After install, iTunes does not open at all.

I installed Mavericks on my 2011 Macbook Pro the other day. Everything went well and everything seems to be working normally except iTunes.
When I click on it in the dock, the icon bounces a few times, or just once, but then nothing else happens. It never opens. Same thing when I click on it directly from the applications folder.
Any ideas?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

    Hi Arjun sache,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an issue with iTunes shutting down unexpectedly when your iPhone is connected to the Mac. Take a look at the article below, it provides a lot of great troubleshooting tips that may be able to resolve the issue for you.

  • Itunes does not open at all

When I click on the desktop icon for my itunes, it does not open. Instead a window opens that says, +The itunes application could not be opened. The required folder could not be found.+ My folder was not deleted. It is still on my computer. I can acess it, in my user account. But I can't open itunes anymore.

Hi b noir, thanks for your reply. I did initially look at the itunes trouble shooting page and I tried to follow what they said to do for user specific trouble shooting. But I have no idea where to find this: ■C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    ■C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
So I can't do it if I can't find it on my machine. I'm assuming 'C' means disk C? and I found 'users' when I right clicked 'Explore'. Then I found my user name and opened it. Then I was lost because I cannot find AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes or AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes. So I was unable to go any farther. That's when I posted my problem here. Can you or anyone else help me farther? Unfortunately I need something more specific, then what itunes trouble shooting is prepared to give. I forgot to add that my pc is shared and my kids' itunes open just fine. So this is definitely a user specific problem! Is it possible that something I downloaded the other day, corrupted the library? I deleted the offending song, and re-started, but itunes still didn't open. Not that I expected it to work that easily but it was worth a try.

My itunes will not open at all - I repeatedly get the message"itunes library is corrupted...not installed correctly...please reinstall itunes" I have tried opening all my itunes folders but nothing will even open.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

I did not use my computer yesterday, and now all of a sudden, Firework does not open at all after clicking on its icon or starting as a program. I did not download any upgrades or anything else, and I have Norton 360 version 3. I can open Internet Explorer, but that's not my default browser, so I have no problem with the Internet connection.
What could be the problem, how can I restore my browser without losing my bookmarks, settings, etc?

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see [[Safe Mode]]. Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. • Itunes will not open at all

    hey guys,
ever since I've reinstalled my pc with windows xp pro sp3, my itunes will not open at all.
every time i click on itunes.exe it does not do anything. It does give me the hourglass icon as if my pc is working on it. but then it disappears without any itunes response.
to fix this issue, I have tried any possible method that i could find on the internet. even called the support center but they were not able to help me either.
I have tried to reinstall itunes *(no effect)*
did something with the cryptographic something in the administrative tools menu *(no effect)*
I have deleted the itunes installer cache *(no effect)*
I installed any older versions,( btw 7 does not work either)but after updating it *(no effect)*
itunes 6 does work; but since i have an iphone it is completely useless for me. so *(no effect)*
the strange thing is that itunes.exe does appear in the "processes" tab in task manager, but it does not show in the "applications" tab.
and every time I shut down my pc, I get the windows message that itunes is shutting down.
If you have any other suggestions, please be so kind help me.
this is driving me nuts. It's been going on for two months now.
    Kind regards,
    Bart

I am not sure if I have this right from all those posts.
When you try to start iTunes, there is no error message and you can see iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab of the task manager.
If that is your probelm it is commonly do to a problem with cryptographic services.
Before looking into that there is a quick thing to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
If that's not it, work carefully through *method 4* in the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, this is important. post back the names of any dlls mentioned in error messages.
If you don't get any error messages try starting iTunes.

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!

Started a Itunes software update this morning which didn't work.  Now Itunes will not open at all.  I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."

There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes.  You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update.  I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.

  • Ever since updating to OS 10.10.3, my iTunes does not open anymore!

Ever since I updated to 10.10.3, my iTunes does not open anymore.
I have restarted my computer, and tried to open it again but it did nothing. I installed iTunes again and also did not help. Opening iTunes from the application folder in Finder did nothing, as well as opening it from the launchpad did not help.
The app does not even bounce up and down in the dock, it just does nothing.
I think I have tried almost all basic methods. Is there anything else I can do?!
    Please help!

    Thanks in advance

Same bro, same. Ever get it fixed?

  • When I connect my iphone to my iMac, iTunes does not open automatically

When I connect my iphone to my iMac, iTunes does not open automatically, even though I have the "open iTunes when this phone is connected" option checked. I'm on the latest Snow Leopard with iTunes 10.4 and use an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.4.  I think the problem began with the latest iTunes update.

Found the answer in another discussion! Here's what worked:
"I also had the same problem, iTunes 10.4 wouldn't launch when connecting iPhone 3GS.
I unchecked "Launch iTunes when this iPhone is connected", restarted, launched iTunes and connected iPhone, rechecked "Launch iTunes when this iPhone is connected".  I was asked if I wanted to install iTunes helper and said yes.  All works again."

What is the name of the iTunes preference file that I can put in the trash to try to get this to work correctly?

  • ITunes does not open when ipod connected

Since installing the 1.1 update, iTunes does not open when I connect my nano to the computer. Both computer and iTunes (when I manually open it) recognize the nano, so no big deal. Just wondering how to make iTunes automatically open.

Sometimes the Preferences get corrupt - if you set them off and then back on that sometimes clears the problem.
