After installing iOS6 on my iPhone 4, iTunes does not recognize my phone as a device.

After installing iOS6 on my iPhone 4, iTunes does not recognize my phone as a device. It no longer appears in the left devices column. I keep getting an error pop-up from Windows telling me "MobileDeviceService stopped working and was closed."
Yes, I have the latest version of iTunes for Windows. And when I go into Preferences, it still lists my iPhone as a device back-up, and the date of the last back-up.
What can I do to fix this?

If your iTunes is the latest version, restart your computer and reboot your iPhone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPhone restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • My iphone 5 is frozen on the screen that shows a cable and itunes symbol.  I can not get the phone to enter DFU mode and itunes does not recognize the phone when plugged in to itunes.  The phone was mid update when it was disrupted....

I plugged my iphone in to do an update and it was mid way through the update when the phone was accidentally disconnected.  Now the phone is stuck on the screen that shows a cable and the iTunes image suggesting the phone needs to be plugged in to iTunes.  I have plugged it in, powered on and off, attempted to enter DFU mode numerous times all with no success.  ITunes does not recognize the phone and I continue to only receive the screen saying I need to plug in to iTunes..  Please help!

Hold Sleep Button with Home Button toghether until it restarts Always it takes 8 to 15 seconds, after it restarts leave the sleep button and remember do not leave the home button it automaticlly switches to DFU mode.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. Yu can make an appointment at the the Genius Bar of an Apple store or try:

  • How di I restore iPhone when iTunes does not recognize it?

I finally upgraded iOS for iPhone, but something went wrong, and now iTunes does not recognize the phone at all.  I am guessing at some point the wireless network through which the upgrade was taking place failed.

If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode
Note: If your device is working on its own and is not in recovery mode, this set of steps is not for you; do not manually place the device into recovery mode.
Your device may not be recognized while in recovery mode. This can happen during an update or restore of your device. Typically when your device is in recovery mode, it will show the "Connect to iTunes" logo on its display. If iTunes does not recognize the device when in this state, try the following:
    Open the Device Manager:
Windows XP: Click Start > Run. In the resulting dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start. In the dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return on the keyboard. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click "Continue".
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type devmgmt.msc, and press Return.
Click the plus icon (Windows XP and Vista) or the disclosure triangle () (for Windows 7 and 8) next to Imaging Devices, Other Devices, Portable Devices, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand these sections.
Check these sections for one or more entries called Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). These entries may or may not have exclamation marks on them similar to the following:
If you see only one "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" entry that has no errors on it:
If you see two "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" entries with exclamation marks on them:

  • HT4527 How can I get me songs from my iTouch to my new iPhone? iTunes does not recognize the songs that I got from my own CD collection. My laptop is not a Mac so senuti does not work.

I have an iTouch with songs that are on there from my CDs as well as purchased songs from iTunes. Currently my iTouch plays all of my music. When I went to sync my new iPhone4S using my PC (Windows with latest upgrade), it only will sync songs I purchases from iTunes. It appears all of the music on iTunes that I put there from my CDs have an ! next to them, and they will not sync to my new phone. How can I get my iTunes account to recognize my CDs as legal muisc that I can put on my iPhone? I do not want to reload all 1,600 songs from my CD collection.

Songs with an exclamation mark against them are songs that iTunes can't find. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the files, or that the drive the live on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

My phone says IMEI and ICCID unknown, does anybody know what I might do to fix problem?

While it could be a hardware problem (if so, take it to Apple for replacement), it is also a common sign that your attempted baseband update, (or hack) did not apply correctly.  Whether it is reparable  is not something for discussion on these forums.

  • Music in iPhone 4 and iTunes not in sync.  Have 2000 songs on iPhone that iTunes does not know about.

I have an iPhone 4.  I recently moved to a new laptop.  I have about 2000 songs stuck on my iPhone that iTunes does NOT recognize.  I've tried several things.  I've went back and forth between "manually manage music and videos." I've checked/unchecked Sync Music.  I've checked/unchecked playlists, artists, etc.  At this point, iTunes doesn't think I have any music on my iPhone EXCEPT for the Capacity.  The Capacity seems to be right. At this point, without deleting every artist individually and manually, I'd like to delete the 2000 songs and start over.  Any tips?

Updating is not suppose to wipe any media or apps.
It may happen because sometimes things just go wrong.
I would back everything up first.

  • My iphone 4s is stuck on recovery mode and itunes does not recognize it at all.

Hi. Last night I left it updating 5.1.1 from 5.1 when I was going to bed. I need the phone today and I dont know what to do. Please help me. Sorry if my english is bad.

  • Windows 7 or itunes does not recognize my ipad, windows 7 or itunes does not recognize my ipad

Help!   After resetting my ipad, Windows 7 or Itunes does not recognize it.  I have read and followed all assistance or how to's that I came across on line but nothing works.

    Check in this order-
    1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
    2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
    3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
    4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
    5. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
    6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.
    7. Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 for Windows and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 for Macs
    8. And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -
