After installing Firefox 3.6.10. My browser is not displaying PDF files. I am using Foxit Reader 4.02

I reinstall my windows XP recently. I install Firefox 3.6.10 and Foxit Reader 4.02. But, now PDF files cannot be displayed within the browser. Earlier i used the same combination and it was working fine.

Hello,
i think firefox does not have a native pdf reader.
But some plugins allow you to view these documents. For instance, Adobe created one, you can find it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/browse/type:7
(the first one..)

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Does anyone know why after upgrading to Mavericks, Safari will not display PDF files, is there a solution?

I cannot get Safari to display PDF files, it shows a blank screen with the comment that Safri has blocked PDF, however when you unblock it still does not show the PDF, I have had to rely on Firefox for this, which I find not too good. Any help very much appreciated.

    Best.

  • After install, Firefox sets itself as default to open all kinds of files. How do I prevent this. I don't want it as default for anything except browser.

For example, after install of most recent version 32.0.1 Firefox logo was attached to all my pdf files. I only want to firefox as a browser, not to open videos, pics or pdf's. I went to default program option in start menu but there are so many file types I don't know what should be opening. I simply deleted firefox and everything went back to normal.

Note that this would possibly only happen when Firefox is set as the default browser and only should happen if there isn't another application set to handle these file type.
Firefox inspects some registry keys to check that and if a program is registered via other registry keys then Firefox may think that there isn't a program to handle these content types.
You can use the registry editor to check some keys.
    *Registry Editor:<br>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.pdf\<br>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf
Remove the FirefoxHTML value of the Default key and leave an empty value of that key.
That should allow you to set another application as the default to handle PDF files via the open with dialog.

  • I can't install Firefox. Get a message saying "can not open output file" Firefox version 3.6.6

Firefox stopped working after updating. I uninstalled it and downloaded latest version 3.6.6. Before that 3.6.3.

Everything else works fine, except for Firefox...

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
If you keep having problems then disable your security software (anti-virus) during the download and installation of Firefox.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Firefox 3.6.17 on Ubuntu linux not opeing pdf files consistanly

I run a test server(Ubuntu 10.4 ) with Firefox 3.6.17. I have written several php pages that allow customer to click buttons that pull up pdf files for this or that. If I click on a button, the pdf will usually open once or twice, but after that, I need to shut down fire fox and reopen it in order to get it to pull up the pdf again. I have Adobe reader 9.4 installed and the 9.4 plugin is also install and enabled. This has never been a problem in the past. I have the same code running on my production servers and FF for windows does not have any issues. Chrome has no trouble either

    Update to a supported OS
This is not an Ubuntu Support forum, but one immediate problem is that you are running unsupported and outdated Ubuntu software. Ubuntu 10.04 was EOL 2013

    * http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/03/19/changes-in-ubuntu-releases-decided-by-the-ubuntu-technical-board/
I just booted an old Ubuntu lucid, and that was using Firefox (Canonical) 20. No doubt that was the last version of Firefox available when support ended.
You probably will be able to run & install Firefox Mozilla 27 on that if you tried, but I have not tried that myself.
I am posting this from Ubuntu 12.04 precise using Firefox(Canonical) 28 and also have various Firefox Mozilla versions installed.
You appear to have posted from a Windows7 64 bit computer. If you use an up to date Ubuntu your distro will have an up to date matching Firefox Canonical. You will have a choiceof 32 or64 bit Ubuntu. If however you happen to go down the route of Mozilla Firefox note the default download offerings are 32bit builds, although 64bit are available as ftp downloads.
If you follow the instructions in
    *[[install firefox on linux]]
    ** '''edit''' and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion/MozillaBuilds
that is an additional version. It does not remove your distro install of Firefox.
Whatever route you take remember to backup the Firefox profile and put it somewhere safe. Just in case anything goes wrong. (Remember you probably have an encrypted Home Directory/Partition ) It is now possible to upgrade automatically no need to do it manually

  • Recently Firefox is not displaying PDF files. It acts like it loads the PDF but there is nothing there but the 'program' that the document should be shown in.

This started with Firefox 20 and still persists with Firefox 21. It never happened before. Everything is up to date. However, the PDFs don't display. Sometimes I can see the progress bar showing a load and sometimes it's just the normal PDF program background, but regardless, it is not displaying. What's happening with this?
By the way, I end up having to go to Chrome to view the PDF since I cannot get them to work in Firefox.

Firefox 19 introduced an integrated PDF viewer. Unfortunately, it can't handle all of the formats and features supported by the Adobe plugin (yet). To switch, check out this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]. Does that solve it?

  • After installing Firefox 4 Beta, videos on Youtube do not play at all and the only thing that shows up is a black screen. Why is this happening?

I don't know what the problem is. I installed the new update plug-in for Flash and it's still not working. I don't know what do do next.

