After  I saved my project in Premiere Pro, a few hours later I can't open my project anymore, what can I do?

We need waaaaaaay more information. Here's the stock request for info to provide: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
And here are essential particulars:
Win or Mac? Exactly which version?
Version of Premiere Pro -- the exact number as shown in the About box.
What exactly happens when you try to open the project? Do you get an error message? Does Premiere crash? Hang?
How exactly are you attempting to open it? By double-clicking on the project file? By launching Premiere and selecting the project from the list of recently opened ones? ...
Can you create a new project?

  • After updating Mavericks I can't open my Mac.  What can I fix it?

Today when I turn on my Mac it only appears the OSX utilities screen.  I don't know if it is because when I updated my Mac to Mavericks, because of lack of space in the HD, Mavericks was saved in an external disc.  I don't know if this Mavericks update was saved in the Mac HD and that's why it's all mixed up.  How can I fix it?  When helping me, please take in consideration I'm just a computer user.  Thank you in advance,

I don't have the option to put Mavericks on the internal disk.  The late OS was on the internal disk but last year when I tried to update to Mavericks there was not enough space to do it.  The program offered the opportunity to download it on the external disk and I do it.  Big mistake, it took me a couple of months to find someone to help me fix it, (to redirect the applications and recover my music).  I just didn't learn and updated again. :(.
Can I  just go back to the late Maverick version?  And how?

  • Trouble opening Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro

    Hi All,
Just bought Production Premium CS6. I've been working on a project in Premiere Elements 9, and I'd like to continue working on it in the new snazzy Premiere Pro CS6. But when I try to open the project file I get the following error:
"The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I can still open the project in PrE, though, and I can even open other PrE projects in PrPro.
I've tried opening autosave versions, but always get the same error.
Any thoughts on what else to try? I really hate the idea of dropping so much money on PrPro and having to continue editing in PrE.
    Thanks!
    Martin

So long as the versions of PrE and PrPro are contemporary, the PREL (PrE Project file) should open, or Import, with some caveats:
There are many 3rd party Effects and Transitions, that are in PrE, that do not exist in PrPro - hence their use can cause issues. An example would be the NewBlue FX Effects/Transitions.
There are features in PrE, that do not exist in PrPro, and these can cause problems. An example would be Themes/Instant Movie.
PrE has a tiny subset of the Sonic AuthorCore modules (a larger subset makes up the basis of Encore) used for DVD/BD authoring, and if one has done any authoring in PrE, such as Create Menus, or the application of Chapter, or Menu Markers. Those authoring aspects can cause problems.
First, I would attempt to Import (not Open) the PREL into PrPro.
If that does not work, go back into PrE, and check for 3rd party Effect/Transitions, and remove any. Check for Menu or Chapter Markers, or Menus, and remove those. Same for Themes, or Instant Movies - remove all. Try again.
Now, PrE 9 and CS6 are not really contemporary. PrE 9 came out during the run of CS5 (not CS6), and PrE 10 (changes made in the program) is closer to CS5.5, and perhaps CS6. There could well be just enough difference, as to create problems there, and a PrE 9 PREL just might be far enough back, as to preclude CS6 being able to either Open, or Import it.
    Good luck,

  • After Effects project into Premiere Pro

I am having trouble importing my After Effects  project into Premiere. It isn't playing once I bring it in to my premiere.

What versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro? What operating system? What kinds of source footage?
What exactly are you doing? What menu commands are you choosing, and what things are you clicking, and in what order?
Here is a page that describes ways to move things from After Effects and Premiere Pro and vice versa:
"Working with Premiere Pro and After Effects
There are many ways to move things between these applications, but importing an After Effects project into Premiere Pro is not one of them, so I'm confused by your issue as you've stated it.

  • Opening old Premiere Projects in Premiere Pro CS5

I have some old video projects which I've saved to disk with the idea that I could go back and edit them later.  I just tried to open one of these old projects in Premiere Pro CS5 and it doesn't recognize the old Premiere Pro project.  PP CS5 projects now end with *.prel or *.prproj.  My old projects (some done in Premiere 6, some in PP CS) ended with *.ppj.  I opened the *.ppj file properties and tried changing them from "Opens with Adobe Premiere Pro CS" to "Opens with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5", but it looks like the file suffix remains *.ppj and PP CS5 still doesn't recognize it.
Is there a way I can convert my old PP projects to PP CS5 so they can be opened/edited in my current software?
    Thanks.
    --Dave

