That was not the case with iTunes 9.1.
I am not a mobileme subscriber. I think I register for try out period long time ago, but I am not a subscriber.
Now I cannot even log in to this account, even though I can change the password!?
It is quite frustrating not be able to sync to my Mac.
I deal with this problem for several days on many ways, but there seems no progress.

I just solved the same problem, syncing iPad with iTunes 9.2 and not-wanted mobileme login. It took me half an hour on the Apple phone support.
Safari > Reset Safari ... and Safari > Empty Cache ... did the thing ...

Try:

ITunes does not start when I connect iPad
Until about a month ago, everything worked perfectly. When I connected my iPad to my MacBook Pro, iTunes started automatically and then started the sync with my iPad, just as I had set it to do. About a month ago, however, iTunes would not start automatically. I have to manually start iTunes. Once I do, then everything syncs normally, no problem. I have checked, and the check box in iTunes is checked "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected." I tried a general reset of the settings on my iPad. Nothing changed. iTunes says it is the most current version (I just checked) and my iPad says it has the latest available iOS version.
Any suggestions? I can live with this like it is, but if there is a problem, I'd like to correct it before iOS 5 comes out.Thanks to all who replied. It turns out that, as you suggested, for some reason the iTunes Helper applet wasn't there. Did a reinstall, and now all works fine. So now I know that if I never have this problem again, that will be my first stop.
As for the other suggested that were made, these are all great suggestions and these are steps I had already taken in troubleshooting the problem. I didn't mention that, so I am glad to have this documented if anyone one else does a search and is looking for an answer. By all means, be sure you do what the other folks said first, and if they don't work, then go for the iTunes Helper applet. That did it for me. -
I tried upgrading to 7.0.2 on my iphone 4 but it wont come off of the connect to itunes screen...i even installed the upgrades for itunes on my computer and still nothing...

You need to place the device in recovery mode ...
f you can't remember the Passcode, you need to restore the device from the computer it was last synced with.
Instructions for putting the device in recovery mode > iOS: Unable to update or restore
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present -

That's usually a sign that your phone was hacked/jailbroken, and iTunes has detected such, errored out, preventing your phone from activating. Since Apple does not support hacking/jailbreaking, that's what happens, by design.

The number pad would not let me type in a 1 2 3 for my 4 digit code. After numerous tries, the phone now says iphone disabled connect to itunes. When I connected to itunes, it asked for the code which I was unable to enter. Help!
Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons on iPhone until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.

My iPhone 3gs is not working properly and hasn't been since about September of last year. When switched on (Quite often it won't even turn on) it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and just resets itself over and over until power is gone. Occasionally after switching on and off a few times it functions normally for a few hours and some times even a couple of days but eventually always turns itself off and goes back to the 'Update Completed' screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or a way of fixing it?

A student's iPad is managed by Meraki and the student acccidently disabled it. Now when I connect to itunes on my Mac, it says that the iPad has a passcode. But, you can not enter or do anything on the iPad since it is disabled. I also tried in Meraki to erase the device or clear the passcode, but it only goes into a Pending queue. Any help?

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
