After installation of Solaris 10  - CDE login doesn't start

I have installed Solaris 10 on Sparc Machine but the CDE login doesn't start .
I received the message :
Suspendind Desktop Login...
If currently logged out, press [enter] for a console login promt.
desktop Login will resume shortly after you exit console session.
In the file /var/dt/Xerrors I have :
fbconsole: ioctl SRIOCSREDIR: Device busy
ioctl(MSIOSRESOLUTION): Invalid argument
ddxSUNWmouse: couldn't set absolute mouse scaling resolution on /dev/mouse
Tue Sep 12 11:54:15 2006
error (pid 2490): Can not lock pid file /var/dt/Xpid, another Dtlogin is running (pid 873)
I set the resolution of monitor for one supported :
fbconfig -res 1280x1024x60
But always I obtain the same thing,
Can someone help me ?
May thanks in advance,
Luz

I don't know if it helps. But I had problems with the x-server not starting (didn't even get a gui login just command line) re-setting the network properties seemed to fix it, looks like anything dodgy in the network config stuffs up the start up proceedure.

Perhaps your hardware / graphics adapter is not supported by Solaris 10.
Take a look at the Solaris Hardware Compatibility List:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
Now, no need to download any bootable ISO image. Just run this Device Detect tool:

  • How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10

How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10
    Hi Java Specialist,
I am trying to setup a network interface with the following steps on a new fresh Solaris 10 installation using the instruction titled How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10 3/05 ONLY from http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/816-4554/esxhb/index.html:
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb up
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment prior to installing Solaris
    10 on top of it.
    3. # Added saturn to /etc/hostname.lo0.
    4. # Added 10.56.8.101 to /etc/inet/hosts
    5. # Added 10.56.0.0     255.255.240.0 to /etc/inet/netmasks
    6.# reboot
However, the following errors kept recurring:
svcs –xv …. unable to qualify my own domain name,
    failed with exit status 69.
Any idea on what other steps have I missed? I was hoping to only do step 3 – 6 for the change to apply permanently.
    Many thanks,
    Jack

Hi Java Specialist,... in a Solaris forum?
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb upThe loopback connection (your lo0)is NOT a physical interface. There are no hardware components for it. Nor can I think of any reason why it should ever be anything other than the default 127.0.0.1
Use your favorite Internet search site (such as Google, Bing, Yahoo) to learn more about it.
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment ...I have no idea how a nonexistent software construct gets a DHCP address in a MS Operating System, unless you are confusing this with the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" which is an utterly different concept. Again, go see what Google tells you.
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
... completely unrelated to configuring an IP...
unable to qualify my own domain nameAgain, search the Internet or even search these forums with that string of words.
Go back through your two most recent posts and read the responses again.
They seem to both be on the same topic as this new one -- configuring an IP on something.
How to initialize new IP address on secondary interface permanently
How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10
When you've done all that, then come back and tell us what you are actually trying to do.

  • After installation, when I try to login, I get the message "No such domain" error. Help?

OS : solaris 2.7 with kernel patch 106541-17
    Iplanet portal server Version 3
All the recommended patches are installed and the iplanet portal server installation was successful and when I try to go into the login console through the port 8080/login/wtadmin , after giving the user name (root) and password , I end up getting the error message "no such domain" message.

What is the hostname, domain name and sub domain name you gave during the install ?
second how are you trying to reach the portal, try to reach it using fqdn instead of just the hostname ..

  • How do I install additional locals after installation of Solaris 10?

    Hi,
I installed Solaris 10 withouth choosing to add Norwegian locale. I really don`t care for Norwegian messages, but it seems that X will not let me choose norwegian keyboard layout if I don`t install the Norwegian locale. My question is: How do I install the Norwegian locale after initial installation?
    locale -a gives me:
    C
    POSIX
    iso_8859_1
    And I guess I need no_NO.

If you are using a graphics terminal you may want to try using the "prodreg" utility, as root?, to add en_US support. It appears to involve numerous packages, at least for 64 bit support.
    Good luck,
    John

  • DL380 G6 timeouts during boot after installation of solaris 5/09

Timeouts during boot is mentioned in the release notes. I can use workaround 4. But workaround 5 does not work.
Has anyone else seen this? The problem only applies when the DL380 G6 is running ufs root filesystem. It works fine using zfs root filesystem.

