After installing 10.0.9 event library just hangs

I recently upgrade to FCP X 10.0.9 and now when I launch FCP it just hangs, even after hours. none of the old images are visible

You could try the various trouble shooting steps listed here.

How did you "move everything" over?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

Installed ITunes 8 - entire music library lost - hangs if I try to add fold

I just installed iTunes 8 after having been prompted to do so.
When I first opened it the app started to render my album covers, and then stopped.
I was curious about the genius feature, so I enabled that, and it said it was active, but then nothing showed in my music library at all -- no covers, not a single track.
I tried re-adding the folder where I store my music, I get a processing message, but then it just hangs.
I ended the task, tried adding a single song -- that song added successfully, so I added one more -- also OK, and they could play. So I tried adding the whole folder again - hangs.
End task again.
Re-open - the songs I added manually aren't there anymore. Every time I add a song, it shows temporarily, then when I exit and go back in the whole list is erased again.
At the file system level the folder where it stores all the info about music is COMPLETELY EMPTY: \\server\users\myusername\my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music\
That folder used to have hundreds of folders and files? What the heck happened? Where are my files?
Is this a bug or just some weird issue on the x64 version of Vista that happens when you have my documents folder re-direction turned on? This wasn't a problem with v7.x

Copying the old iTunes Library (from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder) didn't work for me. iTunes went through its typical "Updating iTunes Library" routine the next time I launched, and any attempt to add a folder of files to my library still returns Error 13014.

After install 10.5.7 update QMaster/Compressor hangs/not responding??

I find it funny that the 10.5.7 update was supposed to "improve OS stability". Well it looks like all it has done is made my Mac a worthless pile of pooh.
I have an older MacPro (2007) with two dual core processors (4 CPUs). I setup QMaster as QuickCluster with services (this is the only way Compressor will see it when I submit a batch). I selected 2 CPU instances. Hit "Submit" in Compressor and open the batch window, I see it "try" to parse out the video segments to 2 CPU instances, but get Audio successful and Video "Unknown" with a Service controller "error" and a progress bar for the main batch at 50% with time duration increasing (never decreases).
So I bring up Activity Monitor and find that coreaudio is "not responding" compressor is "not responding" and final cut pro is "not responding" ... oh joy!!
All this "used" to work before the 10.5.7 update, so what gives???
How to reproduce on my hardware:
1. Open FCP
2. Create a Sequence
3. Send Sequence to Compressor
4. In Compress I have a predefined H.264 setting and destination with "Job segmenting" checked, hit submit
5. Open batch window, look at 50% mark with errors mentioned above

I had FCP to Compressor using QMaster (2 CPU instances) working in 10.5.6. It created some bizarre project name under FCP (i.e. 13DAA64E-8A34-4476-A12B-86) but would work. With 10.5.7 the same steps just hang/fail -- fail as in they Submitted batch never completes (I can leave it for 10 hours on a H.264 small duration clip of 30 seconds).
So now (with 10.5.7) the only way I can get Compressor and Qmaster to work is if I export sequence to QuickTime movie, close FCP, open Compressor create a new batch using the exported QT movie, set my settings/destination then submit. Which defeats the purpose of using a 2 Instance QMaster in the first place since I've had to introduce a Export to Quicktime in FCP. So essentially any benefit using 2 CPUs has been negated by the extra export step.
Sorry for the frustration/tone, but if I wanted this much hassle with Mac software/OS, I would have just stayed exclusively on a Windows based platform -- as of right now I see very little difference between the two companies, both are not responsive to correct obvious problems and both create more work than solutions. I gotta wonder why I even selected to use a Mac and why I successfully converted at 11 friends over from Windows to Mac - SSDD.

After install, won't upgrade photo library

I have just installed ilife 06, changing iphoto from 04 to 06 and I am unable to upgrade my photo library. Here is the message: "Unable to upgrade. Current User does not have access". I have gotten info in iphoto and confirmed I am the user, I have repaired the permissions in disk utility, and I have gone thru the steps to unlock via the Terminal. Nothing worked. Any ideas? Pleae help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That has happened to others and the following has been able to fix it for some: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Give it a go and see if it will help you also.

After installing last version, my whole library disappeared (list, music, movies, ...). I search on my MacPro, no luck! Even there, everything disappeared

Firefox will be working perfectly, but after a period of time, and sometimes after a period of inactivity, the browser just hangs.

Mouse clicks to hyperlinks instigate an error noise, and to recover your internet session, all you can do is re-start the PC - but also re-setting the router seems to clear the problem.
Its not the individual PC, as my netbook which i connect through the same router, has the same problem - nor is it the wireless connections, as when the devices are physically connected, it still occurs!
I have tried upgrading to mozilla v4 beta, no change, and i now taken a retrogade step and gone back to 3.6.13 - no change.

After installing Sun Studio 11, libfsu.a in Sun Forte 6 is removed.

I have Sun compilers 5.0 and 6.2 on my Sun Solaris 8 Ultra Sparc machine. After installing Sun Studio 11, some library files (e.g., libfsu.a in Sun Forte 6) from the old compilers were removed. What is wrong with my installation?
Note that I install the different versions of compilers in separate directories.

did you making sure that Sun studio 11 is not exist
on your system before re-install Sun studio 11? The
rule is you can have different Sun studio releases
on the same system, but you can not have the
multiple copy of the same release on the same
system, even though they are in a totally separate
directory. If Sun Studio 11 exist after 1st fail
installation, you need to un-install it first before
you re-start 2nd installation attemp.
Installation of Sun Studio 11 should not remove files
from older releases, but we know the case it did mess
up package of the older release before.
-NgocNo, after 1st install failed due to insufficient disk space, I did not uninstall Studio 11. After I deleted some user files to free up disk space, I run the install again, specified the same directory for installation, and just select Sun Performance Libraries. The installation seems to finished successfully. Perhaps this is one scenario where old versions can get messed up.

