After iTunes Update, Cannot Drag and Drop Music into iTunes
Any suggestions?
Windows 7 SP1, x64
iTunes... eh.. no idea what version. I've looked for about a half hour and I couldn't find it. Rather frustrating for a busy person like me to be dikin' around in iTunes looking for something simple like a version number.
Also, the new layout is kind of nice, but in many ways wretched and tedious. What I wouldn't give to just be able to drag and drop mp3s to my iPhone like my android friends can do.
Grumble Grumble.
Using iTunes 11.0.1.12
Click on the box in the upper left corner, "Show Menu Bar," or press Ctrl+B.
Help -> About iTunes
Shouldn't take a half hour to figure it out.

In iTunes, I cannot drag and drop music into my Ipod.
Correction: I can drag and drop a music file, but then on the iPod, the music file shows up in gray, unplayable, and just doesn't end up transferring. I have dragged and dropped music files on two different computers, now it doesn't work on either one. Any ideas what might be wrong?
Are you following the instructions here:

I recently installed iTunes 4.3.5 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore. Every time I try to drag the music from a folder into the library, that little circle with the line thru it comes up (not allowed symbol). I've been using iTunes for years and am pretty computer savvy... I have no idea what the problem is. The only way I can add music right now is if I go to File>Add File to Library and that takes way too long, especially when adding 20-30 songs. I am using Windows 7 and I have an iPhone 4. Please help! This is extremely frustrating.

No, sorry... you did not. There is no iTunes 4.3.5.
What did you actually install? iOS 4.3.5 on your iPhone? If so, this has NO affect on the ability to manually manage media via iTunes.
Let's start over... tell us exactly what has been done. -
Drag and drop music in iTunes not working
Hi all,
I am having problems dragging and dropping music in iTunes from my media library to my iPhone music library. The only possible way to import music is to sync playlists (which I hate doing). Does anybody else have this problem?
Thanks! You need to make sure that your settings allow you to manually manage music. I believe it is a check box on the main settings page for your iPhone.

Why cant i drag and drop movies into itunes?
why cant i drag and drop movies into itunes?
To make it display on the desktop, Finder > Preferences > General tab > check external disks.
The drive might be formatted NTFS for Windows which is treated as read-only on the Mac. Need to reformat it using disk utility. -
Can't drag and drop music from itunes to Iphone
my brother recently updated to a newer version of itunes and i can no longer drag and drop music from my itunes to my iphone! ive tried everything that i know and nothing is working! i tried checking the 'manually manage music' box, but everytime i do that it asks me if i want to erase and sync and doesnt give me another option. I dont want to do that! my songs that are on my ipod are not on my current itunes! they are lost ;( . i turned on home sharing (not sure what that did but i tried it) and i also authorized the computer... help please!
you iphone does not work like a regular ipod, where you can drag and drop music, you must sync it with itunes. plug it into your computer, click on the icon that is labeled iphone. when you do this there is a section on the top that says music. click on that, then you can select playlists and artists, etc. then click apply. it should work then

I connect the iPhone to itunes. that works. Everything shows up fine, but I can't drag and drop music from the 'music' section of iTunes 12 on my new mbp or my iMac. I used to be able to. Also, when I slide to delete songs on the iPhone, they still appear as 'ghosts' in the list on iTunes when the phone is connected - if I double click them, a exclamation mark in a circle comes up on the left of the track and it doesn't play. Can anyone help? Kind of need to get this sorted - it's bloody frustrating. I've restarted iPhone, iMac, MBP, downloaded the latest versions of iOS, OS X 10.10.3.

Help - lost ability to drag and drop music between itunes and iphone
I used to be able to manage my iphone 3GS music library through itunes on my MacBook pro - I could delete songs, drag/drop from my macbook library to the iphone, etc. However, just tried now and can't do that anymore! All the songs in the music library are greyed out, I can't drag and drop, I could only "sync" to add music.
I recently got a new iphone (warranty replacement) and also just uploaded a bunch of updates to software, so I don't know what caused this problem. Any ideas? Thanks. What he said.
However, consider a different way of managing music on the iPhone that I find much easier. Create a Playlist (or lists)in iTunes, then drag all of the music you want on the phone to this list. Then, in the Music tab, check to sync only that playlist. It's much easier to add and remove music from a playlist than it is directly to the phone. -
Can't drag and drop music onto iTunes...
Hi guys,
Ok I just recently bought my first mac, a MacBook Pro. Transferred all my files (most importantly my music) onto an external hard drive from my PC, then transferred files from the hard drive to the mac and it all seems to be fine. However for some reason I can't seem to get my songs into iTunes. I tried scan for media and that just pops up saying 'processing' for a second then nothing happens...then I tried simply dragging my whole music folder into iTunes, it looked like it was doing something, again said 'processing' but nothing happened. My music folder is pretty big at 42GB, could this be the problem? My iTunes is up to date I just don't understand, can anyone help?
Thank you,

Hello!
Check if you run iTunes in Administrator mode. For using drag and drop and miniplayer buttons in dock you need to uncheck "Run as an Administrator" in iTunes.exe file.
Have a Luck!
That is the true answer. I can't figure why the drag and drop feature is disabled when in admin mode, but I'm happy it works again. Thanks.