    Hi.
Check that disk was detected at BIOS.
In case disk not detected - it's hardware problem. Check and reinstall REM.
In case disk was detected - it's look like problem with dirver.

The first 3 of the above programs starts in german and works fine. Only Photoshop will not start and show the following english error:
    "Adobe Photoshop CS4

Unfortunately, there is no information about WHICH components are missing and WHERE is this "Application directory" where I could double-check this missing files.
Could anyone help me to find this missing components?
Is there a Logfile where I can check them?
Can I look for information about installation-errors?
(I know, we have a file called "Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection 4.0 dd-mm-yyyy.log".)
But I need some help to find the missing components. Some lines that could describe the problem are this:

Do you have any idea what could generate my problem if the file exist on the media, can be read but the installer tell me the exact opposite?
What could I try to solve this problem?
Do I have any chance to install the language pack separatly? (It seems, that Photoshop CS4 itself has been installed, at least a so called directory exists and many *.DLL and the photoshop.exe can be found)

    Regards, Yavor

I think I've missed some of the details in my first post.
    The situation is as follows:
The client I want to install and the boot server are located physically and logically remote from our office in a data center and they are in separate network (10.145.1.x). The install server which holds the Solaris 10 install DVD is in my office (10.50.1x) and is not in the same network as the client and the boot server.
I think in so many servers and services required for this network installation I've made something wrong, but don't know exactly what.
When I run ./add_install_client on the boot server it says:
    # ./add_install_client -s installserver:/u02/solaris_10_sparc host1 sun4u
cleaning up preexisting install client "host1"
    removing ecb1 from bootparams
removing /etc/bootparams, since it is empty
    removing /tftpboot/inetboot.SUN4U.Solaris_10-1
    removing /tftpboot
    disabling tftp in /etc/inetd.conf
    making /tftpboot
    enabling tftp in /etc/inetd.conf
    updating /etc/bootparams
copying boot file to /tftpboot/inetboot.SUN4U.Solaris_10-1My /etc/hosts and /etc/ethers are these:
    # cat /etc/hosts
    # Internet host table
    10.145.1.11     host1
    # cat /etc/ethers
    00:03:ba:db:c5:8b host1
0:14:4f:0:f3:89 host1Also on my boot server there is a rarpd process started:
    # ps -ef | grep rarp
        root  6816     1  0   Sep 15 ?        0:00 /usr/sbin/in.rarpd -a
root 20086  8769  0 10:33:24 pts/1    0:00 grep rarpAny ideas or any additional info needed?

  • First installation of Opensuse-exchange... doesn't start!

    Hello to all.
I'm a very linux noob.. sorry, but I'm also very bored of Winzoz!
I need you help to solve my opensuse-exchange installation problem.
I have a laptop installed with SLED 11.4, kernel 2.6.37.1-1.2; with yast I installed opensuse-exchange from opensuse.org. During this it adveses me about some conflict an software dependencies that I ignored.
Finished the installation, I tried to access to "Email Settings", but nothing happened.
I though about wrong installation or a SO damage caused by me, because it doesn't even start Evolution Client.
How can I restore deleted dependencies and where is it saved the yast log file?
    Many thank to all.

I´m doing NAT with usb ethernet and the ethernet port from a mac mini server, everything was ok until i updated to 10.6.7 any ideas? been looking around for some solutions but none has worked.

    Hi,
Try to stop NAT, than start Setup Gateway Assistant again, may be help.
Note: you should be sure your firewall is in correct setup. My NAT some time stop and can not start again because of my firewall "open" much ports than nessesary.

  • After installation of 10.2.2 iTunes does not start up anymore

I updated my system to 10.2.2. today. Now itunes does not start anymore. I receive an Error Message saying "iTunes was was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes Error 7 (Windows Error 998))" I reinstalled iTunes - same effect. Even a complete reinstallation of the entire .NET Framework 2, 3.5 and 4 did not help. Could anyone help please. Honestly spoken I am quite upset since I do not have access to my library anymore.....
    Thanks
    Holger

If it isn't the .NET thing, and you aren't getting an additional message mentioning a specific filename, then it's probably damage to one of the software components installed with iTunes, Holger.
Usually it's a damaged Apple Application Support, but I've seen it produced by a damaged QuickTime in some contexts too. So it might be best to do a complete reinstall of iTunes as per the instructions in the following documents.
If you've got a Windows XP system, see:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
If you've got a Windows Vista or 7 system, see:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Does that fix the error for you?

