After Installing iTunes 7, unexpected crash while building albums
I downloaded and installed iTunes 7 on a PC/Windows XP, and it seemed to replace iTunes 6 successfully. It also updated my copy of Quicktime. All was good, until I opened the application. It asked me a question, something like "do you want to download album art?" I thought this sounded cool, so I clicked Yes. When it started processing the albums, it had an error on the 9th one. The application unexpectedly quit. I tried reloading and it started processing albums, and quit again. I looked in the Apple Discussions, and found a note that showed me how to delete Quicktime files ("because old QT files might be lurking" he said). I did that, reinstalled iTunes 7, and it installed QT 7 fresh, but when I ran the program, it started processing albums again and then quit.
I didn't try removing the program yet, because I'm scared it'll remove my downloaded music.
I already checked the basics, like having enough disk space, enough memory, restarting my computer, etc.
What else can I do. I need to burn a CD with my latest downloaded music from iTunes, but i can't do that, because it quits too fast!!
PC Laptop Windows XP
Anyway, I've tried un-installing iTunes and re-installing it, and that didn't work. I have a feeling that the error is caused while building new album information. It always fails while "analyzing" song 8 or 9.
hmmmmm. i've seen a few cases of the gapless playback analysis choking on a song file(s) and producing that error message.
finding which song file(s) is the source of the problem can be difficult. but this set of instructions by Roy B may be of some help:

After installing itunes Windows 7 doesnt boot and stalls while loading atipcie.sys driver
After installing itunes my computer stalls when loading atipcie.sys driver. Computer will not boot up in safe mode or Last known good. Only resolution was to perform System Restore to a time before itunes was installed, thus deleting the itunes installation
Anyone know of a fix or workaround for this issue ?Windows 7 64 bit core i7
BSOD while updating to iTunes 10 with suspended installation of Apple Mobile Device Support. Network drivers no longer working as a result. Attempted fix by downloading from a different machine and competing install via files transferred over on flash drive. No dice. Attempted removal of iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update to see if this would fix. Followed this up with a restart. This seems to have improved matters as system is starting up faster. No dice. Try reinstall network drivers from Sony ViaoCare disk. Installed and restarted. No dice. Next, try Widows 7 Network and Sharing diagnostics. No dice. Next try manual removal & reinstall of network driver using Device Manager, restart. Can't seem to re-install Network Controller. Still trying to solve this. -

Many Thanks,
Yvan Janssens (this is not my Mac)I'm running OSX 10.6.4 on MacBook Pro (a couple of years old) ... and my (original) iPhone is recognized just fine by the new iTunes 9. I too am anxiously awaiting arrival of my iPhone 4 ... and got the same kind of shipment information as other folks described on the iPad; i.e. being shipped direct from China via Hong Kong. I sure hope they've got the bugs worked out of that process since the iPad 3G fiasco. I was also amused (NOT!) by "additional information" in the shipping-email I got from Apple. Basically it says that if there is a delay in activating the phone via iTunes, "trust us" that Apple and AT&T will be working to get it activated as quickly as possible and will send out an email when it is activated --- in other words "don't call us, we'll call you".
David Brooks during his commentary last night on The News Hour made some comments about how business processes are really starting to break down in this country. I couldn't agree more. Last Thursday's mess was inexcusable! You'd think that the huge (and incredibly profitable) corporations like (BP), Apple, and AT&T would spend as much time and effort and money to get their processes in as good a shape as their products! Urrrrrr! Let's hope that the iPhone enrollment process goes better. -
After installing iTunes 10.4.0.80 "file" "edit" etc items from menu bar at top right corner disappeared -when cursor is put in that spot a darker rectangle appears - similarly tabs for syncing iPhone are invisible- and similarly small ovals appear when cursor is placed where tabs should be.
Very many thanks to you, Putaro! Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!

ITunes quits unexpectedly - crash reports
I have an issue with iTunes 11, which I used to have with iTunes 10 also so it doesn't seem to be version-specific.
My MacBook is used as a kind of media server, and so I have iTunes running all the time. After several hours though, iTunes will unexpectedly quit. If I reopen it it runs fine for hours, but then quits again. I can't figure out what's causing it.
I've sent a ton of crash reports to Apple over the last several months, and the latest is attached (text clipping format). I wondered if anyone versed with crash reports would be able to tell where the problem lies?
I'm running on a late-2008 MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. My iTunes library is on an external USB hard drive.

