After installing Time Capsule internet connection slow

Since I installed Time Capsule on my Mac, my internet connection started acting up. The web browsing is VERY SLOW, and applications that are web-based no longer work properly. For instance, I have an EyeFi Wireless Explore SD card and the related EyeFi Manager software that allows me to wirelessly transfer my photos on the eyefi card to the eyefi website, as well as my photo service (Kodak Gallery or Flickr) and also transfers the photos to my Mac. Before I set up my Time Capsule, the eyefi system worked flawlessly. Now the uploads hang up and do not complete. I also have very slow progress trying to use my webmail, or loading webpages in general. I use the Safari browser.
My Time Capsule is set up as a separate wireless network, so I access the internet thru my original home wireless network. Is anyone having the same issues after installing Time Capsule, and does anyone have a solution?

Try doing a Safe Mode reboot by holding down the Shift key when you hear the start-up tone. When the progress bar appears you can release the key. A Safe Reboot will clear some of the caches, it's possible one became corrupt. If that doesn't work do both a SMC and PRAM reset, you may need to do each 2-3x.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • Many problems after installing Time Capsule

I am not sure if this is the correct forum. I posted it on the iCloud forum, but think it belongs here. I wasn't able to move it.
    Here is my story:
    Where do I start!
    MacBook Pro ~2009
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
About the time I installed Time capsule, I started to have the following problem. At fist, i thought the problem as iCloud.
    Here is my problem:
    1. Can't get iCloud email on my Mac  [I can ob my iPhone 4S]
    2. I keep getting an error accessing any website: Safari can't verify the identity of the website... This includes Apple.com
    3. In my Key Chain, the passwords for Me.com are long apparently random numbers.
    4. I can't access any iCloud email from my iCloud that was associated with my ME account. I hahe a secondiCloud account which appears fibe.
    5. I can't even open iCloud on Safari. As soon as iCloud shows up on the screen, It says that iCloud had unexpectidly stopped. When i hit the reload option, the error message returns... over and over.
    6. When i tried to opem iCloud on Google Chrome, I get a HUGE error message on a red page saying "The server's certificate is no valid!"
There are probably more symptoms that occured, but I am so frustrated I may have forgotten.
Oh yeaf, a week ago I got a new Apple Time Capsile 2T
    Maybe it's not iCloud?!?
EDIT: THis did not happen when I first got the TIme Capsule. It started 2 days ago. I also got a message about setting up Back To My Mac, but I only have one Mac [I don't mean that having multiple Macs is an asperation, because I am thourily pleased having "just one Mac", and an iPhone 4S and an iPad 3; That's quite a blessing!]
    MacBook Pro, iOS 5.1.1

Easy like beauty when it comes to Networking is in the eye of the beholder.
Your issue is probably double NAT.. the TC should have thrown up warning messages.
    On lion
Step one.. install 5.6 utility. And use that exclusively.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
It will be familiar if you used any previous version of airport utility.
Open the manual setup.. go to Internet tab.. go to connection sharing at the bottom..
The TC must be set to off bridge mode. If not, select that and update the TC.
Now everything is going to totally mess up.. don't worry.. start again by rebooting the entire network.. ie everything off.. not sleep.. not semi-consious.. off. Restart in order.. with 2 min wait.. Modem.. router.. TC.. other network rubbish.. (if you have switch and the like).. clients.
Now try again with emails etc.
    I am hopeful.

  • Forgot partition after installing time capsule.

I installed Time Capsule on my airport.
I did not realize that I had to make a partition first, as it is now using my full 2 TB.
What should I do now as I only want 500GB to use for Time Capsule and the rest as hard disk.
    Please advice next steps.
    Thanks in advance

    Guy,
Here is a link on how to limit the size of your TM backup.

This may be a better option than creating a disk image for your data.
I think I'll try this myself with my TM backup.

