After Kernel-Patch 139556-08 System wont come up

Hello...
Yesterday I installed KernelPatch 139556-08 (x86-64bit s10x_u6wos_07b ) in multiusermode on a Virtual machine installed on a Vmware ESX 3.5 machine.
After rebooting the System wont come up - only in failsafe 32 bit mode - Mounting the ZFS Systempool under /a is working too. The System crashes with a dump -
starting with errormessages "rootnex ....undefined iommulib".
Any chances to recover my System without a backup ?

I made the same mistake using the recommended patchset from 13/8. On 30 systems the patch set went in fine
in full user mode. Then I thought that it should be save to apply to my latest server, which I installed using a zfs
root file system. The patch 139556-08 failed to install and the patch script stop with

So the patch did not apply. However on re reboot the system went into single user
mode with error messages on cpu cpupm etc.
I then rebooted and went into fail safe and did an auto update. After that the system
crashes on a full boot up, but I can still gotinto failsafe.
I have got no copy of the patch on the system so I am somewhat "stuffed".
This is the second time a recommended patchset ruined one of my main file servers
and previously I installed it single user mode.
Any idea how I can get out of this mess short of re-installing.
Considering that the problem was reported way back in May should such an important
issue not have been seen and remedied before?

  • Backup error after kernel patch upgrade

    Hi.
I have a backup problem after the kernel patch upgrade.  I have SAP R3 4.6C on HPUX11.0 with an Oracle 8.17 database.
I have upgraded kernel patch from 1655 to 2337.
Afterward, I am getting following backup error:
    BR280I Time stamp 2007-11-06 09.29.01
    BR279E Return code from '/usr/sap/HAD/SYS/exe/run/backint -u HAD -f backup -i /oracle/HAD/sapbackup/.bdwnpztp.lst -t file_online -c': 2
BR232E 0 of 115 files saved by backup utility
    BR280I Time stamp 2007-11-06 09.29.01
    BR231E Backup utility call failed
Does anyone know how to correct this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Jun,
backint is a link file that is in SAP kernel directory which links to the backup client on the server.
    eg:
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         32 Aug 13  2004 backint -> /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/backint
As part of kernel upgrade process, the kernel is backed up, mostly on the disk before upgrading. Check if this link exists and recreate it in the kernel directory, if no backup was done, compare it with other systems to get the details of the backint link.
    Cheers,

    Hello,
Since I'm on SQL, I use DB13 just for Check DB.
I've tried deleting everything & recreating the schedule, but it has'nt helped.
Even after rescheduling, SM37 doesnt reflect the scheduled jobs.

    Hi,
I think some of the answers are partially correct.
For the full and correct solution you must

  • Static library not accessed properly after Solaris Kernel patch update !

    Hi,
We are facing a sever issue in our application after our customer updated the Solaris 10 kernel patch u9 to u10.
We have two static libraries libdlib.a and libDLIB.a, with exactly same code base, but these two libraries are scattered across the code base and linked by many shared objects in our application.
However, one of the shared objects that links to "libdlib.a" library tries to access a function from "libDLIB.a". This behavior is causing a crash at a later point, since that shared object is supposed to access the function from "libdlib.a". Moreover, we found this is happening through the use of dbx.
I'm unable to understand why this problem surfaced after kernel patch update, though still the shared object works fine on Solaris 10 u9 patch.
Flow is something like this :
    1. syslogrecorder.so gets loaded by one of the processes.
    2. syslogrecorder.so is linked to "libdlib.a" at compile time, so it uses "libdlib.a" function DLIB_LoadLibrary and gets a handle to all the function pointers of the loaded library ( The purpose of DLIB_LoadLibrary is to load a shared library dynamically using dlopen )
    3. syslogrecorder.so tries to do a "dlsym" and to do that it needs access to the library handle which we got in previous call DLIB_LoadLibrary. So syslogrecorder.so calls another function from DLIB_ProcAddress, which actually gives back the access to the loaded shared library.
Here is a catch in step 3, it is supposed to call DLIB_ProcAddress from the libdlib.a but as we observed from dbx output it does so by calling DLIB_ProcAddress from libDLIB.a and hence fails to give back the access to loaded shared library, causing crash at a later point in code.
Can someone put some light here that why this could happen ??
    Thanks
    Kuldeep

To clarify: You did not modify or rebuild any of your binaries, but after installing a kernel patch, the application stopped working. Most likely, something about your application depended on a accidental behavior of the runtime loader. That accidental behavior changed due to the patch, and your application failed.
For example, if there is a circular dependency among shared libraries, the loader will break the cycle at an arbitrary point to establish an initialization order. By accident, that order might work, in the sense of not causing a problem. A change to the loader could cause the cycle to be broken at a different point, and the resulting initialization order could cause a now-uninitialized object to be accessed. I'm not saying this is what is wrong, but this is an example of a dependency on accidental loader behavior.
Finding your actual problem will require tracing the sequence of operations leading up to the failure. You are more likely to find help in a Solaris linker forum. AFAIK, there are currently no Oracle forums for Solaris, and the old OpenSolaris forums have been converted to mailing lists. You can try the "tools-linking" list found on this page:
    http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo
I also suggest you review the paper on best practices for using shared libraries written by Darryl Gove and myself:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/linkinglibraries-396782.html
If you have a service contract with Oracle, you can use your support channel to get more help.

