After installing Lion, I cannot get my MacPro 1,1 to boot Leopard..

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 - just got it, came with Leopard installed. I reformatted the internal hard drive and restored it to original factory OS, using the discs which came with the computer - which happened to be Tiger. Then I went thru the process of upgrading to Leopard, so I could install windows XP on a second hard drive. I put the Boot Camp hard drive in bay 1, and the Mac OS drive in bay 2.
I installed XP fine, installed the boot camp 2 drivers, went through the process of upgrading the boot camp drivers and XP in the proper order.. Then I upgraded the Mac os to snow leopard. No problem. Then I upgraded boot camp using the version 3  drivers. No problem. Then I upgraded to lion.
All this was done with a nVidia 7300 GT card installed.
Now I get a Radeon HD 4870 (BTO card for later model Mac Pro models), which I install, and which is working fine in Mac os. But Windows XP gives me nothing but a black screen.
So I decided to reinstall XP.
I reformatted the disk using disk utility, and launched Boot Camp Assistant in Lion. You all know what happened next... You can't install XP with boot camp 4.
Ok, this is getting old..
I have plenty of external hard drives around, so I grab one thats installed in an OWC enclosure, plug it in via firewire 400, and use my retail leopard DVD to reformat the drive (GUID partition map, mac os extended journaled blah blah) and install leopard on it. No problem.
Now it's down the rabbit hole.
I can't boot off this external drive. So I physically remove the Lion hard drive from the Mac Pro. Still no boot. I CAN boot off Leopard and Snow Leopard retail DVDs. Heck, I even plugged in a really old FireWire drive which was formatted Apple Partition Map and had Leopard installed from a PPC Mac.. And the Mac Pro booted off THAT. (leopard installed by a PPC Mac doesn't get boot camp assistant installed, unfortunately)
I did try resetting pram, that made no difference.
I did use the FireWire drive that I installed Leopard on to boot an intel iMac we have, so I know the drive and enclosure works.
Seems to me I've heard about this kind of issue before.. What can I do to get this Mac Pro to boot off Leopard?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Looks as though my cable provider's repairs to the system may be interfering with my signal.  Since I am the only one reporting this problem, since I've never had it before, and since the cable company's repair trucks are in the area, maybe that's the problem.

  • After instaled BB MediaSync, cannot get it to work !!!

I downloaded & installed BB Media Sync. After the installation, I launch the application and a dialogbox displays: "MusicSync has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." This dialogbox shows up regardless of whether or not my BB8830 is connected to my laptop or not.
I run XP Pro, SP2 on my laptop; I have iTunes v7.2;BB Desktop Manager v4.2.2.12 (VZW) installed. Does it mean that the downloaded file is bad? or the MediaSync is not ready for primetime?

    @BikerTech
Could you please provide us with a bit more information?
Please perform the following steps and we will attempt to debug this issue:
-Open Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer
-Right Click on ‘Application’ and say ‘Clear All Events’
-Launch BlackBerry MediaSync (and let it crash as usual)
-Return to the Event Viewer Pane which should contain some kind of error event (you may have to hit F5 to refresh)
    -Double-click the error event
-Press the ‘copy’ button (it looks like two pieces of paper overlapping)
-Paste that information into a post
With this information, we may be able to determine the cause of the issue. This type of crash should only occur if a critical system dependency is missing or if one of the files has become corrupted during the installation.
    Thanks.

  • Anyone getting this pop up error message after installing Lion?

After installing Lion I now get random pop up error messages that say...There was a problem connecting to the server. URL's with the type "file" are not supported. I have to keep closing them. Any ideas what to do?

Actually, In my case, turning off Time Machine didn't help. I had the same problem. We definitely traced it to Time Machine. The "Fix" was this: plugged in and designated different external HD as Backup volume. Then unplugged it and plugged in the original disc (after testing in in a different machine) and now the computer recognized it and error message stopped popping up. The Apple tech was as puzzled as I as to why this worked, but perhaps, forcing the machine to re-recognize it (or maybe even gettting it recognized by a different machine first) somehow worked some magic.

