After iTunes 11.1 (126) Update - (iTunes) permissions won't repair?
After the new iTunes 11.1 (126) update, not only was I disappointed that COVER-FLOW hadn't been reinstated (we knew that), I had the the little inconvenience of the wrong tracks playing when a specific track, or album, had been selected. For example, the new "Drenge" album was selected, but what was played was mix of Bob Dylan's "Desire" and Nirvana's "In Utero". I tried a few others and found that the new iTunes was sluggish and froze for short periods. When I tried to close it down a permanent freeze of the application occurred.
Initially, I tried to remedy the problem by using "The Disk Utility" to do a disk repair. There was no need as the disk was fine, but the disk permissions, which were all fine prior to the iTunes update, were said to be repaired.
However, when I tried to us iTune again the same problems occurred.
I did another few permissions repair and found the same list of permissions were not repaired, all iTunes. (I have a copy of the list).
I have an iMac (Mid 2011 version) which is running OS X 10.8.5 (12F37). I don't think that this is too old to be out of date, and has been running without a problem until the latest iTunes update.
I reported this to iTunes support last week, They e-mail me back to say that I should contact Apple Support UK and would be charged for the pleasure of having support correcting the problem! HUH!
To say that I was annoyed and upset was a little understated.
I then uninstalled iTunes with "CleanMyMac" and reloaded a fresh iTunes 11.1 (126) from the Apple UK website.
The inconvenience of reloading my entire iTunes Library, was a small price to pay for a fully functional iTunes. BUT, after doing so, I was extremely annoyed to find that my newly installed iTunes 11.1 (126) just refuses to repair and the disk permissions refuse to repair.
iTunes contacted me again to say that they to were confused as to why this continues to be problematic? They suggested I do a disk partitioning and a reload of my entire Mac.
I have spoken to the independent company that services all our Mac products and they suggested that a full clean install is more than likely to be the only solution.
Before I do this,… are there any other suggestions as to how I can resolve this??
Any suggestion will be most welcome.
Still, a very loyal Mac user!
(Well, the loyalty is being tested to the limit at the moment).
I would either try the iTunes forum or the Mavericks forum

10.6 permissions won't repair. What to do ?
I tried to repair permissions and it went a little way, repairing Javascript permissions, including the "blacklist", then it froze up and would not complete repairs.
What is the "blacklist"?
Can I just re-install Java ? Or do I have to install the entire OS over to correct this ?Hi Dave,
my repair procedure text is below. What concerned me was the freeze-up after it got through these.

FrontRow UNINSTALL question NOT answered. Permissions won't repair.
Get Quicktime and FrontRow OFF my computer permanently not just cluttering my desktop as advised in supposed "answered" question.
Permissions corrupt and wont repair accept with Techtool but then they just reappear re-corrupted when I restart!!.
Quicktime wont update OR trash, and I hate it.
Core or no core help me get them off.QuickTime is a component of Mac OS X that is built-in. You can't remove this technology from a computer running Mac OS X. You can delete Front Row, it has two parts:
/Applications/Front Row.app
/System/Library/Core Services/Front Row.app
It's not really clear to me exactly what your problem is, but deleting Front Row alone is probably not going to fix any trouble you're having. Maybe if you were a little more clear about your problem we could point you in the right direction.

Powerbook Won't boot - And disk permissions won't repair
My powerbook G4 won't boot normally or in safe mode but will load up using the leopard disk to instilation page. Once there the folowing issues become aparrent;
1. Not enough space to archive and install
2. Disk persmssions can't be verified or repared (the disk can be both verified and repaired and appears normal)Have waited overnight for this to complete and it hasn't.
3. Whilst it connects to networks it doesn't appear on them to allow data to be removed to make space
4. Attemting to use disk utility restore function to copy the hard disk onto a external hard drive fails (bar about 1/8 of the way across predictions stat at 1hr58 and reach 6 hours when the powerbook starts making a lot of noise nad the external hard drive activity appears to halt)
Any ideas on how to resolve this?Might be worth a shot trying to transfer in TDM, once booted from the install disk:

Permissions will not repair after update itunes 11.1
Permissions will not repair in Mountain Lion 10.8.5 after updating Itunes to version 11.1
These days it's quite normal to get a long list of 'errors' on doing a permissions repair because Disk Utility has not been upgraded to allow for some changes made to the system.
As long as at the bottom of the list it says 'Permissions repair complete' you can safely ignore them all.
More details, if you want them, here:

ARD "Beachballing" constantly after iTunes update
I installed the iTunes update that came out a couple of days ago and ever since I have had constant and continuous problems with ARD going BEACHBALL. It seems to work for a few seconds to minutes and then freeze up with the beachball. I have to do a forced quit of ARD but then, as soon as I open ARD it is back to the beachball. A restart of the computer does not help. Deleting all the ARD related plists does not do anything to eliminate the problem.
Prior to the update, I would get an ocassional beachball, maybe once in two or three weeks but now it is, at best, every few minutes I try to use it.
The system is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8 Server with 8 Gig RAM. Ard is 3.5.1 and clients are either 10.5.8 (PPC systems) or 10.6.8 Intel systems. It does not seem to matter which system I am trying to control or get a report or send a Unix command to. ARD just quits and beacballs. I have not found anything that I can tie into the freezing.
Attached are some of the Logs. If anyone has an idea of how to "deflate this beachball" I would be greatly apprecative.