  • Slow shutdown after installing time capsule. Please help

    Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing some troubles when restarting or shutting down my iMac Intel 8gb RAM late 2010. It takes longer than usual ( before I buy my 4th gen. Time capsule it Was very quick) and now, after I installed it I can see the grey spinning wheel and a geey blank screen for several seconds before it goes off.
    Things I already tried
.  reparing permissions from Lion recovery  mode (some of them can not be repaired. I already tried almost everything)
. Onyx all maintenance options passed.
    . Disabled time machine
. Deleted home folder preferences from terminal (revia reset password )
My iMac Is running Lion 10.7.2
I've configured my time capsule in bridge mode, with automatic backup copies
I'm sharing Time capsule disk over wan and Internet.
I've configured iCloud with back To my Mac, documents and the rest of options
Please, I need some help¡. Can you help me?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Wifi doesn't automatically connect after installing Time Capsule

I've been having problems wifi connectivity on both of my MacBook Pros since installing a 2TB Time Capsule. They lose the wifi connection when they go to sleep/restart and I must manually select the wifi network to connect (and it takes AWHILE for it to pop up). Both are running Mountain Lion.
I know there are a lot of wifi connectivity issues out there, but I wonder if mine is different since it happened directly after installing the Time Capsule.
Also, and I'm not sure if its related, but I no longer have the Airport option in my network preferences...nor is it there when I try to "+" a new one.
    Any suggestions?

I had this problem for months. My Macbook Pro wouldn't reconnect to my wifi after sleep. Eventually found the solution - for me anyway. I switched off the 5GHz frequency on my router. I have a BT router and it operates on 2.4 GHz and 5GHz. Straight after I disabled 5GHz, it never had a problem reconnecting after sleep after that. Simple as that. I'll paste the link to the article I found below but this forum may remove it.

  • Unable to browse network shares after installing Time Capsule

After installing my time capsule I am no longer able to browse the other computers on my network. I can ping them just fine but when I try to see them under "shared" or to brows to the ip address, it doesn't display the other computers. It sees the Time capsule just fine. The other computers are hooked up to the time capsule as well. One Computer is windows XP based and the other is Windows Vista. When I boot into my Windows XP (via boot camp) the other computers show up just fine and I'm able to touch the shared files. Its just the mac side that is not seeing them. They are all connected via ethernet cable connection. I appreciate any help to solving this. Thanks.

Make sure that the shares are unmounted before you sleep and see if it makes a difference. Not that it's a fix, just curious on how it reacts to see what could be going on.
Another good piece of information to get is to open Terminal and do a 'df'. See if you have any volumes mounted. They'll look like //Username@IP/Share and mounted to /Volumes/Sharename or /Volumes/Sharename-XX.
Try a 'sudo umount /Volumes/Sharename' and see if it gives you any errors back or dismounts it cleanly.

  • Time capsule - internet connection problem via wireless

Hi all - I've browsed around many other similar threads about people having difficulties with their Time Capsules, and although some of the problems I'm experiencing are similar, there's a few interesting oddities that other questions don't address or solve.
I have a 1TB Time Capsule that's acting as a router for my network. It's connected via the WAN port to a Netgear DG632 modem/router (in modem mode) that is set up with a static IP address and the DNS server for my ISP. The TC is also set up with these same static IP/DNS details, and is set to share the one public IP address.
The TC serves up DHCP addresses to the LAN devices via a mixture of ethernet (to a G4 Mac mini and to a Linux-based MythTV machine) and wireless (to a couple of 802.11g Airport expresses, a C2D Macbook using OSX Leopard and Windows XP, an iPhone and a Wii).
Everything on the LAN is happy, gets a unique IP address, can see the other devices, and can see the USB hard drives that are connected to the TC.
The weird behaviour comes when things try to actually connect to the internet.
Anything that connects via ethernet to the TC works perfectly. Connecting wirelessly however doesn't work properly - but not in a simple binary working/not-working manner...
If I connect wirelessly, I can do any of the usual network diagnostic things - e.g. Ping, Traceroute, etc. and data gets through and back, using IP address or actual site names.
I can download mail (via the standard Mail application, v3.5, from Gmail using IMAP)
I can even load secure webpages (i.e. those that use https, such as https://mail.google.com)
What I CANNOT do however is load any "normal" webpages (e.g. http://mail.google.com)
When loading a webpage, there is a brief period of data transfer (e.g. Camino reports "looking up ...", "connecting to ...", "waiting for ...") and then it just stops, and eventually the browser times out.
Other problems that people have reported have been solved by changing the DNS servers used - either to specify their ISP ones directly, or to use something like OpenDNS. My problem doesn't seem to be related to the DNS servers - to my mind, this sounds like some kind of outgoing port-blocking, but there ain't no such beastie on the TC as far as I'm aware, and since it is only happening on any device that connects wirelessly I'm pretty confident that I can rule out any local settings on a particular machine, or any settings on the modem.
I've tried several things to try and fix this, as follows:
    Reset TC and modem
Factory-reset TC and set up again
Downgrade TC to 7.3.1 and set up again
Re-upgrade TC to 7.3.2 and set up again
Remove all wireless security (usually use WPA/WPA2 Personal)
Change wireless mode from 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) to 802.11n only (2.4GHz)
Change wireless mode from 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) to 802.11n only (5GHz)
Change wireless channel (Automatic, 6, 11)
Obviously none of that worked, so can anyone think of anything else that I can try and change to get this working?
For what it's worth, everything was happy until Thursday last week (11th Dec) and the only thing that I changed was an upgrade to Safari on the Mac mini, which seems extremely unlikely to have been responsible for causing such pain and anguish!
Thanks for bearing with me through all this - hopefully I've covered off all of the basics already, but I'm now not sure where that leaves me...
    Cheers!

