After i edit in photoshop and save back to lightroom, the new pic doesn't save next to the old

it usually saves to the front of my quick collection (annoying) but after I open and close lightroom a few times, it gets lost altogether (inserted somewhere in the middle)

In the Library Module go >View >Sort and check <Filename> and <Ascending> or <Descending> whichever you prefer.

    Easy steps
Locate the document in the Finder.
    Control/Right-Click on its icon.
    Select Show Package Contents

  • Is it possible to edit a DNG file in Photoshop and get back to Lightroom?

    Hi,
The question title probably doesn't explain much what I'm looking for...
I shot in RAW and then converted to DNG, I like DNG and I can't understand what so many people have against it, anyway that's not the point...
I know have the DNG as my digital negative instead of the original RAW file and I start to do some editing in Lightroom. But then I realized that Lightroom is not enough for something I want to do. For instance, just today I had this picture I needed to remove some people and I had to use heal/clone but as you know, Lightroom's clone and heal features are not as flexible as Photoshop ones.
So now I needed to go into Photoshop, fix the photo and get back to Lightroom and continue my editing. However, I couldn't find a way to do it how I wanted to do... What I did was open the original (unedited) DNG in Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw pops up and I ignore it, remove the people from the photo and save as TIFF. Then, back in Lightroom I open the new edited TIFF and copy Lightroom's settings from one photo (the DNG) to the other (the edited TIFF).
This workflow sucks and I know there are some options in Lightroom to automate it, but still, I don't think it would solve my problem. At least I couldn't find a way to do it...
What I wanted to do instead was to indeed remove that people from the photo with Photoshop but keep those changes in DNG. But take a note here that those changes could very much be destructive, I'm not talking about ACR or Lightroom's non-destructive editing, the removed people would be gone forever unless I draw some new ones. I really wanted to edit and save some changes on the DNG in Photoshop and keep editing the DNG in Lightroom without using a TIFF in between, do everything in the DNG.
Is this possible or not at all?

sorry, no can do...ain't gonna happen.
What you've done is hit the wall on is the basic difference between lite duty spot healing and photo level tone and color correction (Lightroom and Camera Raw) and heavy duty pixel retouching in Photoshop.
When you need to substantially manipulate the "pixels" you need Photoshop and you'll be forced to render the raw file into a TIFF or PSD file either through Camera Raw or more better, via Lightroom.
You can do the basic tone and color correction directly in Lightroom and edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. But you will NEED to create and save out a "rendered" image that is no longer raw...then retouch to your heart's desire, save it and it'll be available in Lightroom along side your original raw if you choose.
But no, there's no way to open a raw in Photoshop, manipulate the heck out of it with massive retouching then save that back out as a raw file...ain't gonna happen.

  • "Edit in Photoshop CC 2014" option in Lightroom 5.5 - Photo doesn't open in CC2014

When i use the "Edit in Photoshop CC 2014" option in Lightroom 5.5, Photoshop CC2014 will open, but the photo I want to edit in Photoshop, doesn't load up. To edit a photo in CC14 I have had to set up an Export option that saves the photo as a tiff and then opens in CC2014. Is there a setting I have missed to enable the transfer using "Edit in..."
    Thanks
    Andrew

I started having this problem after I uninstalled Photoshop CC.  I even tried not removing its preferences while uninstalling, but I still ended up with the same problem.  The only solution I can find is to reinstall Photoshop CC.  Only then will Photoshop CC 2014 open a photo from Lightroom 5.5.  I also notice that with DNGs, I no longer am presented with an option to "edit original," "edit with Lightroom changes," etc.  It just opens the DNG with LR changes.  When opening a PSD, however, I do see this prompt.  When installing the upgrades, Adobe said we could uninstall Photoshop CC and continue using Photoshop CC 2014 once we were comfortable with Photoshop CC 2014.  Apparently that's not the case when using Lightroom's "edit in" feature.  I'm really disappointed that I have to keep unused applications installed just to make another application work semi-properly.  :-(

  • Edit files in Photoshop and going back to Lightroom

When I right click a photo in Lightroom and say edit in Photoshop, I do the edits needed and then click save but it doesn't take the changes back to Lightroom. We are using Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I have never had any trouble with this before so was wondering if there is some setting I need to chanage. I keep having to re import them and then it leaves a white box like it lost the photo in the row at the bottom. Please reply!

  • Editing in Photoshop and Keeping Layers in Lightroom

I just switched to Lightroom and my workflow has slowed to a crawl, but in a week or two I hope to be moving along again.
From Lightroom I exported a file to be edited in Photoshop.  I saved it as a PSD with layers.  Later I sent it back to Photoshop, but it was flattened.  I did this regularly in Aperture and all the layers were retained so I'm sure Lightroom can do it.  What did I miss here?

