After Gingerbread update, clock unreliable

Seems to only synch at random times. I googled this, appears to a common problem with GB. Anyone else seeing this?

The widget "time & date" was changed so that it no longer displays in the 4x1 format that I use.  I downloaded a free-app and it's better (bigger text).  But, I have not had a problem with it keeping time.  I have 2 clocks on the screen, 1 with a second hand, and they seem to be working well.  But, I will keep an eye out.
BTW:  the Verizon network time is 15 seconds faster than the NIST National Time Reference clock, and every computer synced to it.  So, it runs 15 seconds faster than my work and home computers. But it has been consistently fast.

  • Restarts every 3 MINUTES after Gingerbread update!

Subject pretty much says it all.. I installed the update this afternoon (and did NOT install anything else since) and now my phone is restarting itself every 3 minutes! I don't even think that's enough time to get in and back up my apps and texts, so I would really rather not do a factory reset!
Even as I'm writing this, it's now restarting every 30-60 seconds, in safe mode... Please HELP!!!

Since no one else cared to help, I figured out my own solution.. Everything I read online said I probably had an app that didn't agree with the update and the easiest fix would be to factory reset it. Not what I wanted to hear, but whatever! So I backed up my apps using Astro File Manager and backed up my texts using Go SMS Pro (both free apps).. Took a few restarts to get that done!
To factory-reset, you hold the volume button and power button at the same time.. Then when the Samsung logo shows up, let go of the power button only.. You should then get a black screen with some colored text and one of your choices is "wipe data/factory reset". Use your volume button to go down to that option and then press your Home key. Press Home again to go through with the reset... THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR PHONE! Which is why you should back everything up first. There are easy-to-follow visual instructions on how to reset your phone here.. http://community.vzw.com/t5/Samsung-Fascinate/Gingerbread-update-bricked-my-phone-also/td-p/742556
Once reset, you will have a lot of reconfiguring to do but if you install Astro File Manager again you can fairly easily re-install your apps. I just installed the apps I use most, to see if any of those screwed with Gingerbread. So far, so good! Guess I will slowly re-install the rest over the next few days and hope nothing goes haywire again!

  • Streaming Apps no longer work after Gingerbread update

    Hi Folks,
Add this to the list of weirdness after the 2.3.4 update...I have some apps that I use to listen to streaming media, like AMR Radio and iCatholic Radio.  Ever since the 2.3.4 update they will not stream anymore. They seem to run just fine, you press play and it says that it's buffering audio and then...nothing. No error messages or anything just won't play.  I have already done a FR on the DINC and that did nothing to fix it.
I also can no longer stream audio or video files that are up on my DropBox and that used to work fine under FroYo as well. What gives?  BTW - this is true whether I am on 3G or WiFi.
Anyone else seeing this? Even better, anyone have a fix?
    thanks!

You can try clearing the data for the app by going to Settings / Applications / Manage Applications / (App Name) /  Clear Data or you can uninstall the app and reinstall the app because when you update with some apps installed it saves the settings from the previous OS and this is known to cause issues and this is why I suggest to hard reset before OS update..
Try the options above and see if it helps...

  • Corporate Sync now only allows 1 day after Gingerbread update

The title pretty much says it.  I had a Droid2 which was acting funky, and which would fail when I tried to update it to Gingerbread, so Verizon (kudos to them) sent me a "like-new" replacement Droid2 even though my warranty had just expired.
When I got the new phone, I immediately updated it to Gingerbread (successfully).  Then I went about setting everything up.  I had been using a Corporate Sync account on my old phone with my employer's Outlook (Microsoft exchange) to have all my work email on my phone.  The setup went fine, as it did on the old Froyo phone.  But, when I went to change the setting to have it sync all my email, the dropdown box only gives me the choice of "1 day".  It should be something like "1 day, 3 days, ... 30 days, all".
I deleted the account and set it back up, and still the same thing.
For those who don't know, you go to Messaging, click the settings button (the little four boxes on the bottom of the display), Manage Accounts, pick the Corporate Sync account, and scroll down to "Sync Messages for:" and you should be able to pick different lengths of time.
Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it?

Same problem here. com.motorola.contacts.data eating my battery alive; have to turn off data services to get my battery to last through the night. Also seems to have spawned some process called *wifi* (in addition to the existing process called Wi-Fi) that adds to the consumption.
None of those incredibly active types ever answered you? Bummer: so much for the crowdsourcing paradigm, I guess.