    David,
Per my earlier post, if you change that from All Supported Media to All Files, can you Import?
[Edit] I see that All Files did work, and that you are up and editing! That is great news.
As mentioned, the only issue that I had was with a very few 3rd party Transitions, and PrPro was nice enough to tell me exactly where these were used, and what their names were. I just wrote down those TimeCodes, added Cross-Dissolves to replace whatever the previous editor had used, and was up and editing.
Now, I did have to go through the "Where is file ____?" process, as the previous editor had drawn Assest from ALL over an external HDD, with no folder structures, or anything useful - what a kludge! I organized all of the Assets (many thousands) into logical order, and once I had re-established the links, all went beautifully.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - the reason that I asked about platforms is that Pr was X-platofrm, but then with PrPro, through version 2.0, it was PC-only. It was not until CS3, that it went back X-platform. This created a little problem for Mac users, with newer PrPro versions, but older PC Projects. We get about 1 of these issues per year, and the answer is for the Mac user to befriend a PC-person, with the right version of PrPro, do that Import step, then Save_As, and hand off the now, X-platform version of the PRPROJ. Hey, it fosters "hands across the aisle," and we've found several PC-users, with the right versions around here, who have done that conversion, out of the kindness of their hearts. That had zero to do with your Project, but wanted you to know why I asked.

  • Motion 5 Projects In Premiere Pro CC

I recently went from Final Cut Studio to Adobe Creative Cloud and was pleased when I discovered that I could import Motion 4 projects into Premiere Pro CC and they worked just as well in the timeline as they did in Final Cut 7. Unfortunately OSX Mavericks has some performance issues with Motion 4, so I decided to upgrade to Motion 5 as it is only $50 in the app store. Now whenever I import a Motion 5 project into Premiere it imports fine, but when I add it to the timeline it just displays the media missing message in the Program monitor, is says "Media Missing in Motion File Untitled.motn" (Untitled.motn is just the name I gave my test Motion project).
Is there any steps I can take to remedy this? I really liked being able to use Motion for quick graphics, so if I could get Motion 5 projects to wok in Premiere Pro CC that would great! I understand that I could export the Motion 5 project, but this means I need to reexport every time I want to make a change, the convenience of seeing the change take place in real time cannot be understated.
    Motion 5.1
    Premiere Pro 7.2.2
    OSX 10.9.3

I'm in the same boat as you...
Pretty safe to say that Motion 5 is not supported. Time to learn After Effects.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 keeps freezing when loading projects from Premiere Pro CC

    Hi everyone,
I'm reporting this issue in case someone else would have the same problem.
I just downloaded the 2014 version of Premiere Pro CC, and when I'm loading a project from Premiere Pro CC into CC2014 I have the software freezing and being unable to even play the loaded sequences. It seems that dynamic link is having trouble linking the CC and the CC2014 version of Premiere Pro.
Until now the only solution I found was to kill the process of the software and start it again, after 8 times I got my sequence loaded alright, then sometimes it is freezing again, killing process, starting software again, and so on. Does anyone has the same problem ?
I'm running a Windows 7 Ultimate PC with 12Go RAM dedicated only to Premiere Pro.
    Cheers,
    Vincent

    Hi Vincent,
I feel your pain, you are not alone. Here are my machine specs and my very frustrating situation, if anyone has any idea as to how I should move forward, I would really appreciate the input/advice...
    iMac - 27" Late 2013
Processor  3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I'm having similar issues that began when I installed Premiere Pro CC 2014, and actually got worse with the latest update/release. The majority of my projects worked fine at first, but the update last week ended that quickly. I did what I know I never should do and updated Adobe CC while completing a project on a deadline. I thought some of the fixes would help me complete the project sooner. Needless to say, the deadline has passed, my client is pissed enough to not pay me or hire me again and I'm stuck with an almost-there version that I can't export correctly because of this software. This is my problem, not Adobe's, but I didn't expect such a detrimental update to halt my operation.
After doing some research, I found that some plugins could be the cause of some specific editing issues, mainly due to incorrect or inaccessible folders - who knows if its Dynamic Link, CC apps or 2014 apps. I concluded that my issue at the time was a plugin permissions issue on the Adobe "Preference" Folder, so I reset the permissions on the folder so that CC and 2014 apps would be able to access its contents without any problems. This was the wrong decision. For some reason, resetting this folders permissions also effected the main HDD, it's Kernel Text files and their respective permission. I could not boot my machine, just got the Apple and spinning wheel until I had to power down. I ended up on the phone with 3 different AppleCare reps who helped me at least be able to turn the machine back on and access my desktop/files, apps, etc. Outside of this, no one could offer anything other than "Uninstall the problematic application, reboot, reinstall, etc..." or "Backup your files and reimage the HDD." When I mentioned the recent CUDA driver update for my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB now running CUDA Driver Version: 6.0.51), it was like they had never heard of graphics cards being used in their machines.
Resetting permissions on Adobe Preference Folder...
This is what I read would get the CC and 2014 apps communicating correctly so that they could utilize my plugins. There is a problem, I believe, in that their are TOO MANY locations where Adobe folders/components live. There are 3 "Preferences" folders that I found, and I don't know which effects what process, but the folder I changed permissions on clearly effects the operation of all of the CC & 2014 apps I had installed, as well as my HDD. Kernel Extensions and the entire system.
Based on my perceived effects of the Preference folder, I needed to uninstall everything, run the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool, download/install just the 2014 releases and see if that resolved the issue. I'm not downloading CC apps, the 2014 releases should run fine on their own. I've yet to confirm this with Adobe, as what I've read has simply said to install the new release next to the CC apps, rather than on top of, as traditional update releases work. Anyway, one by one, I reinstalled the 14 apps that I use on a regular basis on a "clean" machine with no trace of previous Adobe apps.
After reinstalling (without any plugins), I was at least able to open Premiere Pro from the Application folder and work for a few minutes before both Program and Source monitors froze and had to force quit the app. If I try to open the Project File by double clicking it in the Finder, SpeedGrade opens up instead of Premiere Pro - never seen that before. I also had to force quit to end that process and reopen in Premiere instead of SpeedGrade.
So back to Premiere, if I do have success in opening a project in the right application, Premiere freezes - if not immediately, eventually it will just stop responding. The video clips, sequence segments and UI freeze, but the audio will keep playing until I force quit. When I force quit, Premiere Pro doesn't close entirely. The UI closes, but the process still runs. I've even force quit from Finder, force quit again from the Dock, Shut Down the machine, restarted and Premiere Pro will still be open, but "Not Responding", so I force quit again and open the project. Just now, I opened PP, made minor edits to a sequence, sent it to Media Encoder, exported, but the video I tested exported without audio. I force quite PP twice just before that and it is still running now, but again, it is "not responding".
Ultimately, none of this works, nor have my attempts at resolving these many issues. One thing I know is that there is something VERY WRONG with either the latest release/update to 2014 apps, the Preference folder or the permissions that were changed.
As I mentioned previously, and what I think is a major oversight by someone at Adobe, is that for some reason the permission changes to ONE Adobe folder also effected my entire system and Macintosh HD. Some Kernel Extension files went missing, which is never good and should not happen when resetting folder permissions, so I believe my issues are far greater than the faulty Adobe CC 2014 applications, and is the cause of many of my problems right now. If I can't get things sorted soon, I'm going to reimage my HDD and start from scratch. As much as I would like to avoid this, I really have no choice if I want to get back to work and not lose clients over inexplicable technology issues.
If I find a solution, I will repost, but I think Adobe has to make some serious fixes on this release before anything is resolved entirely. I pay them monthly and rely on their software and platform to work without issue, which is foolish - I know, but I've used CC since it was introduced and it has work well enough until now.
Is there anyone at Adobe that can offer some advice??

  • 'Video Filter Missing' Exporting AE CS4 project into Premiere Pro CS4 project

    Hey guys,
I am new to Premiere and AE, and I just made a short little intro for my current project in After Effects using a couple different effects and such. When I go to export my AE project and make it into a Premiere Project file it will not let me open the project properly, it says:
    D:\Premiere Projects\AFC Title2.prproj
    Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Exposure2
    Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Glo2
Video Filter missing:  AE.CC Particle World
How do I fix this? Can I get the video filters for Premiere so that it recognizes them?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Are you planning on editing the material you're moving from AE to PPro? Not that you can't, but that's sort of a backwards workflow (ie. usually you edit in PPro, and then move the sequence to AE for effects, etc.). Or are you just trying to export from PPro?
Do you have the Production Premium bundle? If so, you could use Dynamic Link to put your AE comp into a PPro timeline, without having to worry about missing filters. You could also render from AE, and then import the rendered movie into PPro.
Finally, you can make (most of) the Cycore effects work in Premiere; this includes Particle World. Simply copy the AEX plugins from the After Effects program folder, into the Premiere Pro program folder (you'll have to dig into a couple of subfolders to find the effects). You'll then have access to most of them in Premiere Pro, though they don't all work the same in the PPro interface. The other two are, I believe, AE-only plugins, and are locked to that program--they won't work in PPro, no matter what.

