After installing XSAN - HDV no longer Recognized...

Hey - what's the deal with this!?
Since installing XSAN, 10.4.8 and the latest fcp version
HDV suddenly is unrecognizable by either G5 system here -
tried a camera, a deck - different cables...rebooted, reset - you name it - FCP no longer acknowledges any HDV input device. Switch the HDV devices to DV devices and it will recognize them as their DV selves... just not HDV.
Any ideas?

i'm surprised that my computer, or myself, haven't been thrown out the window yet.
if the re-install doesn't work; i guess i'll just have to transfer video from iMovie to FCP. that will be fun! ;P
and the ironic part of all this is...the only reason i went ahead w/the crossgrade, and then 5.1.2, was so i could finally shoot/capture 24f ftg. w/my XL H1.

All of the iWork 09 apps work for me with Yosemite. Try the following:
1 - delete all files with iWork in the file name from your User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete all files with iWork in the file name from your User/Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder.
3 - delete all items (files or folders) with iWork in the name from your User/Home/Library/Caches folder.
4 - reboot and try the iWork apps again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. This will also work for Mavericks and Yosemite.
For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

Is that with the camera directly connected or with the card in a card reader?
I haven't tried in a while, but I know it worked in Lion at some point. I did all my uploading with a card reader, so that may be the difference.

After installing iTunes, Flash no longer exports .MOV format...

Hi -
I have been using Flash 8 to do animated titling for my podcasts.
But after installing iTunes 7, Flash 8 will no longer export .MOV format. It tells me a Quicktime compenent cannot be found.
Also, QuickTime Pro will not actually play Flash .SWF files. Not sure if this worked before, I never tried it. But it seems to be a QuickTime feature that doesn't work on my machine.

I really need to export my Flash animations to .MOV format. It's part of my work scheme. Workarounds cause loss of quality.

Recent security issues has had QuickTime 7.1.3 Player set Flash (inside .mov files) to "disabled".
Any user can re-enable Flash inside .mov files by checking a box in the QuickTime Control Panel (PC) or System Preferences (Mac).
QuickTime Player uses a much older version of Flash and only allows those "published" as version 5, or lower, be used.
The security issues are real. The solution for those of us that use Flash (.swf) inside our QuickTime content is more complex.
If a solution isn't reached between Apple and Adobe about a more modern use of Flash inside QuickTime files I plan on adding a text description (on my Web pages) for the steps to re-enable Flash functionality in my QuickTime files that use Flash.

After installing update takes much longer to go to sleep

After I installed the latest security update (2005-08) I noticed that my powerbook takes much longer now to go to sleep. In fact it can now take somewhere around 30 seconds to finally show me the blinking eye (or whatever that is called). Before the update, it went to sleep in just a few seconds, it never took that long. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
This is a powerbook G4 with 10.4.2.

After installing Chromecast, Firefox no longer does PDFs or Flash

Almost immediately after using Chromecast for the first time, I noticed that Firefox had lost some of its most important functions. 
For instance, it no longer displays PDFs. When I click on a PDF, nothing happens for about two minutes. Then, a box appears, labeled “ENU” at the top. Inside the box it says “Adobe PDF Document” with a place to click “OK.” When I click on the OK, nothing happens. 
With Flash, the Flash plug-in crashes anytime I try to use it in Firefox, for example, when I try to watch a PBS video online. 
Also, there is a black bar at the upper right of the Firefox window where the Microsoft controls (minimize, resize, close) should be. Even rebooting the computer does not make them come back. When trying to minimize Firefox, I could be closing it instead. 
I can't believe this is an accident. It's too much of a coincidence that Firefox's display and streaming capabilities stop working when a rival browser company's software is installed. 
Is there a fix for this yet, or do I have to uninstall Chromecast?

I haven't installed a Chromecast so I don't know what the installer might do to your system settings or graphics drivers. I also have no idea whether uninstalling will undo that. You might want to search around first and see if you can find more information.

Have an old MBP. Just installed lion on it today. Previously, the computer had no password (at login, I would just hit enter so essentially the password was nothing). After installing Lion, that no longer works, and now I can't get into my computer. Help!

It's not uncommon for some people to have a "blank" password, I did that for years. Apparently Lion has a problem with blank passwords.

Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver. See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

try a reset of iPhone and then a restore,best, as new and if it then functions correctly try restoring with your backup

Looks like the Silicon Image drivers were moved to the incompatible software folder during install/upgrade.
Downloaded latest drivers, errored out of install claiming that the drivers were from an unknown author!!!
Emailed their tech support this evening describing problem.

After security patch 03/04/2014 OSX 10.7.5, first one, then a second, external backup drive no longer recognized. Diagnostics for the FireWire one displays brand name of unit, but Time Machine and its own app don't see it. Where do I start?

Yesterday I installed the security patch, OSX 10.7.5 to my IMac that is about 2 years old.
Today my Seagate BackupPlus for Mac will power on but is not recognized. It does not show up as a device, Time Machine says the latest backup was DELAYED, last successful at 03/04/2014 9:35 PM (yesterday) and next backup would begin when the disk was connected. An error message I did not save said basically the drive was not recognized.   I did all drive's troubleshooting steps, including installing a newer version of their app. I tried swapping USB for FireWire, changing electrical outlets, etc.
It seems a bit coincidental to have 2 drives "fail" simultaneously. Is anyone else having this issue after this security patch? What would be the approach from the Mac side? TIA for any assistance.
Please see below regarding the second drive. Is this a red herring, or does it help pinpoint where the failure might lie?
I also have a Seagate GoFlex that WAS recognized until I did the troubleshooting on the other drive. When I put it back on after testing the other drive with FireWire, it now is no longer recognized.

Thirdly, in after one of the testing/reboot loops, the HP WiFi printer was no longer recognized, but after a few more it came back.

I have a similar problem.
Moreover, as my external drive is split in 2 for (a) regular storage // (b) time machine usage, I can see in the Finder that I can connect to the (a) regular storage part and use it normally (image 1).
And I cannot connect to the backup part in Finder , nor see it in Disk Utility, nor use it in Time Machine (although it's listed in the Time Machine preferences, image 2), as it does not connect (image 3).
Can somebody help?

After installing iPhoto '08, I can no longer synch my iphoto library to my ipod. It comes up with a cryptic error message that says "an unknown error occurred" and lists it as -50.
I have done a FULL RESTORE on my ipod and got the same error immediately upon trying to synch the iphoto instead of a directory (gets the error after pressing the apply button in itunes).

I'm not much help here, but I've had a similar (but slightly different) problem. I have my iPhoto library on an external drive. After installing iPhoto '08, iTunes no longer recognized my iPhoto library, and it won't let me select it. I had over 10,000 photos synced with my iPod. Now I have none.

Hi,
my iPad is no longer recognized by any computer after the 4.2.1 update. It does not show up in iTunes and this even in recovery mode. When connected to charger it does not show that it would charge (but it does). The iPad is still usable except in the iPod app is says "cancelling sync" and does not show any music.
I already reinstalled iTunes, reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service, used different computers with different OS version, but it does not show up, not even in the system profiler (USB tab).
Any idea what I should do? I mean it is quite unlikely that there is a hardware issue as the problems appeared right after the 4.2.1 update (from 4.2).

Yes I know, I already reset like 100 times. Turned off-on...
I guess a recovery could solve the problem, but how do it if the iPad does not even appear in iTunes. I guess it is somewhat stuck in "cancelling sync" and therefore will not accept an USB connection (the USB port behaves like it is deactivated).
