paying for it.

If you just bought it, it should already have Mountain Lion. Who did you buy it from?
If it really doesn't, got here: http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/

I have an older 13" macbook with snow leopard, I want to upgrade to the newest mountain lion, can i just purchase and instal?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Mountain Lion Redemption Code Downloaded OS X Server?

So anyone else have this problem this morning? Yesterday I signed up to the up to day program and was given an invalid redemption code. This morning I was sent another code and when I redeemed it, it downloaded OS X Server, NOT Mountain Lion... hmmm.... annoyed....
sent email to apple... lets see what happens.

Wow, I'll take one of those server codes!
I Received my "free" upgrade for my mac mini server only to realize (after completing the upgrade) that my Lion Server had been DOWNGRADED to a Mountain Lion workstation.
Apple support informed me that the server app was not included in the free upgrade. I feel that they should have at least informed me that I would have to purchase additional software after the "free" upgrade in order to mantain the funcutionality of my server. I had no need to upgrade, the existing software on my server provided everything I needed and worked flawlessly. Now I have the choice of reverting the server back to the old OS and hopefully getting everything working as it was, or pay the $20 ransome and get the server app for Mountain Lion.