  • Anybody else having problems restarting after gingerbread update.

    mine in endless loop

    dannyfa & seaman & Parrori1,
Danny...if you are getting a new phone why not try this.  Seaman and Parrori1 too.
It worked for someone else in another forum when his was looping but he called VZ and they walked him through a Factory Reset which fixed the problem...no more looping.
Also, if your phone has been a good one until now you might want to keep it, especially if you get it working again, because VZ will send you a returned broken phone upon which they did a factory reset.
Do a full factory reset.  BTW, another reason to do this is security so your personal info is gone from the phone when you send it back.
Please let me know if you do this because I'm betting that you will find Gingerbread 2.3.6 is completely installed on the phone and the looping started after the phone did its final restart after the install was completed..
If you cannot get the factory reset to start up remove everything from the phone...the battery, the SD card, and the SIM card.  Then reinstall the SD card, SIM card, and the battery and then press the hold the button in until you see the word SAMSUNG to start up the phone.
If this fails call VZ and see if they can do a factory reset.
Anyhow it gives you something to do that you would have preferred not to do.
    Best regards,
    JerryF

  • Performance reduced under Bootcamp after EFI update on Macbook Pro Retina

after i upgraded EFI on my retina macbook pro the proformence reduced to unusable. under heavy load under bootcamp windows7. the cpu clock drops and as well as cpu clock. this is the screen shot of gpu clock monitoring from windows u can see the gpu clock is running at 270Mhz at most of the time and trying to be back to 725Mhz(yea, not 900Mhz!) when im running a graphic benchmark at same time cpu will run about 1.1Ghz as well. i noticed that it will run 10-20sec normally then CPU and GPU clock will start dropping. It's almost like speedstep is programmed backwards. My CPU is constantly running at 3.1-3.2GHz, and then as soon as a game loads, it drops to 1.2GHz. I've lost track of how many times I reset the SMC  reseting SMC PRAM, reinstalling windows using Bootcamp or even erease the entire drive and start over from network recovery MacOS did not solve this problem. so all the recent games like COD MW3, Starcraft II, BF3,or D3 will only run about about 10 fps as i was playing them with no ploblem before the EFI update.
this is killing me! please help.
im in NY, in this season i dont think is the overheating problem. when i check the temperature, it stays about 80C (fans will run about 4k rpm). but some time heavy loaded Mac OS cpu is about 90 degree but only with 3k rpm fan kicked in.
i did search online, seems that some other people have the same problem with rMBP or MBA 2012.
anyone knows if i take my macbook pro to the store, will those people work at genuines bar help me with this "windows" problem?
    thanks!

Hey Shadowyani, please take a time and fill a bug report at http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ . The machine is useless for me as it is now because I develop and use very GPU/CPU demanding scientific applications, after the update my realtime applications are completely useless as they drop from something like 25fps to 9 fps even on Mac OS X (no SMC reset fixed the issue). In bootcamp the situation is worse, my software runs at 4 fps and gaming turns to be impossible to play as well.
Please let Apple know about the problem, fill a bug report, even if SMC reset once in a while fixed the issue for you (this is not a common behaviour and must be fixed). We paid the price for cutting edge technology.
Apple shall not do a downgrade of the system after few weeks, remember that most of reviews and benchmarks were done BEFORE the EFI Update, so people are being fooled by Apple in this sense.