  • Solaris 11 - after installation there is no remote desktop avaliable

    Hi All,
I have the problem that after installation of Solaris Express on SPARC machine there is no available remote desktop. I am using Xmanager to connect to my server.
It works fine with Solaris 9 and 10.

  • SAP widget foundation doesn't start after installation

    Experts,
I'm trying to run the SAP Widget Foundation application as a stand-alone.
I have installed the application using SAPWidgetFoundation.jar found through the following link (download package):
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/widget-foundation#section2
After installation or when clicking the appliication in the start menu, it should start and display a tray icon. No tray icon is displayed and I don't think it's even running at all.
I am running Java Version 1.6.0_13, Windows XP Pro SP3, Yahoo Widgets 4.5.2
The following lines are saved to the log when attempting to start the Widget Foundation.
    10:14:44 [ INFO][main](ApplicationStarter:90) - [Nr:1][94][since:109(1242720883921)]msec: Check single instance
    10:14:44 [ INFO][main](ApplicationStarter:69) - [Nr:2][0][since:109(0)]msec: Check Java Version
    10:14:44 [ INFO][main](ApplicationStarter:97) - [Nr:3][0][since:109(0)]msec: Create Server Manager
    10:14:44 [ INFO][main](SysTrayUI:283) - [Nr:6][0][since:109(0)]msec: Initialize Tray Menu Proxy
Does anyone have an idea what I may be missing here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Olivier

    Hi Olivier,
When you tried to install SAP Widget Foundation as standalone application following SAP Widget Foundation User's Guide - [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20e64a36-6f34-2a10-0bbb-aeac6101b93c], did you get the installation result saying "SAP Widget Foundation installed successfully"?
If you got the success message, then try this:
Actually when you go to Start Menu -> Programs->SAP Widget Foundation and click there, a Batch file starts to run, which inturn displays the icon on the tray.
What you could do is, Go to the location where you have installed the SAP Widget Foundation, usually C:ProgramFilesSAP Widget Foundaiton and double click on the "run.bat" file. This may work.
If you did not get the success message, then there would have been some problem during installation, you could uninstall and re install it again.
Let me know if this works.
    Regards,
    Shilpa B.V

  • Integration Builder doesn't start after SP11

    Hi,
I am installing a new XI 3.0 SP1 system on Linux (SLES8). After installation, everything worked fine, I patched the system to stack 11. After this patch, the Integration Builder Configuration doesn't start anymore, the Java Web Start error message being 'JAR resources in JNLP file are not signed by same certificate'. The option 'Re-initialization and force-signing' in Java Web Start Administration has no effect.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jos

    Hi Jos,
I had exactly the same problem. After discovering that 'Cummulative patch for XI TOOLS 3.0 SP11' miraculously disappeared from download area in SAP Marketplace I decided to undeploy whatever was possible from this patch (com.sap.aii.security.ws.proxy, com.sap.xi.directory, com.sap.xi.ibresources, com.sap.xi.repository, com.sap.xi.rwb and com.sap.services) and deploy 'Support Package 11 for XI TOOLS'.
Both Integration Builder links (Repository and Directory) are working again.
Another question is valid now: How to fix whatever Note 825655 supposed to (Patch 1 for SP11 XI3.0 contained fix described in this note)? I'm hoping that SAP Support could solve this problem soon.
    Best regards,
    Marek

    After upgrade, postfix-3.0.0-3 doesn't start.

    Yes, the file is missing.
    Anyone else with this issue?
    I filed a bug report:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44360
    Downgrading helps.

I am getting the same thing, seems the update moved /usr/lib/postfix/postfix-script to usr/lib/postfix/bin/postfix-script
Downgrading fixes it, but its not a "fix"
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44354 is the bug report but its closed, "works for me" is the reason.
As the comment states we need to update our config files.
Since there is a new config file, makes sense, and as usual for me I requested repoen like an idiot. Sigh.
update your main.cf in /etc/postfix/ there will be a pacnew.
What you want to do is change daemon_directory from usr/lib/postfix to usr/lib/postfix/bin this will fix it.
