After going haywire, Firefox refuses to uninstall

Firefox has stopped working. I therefore decided to uninstall and re-install it. It will not uninstall.

Uninstalling and re-installing does not necessarily solve problems. See however suggestions in adjacent post [/questions/917642]

I have the menu and all of my bookmark names are listed but when you click on them nothing happens. I right click and went to properties and nothing is filled in which explains why clicking on it does no good. Is there a backup of this information and how do I retrieve it. To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Opening attachments goes to firefox downloads ,after a few days i click open and it won't open

opening attachments goes to firefox download, after a day I rt click to open and it won't. What do I have to do to get it in my computer download file. It is not going there either.

Do you have any cleanup or anti-virus software that may have removed the files?
If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location.

What I suggest you do here is to use Adobe's uninstaller tool to uninstall Flash first of all: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Then reboot, go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and reinstall it.
I notice too that you have an outdated version of Shockwave For Director. You can update that via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

  • After updating to Firefox 3.6.15, Firefox will not connect to the Internet, even after uninstalling and re-installing Firefox in my Windows XP environment.

After downloading the Firefox 3.6.15 update, my problems began. Firefox would not connect to the Internet. When I rebooted my PC, Firefox said that it couldn't access any Web sites. I uninstalled Firefox, then downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15. I still have the same problem: Firefox will not connect to the Internet. I am running Windows XP, service pack 3. I never had problems with Firefox until I installed version 3.6.15.

I have XP Pro. I tried installing 3.6.15 and could not open it. I did a system restore and 3.6.14 would no longer open. I tried again installing 3.6.15 and got a message that the previous version had not uninstalled properly. Tried uninstalling.
As a precaution I used MozBackup to save my bookmarks etc. and also saved a system restore point.
I then clicked Start, My Computer, drive C, Program Files and deleted the Firefox folder.
I installed 3.6.15 and it is now working fine with all my bookmarks and addons loaded automatically.

  • Clock goes haywire after resume

After my PC wakes up from sleep, as soon as it connects to my network the time goes haywire. It goes several days in the future. NTPD is running and it is not fixing the time.

I have the same issue here, like about 1 month or so. My laptop is ASUS N52DA - I think that posting some details can be useful.

If someone needs any other info - please ask. Setting up NTPD doesn't help anything. On Windows it works fine.

  • After updating firefox today to 6.0, firefox is unable to load multiple tabs at the same time. When I try, firefox refuses to load any pages, and instead is stuck trying to connect to each page.

After I updated firefox to 6.0 today firefox has developed a problem loading multiple tabs. When I try to load 10+ tabs, either at the same time or by opening each tab separately, each tab is stuck trying to connect to the desired page. This continues if I close all the tabs and try to load a single page, the single page is unable to get pass connecting. In order to load a new page when this situation arises I must close down firefox and start again, and the program has no history of the previous session.

Do a MALWARE check with these Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • After downloading 8.0, Firefox refuses to open. Had to contact you with IE!!

Have an HP laptop running W7 Home 64-bit. The obnoxious update box from Firefox bugged me so much, I finally accepted. Now Firefox refuses to open.

'''No''', Firefox doesn't disable your anti-virus software. Firefox does disable the silly little add-ons that AVG ''(and other AV applications)'' install as Firefox add-ons, because those add-ons are out of date for the new version of Firefox.
These AV vendors need to work on getting their Firefox add-ons to automatically update when Firefox is updated, just like the 10's of thousands of add-0ns hosted by Mozilla automatically update as part of the Firefox update procedure.
See AVG support for details about what you need to do. Might be that a Live Update to get the update or maybe a patch needs to be installed.

  • Problem loading pages after update to Firefox 36

After updating from Firefox 35.0.1 to version 36, I am unable to load any pages in Firefox. (My internet connection is fine and I can use other browsers on the same computer.)
I've already tried many troubleshooting routines to fix the problem but none have worked. I've tried the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating
(including troubleshooting my Firewall and proxy settings)
    and here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can
I've also tried the more general and extensive troubleshooting here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems
NONE of the suggestions in any of those pages solved the problem. Opening Firefox is Safe Mode did not help either. I was unable to load pages even in Safe Mode.
After following all of the steps in all of those troubleshooting guides and still failing, I uninstalled Firefox completely. (I followed all official directions on how to uninstall.) Then I re-installed Firefox VERSION 35.0.1. Firefox again worked fine with the older version.
Then I restored my profile from a backup using MozBackup. (My most recent backup was done when I had Ver. 35.0.1 installed.) Everything was still fine; Firefox worked fine and all of my settings were back to my preferences.
Finally, I again tried to update to version 36 - and the same thing happened! Unable to load any pages!
One other thing I've noticed: With version 36 installed, there is something wrong with my Options dialog. The first time I upgraded, I had only blank tabs for "General" and "Advanced"; with my second try, after updating to V 36 my Options dialog has blank tabs for "General" and "Search" (although Advanced is now showing.)
I am going to uninstall again, and again go back to V 35.0.1. But I would like to be able to update to the newest version. What can I do?
(I am a long-time Firefox user, and reasonably computer savvy. I have many extensions installed as I use Firefox as an important tool in my job as a website designer. I have Firefox extensively fine-tuned to my liking to optimize my work-flow.)
    Any help appreciated!

Your message seems to have covered all the normal things we check.
    When you tried using v36, did you have any add-ons? Have you tried;
    '''Windows: 32-bit''' C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p
    '''64-bit''' C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p
'''Mac:''' Navigate to '''/Applications/Utilities.''' Open the Terminal application.
In the Terminal application, enter the following:
    /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p
'''Linux:''' In '''Terminal''' run: firefox –P
For users who have one or more builds from mozilla.org this will not work.
It would be best to have the full path so if you had placed the untared contents
in a folder in /home it would be /home/<username>/foldername/firefox/firefox –P
An easy way would be not to do it in a terminal but in say a launcher since
you have to point it to the firefox script in Firefox folder you can then add –P
on end. You can also have the exact "profilename" after the -P so Firefox
    will start with that Profile.

I installed Firefox 6.0.2 on a Windows Server 2003 box. This box is a terminal server with 9 users that are going to use Firefox. The other users are going to use IE. When asked to reboot now or later, I chose Later. After sometime I rebooted, the message "you need to reboot in order to complete the install" reappears. Over and over again. Can not uninstall (same message) Can not open Firefox (same message) Many reboots using various users, the same results.
    Help!

The question appears to relate more to the OS than be a firefox problem, but as I have never used Windows Server 2003, I am unable to help.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
