After installing update for Pages 5.0.1 documents won't open

Hi,
Was running Pages 4.3 on Maverrick 10.9.1
I got a notification that an update was available. I clicked to update the application. Pages 5.0.1 was installed. It launches. It seems I can create new documents as well.
However, I’m unable to open my previous documents. Moreover, I can’t seem to open them with the old Pages version (4.3) either. When I right-click the icon in the dock, the old documents that were open when the update occurs are listed. But I can’t get them on screen.
Is there a cache to clear? Shall I restart? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

That message means that you have to restore the iOS software because something went wrong. Follow the instructions here. I hope that you have a backup.

Can you see Reader 9 inside Applications folder? If yes, then launch Reader and then try to open any pdf via File->Open or drag drop on Reader icon in the doc.
In case you dont find Reader 9 in your Applications folder then you can download and install the latest Reader from the following link: http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

ITunes won't open after installing update for 10.4

I updated my iTunes to the most recent version and restarted my computer. When my computer turned back on, I tried to open iTunes but it just keeps giving me the "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly" message and asks me to either ignore report or relaunch. Every time I click relaunch, the message comes up again. My OS is Mac OSX Version 10.5.8. Anyone know what to do?

b noir - i have been following your advice and i want to thank you for taking your time to try and solve these problems for ipod users.
i have been following this message board each day for the past week - ever since my iTunes stopped working. i have not yet seen anyone who is receiving the same error message as myself.
like most others, i downloaded the recent update for iTunes - since then, iTunes will not open. i have tried most of the other proposed solutions to no avail, such as downloading a stand-alone version of quicktime, making sure my msconfig start-up has the correct check marks, etc.
the iTunes set-up completes with no problem - i have tried installing by saving the file to my hard drive and then running and also by running the program straight from the download window. same results.
once i go to open iTunes, i receive the following error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Then I click "Send Error Report" just hoping I will receive a required update to make this work.
i was wondering if you could attempt to help me resolve this issue? i have my music saved to my external hard drive, so i am in no danger of losing my music. however, i need to open iTunes to update my iPod.

After installing updates to Pages, Numbers, still old versions listed

I have recently successfully installed Mavericks 10.9.1. At Apple's suggestion, i went to App Store and downloaded (and subsequently installed) updated version of Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc. However, when I open my Pages and my Numbers apps, the old version-numbers (Pages 09 4.3; Numbers 09 2.3) are still listed.
Pages appears to be upgraded since at least one feature touted in the new version is available. How do I verify that I have the new version? If I do not have the full version...? Nate

You have both.
The new versions are in your Applications folder.
The old versions are in your Applications/iWork folder.
To check which you have opened:
Menu > Pages (or Numbers/Keynote) > About Pages (or Numbers/Keynote)
Be warned: These are very much cut down versions of the iWork suite. In Pages 5's case with over 90+ features removed.

Installed updates for 9.4.1...couldn't open any pdfs after that

Yesterday I installed updates. I tried to open several pdfs and got the message: Acrobat failed to load its core
DLL. Today I went in and removed 9.4.1 and installed the 8.something version. I just want to let adobe know of
this problem and couldn't find any other way to contact them. So...if anyone has direct contact advice or where I can find
out if others have had this issue, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I have been running itunes on this PC for some time with no problems. After installing the most recent update, itunes crashes and won't open. I have tried running as administrator and have uninstalled all Apple software and did fresh installs. All to no avail. Here is my error information:

Entry point errors can often be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of. CoreMedia.dll is part of Apple Application Support.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

My Pages 5.5.2 document won't open in Pages 5.5.2

So I'm writing an essay and have been writing the essay on the same computer with the same pages from the start till now. Yesterday I tried to open my document to edit it, and it says "______.pages" can't be opened. Because of this, I decided to retype it by looking off of the old copy. Today when I tried to edit what I wrote it said the same thing as before. I looked up everything and could not find out the problem. Please help.

Thanks for that, will keep in mind for the future. Fortunately with my current files I was able to open them on my Macbook Pro so then exported them as a Pages 09 file and then they now open fine on my iMac. It only appears to be recently saved files that I am having problems with, files saved in older versions seem to open up fine. Does make you think twice before upgrading!!! Thanks for your help!

After installing update for mavericks 10.9.3 my mac responds slowly, freezes and crashes, what can I do?

Istarted haveing these problems before but thought that something was wrong with my hard drive, everything checks out, I started having these problems when I upgraded to OS X Mavericks. nothing has worked right ever since that time, it's driving me crazy, maybe I should go back to windows, I hate that ideal!

Mail.app crashed after installing update for OSX 10.8.5.

When I open it it starts to import the mailboxes but crashes after about 10 minutes when about a quarter of the messages have been imported.

Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
In Finder, hold down the option/alt key while selecting Go from the Finder menu bar. Select Library. or select Go to Folder and paste in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Select Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

After software update for Lexmark printer, cannot print document as a file is missing. My iMac runs with Snow Leopard.

I have a Lexmark 3500 - 4500 series printer connected to my iMac via USB (as my iMac won't do the printing wirelessly. My iMac runs with Mac OS X, Snow Leopard, Version 10.6.8.
A few days ago, there were several software updates that I have installed as there was mention that they were for Mac OS X Lion.
Today, I tried to print a document, and it failed. The error message was: "Missing component: /Library/Printers/Lexmark/Drivers/.Resources/3500-4500 Series Color 2.lut".
I have re-installed the software from Lexmark without success.
Has anyone had a similar issue who can advise me, please?

Have you tried installing the Lexmark software from the Apple site:
Lexmark Printer Drivers v2.4 for Mac OS X v10.6
You are running 10.6 which the above link is for, maybe Lion (10.7) doesn't need everything that 10.6 does. Try re-installing using the above link.

After install update 10.1.1 in FCPX, I can NOT open the software... please help!!

Double tap the Home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar...tap & hold any app until they all start to wiggle...tap the red minus sign to remove every app shown. Tap the Home button when finished. Try to delete the app now.

The stand-alone Java Swing applications, that don't display their GUI elements after installing this update, have been written according to modern standards. With Oracle Java7, and with Java6 from Apple prior to this update, they run absolutely flawlessly.
This is absolutely Apple's fault.

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.