  • After installing Lion on my Mac mini I no longer get a sound whe I plug in a usb device, and sometimes iTunes does not recognize my iPad.  Is this normal (lack of usb recognition sound)?

After installing Lion on my mini, I no longer get a "recognition sound" when I plug in a usb device.  Is this normal?

I am not sure any Mac every had a sound for plugging/unplugging USB devices.
You may be right. It's only on Windows that the sound is created and heard.
I know that since Tiger on this MBP, when I plug in my external scanner, I never heard anything.
And plugging in my Blu-Ray recorder also does not make any sounds.
I cannot speak for anything but my Mac laptops, however. Desktop Macs might make a sound.

  • After loading Lion I cannot open some pictures. I get Unsupported Image Format. It tells me picture was taken with Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens

After loading Lion I cannot open open some pictures in Aperture. I get Unsupported Image Format, all files even the ones I can open are .JPG. Also it tells me picture was made using Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens.

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.

  • After Installing Lion how do i get the windows partition back?

The Windows Partition is not showing up after installing Lion.
I only get the option of booting Mac or Recovery
How do I get it back.

    Hi!
I had the similar problem, where my windows option went missing after installing Lion. I gave up trying to resolve it and did a clean installation on windows again by re-configuring my Windows partition & install Windows 7 on it. It seems to work well for now...
Apple should have warned us that the Windows partition will be unreadable when u install Lion. Hence, allowing users to back their files up on Windows environment before installing Lion.
Thank god I did not have any important files save in Windows.

After I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I cannot get my external speakers to work (Bose).  What can I do to fix?  They worked fine prior to upgrade.

If you haven't already, go to your Applications folder>System Preferences>"Sound">click on the center tab labelled "Output">highlight your external Bose Speakers in the list by clicking on it>turn up the Volume slider at the bottom of the window.  Hopefully that solves your problem.
    Hope this helps

  • My computer case seems like it gets really hot after installing lion

My Macbook Pro  is only 5 months old and I don't remember that the case ever got very warm.  Now I can't even keep it on my lap because of the hot case.  It almost seems worse after installing Lion earlier this week.  I'm not positive about that?
    What should I do?
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B0E

The Macbook Pro shell (bottom) will get hot during long periods of use... such as playing games, DVDs, etc. Also depends on the environment you are in... There is nothing wrong with it.

  • After installing lion my macpro is very slow

After installing lion my Macv pro became very slow. takes long time to start ad to shoot down. Is there any fix for this?

Lion does best when you do a clean install on a new drive, then use Setup or Migration Assistants.
You're going to have to show / ask what old stuff you carried over from before most likely.
Then again, people complained when Snow Leopard came out. And before that there was...
To say it starts and shutdown more slowly is the surface superficial and doesn't say how installed, what, even the model Mac Pro and how it is configured.
You are going to want to use Safe Mode and Lion Recovery and backups for starters most likely.

  • Why am i getting poor quality photo prints after installing lion using canon pixma 6120?

After installing Lion, I began experiencing poor quality photo prints on my Canon Pixma 6120 printer.  Prior to Lion, my picture prints were all high quality.  Now, anything black in the picture is faded.

Lion should not cause the blacks to print faded. The printer drivers used by Snow Leopard and Leopard are the same version as that used by Lion.
For starters I suggest you check that you have the latest version installed. This Apple KB article shows the MG6100 series has v10.51.2.0 as the latest version.
I also recommend you do a Nozzle test print. This can be executed from the MG6120 control panel or via the Printer Utilties window (via Print & Scan, select the printer and then open Options & Supplies and then select the Utilties tab).
If the nozzle test print is okay but the blacks still look faded when printing photos (note the printer has two black ink tanks - one for photos and one for text) then try a reset of the printing system. This will remove the MG6120 from the Print & Scan pane but not the supporting drivers. So you will only have to add the printer again.
