What does that mean ?

I have an early 2011 Macbook pro, and i have been advised to re install OS Lion but i do not know exactly how to re install Lion, i have been advised to hold down "alt" while booting up to get into the restore ??? is this true? Any advice on how to re install it would be greatly appreciated?

Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Random Reboots after Mountain Lion Update MacBook Pro

Hey All, So I've just installed mountain lion on my macbook pro, However I've been running into an issue of frequent (like 3-5 times per day) crashes. The screen simply just goes black and the computer restarts. Any idea what the issue could be? Here is the panic report attached:

Can't install Lion on Macbook Pro with bootcamp.

Basically I have a Macbook pro with 10.6.8 with windows installed on a partition called bootcamp.
I try to install lion on Mac HD and it says This disk doesnt use the GUID partition table....Use disk utility....
How ever when I select my internal hd in disk utility, 'options' is blanked out.
Any ideas on how I get round this with out formting the whole hdd and backing up all of my windows and mac software.

I am willing to try this, but I was kinda trying to find a solution that doesn't need me to unscrew stuff ..etc

Macbook Pro not recognizing printer Canon iP4300

I have been having problems with my Canon iP4300 Pinter. Once upon a time it worked, now it doesn't. I only use it to print direct to DVD's. I have another printer attached which is an all-in-one Brother for my main printing, faxing etc. (unfortunately it doesn't print direct to DVD tho). I have tried reinstalling the drivers but now mt MB Pro won't recognize the printer at all. If I plug it in to my USB hub I get a message stating "Over Current Usage" or something like that. I try plugging it in to my USB port on the MB Pro left or right side and still nothing. When I go thru Printer Settings it checks for new drivers and still nothing.
What am I doing wrong?
Can I connect printer with a different cable? Firewire?
Please help!!

Hi.
Try a different USB cable. I had troubles with USB printer cables a couple of times, giving me the weirdest problems.
If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the IP4300 driver: move the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter folder to the Trash and empty it, then download and install the latest IP4300 driver from the Canon download page.
Plug the printer directly to the Macbook Pro, or get a powered USB Hub.

Install Lion on Macbook Pro Using Recovery ?

i read about this and then sort of get into overload and can't seem to nail it down ..
i currently use an imac running snow leopard
i bought a mbp which will arrive in the next couple of days
i am eligible for a free lion upgrade
have i got this right ?
1) register for the free lion upgrade and assume it will be available in the app store
2) i connect the mbp (which i will receive with snow lion on it) to software update and will then download the new firmware update which will allow me to use lion recovery
3) i then restart the mbp and hold down command-r and will be given the option to wipe the drive, i go ahead and wipe the drive and then do i reboot (and then do a fresh install of lion) or just go back to disk utility and then do a fresh install of lion ?
4) bottom line, there is no need for me to create any disks or usb drives as long as i have the firmware updated on the mbp (which will happen when i update it from snow leopard) and have an internet connection and an account with apple
5) since the firmware is in for good i can, from now on, simply log in and install fresh os's over the net (i routinely wipe my machine and reinstall about once a year)

Won't boot after installing multitouch drivers - Macbook Pro 8, 1

I had gotten tired of OS X and decided to install Arch finally, got everything up and running except for the trackpad (because I normally use a mouse and an extenel monitor.)
I had installed mtrack (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=48505) from the AUR and configured it with most of the options I thought I needed, but then on reboot I got stuck on the inital screen which gave me "sdhci-pci: invalid iomem size. You may experience problems" and the fschk result (clean as a whistle.) I had to get rid of the original configuration file from a Live CD to get my system to boot, if the need arises I'll try and reproduce it.
Any help?

ln -s /dev/<usb key> /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201108
5) logout (exit)
and you have your arch booting

Can't reopen iPhoto after installing update on MacBook Pro.

I installed an update for iPhoto yesterday and now find I cannot reopen it. When trying to install, it gets to 50% of step 2 and then quits. Is there any way I can save my photographs, which aren't backed up anywhere other than iPhoto?

The iPhoto application and iPhoto Library are separate items.
All your photos are inside the iPhoto Library package, and that is what you should backup asap!
Your iPhoto Library is by default in your Pictures folder and called iPhoto Library.photolibrary.
Drag this package to an external drive to make a backup copy.
Do you have any Fire wall enabled or Anti Virus software running? If yes, turn it off, while you are running the installer.
If that does not help, boot into SafeMode, while installing, see: Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Or, if this still does not help, sign into a different administrator account and run the installer from there. You are not by any chance running out of disk space?

Slow wake up after installing lion (Macbook Pro 2010)

Hi there,
After installing Lion, my Macbook Pro 15" takes a lot longer to wake up from sleep than before (taking 10 or more seconds, instead of 2 seconds in Snow Leopard).
Am I the only one seeing this? I did a normal install (upgrade from SL) from the Mac App store. RAM is 8 GB.

I seem to have fixed this issue. I ran Disk Utility and it showed error in the file structure. I rebooted into to Lion Recovery partition and ran Disk Utility, did a repair, and now (for the time being) it wakes as expected without all the whiring fans and falling back off to sleepland.
One gotcha with the recovery partition boot is that it doesn't recognise Magic Mouse, and I had to dig out my USB mouse.
Hope this info is of some help.