Something somehow fixed the problem a couple of days after my post - although I didn't know what triggered it (like I don't know what triggered the failure). I changed my set-up so that the Time Capsule was just a wireless bridge, and used the DG632 as the router and DHCP server - and obviously something worked OK.
Unfortunately the same problem happened again the day before yesterday, and after roping in the help of my ISP I determined that there wasn't a problem with the connection outside my LAN, so it was obviously something weird with my set-up.
After much frustration, rebooting, resetting, and fiddling, I spotted that occasionally a small burst of data would be received - perhaps enough to load an icon or small image - before everything froze up. On a hunch, I started playing with the MTU - and glory be! After the MTU is reduced from the default/automatic 1500 to 1458 everything works perfectly... except the Time Capsule no longer shows up!!! ARGH!!
I don't even recall ever seeing an MTU setting on the Time Capsule, and there definitely isn't one on the DG632 (don't most recent devices not require MTU tweaks? They just pass on the whole packet as-is?) so I've got no idea how to get around this issue now.
So much for stuff just working

  • Time capsule internet connection

    hi all,
i recently installed a TC to my thompson wife dsl modem. so at this stage i have three networks visible, 2.44ghz, 5ghz from my TC and the original signal from the wifi modem (the isp gave me). when i cannect the ipad, laptop etc to the TC the internet connect seems very slow compared to when i connect to the modem. from the details i see that the TC has a 144 mbps connection and the wifi modem at 100 mbps. so theoretically the TC should have a better wifi connection, but NO. the wifi modem seems to perform better ;-(( videos on youtube take ages to load when connected to the TC.
can you please help me to see what am i Doing wrong? is there a particlar setting i need to change from airport utility?
your help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks and regards
    aldo

Check the following setting using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Make sure that the setting for Connection Sharing is set to "Off (Bridge Mode"
    Update to save any changes
    Please post on your findings.

  • Time Capsule Internet connection issues??

I just got a new time capsule and it works great with my computer. Im trying to connect another computer to it and it connects to the wireless but says it is not assigned an IP address so it wont go online. But i know that the TC has connectivity because i'm using it with my other computer. Please Help! probably something easy..

If you don't have full admin access to the computer then there is nothing much you can do about anything.
If your connection is not "home" then the firewall can block you..
I did ask the question.. do you get internet ok before you turn on the VPN?? If so as per Tesserax comment.. it is a setting in the VPN. And it sounds like there is nothing you can do about it anyway. If you cannot get internet no matter if the vpn is on or off.. then the computers firewall is blocking you. Turn off the firewall if you have sufficient privileges to do so.. otherwise.. put the Asus back and bridge the TC to it. There is nothing wrong with that setup.. !!
As a general piece of advice should I just keep my former Asus router and use the TC for backup only, or can this be fixed and is it a better router?
Since you have not given us specifics for the Asus we cannot offer any opinion on its comparative worth vs the TC. But Apple routers are great for Apple networks.. they are much less good for PC networking.. especially things like upnp are missing. The best is what works. If it doesn't work and you don't have admin access on the PC.. then for now, you are better returning to the setup that works.

