After installation - can we go back to OS 10.5

I installed Snow Leopard but having some problems downloading .dmg file (they wont download - i posted a question related to this here *http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2160860&stqc=true* . I'm thinking of reinstalling the OS 10.5 that it originally came with - is this advisable or should i do an erase and install with the Snow Leopard (will this mean I'll have to reinstall the other applications)? Thanks for the help!

You can do an erase and install of Leopard 10.5 but make sure and back up all important data first.
Try the erase and install with the machine specific disk that came with your Mac. When you are finished and back online, see if you can successfully download a .dmg file. If you can, you
might want to hold off upgrading back to SL for a bit. But before you do that...

That link is for 10.5 but the help will work in 10.6.
If after you try maintenance, you still cannot download a .dmg file... do the Erase and Install.
Just insert disk #1 that came with your Mac and follow the instructions.

I recently updated from Firefox 3.6.3 to 3.6.8. I skipped previous updates because of similar problem I'm experiencing now however now it is worse. Immediately after installation, messages windows pop up. The FIRST window says: “Firefox has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
The SECOND window (with a red circle surround a white ‘X’) says: “firefox.exe – Unable to Locate Component. This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
The THIRD window is called the “Mozilla Crash Reporter. We’re Sorry. Firefox has a problem and crashed…” where it gives me the option of submitting a report and restarting (which I have done).
The problem happened during previous attempted updates which is why I tend to avoid Firefox updates until today. However, in the past all I would do is manually power off the computer and restart the computer. Firefox never completed the installation so I was able to use the older version of Firefox.
Now I cannot do that because Firefox is updated to 3.6.8 which refuses to open. How can this problem get fixed? I am not “tech savvy” but loyal to Firefox (and for now I have no access to all my bookmarks).

In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

After archive and install, can you go back to old system?

After some trouble with permissions, I decided to do a clean archive and install from 10.2.8. Too late I realized that the install would be 10.2.
The permission trouble did not go away, and now I have additional trouble with upgrading everything, the combo upgrade to 10.2.8 does not work, error messages etc.
Is there a way I can undo this and use my old system 10.2.8 again which is saved in a folder?

As ali brown has already pointed out your iMac does, indeed, have 2 Firewire ports. Depending on which optical drive you have (the computer shipped with CD-RW, DVD/CD-RW, or SuperDrive) you can install Tiger directly.
Since you have an older version of Jaguar, and since it does not seem to be very co-operative, I suggest that you seriously consider upgrading to Panther or Tiger. To install Panther your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Panther. You will need to purchase the Full Retail version of Panther.

Understandable, but it also says "Intel"...... actually, as far as I remember, iWork came about when Mac went Intel replacing Appleworks which is PowerPC only.
Now, back to the actual problem.....
I've never had the trial versions, so i can't address that problem specifically. I have always used the retail versions (DVD in a box). But, I am guessing that there was a problem because you had the trial version installed and then tried to install from the DVD again. You see, the trial version is a full version except it will only act like a full version if you enter a registration code. The new version (09) does not require a code.
If you cannot delete the applications, then reinstalling the OS from scratch is the next best idea. That means erasing your hard drive which is why tech support said you need to make a backup first so you don't lose your files. It also means you must have your install disk. After that, if those trial versions still show up, I would delete them BEFORE opening them (right after the new install) and then try to install from the DVD again.

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

How do I get from 10.6, which I had to purchase on a disc due to the fricking new IOS on my phone, to 10.6.8.
I downloaded what I thought was 10.6.8 update, and it said "you need to have 10.6.7". This is infuriating.

How can I return back to OSx after installing Lion?

I'm disappointed. After installing Lion, everything is slower. The best thing I had last year was my new MacBook Pro, because everything was fast.. (sleep, opening programs, multitasking...etc) Now, everything takes forever. How can I return back to OSx?

Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

Double clicking on the box will open the image in a separate window. It's very slow and tedious for multiple images. How can I go back to attached and displayed images? If I click on "Forward", the images appear instantly in the email to be forwarded.

My problem seemed to fix itself. Or, by shutting down the computer one night, instead of putting it to sleep, may have reset something. Since updating to Mavericks, I always (or usually) let the computer sleep overnight or anytime I'm walking away from it. A few days ago, I was updating notes for my kids about how to find all my stuff and how to turn on my computer, so I wanted to rewrite the start-up procedures for the iMac, just in case they ever need to. Well, I shut it down one night so the following morning, I could write down each step. Lo and behold, the images, etc. are all there again! Solved, but I'm not sure why.

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)

Reboot your iPad: Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME for up to 30 seconds, until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart. You won't lose any data settings. When your iPad restarts see if you can access iTunes.

That is definitely odd, grantcool. Let's help restore this important data transfer feature. To confirm, when you connect the USB cable to your phone and computer > Pull down the Notification Bar > Select USB Connected > Can you choose Media Sync (MTP) ?