18 MPEnteI just tried all the "standard" things. Repair Permissions on Server, Repair permissions on several clients then tried ARDing into these clients, Delete ARD and (almost) all of its associated plists, reinstall ARD and update to 3.51 which is where it was when the problem started. Did a repair disk but no problems were found, cleaned as many old files off the desktop, documents and download folders as I could, emptied the Trash, checked for updates on all programs and drivers not just the Apple Software Update, but also Firefox Chrome, Flip4Mac, Fetch, and every other third party program I could not remove because of them being used very often, trashed all third party programs I could afford to lose, permissions repairs again, Ran network test (Ping) from OS X 10.6.8 Server that hosts my ARD to several different clients to see if there may have been packets being dropped, ran Network tests from ARD reports with no problems.
I think that is about all the "standard" things other than deleting and re-installing the 10.6.X server and updating to 10.6.8 I just did not want to get into that particular can of worms since having the server off line for any significant time would cause other problems. (My backup server was dropped and relegated to being used for testing Lion (That was a mess till 10.7.2 was released!). The things listed are not necessarily in order since I can't recall exactly what the order was.
Like I said, during the time all these things were being done, ARD would go into "Beachball Mode" with no discernable evidence of why.
One thing I did try was to let ARD just sit for maybe a half-hour after being opened before actually tryiung to use it. At first I thought that was the cure, since it worked sort of Ok for a day but the next time I tried it, I was back to beachballing.
Even now I have to do frequent refreshs to try to get a current status whenever I do something to the clients since the status shown is not the actual status but at least the beachball seems to have bounced on down the road and is not showing up like it used to. -
After I installed the latest update, MSVCR80 was not installed and itunes will not work
After I installed the latest updat to itunes, it did not install properly. I received the following messages:
Service "Apple Mobile Devise (Apple Mobile Devise) failed to start. verify that you have sufficent privileges to start system services Abort, Retry, Ignore
Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)
When I click on the itunes icon, I get the following message:
The computer can not start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your compyter. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.I've revised my advice slightly...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall go to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above then search the computer for copies of the file QTMovieWin.dll - you should only have one copy in the relevant folder for your system.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (32-bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (62-bit Windows)
Delete any others and not only should this fix the problem, but prevent it from recuring on subsequent updates.

Any ideas on how to fix ipad after the new iOS 7 update? My battery will not charge, my ipad is hot to the touch, the iTunes Store won't open, and my messages on Facebook aren't showing up when I chat and pintrest won't pin to my boards.
If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go -
After iTunes upgrade, calendar and bookmarks no longer update during sync
After completing the most recent iTunes upgrade, my phone will complete a backup and seems to go through the sync process. However, the calendar items and bookmarks will not update with any changes that were applied in Outlook or Internet Explorer. Also, previously, I would receive a "syncing calendar" message (or something similar) during the process, and that no longer occurs.
same problem here after itunes 9.1 update. seems to be a common problem:

After iTunes 7.6 update, iPhone is not recognized by iTunes
I plugged in iPhone after iTunes update and a dialog box popped up that says "An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again."
Phone is 1.1.3 firmware (update earlier in week and all was working great).
I have wiped software, cleaned registry keys, and reinstalled iTunes on XP computer. I ran a restore process on the iPhone and bricked it. Installed iTunes on a backup Vista 64 Ultimate machine (iTunes works on this platform now, yay!) and restored the phone.
Still hosed on XP, however. This is happening to me too, but I have an iTouch though. I guess I will try to restore it on another computer if it worked for you.

My apple mail has an error message and won't open after iTunes update 6/20/14
I have a MacBook 13 Aluminum using Mountain Lion/MavericksX. Soon after I did a random update for iTunes mid June 2014 I noticed that I could no longer open my mail on my desktop. I did tell Apple about it when the error message came up, but I haven't heard anything and the last update 7/1/14 didn't help. I can use Entourage, but I like Apple mail better. Any ideas? Yow

I had all but given up on the Apple mail. Then I remembered that I hadn't checked it since my last X update yesterday. So, I tried and of course, APPL fixed it. Apple is so fantastic. Sorry but there is no problem to work on.Well I feel a bit silly about this. I gave up on Apple mail and was using Entourage. Yesterday I did the most recent update from APPL and hadn't checked to see if they'd come up with a fix. I'd written them to ask about it because the error occurred after the iTunes update so I figured there was a bug. I just opened it, and poof, apple mail again. It did go through something and dinged and opened. Thank you for writing me. Y

.Im trying to download the new itunes so i can use my iphone 5 , however , the new itunes requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later and i cant seem to install that onto my imac even after searching for the new update (my imac is currently on 10.5.8.
You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14). And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update. The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily. -
I am trying to open Itunes after an upgrade to itunes--it won't open and now says MSVCR80.dll is missimng. Where do I get this missing DLL. Also says Error 7 when trying to open (windows error 126)?? I am on Windows 7 if that matters.Help please
