After itunes software update on vista, itunes shuts down - any help?
After I update itunes, Windows says that it needs to shut down the application due to an unexpected error. Windows support says to repair itunes. I process the repair, then itunes shuts down "unexpectedly" again. Windows supports says to repair again. Same circle..... itunes never works. I am using Vista. Any thoughts?
I did this and it still gave me the microsoft error " itunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windos will close the program and notify you is a solution is available". same circle again.

I posted earlier about my problem but on the wrong forum. I'm new to this forum and I'm a new mac owner in desperate need of your help!!
Yesterday a few software updates needed to be installed so I did, they were minor- iTunes, iTunes Phone Driver, Microsoft Office, and a security update. I installed all the software with no problems until it wanted to restart. I let it do its thing, but after 10 or 15 minutes it would not boot up so I held down the power button and shut it off. It wasn't making any peculiar sounds except that after 10 minutes the crunching noise that the hard drive makes became sort of sporadic and lost consistency.
Since then I have rest the PRAM, ran disk utility off my OS X installation disk and repaired the disk and permissions all with no progress. The repairs came back "appears to be ok." I also ran the hardware test and the results, once again, came back "ok."
I've been reading through forums for the past day or so and haven't found anything quite like my situation. If someone could talk me through some other options to fix this, I would really appreciate it. I'm stumped and in a bit of a pickle. I really need my PB for school and am over 4 hours away from the nearest mac store.
Whoever reads this will cringe when I say I haven't backed anything up... I'm not worried about losing music or pictures or other documents but I am concerned about losing my apps- I'm an art major and I really need all my photoshop, illustrator, flash, etc... I don't have the original disks for those programs since the computer belonged to my mom who is a graphic designer and got those programs through her work.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me. You're a saint if you can offer any helpful advice.

Exactly what happens when you try to boot normally?
I'm wondering if you did a hard shutdown (last resort) in the middle of your PB installing/arranging tens of thousands of files, so now there is software and potentially firmware corruption (something like a brain surgeon sewing your head up only halfway through the operation).
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?
If you get the PB booted again, repair permissions (not from the install disc).
Run Software Update, but never let it install more than one update at a time, and repair permissions before and after each update. If you want to be safer yet, go to Apple Downloads and download the update from there, then install it. Enough people have reported issues using SU that I never install from there. Also, if you're really running 10.4.1, that should be your first order of business; you should update to 10.4.11.
If you have another Mac available to you, see if yours will boot into FireWire Target Disk Mode.
Now that you've learned about backing up, I'm sure you'll go out and buy a FireWire external HD, and if you get the PB working properly again, clone the PB's internal HD to the external. If you ever have software issues again, you can simply clone the latest backup back onto the PB's HD and be ready to go from that point. -

I just used software update to download about 7 updates. It finished downloading and I shut down the computer. (I don't believe restarts work as well as a full shut down). Starting Up and re-running software update reveals no updates were installed. I just wasted 20 minutes downloading them. I know they are on the computer somewhere. How do I find them and install them?

I think you have been misinformed. The restart(s) are a part of the installation, and turning off the computer may have an adverse effect on the process. A restart is a "warm" reboot. An off/on is a "cold" restart. In most cases this may not matter, in some it might.

It's not easy to say what happened to them.
If they were lost, you need to reinstall them properly.
You might try a safe boot to clear anything out first.
As an aside, I never install more than one update at a time, especially those that require a reboot. And never when one is firmware related.
I also use a manual combo download for all OS updates.
If the updates do not reappear as autoupdates again, then you can either search for the boms and remove them, or download the updates manually from the Apple site.
Before doing anything I strongly suggest running a permissions repair. -

You need to use Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off your device
2. Press the Home button and while holding it, connect your device to the computer
3. Keep the Home button pressed until you see the "Connect to iTunes screen"
4. Release the Home button and open iTunes on your computer
5. You will see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode". Use iTunes to recover your device.
You may need to repeat these steps several times.

Look, I have SERIOUS problems with my MacBook Pro, a computer that was given to me by Apple to replace a MacBook Pro that was defective from day one. Now this fabulous machine from Apple is totally messed up since the upgrade to Mavericks. I've talked with "Senior Advisors" until I'm blue in the face, but NOTHING fixes this machine. I live in rural Ireland, I cannot drive because I was in a coma at years ago (although I could drive if I had 10+ DUIs), I'm over two hours from the closest Apple Authorized Repair, I'm physical disablled and mobility impaired, and I'm terminallly ill. So from where I stand, I really don't have time to sit around and wait. It took Apple 11 months to sort out the problem with my original MacBook Pro; I don't HAVE 11 months to wait for this problem to be fixed, but I've been waiting now for over 2 months, and my death clock is ticking.
PLEASE HELP ME!!! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE BECAUSE I'M DYING!!! Now is that clear enough for you, Apple?

<Personal Information Edited by Host>Have you tried to erase your drive and reinstall the OS - you should use recoery (hold Command + R keys while restarting). Since the items in the menu bar are part of the system, a clean reinstall of the system should take care of it.

Can someone please help me! I installed the new itunes software onto my computer it shut down then when i tried to log back into my computer all of my documents and everything was gone! the only thing remaining was my recycle bin. but my documents etc are gone!

Are the files actually missing off the computer, if so, you have a serious computer issue... not a software update issue.
Regardless, use the backup of your media and other important files to put everything back. You do have a backup, correct? -

And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.
It would help to know versions here. I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed. Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago. If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses. Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

They are either locked to a carrier who may at some stage offer unlocking
or sold direct to a user by Apple (from their own Stores or online .)

I answered the same question in a similar post. It's all to do with the wireless sync.
I used the following method to stop iTunes from constantly restarting -
Open task manager
Select the 'Processes' tab.
Look for 'iTunesHelper.exe'
Select 'iTunesHelper.exe' then click on 'end process'

after finish software updates IOS 7 in my iphone 4s its showing connect to itunes after i connect with itunes its showing 40 hours remaining for update.
