After installing Lion, I get the pinwheel of death.

After installing Lion, I get the pinwheel of death. I ran a Varify and it quit saying I had overlapped files. Help please...

You're profile indicates you have a MacBook Pro, did you know this is an iMac forum?
Regarding your issue it would be helpful if you provided much more information. You get the spinning beachball when? Also how much RAM does your MBP have and any other specifics about your problem.

I can't install Lion, I get the "No Recovery" message. I do not have a boot camp partition. I have backed up and completed a clean install of Snow Leopard. Lion would still not install. Please help?

Did you completely erase your drive when you reinstalled SL? If not, I would make sure that you erase the drive completely. Then install SL and make sure you run Software Update. If you already did all of those, then do it again, but this time make a bootable drive for Lion using the Lion OS X Install App. I believe you can find instructions on how to do that by searching this community or doing a google search.
Once you have a bootable drive of Lion, then shut your machine down. Plug in the bootable drive and turn the machine on. Once you hear the tone hold down 'C' until you see the spinning clock/bars. The Lion Install menu should appear. If not, try going to the Apple icon and select Startup. Next a window should appear showing your bootable drive. Select that and follow the directions.
Make sure that when you reinstall SL that you don't restore any of your Apps or files yet, wait to do that once you have Lion installed.

  • TS3276 when I Open my Mail, I get the pinwheel of death and nothing else

When I try to open my mail, I get the pinwheel of death. Nothing happens. I have to force quit

Sounds like you want the "classic layout" (as in, the way Mail looked before Lion).  Go to Mail -> Preferences, click the Viewing icon and check "Use classic layout."

  • Local NAS not connecting after installing Lion, what is the fix ?

After installing Lion, my local NAS is not connecting, what can I do to fix it.

I have the same problem with my Conceptronic CH3HNAS and have found a free and easy solution.
Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.
I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.
I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.
    Hope it helps you.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • After installing Lion, many of the sites I go to in Safari fail an the screen message states that Safari "can't find the server."  I've tried a number of suggested solutions but still no luck.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a resolution?

Thanks C F McBlob but I recursively changed the permissions of my Music directory meaning every file and directory beneath it, as well as the directory itself, had the write permissions added.
    I used "chmod -R u+w ./Music" and chmod -R g+w ./Music" to do it.
    Alas, no cigar. :-(

  • Since I installed Lion I get the message "The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media " when I try to burn a DVD.

Is this just a coincidence with a drive failure or is it a problem with Lion?

Try a different DVD or try a commercial laser head cleaner Disc

  • After Installing Lion, FaceTime kills the internal microphone when connecting

Once I connect to the person I'm calling, the audio input level of the imternal microphone dies, and the person I'm calling can barely hear me. Once I end the Facetime call, the audio levels for the internal mic go right back to normal. Is there a fix yet for this?

I still got that problem, even on 10.7.3
Talked several times to the Support-Hotline (AppleCare) but NOTHING happened.
FaceTime works with an external Mic, but it's not possible to use the internal mic.
I Know that the mic is okay, because it works with Garage Band and even with Skype.
    Anyone got a workaround?

  • After installing Lion, I get an audio "instillation failed" message every tine I turn on computer. everything seems to work except microphone on roseta stone software.

I have reinstalled OS Lion with same results.

If you have an older version of Rosetta Stone, it was coded in PowerPC code which Lion is not capable of executing. I understand that they either have or will have a new version that is compatable with Lion.

  • Problem starting up after installing Lion

After installing Lion I get this error message when starting and getting to the desktop:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button untilnit turns off, then press the power button again."
Starting in safe mode works fine.

That could be the wording presented by 10.7 when a kernel panic occurs.
If so, consider first the possibility of an issue with third party software or hardware.

  • After Installing Lion how do i get the windows partition back?

The Windows Partition is not showing up after installing Lion.
I only get the option of booting Mac or Recovery
How do I get it back.

    Hi!
I had the similar problem, where my windows option went missing after installing Lion. I gave up trying to resolve it and did a clean installation on windows again by re-configuring my Windows partition & install Windows 7 on it. It seems to work well for now...
Apple should have warned us that the Windows partition will be unreadable when u install Lion. Hence, allowing users to back their files up on Windows environment before installing Lion.
Thank god I did not have any important files save in Windows.