  • Multiple Samsung Stratosphere problems after FF1 update

There have been multiple posts on various issues users have found after the recent Stratopshere FF1 update.  Some were replys to older posts and some only touched on a single issue.  I wanted to consolodate into one thread, and hopefully get teh attention of Verizon to maybe reply here.
For reference, a lot has been discuss here --> https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/874446
Summary:  Verizon and Samsung have finally updated the Stratosphere almost 1 year after release.  This updated the phone from Android 2.3.5 to Android 2.3.6.  Going by filename, this is known as the FF1 update.   This update went live at the end of August 2012, and most users were upgraded before mid September 2012.
There were some noticable changes in this update:
-Lock screen has changed.  The puzzle piece and glass lock options have been removed.  New options have been added, such as facial recognition unlock.
-Call answering screen has changed, introducing the option to ignore call with a message.
-Camera now has digital zoom ability.
-Ability to uninstall the 2 games the phone comes with (Need for Speed and Lets Golf)
-Phone icon has changed ever so slightly
-Wifi icon now included up and down arrows to indicate data is being sent or recieved
-Wallpaper no longer "stretches" over multiple screens - ie, it no longer scrolls as you move from screen to screen
-The visual voicemail app has been improved (I have personally not used this feature)
-Callback number is now supported in text / picture messages
-Android core OS updated from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 (both versions are still Gingerbread)
-Update to how the device deals with the end of scrolling.  It used to rubber-band bounce back, now it will just give a green bar and expand the bar as you scroll.  (I cannot fault Samsung for this change as this was at teh core of an Apple lawsuit and has been changed in newer versions of Android.)
-(I am sure there are more.  please list any others you may have noticed)
I have found some problems, and others have confirmed that this is (at least) somewhat widespread:
-The biggest problem is with wifi connectivity.  Upon an initial connection to wifi, everything works great.  After somewhere between 15minutes and 2 hours, problems start happening.  Its as if the wifi keeps hanging or reconnecting.  Download speeds (tested with the SpeedTest.com app) slow to about one third of normal.  Apps like Facebook that require a constant connection will just time out.
-It appears the signal strength for 3g and 4g connections is lower.  There are places where I used to get a 4g connection, and now I only get 3g.  Some palces I fall back to just 2g digital.
Another minor issue i found was with text messages.  When you reply to a message, it no longer automatically focuses the text in the input box.  You have to first click into the box to start typing.  Not a huge deal, but one more step to take over and over.  Minor annoyence.
At my house, I struggle to get a 3g or 4g signal.  I depend on wifi for my data connection.  So with the wifi connection problem introduced by teh FF1 update, my phone is somewhat useless to me now while at home.  Here are teh troubleshooting steps I have been through so far to attempt to fix the wifi problem:
-Complete factory reset on my phone.  (did not help)
-Pull battery and SIM card out of phone for 15 minutes.  (did not help)
-Went to a Verizon store.  The guy at the store was helpful, and said he also had a Stratosphere and was getting the same wifi problems after the update.  He said all he could do was to send me out a replacement phone. I got the replacement phone, and it had the same problems.
-I read in multiple palces that Android 2.3.6 has a bug within wifi and DHCP.  Apparently if you have a DHCP lease set to "forever", the phone will keep requesting a new address.  Setting the DHCP server on the router to something like 2 weeks, or using a static IP is supposed to solve this.  I have a NetGear N900 router, and I can not change teh DHCP lease time.  It appears, however, that my router is not sending out "forever" leases.  But just to make sure, I gave my phone a static IP.  (None of these steps made any difference).
The only thing that temporarily fixes the problem is a reboot of the phone.  This will again give you anywhere from 15min to 2 hours of good wifi use before problems start happening.
I have now had this update for over a week, and on 2 phones.  I still can't maintain a wifi connection for much longer than 15 minutes without problems starting up.
I am asking Verizon or Samsung to at least confirm this issue if possible.  Maybe there are newer revs of the Stratopshere hardware that don't have this problem.  Or there is something unique about my (and apparently others) situation.  But it seems like Verizon's current stance is to offer a repalcement phone (as currently all Stratospheres are within their 1 year manufacture warranty as the phone has not been ouy for quite 1 year yet).
I am asking for a workaround for this problem, or a true fix adressed by a new software update, or at least allow us to roll back to the original Andorid 2.3.5 software.
I have had my original Stratosphere for almost a year with no wifi problems - then get the FF1 update and have had nothing but problems on 2 different phones.
    Thank you for your time.

Thanks for starting a comprehensive thread on problems with this update. I want to add one more.
I have Bluetooth in my car (a 2004 model), and previously the phone has connected to it practically instantly when I start the car. Since the update, I have never been able to connect the phone to the car by Bluetooth. Several times the phone has made a standard notification sound at the moment it should be connecting to Bluetooth, though no notification appears. I have no idea what that could mean. The car's Bluetooth shows up as paired in the list of devices in Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings. I haven't seen this widely reported as an update issue, but perhaps some others have experienced it too.
UPDATE: I finally did some testing, and found that the notification was to signal the extremely brief appearance of a dialog indicating that the car's Bluetooth was requesting a connection. Accepting that request let the phone connect with the car, and calls went to the car's sound system as they should. When I turned the car off and back on (just the electrical system; not wasting any gas on this!), the connection was established immediately, so apparently the acceptance only had to be done once. Nevertheless, it did have to be done, and the dialog notification disappears within seconds. I believe it would have been possible to go into Bluetooth settings and accept the connection request there if I missed the notification; but not seeing the notification, I might not know to do this.
One further observation: When I turned the phone's Bluetooth off and back on after a connection had been established, leaving the car on the whole time, the two did not reconnect. I believe that may be different from before the update, but I'm not really sure.

