After Installing Yosemite my iMac is unuseable
I have a late 2009 iMc 27inch, 3.06Hz Intel 2 Duo, 12GB RAM,
My computer was working fine until I installed Yosemite. It now cannot perform any task without freezing for 10 to 30 seconds, sometimes longer. Boot time is much slower, as is log in. I have no start up programs running that I can see, and the Activity monitor is showing nothing is being used. Yet if I try and launch anything the system freezes.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks for replying
OK this is what i get (i opened 1 line, hence all the numbers)
this was just from safari i opened it, went to the bbd website selected 2 random links then it froze for a minute. And the system continues to do that with any applications. . it gives you about 20 seconds or so of use and then freezes.

Unable to update iPhoto after installing yosemite on iMac
recently installed yosemite OS, but cannot open iPhoto without update and cannot find update.
Its been like this for 2 hours...
It may be hanging, because you are running out of storage - do you have at least 10GB of fee disk space?
Or something is interfering with your connection to the App Store - anti virus software, a firewall. If you have any such software running, restart yor mac in Safe Mode and try reinstalling in this mode: Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
If that does not help either, ask in the App Store forum. -
I have downloaded Yosemite from the App store and I attempted to upgrade from OS X 10.9.5. It is stuck on a white screen with a moveable mouse pointer but that is it. I can't get Command + L to work, so I can see any progress that is being made and I have tried to force boot it twice. Each time I force boot the machine I get a progress bar that goes about half way across and then just a blank white screen. I have read on some blogs that patience is the best procedure for this freeze but I have been waiting for almost 36 hours now and nothing is happening. One thing I want to mention is I have VMWare installed with a virtual machine of 300gigs, could this be the cause of the hangup? My 27inch IMAC is about 3 or 4 years old with a terabyte hard drive and 32gigs of ram. I have unplugged everything from the back except the network cable. Is about 36 hours reasonable for an upgrade? Is there a way to cut my losses and revert back to OS X 10.9.5?
When you start your notebook press F8 to enter Advanced boot options.
Is Repair my computer option available?
If yes choose it and press ENTER. Follow the menu on the screen and when you will see System recovery options try to use System Restore option.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not install OS again using HDD recovery option and after 2 hours you will have clean preinstalled OS and everything will be OK again. -

Occasionally flickering iMac screen after installing Yosemite
Occasionally flickering iMac ()intel) screen after installing Yosemite. Cannot yet specify when the flickering occurs, but it cover large sections of the screen. Absolutely annoying.
I also have this issue but only below 6 screen illumination steps (bars)
This flickering issue is active after waking up from sleep os screen sleep and if I increase the screen light to a setting higher than 6 screen step for a wile (30 seconds or so) and the reduce the light to a level below 6 steps it usually holds on without flickering.
This happens on an late 2009 iMac with nvidia card running OS X 10.10 and apple later upgrades but not (until now) on another same age and OS X version iMac I have but instead of the nvidia card it has an ATI
Question:
Has anyone tried to use the Mavericks nvidia graphic card driver with Yosemite? -
2009 iMac is running slowly after installing Yosemite
Dear Community -
I recently "upgraded" my OS to Yosemite ... unfortunately I had not gone to Mavericks in the meantime, so there's no way for me to re-install it.
Any suggestions for how to rescue my iMac from being a brick?
EtreCheck report is below ...
Thanks!
Scott

Since installing Yosemite, my iMac isn't saving Notification preferences.
Since installing Yosemite, my iMac isn't saving Notification preferences. I know it's an issue, because I've seen it in other forums. Any help?
Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
5. Close the Terminal app.
6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this. -

EVERYTHING - Safari, QuickTime, MS Word for Apple, the DVD Player, everything - runs slowly and I get the "rainbow pinwheel of frustration". It's taken me three minutes to type these few sentences. It's really starting to frustrate me. Here is my EtreCheck report:
Problem description:
Since I installed the latest Yosemite update (10.10.2), EVERYTHING runs slowly. I get the rainbow pinwheel whenever I click on anything on Safari, and have trouble typing via Safari; videos stop and start on QuickTime; MS Word for Apple runs slowly - EVERYTHING seems to be slowed down. It took four minutes to get the above sentences typed. Please help me escape the “rainbow pinwheel of failure”!

IPhoto not working after installing Yosemite
After installing Yosemite the iPhoto icon on the dock has a circle/line symbol superimposed. Get a message saying iPhoto needs to be updated, but when I try to update I get "Update unavailable for this Apple ID." (I have used my current Apple ID at least since 2011, and have used it to update iPhoto previously.)
Right, App Store Support solved my problem.(iPhoto & iMovie were packaged with my iMac when I bought it. Upgrading from Mountain Lion to Yosemite wiped that out, and these apps did not show up in my purchased list. This would not have happened if Maverick had been installed prior to Yosemite.)

Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite
Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite. This is not good. Apparently, a lot of people are having this issue with Yosemite. Any suggestions for my MacBook Pro? It's bad enough that Yosemite looks so boring, but to have a major issue like constantly disconnecting from wifi is deplorable.
I plan to keep Mavericks on my iMac until this issue is resolved.Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity

Volume quit working after installing Yosemite.
After installing Yosemite on my new macbook pro I noticed that my volume controls didn't work on the keyboard and were "grayed" out on the task bar and in system preferences and unusable. I restarted the computer and they came back on. Now I notice that many times when I start the computer it happens again and can only be fixed by restarting the computer again. Any suggestions?

Numbers runs very slowly after installing Yosemite ?
iMac (20-inch, Early 2008)
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
After installing Yosemite, all my Numbers spreadsheets respond only very slowly (e.g several seconds to click open a cell or scroll to a new line).
I have updated to OS X 10.10.2 with no improvement. Has anyone else had this? Can anybody tell me how to fix it?I have stumbled on the apparent solution to the slow Numbers issue. When I upgraded old Numbers files to the latest issue of software, and opened them from the hard drive (instead of via the original dock icon) everything worked normally, and the new dock icon [ 3.5.2 (2118) ] remained in the dock when I dropped the old one into the Trash (removing it from the dock). Incidentally, I noticed that for each Numbers file that I upgraded, the file size was roughly doubled.
Being a non-technical user I was a bit surprised that the upgrade to Yosemite didn't take care of this sort of issue, but perhaps there's someone in the community who can enlighten me ? -
My home network is broken after installing Yosemite
I have an iMac (early 2010), a Macbook Pro (early 2011) and a PC running Windows 7.
After installing Yosemite on both my Macs, all home network operations between the apple devices has gone south. Browsing folder on remote computer, transferring files between the computers - either via finder or through shared libraries on iTunes - everything is now crawling or simply stuck.
I thought my router may be the problem, but the Windows machine is working just fine when copying files to and from a Mac device.
Any solutions out there please?I have an iMac (early 2010), a Macbook Pro (early 2011) and a PC running Windows 7.
