All I can say is the books I've created as gifts to my children for their children were received with absolute joy and appreciation (each book chronicled in pictures the first year of each grandchild's life). Granted the sentimental factor had a lot to do with the recipient's enjoyment of the book but they were spetacular. The book with its glossy dust cover is a very impressinve way to present your photos.
As Larry has pointed out so many have posted here that they were very satisfried with their book and Apple is very good about correcting problems.
To make sure there are no errors in the book before you order preview the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If the PDF file shows no errors, either in text typos (my biggest problem) or in missing photos, etc., the printed book will be error free.

After Finish editing, no done key on LR version 3.6

When I finish editing my photo on my LR version 3.6, I don't see a done key on bottom right.
Is this normal, as I have seen the done key when I see some youtube tuturials.
I have to just go to export to save the finish file each time, and was wondering if this is nomal on this version ?

There isn't a "Done" button in Lightroom because the image itself is never changed. All adjustments are stored in the catalog as they are made, so technically your image is in a constant state of being changed. If you want to pass on a copy of that image that includes all of the adjustments that you have done using Lightroom, then you export a copy and share the copy. But the original remains in Lightroom.
I think a workflow that many use is to export copies as needed for clients, or e-mail, or whatever. Then, when their purpose has been fulfilled, that copy is erased so that the only image you need to be concerned with at any time is that master image.
It is possible to save all metadata to the file. In the case of raw images that will create an XMP sidecar file. Other formats will have that information written into the file itself. I don't normally use this option. But Lightroom can be configured to automatically write that metadata. In any case, there is no need for a Done button in Lightroom. I don't know what version you saw videos from that included one. There is a done button in Camera Raw, but not in Lightroom.

You don't need to make a virtual copy before you edit the photo (this is optional, but most people don't bother as its extra work with little or no benefit). EXCEPTION: If you are doing multiple crops of the image, you would need virtual copies in that case, created after all other editing is completed.
You can't "save" from Lightroom, you can "export". (It's a terminology thing) You would need to export a photo at the desired dimensions for printing, but there's no need to retain this exported photo, you can consider it temporary and delete it once the print has been made, knowing that you can always re-create it exactly from Lightroom if you need it.
So to answer the question in your title, all you need to retain on your hard disk is your original image (and in the EXCEPTION case where you have multiple crops of the image, you would retain the multiple virtual copies in Lightroom).

MacBook Pro / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better. Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG. However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success. So here's what I did:
1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
5. Go back to the Get Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

Reverse Telecine On Finished Edit, Or Only Original Clips?

Can a reverse telecine be performed on a finished edit? (By this, I mean an uncompressed export from FCP). Or can this only be done on the original clips?
I am editing a short shot on S16mm. The negative was telecined, output to miniDV, then captured in FCP using a Panasonic DVX-100.

if you work with the material as is (ie 29.97) and create a timeline, then export that and attempt a reverse telecine on it, you will find that cinema tools can't handle it. the cadence of the 3:2 field rhythms will change from clip to clip (unless you are crazy lucky). so you'll end up with some shots looking fine and others incorrectly converted.
best to do all material up front to edit in 23.98 timelines (or stay in 29.97, though this is a less favoured option for me).

I would like to capture in iMovie HD 6 and edit in FCP 6. This workflow is much faster for me for this king of project.

The question that is lingering in my mind is "why add iMovie to your workflow to begin with?"
The capture HDV in FCP and render in ProRes workflow seems a bit more streamlined. I'm not entirely sure about this, but you may be able to capture in FCP as AIC, but I don't have any HDV equipment around that I can test this out with. I thought I read about this somewhere, but can't remember exactly where and when.

Systemd and starting another program after OpenVPN finishes connecting

I have a program that I want to launch only when OpenVPN has established a connection. The problem is it is instead starting too soon, and going out into the Internet first before later using the OpenVPN connection. I am having it start after OpenVPN with the following two lines in the .service file:
Requires=[email protected]
After=[email protected]
Is there a proper way to have it instead start after OpenVPN finishes its connection? Right now I manually can start it after systemctl status [email protected]

But that manually method is very much suboptimal. I also want to have this other program start at boot which would completely preclude the manual method.