Thanks Jim, it is a more of a challenge than I expected trying to get my head around all of this and still keep the workflow going.  My question was based on one experience so perhaps there were some things I overlooked.  Essentially you answered my question though and I'm glad to know it is possible so, back to work.

  • Can't see iPhoto pics that are edited in PS and saved back to iPhoto

Photos that are edited in Photoshop and saved back into iPhoto don't show up in the iPhoto window. Only the originals show up. When I do a search, I see that they are saved in a "modified" folder inside iPhoto. How can I see them in the iPhoto window? I would like to "trash" some of them. Can I just drag them to the trash from the "modified" folder or will that foul up the iPhoto database?
    Rick

    Maybe this will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop" and Lightroom 2.1 failing to import new file

I am a new user to Lightroom, so I won't be surprised if the problem is at the dull end of the keyboard...
I am working with Lightroom 2.1 (still in my 30-day free trial), Photoshop CS3 with ACR 4.6, on Windows XP (fully updated). My image files are mostly .cr2 files (canon raw).
When I "edit with photoshop" in Lightroom, it fires up Photoshop and brings the file up for edit as expected. Photoshop shows the file name as something like _MG_2326.CR2, as (I presume) expected. When I'm done editing in Photoshop, and I save the file, Lightroom brings up a message "The file could not be imported because it could not be read." and "It may be an incompatible format." on a second line.
If I synchronize the folder in Lightroom it picks up the save file without issue (though its not automatically stacked with the original).
I have tried messing around with the different options in the preferences "external editing" tab -- file format, color space and bit depth (I can't imagine resolution would matter). No joy there.
I have also tried setting photoshop up as the additional external editor and if I do that it works correctly. However, in this case, it makes a copy of the file before opening photoshop which slows things down a little.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen before? Any solutions or work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • LR2: Edit in Photoshop and Stack

    Hi
Just updated to LR2. One annoyance: when I edit in Photoshop CS3 and save, the image goes back into the lightroom catalog without the pick/reject flag.
Normally, I filter by 'pick' - and the new version doesn't appear. To get it I have to go back into the Library, find it in the stack, move it to the top and pick it. Seems a very slow process. LR1.0 did not do this! Any ideas??
    Thanks
    Peter

I see the same issue and it is an annoyance. The PSD should adopt the same flag status as the mother RAW -- so that we can see them without changing our filters.
Did it work this way in earlier versions?

I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
    - If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
    - If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.

And why not? Apple is selling these things like BigMacs. They can't make enough of them. You've been suffering since May because you refuse to get a decent router.
Can you imagine if a company that makes a refrigerator told me that I needed to upgrade my electrical system to rectify a problem with their device? What kind of response IS that?!?!
What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle?

After reformatting iPod to NTFS and restoring back with iTunes, the player works for two-three weeks and crashes afterward. It then requests to restore it through iTunes. When connected to iTunes, it sees it in the restore mode and also asks to restore the iPod. It happens over and over for the last months. What could be the problem?
    iPod Classic 80Gig.
    Thanks in advance.

    Dear planb77
Thanks for a reply. iPod does not support ntfs - you're right. that means it will never work on that. While restoring ipod using iTunes, itunes reformats it no matter what filesystem is there. So the issue is not that. ipod is now on fat32 and it works for a certain period of time, but then crashes and asks to restore through itunes. Resetting/restarting does not help.

  • Edit in Photoshop and retain LR edits in LR 3

Every time I select Edit in Photoshop CS5 I loose my Lightroom 3 edits. How do I retain my Lightroom 3 edits like I used to be able to in LR2
    Jim

    Hello Jonathon,
Thank you for the reply. It appears that the edits made in lightroom are being passed to photoshop the way LR 2x would act when selecting "Edit with Lightroom adjustments". I just do not get any options. Photoshop is opened and the image is passed to Photoshop as a DNG.
I have checked all the Lightroom preferences and cannot see anything that is configurable that could cause this behavior. I checked my LR 3 in Vista and LR 3 in Windows 7 and they act identically.
The original problem of not keeping the adjustments corrected itself when I removed the beta version of Photoshop CS5.

  • Does the student teacher edition of photoshop and premiere elements 13 have to be renewed yearly?

Does the student teacher edition of photoshop and premiere elements 13 have to be renewed yearly?

that depends whether you were using the subscription cc version or the perpetual license version.
if you can open, for example,  pse, click help and if you see activate/deactivate you have the perpetual license version and do not need to renew.  if you see sign in/sign out, you have the subscription version and will need to maintain your subscription to continue to use your cc program(s).