  • Time Capsule Not connecting to internet

Hello. So recently I received a new iMac for Christmas and knowing that my wireless network is setup with MAC address filtering, I used my working laptop to connect to both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to add the iMac to the network. That worked and my iMac has been able to connect to the network no problem.
Let me explain what my network setup is before I tell about the problem:
I have the latest generation Airport Extreme (Dual Band II) and a first generation Time Capsule (1TB).
The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet by cable modem and the Airport is the main router sharing a single IP address.
I connected the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme through Ethernet and set it up automatically with Airport Utility to extend over ethernet.
Now up untill now, I had no problems but since I got my iMac, I haven't been able to ever get a list of the Airport devices connected to the network, while connected to the Time Capsule, however, when connected to the Airport Extreme 5GHz network, I'm having no problems.
And today, the Time Capsule wouldn't connect to the internet over wifi, and all other devices wouldn't either. Of course, I tried to connect to the base station, but Airport Utility wouldn't display any devices connected. This happened with my MacBook as well.
Since connecting to the 5GHz network from the Airport Extreme, I have no problems with internet or Airport Utility. After a while though, the Time Capsule connected to the internet again.
Would someone shed some light on the situation?

I normally use the manual setup mode so I'm not sure what exactly is the end-state when choosing to extend a wireless network with the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet.
I am guessing that the AirPort Utility configured the TC as a bridge to allow the AEBSn to still provide both NAT & DHCP services for all wired or wireless clients connected to either router.
Let's start by double-checking some settings on your TC. Please provide the following TC settings from the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Time Capsule > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode = ?
o Allow this network to be extended = checked or unchecked?
    o Radio Mode = ?
    o Radio Channel Selection = ?
    Time Capsule > Access Control
    o MAC Address Access Control = ?
    Internet > Internet Connection
    o Connect Using = ?
    o Connection Sharing = ?
    Internet > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4 = ?

  • My Time Capsule WiFi connection and internet connection issue

My Time Capsule WiFi connection to other devices works fine, but for some reason it can not connect to the internet only when "it feels like it",it will go in and out showing that its connect (green dot on airport utilities) then literaly the next second it disconnected (showing a yellow dot on airport utility) and it does that continuesly sometimes it stops doing for a couple of hours. I basically did every thing like reseting it, unplugging wait for what ever time, and it still does the same thing. i do have ethernet cable connect to the Time Capsule. Also sometimes my airport utilities say it cant find my Time Capsule (rarely) . So obviously i dont have a clue whats going on. PLEASE HELP

You have an issue with the local network. Pings to your local network device should be in the order of 5-10ms tops..
Look at your first line.. 2293ms that is over 2sec for the local router to respond.. but it is likely that little box that is the problem. You will get some websites simply time out if they take that long to respond.
Let me recommend you either get some help from ATT or get a local technician to fix it. There are other better ways to connect things.. in the end getting it cabled with ethernet is the best. Buy a long long ethernet cable if you want to have a test.. so you can plug the TC into the modem. Bypass the HPNA over cable slug.

  • I can't get my airport time capsule to connect to the internet

I can't get my new airport time capsule to connect to the internet. It works fine with my linksys router

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

  • Internet connection slows down after a while

I have a wrt160n connected to an arris cable modem.  When I set it up it works fine - after a period of hours the internet connection slows down a lot.  If I then connect my computer directly to the modem it is is fast again.  But to get the signal to the router working fast again I have to reset the modem and power cycle the router.  Is there a conflict - is my router rationing access or what?

You should download and upgrade/flash your router's firmware...
    Download the Firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...

Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Help! Time Capsule not connected to the Internet

    Hi everyone!
I have this problem, and hope someone can help me.
In my house I have this network
Modem/Router Netgear DGN2200 connected via ethernet to Airport Express.
Airport Express is set to create a wireless network, bridge mode.
In the house I also have a Time Capsule set to extend the wireless network, bridge mode.
Time Capsule is connected via ethernet to my TV decoder to have extra services through the Internet.
Ok. All worked fine until a couple of days ago.
Then, I didn't change anything but Time Capsule (and so the TV decoder) seems to have no acces to the Internet anymore.
But Time Capsule is still available on the local network, so I can access to it, make backups and so on.
    What should I do?!
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English.
    Matteo

Did you try a simple reboot of the network devices.. turn off all the network stuff..
    Restart in correct order..
    1. Modem.. wait 2 min.
    2. Express.. wait 2min.
    3. TC.. wait 2min.
Then try the TV.. if it doesn't work reset both the express and TC to factory.. and redo the setup.. you had them setup correctly but please use SMB names.. since the TV will not talk apple.. SMB names are short.. 2-20 characters.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
so for example the name of the Express.. AEx Name of the TC.. TC1
    Name for wireless. Aex24ghz
Use a different name for 5ghz if your Express is a dual band latest model. Aex5ghz
Use fixed channel so that it is locked.. eg. 2.4ghz on channel 11 5ghz on channel 40.
The TC will follow the wireless exactly.
    See how you go.