What if you use Requisite=[email protected]? As I understand it, that will ensure that the service is active and running before allowing the next to start...
Additionally, if you want to be able to start the unit manually, without the openvpn.service started (that is by using "systemctl start <whatever>"), then you could use RequisiteOverridable=[email protected]
Edit: I guess there is also the additional question of whether the unit reports a success after starting the binary or actually making a connection. I have never used openvpn, so I don't know about this. But take, for example, the network.target and the network management services. With the exception of NetworkManager.service (more specifically the NetworkManager-wait-online.service), the service is reported as successful, and the network.target is reached when the daemon itself is started, not when a full connection has been established. If it reports success before full connection, that will make this much harder.

Thanks for the additional information.
After you have your Timeline content ready for export with destination burn to disc, if you do not go to Tools Menu/Movie Menu to apply disc menus and you go instead directly to Publish+Share/Disc, you will get an automatic message for a Yes or No answer with regard to disc menus.
If you do not want menus, then just click No and you should next see the following
where you make your burn to choice.
The Yes or No message should be for Publish+Share/Disc and not Publish+Share/Computer.
You cannot export a file with menus to the hard drive.
If you went Timeline content, Tools Menu/Movie Menu, and applied a menu, and then decided that you do not want a menu, the go to the top of the Movie Menu customization area and click on Reset, followed by Done. And, then go to Publish+Share/Computer and your choice for the export to file saved to the computer hard drive.
Please review the above and let us know if you are OK with the above details.

Insert source clip after multi-cam editing, how?

I created a sequence using multiple clips and did all my colour corrections. Then I created a new sequence by dragging on new items, sequence is now green. Enabled Mulit-cam editing and started the process.
After i finished, I noticed two clips have blown highlights. Looking at original source I accidentally add two levels. I tried deleting the blown highlight clips and replace them with the original, this did not work too well.
Is there a method I can insert clips after multi-cam editing?
I hope all this makes senses.

Here's how I did it a few times:
1. Add video tracks (and audio tracks if needed) to your timeline to equal the number of cameras you have. Of course if you have more than 4 this will start to get impractical.
2. Edit in your clips from your different camera angles, one to each video track.
3. Double click each clip in turn to get it into the viewer and click the Motion tab. Change its scale to 50%.
4. Select each clip in turn in the timeline and move it to one corner of the canvas. You need to have "image + wireframe" selected in the Canvas popup menu in order to move it with the mouse.
You should now have up to 4 different camera angles shown at the same time in the Canvas, each in its own quadrant.
5. Now the hard part is to align each clip according to time. Hopefully you have some sort of visual cue you can use to align the clips.
6. Then play through the timeline and use the razor tool to cut the clips where you want a camera angle change.
7. Select each camera angle piece you want from each cut you made and change its scale back to 100% and center it at 0,0. Delete the unused clips.
8. If you want, you can move all the clips that remain back to v1 so that you can use transitions between them.
What to do with all the various audio is another question. I usually use the audio from the best source all the way through, only changing to the other camera angle's audio when necessary.

Not able to view catalogs in CCM after clicking on "edit catalog"

Hi all,
I am not able to view a single catalog (supplier, procurement or master) in CCM after clicking on edit catalog.
After clicking on "start" pushbutton, it is giving warning message "Error while editing Master catalog"
Could anybody tell me, what would be the problem ??

but this problem is only for my user ID and not for all other user ID.
when we tried with other user IDs, all the catalogs are in green state and working fine. For my ID I am not able to view any catalog into edit catalog screen. When I am trying to search any catalog it is giving me warning message "Error in master catalog". When checked in SLG1 I got error as "catalog (catalog name) not found".
Is it related to any user setting or like that... as this is the issue with my individual ID.
Please suggest.

Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.

You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

The Firefox versions which come with many Linux distros have the default Mozilla Firefox updater disabled and use the distros built-in updater.