Re: iTunes 10.6 crashing after upgrade
Mar 8, 2012 12:24 AM
Here's the fix (I spend like an hour coming up with this):
Quit iTunes (if it hasn't already quit itself)
Go to /Applications/ and click iTunes.app
Press command + I to get info
Edit the permissions so everyone has read/write access
Move iTunes 10.6 to the trash
Go to ~/Music/iTunes (or wherever your iTunes library is stored)
Copy iTunes Library.itl to your desktop to be safe (delete it when you finish the process, this is your 10.6 library which you may still want if you can't fix iTunes after this)
Go to ~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/ and copy the file that was created closest to today (in my case, it was one from about an hour before I installed 10.6); the old library you're copying is your iTunes 10.5.3 library
Paste it in ~/Music/iTunes
Rename the file to iTunes Library.itl
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete everything that starts with com.apple.iTunes
Download the iTunes 10.5.3 disk image fromhttp://www.filejungle.com/f/QuAu6Q (just click slow download, it should start shortly after)
Install iTunes 10.5.3; it should load the older library you just copied to your iTunes folder
Open iTunes
Play a victory song and wait for 10.6.1 so you don't have to do this again -
After installing iTunes 11.1.5, my external hard drive holding my iTunes music cannot be acccessed. Attempting to open the iTunes folder location locks up the computer and requires a cold reboot to restore.

ITunes Error 7 (Windows error 127) after installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows
After installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows (latest build), I get an error pop-up saying:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes
Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I've gone thru the uninstall, reboot and reinstall process three or four times now. Still nothing.
Furthermore, after clicking okay to the error, it continues to pop up on it's own every 45 seconds or so.
There was one other error I came across after trying to launch iTunes after installation.
See both error messages here:
http://screencast.com/t/DSg4PpKF5BeXBrilliant. Thanks a lot. I've wasted a couple of hours on this nasty bug, & trying all the other suggestions across various threads again and again.
I now find I had the same registry entry hanging on, despite uninstalling & wiping everything again and again. Having now deleted this key, (I don't even have an iPod), & iTunes 11.1.14 now opens at long last.
But WHY is this bug not fixed? Enough people are suffering with this across the forum. WHERE is Apple support on this?
It should have been added to their page at
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
by now, why hasn't it???
It's not good enough!
Re:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls]
"C:\\Program Files\\iPod\\bin\\iPodService.exe"=dword:80000000
AHA! This entry for iPodService.exe still exhisted. So I had no folders on the PC, no installs on the PC and no services running.... BUT this was still in the Registry.
Step 5 - Delete only the Registry entry above. NO REBOOT
Step 6 - Reinstall iTunes64.exe -

Svchost.exe errors after installing iTunes 7.0.1.8
I have two computers that starting throwing svchost.exe errors immediately after installing iTunes 7. First it happened on my desktop. In preparation to reinstall Windows XP on my desktop, I prepared my laptop to use while my desktop was out of commision. I installed iTunes 7 and immediately I started getting svchost.exe errors. I don't have the blaster worm on either machine (already checked). My desktop is behind three firewals, runs Norton, and I already did a full virus scan on both.
This is causing significant problems as my computer can't see the network, outlook can wig out, and in general my machine is unpredicatable. I hate to think that installing iTunes 7.0 leads to the need to reinstall Windows. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate any help.I changed my "Startup Type" for "Terminal Services" from "Disabled" to "Manual". Resolved issue.

Question about a log in Console after installing iTunes update
After installing iTunes I noticed these logs in Console:
11/29/12 6:11:47.673 PM sudo[1485]: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.8WAxMg/Scripts/com.apple.pkg.MobileDevice.hTs dtR ; USER=XXXXXX ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl load -w //System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.MDCrashReportd.plist
11/29/12 6:11:47.691 PM sudo[1487]: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.8WAxMg/Scripts/com.apple.pkg.MobileDevice.hTs dtR ; USER=XXXXXX ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl start com.apple.MDCrashReportd
I noticed that they have something to do with Crash Reporter, but are they a crash, or some command to the file during the install of the update? Any insight from someone who understands the terminal commands would be appreciated.
Thanks,
ScottThe Safe Mode startup key combo is the same; Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs, it just isn't working for you.
I suggest starting from the Install DVD that came with your iMac. Once in the Installer you will find tools in the Utilties menu. Using the Disk Utility try repairing the startup volume.
