After iLife 06 Restore the start of any iLife application results in error

Recently I had to restore my iMac using the restore disc. After installation from the DVD I updated all SW using the Software Updater.
After the restore all iLife 06 Application icons where shadowed and overlayed with a symbol. When starting any iLife application it says: "You cannot open the application "iPhoto.app" because it is not supported on this architecture."
I definitely used the original Restore DVD which should contain Intel and PowerPC for the iLife 06 suit anyway.
I followed the instruction written in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301408#3
Anybody an idea?
Regards,
Holger

Thanks for your response! Well, I don't want to clean the cache, I want to understand why everything is so slow on the first start, as this is unusual.
Currently I am running the "extensive SMART test" for my harddrive and while it should take 95 minutes, it runs for more than two hours and is just at 30%, the short test (that said that everything is fine) also was running for more like 20 minutes than 5 as promised, so something seems very wrong to me.
hdparm -t /dev/sda also yields funny results sometimes, I get
Timing cached reads:   13076 MB in  2.00 seconds = 6541.44 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 320 MB in  3.00 seconds = 106.58 MB/sec
(which looks fine to me?) but sometimes buffered disk reads results in just 7 MB/s or less, which is frightening...
Is my HDD dying or can it still be a Kernel problem?

If the problems arose after a restore from a Windows restore point you may need to resort to reinstalling Firefox, as sometimes Windows restores have been known to break Firefox.
Security software including Firewalls is another problem that can slow Firefox or cause it not to work. You need to ensure the security software recognises the current version of Firefox (Again I wonder if a Windows restore may have affected this also.)

Apparently you say there is no problem in Safe Mode, if so try Firefox with Hardware Acceleration off, if that helps then instead of leaving it off look at your graphics drivers.

I had the same problem, and I believe it is caused by having the Creative Cloud application doing the updating of LR.  I "fixed" the problem by:
    1. Uninstall Lightroom
    2. Download the stand-alone LR 5.6 installer from Product updates
    3. Install LR 5.6 using the stand-alone installer, instead of using the Creative Cloud application.

Go into: Settings>General>Accessibility and make sure zoom is turned off. You can double tap with THREE fingers to turn zoom off as well, rather than performing a reset.

  • Most efficient way to write 4 bytes at the start of any file.

Quick question: I want to write 4 bytes at the start of a file without overriding the current bytes in the file. E.g. push bytes 0-4 along... Is my only option writing the bytes into a new file then writing the rest of the file after? RAF is so close but overrides :(.
    Thanks Mel

I revised the code to use a max of 8MB buffers for both the nio and stdio copies...
Looks like NIO is a pretty clear winner... but your milage may vary, lots... you'd need to test this 100's of times, and normalize, to get any "real" metrics... and I for one couldn't be bothered... it's one of those things that's "fast enough"... 7 seconds to copy a 250 MB file to/from the same physical disk is pretty-effin-awesome really, isn't it? ... looks like Vista must be one of those O/S's (mentioned in the API doco) which can channel from a-to-b without going through the VM.
... and BTW, it took the program which produced this file 11,416 millis to write it (from an int-array (i.e. all in memory)).

Loading the latest OS on my Iphone 4 caused the phone to freeze and stop working. I get error message 4013 when trying to restore the phone.

Did you already try these suggestions?
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

  • I am looking to restore the start menu.

I got this laptop and there is no way to shut it down. I pull the plug to shut it down but it has a battery and have to wait 3 hours for it to turn off. I have to pull the battery out to shut down a few times now.
My old laptop had a start menu that I used to shut it down. But now this new one does not have it. How can I restore it?
Or what do I need to different when I setup the system? Did I miss a step in the step to have the start menu.
    Thanks
    Emma

If you tap on your Windows key on your keyboard it will launch the charms bar on the right hand side of your screen.
On that charms bar at the bottom is a cog (marked "Settings"). Click or tap on the cog and then you will see options and one will be to shutdown the computer. It will be labeled "Power". Click or tap on that to see your options to turn off, reboot or restart
    your PC.
BTW: Google is your friend. A search "How to power off Windows 8" has 100 links on how to do this :)

  • Cannot boot into mountain lion after I have set the start volume to CD drive

Previously I need to boot from CD so I have set the start volume to CD drive by pressing command+option+P+R at the same time and change the start up volume to CD drive.
But right now, it can just start from CD but cannot boot into Mac OS (Mountain Lion) which is installed in the hard disk.
I have tried to press command+option+P+R at teh same time during bootup but seems like right now it doesn't recognize this command.  I have tried pressing "X" or "option" or spacebar, etc during bootup but still it tries to boot from CD.
Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?
I have even disassembled my iMac and the CD drive to remove the previous CD as well.  Then it still tries to boot from CD drive but now saying the device is not bootable and ask me to insert a bootup disk.  I then tried to put the Mountain lion installation DVD (I previously created the installation DVD by following the DIY way from this link http://www.cultofmac.com/180925/how-to-make-a-bootable-disk-or-usb-drive-of-os-x -mountain-lion/) there in the drive but it still said the device is not bootable.
I have disassembled my iMac again to remove the mountain lion disk right now.  So the CD drive is now empty.  Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?
This is really frustrating .. Hope someone can help.
    thanks!

  • How can I restore the data from a single application in icloud?

Here is my situation. My iPad2 is constantly crashing. Whenever I use an app it runs for about 30 seconds and then the screen blinks black and I go back to my my home screen. At first I erased all the data and settings and tried to restore my backup from icloud. When I did this, it started crashing again right away. Then I erased all the data and reset it to run as a new ipad. In doing this, I redownloaded all my apps and everything is working fine. However, I have about a years worth of data in NoteShelf (note taking app) that is on icloud but that I cannot access. How can I just restore the data from that one app?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately you cannot selectively restore from a backup, it's either all or nothing.

  • HT4927 What if I can't restore the backup iPhoto library because I get an error message that there's not enough free space?

After iPhoto crashed, it automatically tried to rebuild and ten repair itself. iPhoto opens and all my albums are there, but no thumbnails. I've tried rebuilding the thumbnails twice, to no avail. So I tried restoring from backup (Time Machine) to the last version before the crash, but I can't because it says there's no enough free space to do so. What else is there left to try?

That is the file I tried to restore, /Pictures/iPhoto Library (I only have one library package). In Time Machine, I had choose "Restore to" and then manually select the Pictures folder again, not sure if that makes a difference. According to the finder, the package is 396gb in size, far more than the free space I have on the boot drive or backup drive. Time Machine seems kind of useless in this case, unless I go out and buy a new external drive just to restore the backup library file. But rebuilding hasn't worked yet.