After installing Mavericks I started to receive my email over and over again.

(Mail on Mac) I am experiencing a disturbing problem I can't find a previous mention of. Hopefully there's someone who has already been able to solve this.
My email is, on my wish, (Webmail UPC) not removed from my providers server after download, this for security reasons. I suppose after installing Mavericks the following event repeats itself again and again. What happens is that the email messages received are first seen in their correct alias(account) under/in the Incoming box. Next the same messages (after a period of time or/and after one or more times restarting Mail, this is unclear) are received again within an alias of that account, however the re-received message can be delivered in another alias(account) for example, an emailaccounts given alias, lets say, alias 1a receives a message again... while the original message was addressed to that emailaccounts alias 1b or 1c etc. But alias 1a also gets the message sooner or later. Thus I keep receiving the same messages over and over again in time. Does anyone recognize this problem and even better is there a solution. Thanks.

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Or...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Event library selection

Hi all, How do you select part of a clip in the Event Library before importing to a project?
In FCP 7 you set keyframes. In iMovie you merely range select. In FCP X neither seem to work or am I missing something? I know i can'just roll in the parts I do not need within the project. But I would prefer only to import on to the stage what I need +/- a couple of seconds.

Thank you very much for your help! I tried a range selection a few times before asking and it did not work? I am using a trial version this month. Sometimes it stalls and that must have been the case.

I wonder if you could find the time to another problem I have expreienced? I am testing FCP X before likely buying it when my trial period expires.
I have completed a minor test project without major problems. Initially I imported a event library plus a project fra iMovie.
Once finished in FCP X I tried to delete the imported event library in FCP X and re-import it. Beforehand I changed some events differnt from those used for the project. I wanted o see if FCP X would re-connect the media, when I chose Modify Event References after re-importing the iMovie event library.
The result was that the project failed to:
- recognize iPhone movies,
- No sound on itunes songs allthough they are still there with keypoint atached but red labbeld but without sound???
- recognize various photography stills
85% of the project is still valid but I have no idea if the remaining items could be saved somehow, or if you may never change you event library. I thought the project render files covered the projekt once rendered and finished...
I am trying to understand if you may never change you event library? Could I perhaps (dit not) have saved the project as a compund clip to avoid this situation? I have experienced that compound clips have re-arranged music files slightly before, so O chose not to...
As you can tell I am merely trying to understand what to do and what not to do...

Can't install Flash? Just hangs...

I just received a copy of Flash CS4, and like with the trial version, I can't get it to install. It gets to the part where the message reads, "Preparing to Install..." and then just hangs.
I have Adobe Captivate already installed on my computer, but that's all I can think of.
Any advice is appreciated.

I had a similar problem that occurred when installing Flash CS4. I had previously installed the rest of the CS4 applicaitons with no problem. When I went back to install flash, it errored out. After that, I couldn't get past the "Checking System Profile". It would just freeze at 90%.
I ended up spending 4 hours on the phoen with Adobe support, but got it fixed. Not quite sure which solution actually worked as we did a couple of them in a row and then tested it.

It says the second document cannot be opened and to move one of these documents out of your Final Cut Events folder. It also says to avoid this problem, copy events from within Final Cut Pro, but that is what I did in the first place. What should I do to avoid the double opening conflict?

Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty. I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion.
I was working on a project, when all of a sudden the event library went blank. There are no devices showing in the left column, only "last import" and "aperture videos". There are no video clips in the editing window. I have "Show: All Clips" selected. I've tried "group events by disk".
When I have a Project open, it plays just fine. There are no yellow triangles saying "source clip is missing". Yet, again...nothing is in the event library large editing window. So, it seems the data is still there, but invisible. This is true with all the projects, and all the external devices I've experimented by plugging in to see if their video clips show up in the event library.
I have tried to import new movies, and iMovie responds as normal...looking like it's importing, then "generating thumbnails", then it makes the "ding" signalling that the import is complete...but nothing shows in the event library. I've tried importing movies from the harddrive, from quicktime, and from an external drive.
I have searched the forums, and found many users with a similar, but not the same, problem. For them, it seems the "go to users-library-preferences and delete iMovie plist" has solved their problem. This didn't work for me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled iMovie, I even have re-installed Mountain Lion (from a last-ditch effort suggestion from Apple technician).
HERE'S AN INTERESTING DETAIL: After almost 5 hours on the phone with Apple, I decided to cut my losses and take my project to another Mac I have. I'm working on a project, for work, that is critical that it's completed by tonight (whoops), and all my video is on an external drive. So, I plug in the external drive to Mac #2, open iMovie, and everything is looking fine. I continue importing some files I was converting, through Wondershare, and suddenly (whether or not this has to do with the importing, I'm not sure), the SAME THING happened to Mac #2!!!! I can't believe this.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Have you ever heard of this happening? Could it have to do with the files I'm importing???

Mac #1 is a 27" desktop, mid-2012, software up-to-date. Mac #2 is a 24" desktop, about 4 years old, OSX 10.7.5

I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible. When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip. ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.
