After installing several updates, the system is unstable

I tried to install my mac mini server several times, all works fine, but after installing the updates from Apple update service, the VPN, Workgroup manager makes problems.
In the last case I installed the last great update for the snow leopard server and the last update was the Safari update. After the Safari update the connection is very slow and I get no VPN connection. Also when I start the workgroup manager for example I need 5 minutes to connect to the server.

Select photos to share
Click on All Photos already selected Do anyway
When Apply turns black click on Apply

Error after Installing and updating the DADS.CONF file
I was able to get all the software installed for AE 3.0.1 and open the HTTP Server prior to updating the DADS.CONF File.
So far I have not been able any errors in the Apache/Apache/logs directory that point to the issue.

I am unable to open Calendar on my iMac - this occurred after installing Security Update 2015-002. I don't know if related. A message pops up after several minutes saying Calendar quit unexpectedly (but it never really opens). How do get Calendar back?

[SOLVED] vi (vim) no longer works properly after updating the system
After updating the system with pacman -Syu vi stopped working. All syntax colors are gone, and everything is grey. When I press i to enter "insert" mode, editing is not visible. Changes are obscure and you can't tell what you are modifying. Quitting with :q will still prompt you to use :q! to abort changes, even if no changes were visibly made.
When scrolling to the beginning or end of a file, the screen flashes with grey glitch like areas. What happened to my vi!?!?!?!?!?
This all happened while following the beginner's guide to install arch linux. I realized this when trying to arbitrarily read a test file I made directly after updating.
The problems continued to be visible when installing and setting up sudo (those steps are the next steps that require vi)... I think the sudo installation worked... but my vi is horribly glitchy
Any ideas?
Last edited by trusktr (2010-02-19 07:19:55)Setting EDITOR does not help in every case. For instance, visudo is by default hard linked to vi. (You can change this, I know. )
But in fact, vi is only a symlink to ex. So I simply renamed this link and put another symlink to vim (vim-big in my case since I in fact do use the gvim package).
/usr/bin/vi -> vim-big
/usr/bin/vi-simple -> ex
The drawback is that I have to set those links on every vi-update. (But I sure will remember...)

After installing security update 10.6.8 last night I've seen dialog boxes asking me if I will allow incoming network connections to certain root processes, e.g. configd. I didn't see these dialog boxes prior to installing 10.6.8. How do I make informed decisions? In other words,
(1) Where can I find 25-word summary descriptions of these processes?
(2) Where can I find discussions of the consequences of granting or denying these requests?
Alternatively (and at some risk of revealing metaphysical doubt) why am I being asked for these permissions? And who expects me to make correct decisions?

after installing an update I am no longer able to hear sound out of my speakers. A red light comes on where the headphone jack is. I have already attempted to trip to switch with a wooden toothpick in the headphone jack but have not had luck.
Have you gone into system prefs nad made sure that the headphone port is set to audio out. And not audio in.
Also make sure that you are selecting built in speakers for your audio output.
If that does not fix it try doing a Pram reset.
Shut your mac down.
Press the startup button.
Hold down the following keys. Command Option P and R. Wait till you hear the chime 2 times. Then let go. See if that fixes it. -
My magic stopped working after I updated the system to Windows 7 SP1
It all goes well under the Mac OS X 10.6.
But,to Windows 7, the partial function went down after I updated the system.
Here's my problem.
The function of rolling in the middle area of Mouse didn't work.
I've tried to reinstall the Bootcamp 3.1, but nothing help.
So I wonder if there's anyone who can help me out.
P.S. Poor English, expected that you can understand.Did the Windows 7 disc have SP1 on it or did you download it from Windows Update/Microsoft site. I had Windows 7 64-bit on my system and I went to the Microsoft site to download SP1 and then installed it (I had issues in the past on different PC getting service packs to download and install from Windows Update). After it installed Windows was fine I had no issues. When I was finished with using the system for the day I went to Start>Shutdown to turn it off. Then the next day I turned it on and booted into Windows and it asked for my password. I went to type it in and nothing showed in the box. I went to use the built-in mouse in the MacBook Pro and it would not move. This had happened after I redid the entire hard drive (Mac OS X and Windows) after having some other Windows issues I was having. After I found out the issues were not on the Mac OS X side I put Windows back on and the drivers for it that was on the Mac OS X disc and used Apple Software Update for Windows to get the 3.2 drivers. I don't think Apple systems and Windows7 using SP1 is compatible. If you are able to in some way or form to go to Control Panel and view the installed Windows Updates, click on the one for Service Pack 1 and then click on uninstall and remove it. I take care of the updates on another system for someone else on an HP using Winsows 7 64-bit and after what happened to me I am not putting Service Pack 1 on theres.

If the update is an OS installer, you might want to consider moving it to a folder of an external backup drive for safe keeping. Why? Because Apple removes earlier OS versions when a new one is introduced; there are several threads here about not being able to download Mavericks.
Just a thought. I keep copies of all OS installers. That will come in handy shortly as I just purchased a refurb 2012 iMac because it can run/boot with Mountain Lion which I need for a couple of (important to me) software applications. I have a copy of an ML installer tucked away and ready to go. -

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) -

Yes, you can delete it.
But, the Adobe folder you want to remove is actually the setup for Acrobat. So, you might save it at some other location so that if in future you need to re-install the software, there is no need to download the entire product.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -

- Turn off wi-fi.
- Start Calendar.
- File > Export > Calendar Archive... (just in case)
- Quit Calendar.
- Option-Go > Library .
- Enter Time Machine.
- Select a date.
- Restore Calendar .
- Start Calendar.
- File > Export > Calendar Archive... (to a new name)
- Turn on wi-fi. -

The update failed - using a USB to microUSB lead (that Apple annoyingly don't include!), try to restore the AppleTV software to current version software using instructions here:

Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