No, that's not it. I tried both ways: 64-bit flash plugin, with Firefox in 64-bit mode. Latest 32-bit flash plugin with flash in 32-bit mode. No go.
I see the first frame of the video. Video does not update except in chunks, portions of the screen, every few seconds. Sometimes there is no audio.
Curiously, other video sites, such as vimeo, are fine. Also, some embedded youtube videos on other sites are also fine. But the problem is consistently there on youtube.com.

  • I need to configure Acrobat to display PDF files in Safari, but I have a lot of troubles to do it.I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat.

    Dear everyone
I need to configure Acrobat to display PDF files in Safari, but I have a lot of troubles to do it.
I read a european commission document explaining that
    http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/support/sep_usermanual.pdf
If Safari does not display pdf forms in the browser window, uninstall all older versions of Adobe Reader and download the most recent one. First close Safari and then install Reader. Launch Safari and you ought to be able to open the pdf files inside the Safari window. If you install Adobe Reader 10.1.x without first closing Safari, Safari will not display the pdf file inside its browser window until it is re-launched. For further help, please see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-safari-plug-acrobat-x.html
I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat
but when I open a web page that I need to allow me to display and modify PDF files it is not working.
I checked the following web page
    Troubleshoot Safari plug-in | Acrobat X, Reader X
    that is recommending the following:
The AdobePDFViewer plug-in is used to display PDF files in Safari using Acrobat and Reader.
This plug-in is installed as part of the Acrobat X or Reader X installation. The location of this plug-in is:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
but after the new installation with this folder is completely empty and I am still
    unable to open these pdf.
Does anybody knows anything else I can do?
    Best regards
    Ramon

  • Firefox 11 not displaying pdfs with Adobe Reader update (MacOS)

Since updating to Adobe Reader 10.1.3, I noticed Firefox 11 does not display PDF files. It just shows a blank screen.
The only workaround I found is disabling the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in (ver. 10.1.3) the update installs. Firefox will prompt which application to use.Choosing Preview allows the PDFs to display correctly.
Neither Chrome or Safari exhibit this behavior, nor does Firefox 11 (Windows) with the update installed.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I've found another workaround to this problem. If you open Firefox 11 in 32-bit mode, it will be able to display PDF files.
To open Firefox in 32-bit mode, quit Firefox, go to the Applications folder, right-click on Firefox and click on "Get Info".
Then, under General, you should see a checkbox where you can have Firefox open in 32-bit. Close this window and restart Firefox and you should be good to go.

  • After installing Firefox and some of its added software, NO SAFARI app.

After installing and using Firefox and download some optional additions, including a password generator and flash suppressor, as well as a couple more recommended, I no long see my original desktop and cannot bring up Safari. Additionally, my Internet Connection at home stopped working. The latter could be some other problem, but the IDP Cox could not solve the problem over the phone and wont be to my house for three days. Now I am in a Library where Firefox worked, but Safari did not.
The ICON for Safair is not on the Dock and under applications it does not look right. When I use that one anyway, I get an error message that some essential parts are missing and I have to reinstall Safari. That seems to be drastic.
If this was Windows I guess that I might try to go back in time using the application that allows you to go far enough back by date to find a time when the computer worked.
What do I do in Apple? Obviously, I am a newer user and also fiddle around too much, I feel.
Any help will be appreciated. I guess I will have to come back to the library or to a coffee shop to read it on Firefox

Well, installing Firefox or any add-ons would certainly not cause this, since they are completely unrelated to system-level changes. You had to have done something to cause this, so I'm guessing that you fiddled with some things without know what you were doing or the ramifications of doing it.
For your information, that is a bad idea. Apple does quite a bit to hide the underpinnings of the OS from users, since there are over 168,000 files on the Mac, most of which you cannot see. But that doesn't stop people from deleting things randomly or clicking on the wrong file and hosing their system. You should try to stifle that urge to fiddle around unless you know exactly what you're doing, why, and what could happen if it doesn't work.
So, bottom line is that you'll have to reinstall Safari, and it does get a bit involved.
    1. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove the receipt "Safarixxx.pkg", where xxx is any series of numbers following the word Safari.
    2. Get your Mac OS X install disc and insert it into the drive. Browse the contents to the Optional Installs folder, then find the Safari installer inside of that. Double-click on the Safari package to start the installation process. If it gives you an error message, post back with exactly what it says.
If it finishes the installation, quit the installer and go to the Apple menu on the top left of your screen and select Software Update; it should tell you that there's a newer version of Safari and ask if you want to install it -- say yes to that.
When it's done, quit Software Update, go to HD/Applications and look for the Safari icon; click and drag the icon to the Dock, then try to launch Safari. If that works, eject your Mac OS X install disc and you should be set. Just don't fiddle around.