  • MP wont restart after software update

I just did the recent batch of updates including system update, QT, Motion, and many more and suddenly in the middle of a panic of deadlines, the computer will not get past the rotating ring/clock that often happens for only a few moments on any OSX machine. In the old days I'd disconnect SCSI, the network connection, etc. but am not sure where to go on the new machine and given the deadline am afraid to go hogwild. It's a brand-spankin' new machine so the fact this has gone 20+ minutes is mind-blowing.
Any ideas, much appreciated with any trouble shooting help.
PS: i'm on my powerbook -- that machine seems to be in a coma.
    Thanks,
    Dan T.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

It sounds like a known bug for which a fix is already in [testing] and other information is available here on the forums.
Is your hardware clock set to UTC?  and/or do you dual boot with Windows?

  • Gingerbread update - Bluetooth no longer working in car

I have seen people complaining about this issue on other forums - lots of phone models and car models are affected.  My bluetooth was wworking perfectly for hands-free calling prior to the Gingerbread update.  Bluetooth stopped working the day I received my Gingerbread update last week.  I've tried everything I can try.  Apparently there is no resolution to the issue yet.  Verizon tech support could not help - they told me to contact HTC.  HTC tech support had no clue.  I want to revert back to Froyo, but apparently that's not possible either.  I am VERY frustrated.  I loved Android, but bluetooth in my car is a very important feature for me.  Might be time for an iPhone...
If anyone has any solutions for this issue, please let me know.  By the way, I have read in other forums that a factory reset does not work - it keeps the same phone software.  It's something that changed in Gingerbread that is causing the problem.  I would love to get rid of Gingerbread.

    Smitty,
I don't have Gingerbread (yet, and I'm thinking that's a good thing at this point), but I've had the same problem with my DInc before with my 7 week old new car.  After an initial successful link-up and upload of my phone book, my phone wouldn't maintain a connection either.
Here's my suggestion for you, because It's my current work around to get my bluetooth connection to work:
    1) Unpair your car bluetooth and your phone so you can start from scratch
    2) Re-pair your DInc and your car
    3) When your phone connects to your car, you'll hopefully get a pop-up dialogue box on your phone asking to link to your phone book.  At this point, say no to the phone book link.  You *should* hopefully have a good bluetooth connection now, and you'll still have the ability to dial from your phone book.  If you don't get the pop-up, well...I'm out of ideas.  Sorry.
I don't know what capability that pop-up dialogue box on the phone supports, but it sure screws up my bluetooth connection in my car.

  • [SOLVED] RT2870 drops connection after pacman update

Since last pacman upgrade my USB wireless works for just a few seconds while used; while watching transfer speed I see at first full speed and then going slower and slower and in a few secs totally stopped, without being disconnected. I have to reboot to get it working again (worked sometimes by ip link set wlan 0 down & up)
No difference using Wicd or networkmanager.
I have never had any issues earlier even since Kernel 3.0.
Linksys router with standard WPA2 configuration, other computers in house connecting without problems.

certainly didn't expect this... turned off power saving
    iwconfig wlan0 power off
and all is well again. Surely doesn't explain why it started after kernel update. But it works...

  • Someone please clarify some things for me about this Gingerbread update.

Alright... Someone please help me with some information. I hate to sound like I'm living under a rock, but I'm confused about this update I keep hearing about. How do I know which update I have? A couple months ago, maybe, I was just tinkering with my settings and selected "about phone" and it said there was an update available, so I downloaded it, and it changed the appearance of my home screen and different other things, but my phone worked just as good as it did before, so that is all that I noticed about it, that it looked different and I liked it, so I was happy with it. A couple of weeks ago I started having problems out of the blue with my multi-touch keyboard. I googled this forum and made an acct and someone named Cody was helping another user with the same problem, which was selecting space while texting and it taking away the keyboard leaving you to select the text space again, only to hit space and have it go away again, which forced me to use periods after every word so I could avoid hitting space. Anyway, he said to turn word prediction off. It worked for the guy he was helping, and it worked for me as well. I was happy and thought everything was back to normal. Well, a few days later I noticed that while texting if I hit the period symbol, exclamation point, question mark, or any other symbol or punctuation mark, it freezes what I pressed on my keyboard and the keyboard will not go away. I can exit out of text messaging, and get back to my home screen however the keyboard is still frozen on the screen with the symbol pressed down. Also I have an issue with my camera flashing on and off when I am trying to take a picture, and it will not let me snap a shot. I push the buttom down to auto focus and it just flashes on and off on the camera screen, the flash will sporatically come on and off and it's just all shot out, just out of the blue. I went into settings for my text msging and just unchecked everything, to see if that would help. I wrote 2 msgs using punctuation purposely and had no problems. But, my camera still will not work. Is this all because of this update that I downloaded? I just see a lot of people complaining about Gingerbread update and I don't even know what I have. I also had no clue that it's a good idea to reset your phone before or after an update. I didn't do this. I just updated my phone. Will it do any good now to reset it to its original state? I don't understand that at all because it would seem like if I reset the phone to factory.... wouldn't that take away the update that I downloaded anyway? I'm so confused someone please set me straight! Sorry for the long post but really I am just trying to understand what's going on with my phone. Thanks for any advice/help.

