After it's first charge, does the battery need to be completely empty

I bought an iPhone4 today, and was told to use the phone and let the battery completely run out prior to it's 1st charge.
However, on turning it on, it has 3/4 full battery and says I need to connect it to iTunes before I can use it, unless I want to make an emergency call.
I don't want to ruin the full capacity, but then I don't want to find that I'm still waiting for the battery to die in 3 days!
What can I do?

Ignore what you were told. The iPhone battery has no memory effect, charge whenever you like. You cannot overcharge, as charging automatically stops when your battery is full. Read more here:

My daughter has the same MBP I have.
If I calibrate the battery on my MBP can I swap it with hers? Will it still be calibrated?
    Thanks ... Ken

It can be calibrated in either machine. The calibration circuitry is in the battery, not the computer.

  • Why does the battery need to be recharged so often?

My iPod is brand new and need recharging every other day.

I have been using it every day. Would the battery need to be replaced?
    No.

  • Battery drained while computer in use.  Plugged in and computer will not turn on.  Does the battery need to reach a certain charge level first?  Battery is 3 months old.

The battery drained while using the computor so we pluged it in but computor will still not fully turn on.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Hold the Power button for about 5 seconds to turn off the Mac (it may be turned on), and then, press it again. If it doesn't work, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If nothing works, take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get your computer repaired. Also, if you have its charger connected to the computer, is the charger light turned on?

  • Nokia 6070 - First charging of the battery

Hi, does anyone know if I have to first-charge the battery for 16 hours or is 2 hours (or what it takes to fully charge it) enough? I don't wanna under-charge it, but also not over-charge it, because I hear it's not good for the battery if you leave it charging for too long.

All new batteries are made in a state that allows a long shelf life, to "kick" start the battery you need to charge it, with the phone off preferably, for at least 12 hours before using the phone. Then let it go flat before charging again for nother 12 hours. If you don't do this then the battery may not acheive maximum capacity.

  • HT4623 Hi!My iPAD lost its charge fast !!I've got an iPAD capacity 57,1GB and it has available 55,1GB ,version 7.0.4 .I'd like to know how long does the battery last when it is 100 % charged.

Hi!I've just installed the iOS 7.0.4 operating system and the battery lost its charge at an incredibly speed.I'd like to know how long does the battery last if everything is right when it has 100% charge. Thanks!

I`m `propping` up this thread to to the top of the forums again as it`s been three months and not a single community member or Apple support personnel have replied, which I find discouraging.
I`ve tried everything - both the iOS device(s) and Apple TV have been upgraded (albeit reluctantly) to the latest versions, since iOS 7 looks like crap compared to iOS 6. Both use the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is set to `off`, as per the online tutorials on the Apple Support page.
I also tried shutting all of them down, including the router, waiting 30 seconds and turning the router, then the Apple TV then the iOS device on sequentially with 30 seconds in between each, again as per this discussion forum, and still nothing.
Why can Apple not make a technology, such as AirPlay, work with greater than 10%?
    Any other ideas?
    Come on, people.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Does keeping a macbook pro plugged in even when fully charged damage the battery in any way?

Does keeping a macbook pro plugged in even when fully charged damage the battery?

no it will not, your battery stops charging when it reaches 100%.  you can verify this if you'd like to through system report - power.
once in a while however, it's best to use it under it's own power and charge it back up once it's down to 75% to keep the battery in optimal condition.

  • Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged?

Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged? or does it continue charging? In which case,is it better for the battery life to switch off the power supply or leave it on while using the macbook?

Yes, and the pilot light on the MagSafe2 connector changes from orange to green. If you unplug, you will start draining the battery again, whereas if plugged the Mac will take power from the brick and leave the battery in a charged state.

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iPod show that my battery is receiving energy and that it is "charging," but it doesn't actually charge. The battery never increases; it only decreases. Even when I have it physically plugged in and charging, it loses battery whenever I am using an APp

My iPod shows that my battery is receiving energy and that it is "charging," but it doesn't actually charge. The battery never increases; it only decreases. Even when I have it physically plugged in and charging, it loses battery whenever I am using an APP or anything. I'm thinking that the chip that receives the energy is damaged or worn out. Is there anyway to fix it without going to the store? My USB chords is fine. It charges other iPods fine. Including a second generation iPod which means my 4th generation iPod should not have an physical battery problem. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • HT1490 When my macbook is fully charged, does the charger switch the power supply off, or does it continue to 'charge'?

When my macbook is fully charged, does the charger switch the power supply off, or does it continue to 'charge'?
(If I leave my laptop to charge whilst I'm out and it reaches 'fully charged' but is still switched on, will this continue to 'charge' my laptop? Or will it destroy my batter over time?)

When the charge cycle completes, the pilot light on the MagSafe connector changes from orange to green. At that point the battery will be kept in standby mode, and the computer will be kept running with electrical power from the charger. If you want to keep an eye of where the power is coming from, get the latest release of the Coconut Battery utility: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/

  • HT1476 why does the battery usage percentage not available in ios5.1.1???

why does the battery usage percentage not available in ios5.1.1???
and why is clock not available on ipad????

Because that is a decision the Apple made.  You can get the battery percentage (within 5%)  by using a free app such as BatteryLife Lite, but it will not show the percentage on the top of your screen.

  • HT1476 when is it best to charge the battery, when it is completly dead, almost dead or at any time you want a full chargre?

When is it best to charge your battery for and Ipot touch 4th generation? when it is completly dead, almost dead, or any time you want full charge.

Letting the battery completly drain is not that good. Otherwise, just charge when you want.
