After java update 7.51, seems firefox has slowed. anyone else?

Today's Date: January 24, 2014. updated Java on prompt at bootup a couple of days ago. Thereafter, seems that Firefox is somewhat slower in page changes, or clicking on links on some few websites that I visit regularly. I have no web design skills, so I don't know the terminology. I do hear the CPU/GPU fans revving up more than I recall.
I am using Firefox 26, or latest.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:<br>
<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.

• Firefox has slowed up considerably. I also, use Safari and has sen no changes in its speed?

It seems Firefox has slowed up considerably when searching or surfing the web. It does not seem to be my computer as Safari still runs fast.

Hi BenderKnows,
I have the same problem (and he same machine)
A technician at my usual Mac retailer told me I could upgrade to 8GB.
Although he warned me of a possible "heat issue", I think I will try it...
Anyone ever tried 8GB in a Macbook 5,1 (13-inch alu, late 2008, Intel Core Duo 2.0 GHz)?

• I uninstalled Java get this messag - Missing JAVA? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version.

I am using Windows 7 premium 64-bit. I have uninstalled Java completely through Windows program manager. There is no Java in my list of plugins. Every time I update my plugins I get the following message - "Missing JAVA? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version." I cannot find Java anywhere on my computer. Checked every troubleshooting website I can find but there seems to be no solution.

hello, is this happening on the plugin-check page - https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ ?
if so, you can probably safely dismiss this warning since it's likely a mistake. when java isn't present, the site will give that warning message though a webpage cannot detect if this because of java being blocked or if it isn't even installed on the system.

Hi - there are several issues that can cause Firefox to seem "slow". Go through this short list of possibilities, and get back with me:
* Frequent "Problem loading page" issues are likely caused by a firewall. See Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox for instructions on how to check firewalls. Antivirus toolbars are another possibility to check; see Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Slow when loading Flash/Java: These issues are usually caused by add-ons or by outdated plugins. First, upgrade all outdated plugins by checking . If it's still slow, see Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Slow to start up: This is most often caused by an extension delaying Firefox's startup. See Troubleshooting extensions and themes.

You may need to use Safe Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>before</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
See:
Troubleshooting extensions and themes
Troubleshooting plugins
Basic Troubleshooting
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>one at a time</u> until the problem reappears. <u>You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

Hi ..
Not enough free storage space can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk
OS X Tips Where did my Disk Space go?
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.
Anti virus software, as well as third party Mac cleaning utilities such as MacKeeper  and CleanMyMac can also slow your Mac down.
For Safari.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test. if that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

I don't seem to be able to use the quit function (cmd+q). Only if I turn off Java again. I have updated it a few minutes ago, can't see which version it is. 14?
Does anyone else have this problem?

Also, go into System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard Shortcuts and click the "Restore Defaults" button. See if that helps.

Drag the "com.apple.finder.plist" file to your desktop and then restart.
It's in the YOURNAME/Library/Preferences/ folder. Hopefully that fix will stick.
Note: That won't do what you think it does. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6521022 for a (long) explanation. Force quitting the Finder after blowing away com.apple.finder.plist will do what you want.

• Some pages don't render properly after Java update for OSX 10.6.8

I can't seem to get T-mobile.com's website pages to render properly anymore. So far, this is the only website I'm having this issue with, though there could be more I'm not aware of.
I go to www.t-mobile.com and this is what I get:
I think I might be missing a plug-in, but not sure; if so, I don't know which one or how to get it.
This only started happening after the latest Java update for OSX 10.6.8, which I installed on Feb. 24, 2013. All of T-mobile's pages look like this, except if I go to www.my.t-mobile.com's home page. Then I get a normal page, but after I log in, I get more wierd rendering issues again. So here's the page that appeared normal today:
And after I log in successfully, I'm back to the wierd rendering issues again:
I was so lost but then I decided to try a work around to get my online bill and managed to get it, but I don't want to see the pages like this. So help please?

So, here's more on my point...
I put in the 3 captured screen shots in my original post above. I used Grab to copy the web pages, saved them to my desktop as .tiff files and dropped them in for others to view. This morning, I went to look at my post and instead of seeing the screen shots, I see 3 tiny blue boxes with question marks. When I left click on the boxes, nothing happens. When I right click on them, I get options that are not helpful:
Open Image in New Window
Open Image in New Tab
Copy Image Address
Import Image
Capture Selection from Screen
Convert Selected Traditional Chinese Text (why the frack is this an option?)
Convert Selected Simplified Chinese Text (or this an option?)
I checked my Safari Preferences and I see I have checked, under Security, Enable plug-ins, Enable Java, Enable JavaScript.I have to have Java enabled to run a few things.
Did something get corrupted in Safari?
Am I'm missing some plug-ins?
How do I get them back?
I'm going to search the internet. Well, after doing the search, I still don't think I've got what I need. Thinking I might need to reinstall Safari. If this is the case, will I loose all my Bookmarks?

• I have followed all suggestions. Still can't fix the problem. After an update, my profile seems to be blocked.

My Toshiba laptop went through 45 updates, and now when I open Firefox (where ALL my bookmarks live) the program freezes after a few minutes. I get error messages about my profile, and errors about Firefox already running. I tried the suggestions above, but they don't seems to line up with my system. Windows8 is my OS. This query is on another laptop.

• Permissions Issues after java update...

So, I noticed after I got the java update awhile back that the permissions associated with it are wrong.
disk utility tries to repair it, claims it does, but still needs to be repaired afterwards. anybody else have this issue, so would it be normal?
I can post the output from disk utility if you guys need it.

It's normal. Not all permissions issues are ever resolved with any update. Unfortunately ever since 10.1.5 had permissions repair features, it never has 100% eradicated permissions issues. Though repairing permissions before and after each update helps, you'll never see a message that all permissions are repaired. As long as there aren't any other issues, I wouldn't worry about it.

• Two issues: Mail dotcom is now telling me to enable java in my browser and firefox has issues w/duckduckgo search engine. I am not allowed 2 instal DDG n search

2 issues: After a windows update on 5 10 2012, maildotcom says I need to enable java in my browser, when as far as I can tell, it is.
Second issue is, I am not able to add duckduckgo as my preferred search engine. I get a pop up in search tool add-ons that says "sorry, you need a Mozilla based browser to install a search plug in."
Why and how can these irritations be fixed?

<u>NoScript</u><br />
*To add a site to the NoScript "whitelist" (always allow) --> when on the site, click the NoScript icon and choose "Allow site"; the site will be placed on the NoScript Options > Whitelist (non-italicized).
*If you click "Temporarily allow site", the site will be allowed during the Firefox current session (until you close/exit Firefox) and will be placed on the NoScript Options > Whitelist (italicized) and will be removed from the whitelist when you close/exit Firefox.

#This adds a DDG toolbar and says it adds the "encrypted (HTTPS / SSL) version of DuckDuckGo in your search bar" --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duckduckgo-ssl/
#You can add only an item to the Search Bar (without a toolbar) by choosing one of the items here --> http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=duckduckgo&opensearch=yes