  • Error Importing Premiere Elements project into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
I am working on a multi-part video project that I started in Premiere Elements 8.  I put in hours upon hours of editing on the first part and I found that the more I edited, the more often the program would crash (infuriating!).  So I started using Premiere Pro CS5 to produce the second part, resolving to come back to the first part later.  Well, I've come back around to needing this first part done, and it is just undoable in Elements (crashes every 20 seconds!).  I'd like to import that project into CS5 if possible.  The help documentation says this should be perfectly possible... but I'm having no luck.
When I attempt to open my Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro, it tells me the project must be converted from Elements .prel to Pro .prproj, and I click through the prompts as normal.  But then as soon as it starts trying to open the project, I get this:
"The Project could not be loaded. It may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 trial to see if it would be less crashy (and it is), but I'd really prefer to have all my video in one program, and CS5 does the best job (and has most of my hours invested).  Elements 9 opens the "damaged" project just fine and I can edit and export normally, so why can't CS5?
Am I stuck recreating the project from the ground up in CS5?

In very general terms, a contemporary PrE Project (PREL), will Open in PrPro, with the steps that you outlined.
Now, there are all sorts of considerations, for aspects that will not likely work:
Instant Movie/Themes, as PrPro cannot read those
Some Effects that PrPro does not have, like the NewBlue FX
Some Transitions that PrPro does not have
Some Title animation Presets, that PrPro does not have
Do you have any of the above in your PrE Project? There are probably other circumstances, but those are all that come immediately to my mind.
The simpler the PrE Project, the greater the likelyhood that it will Convert to a PrPro PRPROJ file.
PrE 8 and PrPro CS5 should be close enough to work, again in those general terms. I can Open simple PrE 4.0 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but cannot Open PrE 7, 8 or 9 Projects in PrPro 2.0.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I find past projects in Premiere Pro?

    Hey Everyone,
I was wanting to make an alteration to a project I finalized last month but since then it has gone off my 'recent project' list once I open premiere. I can't find it in my auto save folder on my PC also. I can only find the rendered files and some peak files. How do I find old projects in Premiere Pro? Thanks in advance, all of you guys are awesome.

  • How to send a project from Premiere Pro to be opened on another computer in FCP7?

The crux is I have this project in Premiere Pro CS5.5 which contains the original MOVs and time adjusted movs that I nested and turned into F4Vs, so it contains movs and f4vs with 1 aiff file and I need to send the work to the director(who has FCP7 and works on a Apple computer) so they can key out the green screen and grade it in FCP7. I prefer no to send 1 big file because there are lots of fast flickering cuts so would take alot of time to go through it pretty much frame for frame. So it would be eaier if they could view it as a project file in FCP7 like I can see it in Adobe Premiere Pro. I haven't done this before as you can tell but someone must of tried doing this before so how is it done?
My project settings in Pro are
    Editing mode: DSLR
    Timebase 25.00 frames/second
    FRame size 1920 x 1080 vertical 16:9
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
    Display Format: 25fps Timecode
    Sample Rate:48000HZ
    Dispaly Format:Audio Samples
    Video Previews
Preview File Format I-Frmae Only Mpeg
    Codec: Mpeg I-Frame
    Width 1920
    Height 1080
Please help I really appreciate any advice, I've tried converting the f4vs into apple pro res but no video converter or media encoder will let me even if i imort the pro res preset.

Duplicate the project with referenced events onto the external hard drive.

  • Huge project in Premiere Pro CC

Hi, I'm currently working on a really big project, with dozens of thousands of raw media files in HD (different formats, too) to be imported into the project, amounting to tens of Tb's in total. Of course, the project will be split in many short sequences, but my worry is: will the number of the files and the the size slow down the process or even cause constant crashes? I am still importing files, and sometimes the program does crash, but I'm not sure what's the problem. The computer is Mac Pro. I did some big projects on it before, but nothing like this one.
Also, is it possible to work with 2 projects in Premiere Pro CC like in FCP? Cheers.

Others can chime in on their experiance's with large projects in Premiere Pro. I know we have lots and lots of folks using Premiere with projects that contains tens of thousands of clips.
Premiere does not allow you to have multiple projects open at the same time but you can use the Media Browser to browse through your project files(.prproj), and access all the bins, sequences, and clips contained in the project. You can also hover-scrub the clips, and import a bin, clip, or sequence.
    Hope this is helpful,