    Welcome to the forum.
OK, as far as which version you have, it sounds like you got Gingerbread. If you go into About Phone, GB is Android version 2.3.3 and the System Version is 4.5.596....
As far as the Keyboard issue, many have had success by turing off the word prediction, as I mentioned. Others have not. Some have had luck by first doing a Clear Caceh procedure (see below). The next step after that is a Full factory reset (which is what Verizon will likely have you do if you get them involved).  Personally, I have yet to need to do the Factory Reset - others have and even go as far as recommend it..  So I would start with Clear Cache and see if that helps. If not, do a Search for "In and Out of Factory Reset" using the search feature above. You really need to undertsand it before blindly jumping into it. Good luck.
    Wiping cache partition
    Power off
    Power On Holding Home Key
When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

  • [SOLVED] broken gnome after lib update

    Hi all
After the update, startx fails w/ gnome but not w/ kde. I know that my xf86-video-intel was changed to xf86-video-intel-uxa. next I tried xf86-video-intel-sna (because it is listed on arch's xps15z page) and still no success.
I would really love some help. The actual fail goes something like: wallpaper, mouse, top bar (w/ clock etc) and then the bottom bar, and right when it looks like it will hand over control, I get dropped into gnome error screen letting me know that something went wrong.
    Thank you

I am. I prefer to run as root.
I have tried running as non root and the result is the same.
Do you think it has to do with /lib changes?

  • Unable to restart after software update 10.3.1.1779

I am unable to get  my Z10 to restart after this update.
I have searched endless avenues and have now resorted to deleteing the notifcations for this update when they come in, I have downloaded and installed it, but when asked to restart, my phone stalls on the loading screen forever, the longest I have waited for it to restart is 3 days, with 24 hours of that on 99%.
I am now the but of all phone related jokes as everyone I know has an IPHONE that works perfectly, but I insist on keeping this awful Z10 becuse I dont want to join their rank....too tink I spent £500 on this when it came out (more fool me)
It would seem that the general consensus is, I will have to go to the inconveience of taking my Z10 in to a phone shop, were they will send it off to BB for the update to be installed.
PS; Blacberry's forum is as hard to navigate as the phone is to actually get working proberly.

This has been the worst software update I have ever encountered. My Q10 is completely unreliable and I am going to switch to another device in the morning. I have restored factory settings and have successfully wiped the app to sync my shared Google Calendars, the z and y keys have swapped on my keypad and the Q10 still turns itself off arbitrarily, wipes all text and phone messages and can't recall what network I'm on or what my home wifi settings are.

  • Xperia Neo media server doesn't work anymore with Sony Bravia TV after ICS update!

Xperia Neo (MT15i) updated from 2.3.4 to 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431). I did not perform any reset (factory settings) after the update.
Media server does not work anymore with Sony Bravia TV KDL40-NX700. With 2.3.4 it worked correctly before.
When I start the media server on my Xperia Neo and try to view my photos on my Bravia TV it shows connection, I am also able to view different folders on the Smartphone but when it tries to load the photos in any folder on the Smartphone it stops working after a while. Feedback on TV is "cannot connect to media sever". The same procedure worked without any problems when using 2.3.4 before.
Is this a known issue and is there any solution for this?

Wow that is a new one, great find!
I wish I had tested that with my Ray, as I had used the media server feature quite a bit with my DirecTV receiver when on Gingerbread.  But too late, it's on the way back to Sony to get rolled back to Gingerbread.
Too many other problems with ICS that have crippled my device.
    1) Wi-Fi Hotspot does not work anymore
    2) USB tethering does not work anymore
    3) LED notification issues for incoming SMS
    4) Dialer slow to load
    5) HD Video recording skip frames and jitter.
    6) Bluetooth AVRCP profile broke (can't use the play/pause button on my car stereo anymore)
If you have not done so take a look at the above features and see what you turn up.