  • Kernel Patch- EDI issue

We ran a kernel patch to our system last Friday in QAS.  Now our EDI mapping seems to have reverted to an earlier version and we are getting errors in processing IDocs.
We did check in the IDoc for the setting Control Record-- Techn. info-- SAP Release.  It is correct.   We also checked libraries, and put the program in debug to no avail.
Looking for ideas.   Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

    > We ran a kernel patch to our system last Friday in QAS.  Now our EDI mapping seems to have reverted to an earlier version and we are getting errors in processing IDocs.
A kernel patch provides the runtime for ABAP, it never changes any table entries. So your error is most likely not caused by the kernel update but maybe by an import (STMS) that was done.

  • Kernel patches = total downtime?

We are preparing to install errata patches for RHEL4 and I am trying to find any documentation that might tell me whether or not we need to bring down a cluster to install the kernel patches. I remember hearing somewhere that most OS kernel patches require the cluster to come down because each node must be at the same level. How do I determine if this applies for the patches at hand?
    kernel-largesmp-2.6.9-67.0.1.EL.x86_64.rpm

Oracle Support.... or lack thereof. They said they do not test everything in house, so I would have to test on my own. Obviously, I wound up with one of those front-line people.
Anyway, I did test the rolling patch on my end and it appears to fine.

  • ROSS CPU didn't work with kernel patch 112233-07

Just noticed my HyperSPARC (ROSS CPU for S10/S20) had problem with kernel patch.
Got 2 X 180Mhz ROSS CPUs running fine with Solaris 9 (kernel level 112233-07) on S20 until applied the Recommended patches set (kernel level 112233-12), once the patches set installed and reboot, the S20 won't boot up anymore and showed some error on the kernel...
Reinstall again the Solaris 9 (kernel level 112233-07), and applied the Recommended patches set without kernel patch 112233-12, system boot up fine without issue.
Was looking around but didn't find anyone else got same issue (even on Sunsolve site) like me, maybe the box is too old to play with...

  • HT201407 during a update of apple my iphone 3GS crashed an now the operating system wont load up..ive tried to reset the phone to the factory settings it took 4 hours an completed but my iphone still wont come on..what can i do to fix the problem? please

during a update of apple my iphone 3GS crashed an now the operating system wont load up..ive tried to reset the phone to the factory settings using itunes it took 4 hours and completed but my phone still wont come on..what can i do to fix the problem? please help #

In trying to include what information all that I could I should have specified I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WAS DEFINATELY JAILBROKEN when I took it to the apple store they told me there's no way for them to tell if it was jail broken or not. I'm only going by what ppl have told me COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE PHONE. With that said the only thing I know for sure is that the apple tech at the Genius Bar told me that someone took control of my root menu in February & I've had no control of my phone since. I asked him how to regain control & how he knew his exact words were "oh that is out of our scope of capabilities here at this level & you would need an apple engineer to fix it". I said ok then how do I get an apple eng then? He laughed & said you can't!!!! To which I was furious I came home & called apple requesting to speak w/the fraud dept to file a report they said we don't have a fraud dept!! So after a 45 mn phone call again I left w/no answers.
    @TJBUSMC1973-
I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND HIRING AN ATTORNEY & Although I appreciate your suggestion I fail to how an attorney would be able to facilitate in any way since there's no suspect. I cannot prove that it's him doing it so I certainly can't pursue legal action w/no proof & no money. :'((
Again I thank you for your advice but I don't think that will help.
I was looking more for a TECHNICAL way to avoid this happening w/a new phone should I buy one or trying to get them out of my phone now! Such as installing some kind of software protection?? Someway to clear out the entire phone (other than factory reset which was done 10 x's w/no success, etc. if this person got in then there HAS TO BE A WAY OF GETTING HIM OUT, right????

  • J2EE on Windows App server wont start after JSPM patching

    Hi,
I've patched an ECC6 system on DB2 V5R4 to SP16 level on ABAP side, and Enhancement pack 3, and then did an update to JSPM and installed new SP16 levels of the Java components.
Now my Windows App server starts only the ABAP Work processes, not the J2EE side. I get a yellow light and the message
    J2EE Status info unavailable.
On the Windows work directory for Dialog instance D00, I see that the dev_server0 has only messages about the last shutdown 2 days ago.

    Thanks Kaushal,
I hadn't done any changes to UME, but I have got a JSPM support package (EP-PSERV SP16) in status of ERROR that seems to be at the bottom of the problem.
Apparently, JSPM is not able to cope with any flavour of IBM DB2 (Windows, AIX, or i) at a point in this support package.  There is a note 1156313 and it matches the error which is in the  sdm log file:

  • Kernel patch 127128-11 renders my x86 system unbootable - what to do?

Just installed some patches with smpatch as usual, kernel patch 127128-11 among them. I then dropped to single user mode to finish the installation, rebooted and... nothing. I get the SunOS copyright notice, and then nothing but a flashing cursor... I waited for half an hour, but nothing happened, no disk activity, keyboard not responding, nothing.
I had to reset the stupid machine...
This happened on old(ish) HP Vectra SFF.
What I can do now? What are my options? (And please DON'T say: "reinstall everything"!!!)
I have used Linux for 7-8 years, but Solaris is pretty new for me, this installation is some 2 months old (Sun Solaris 10 - 8/07 - x86)

I remember I ever tried a tool that you need to run in order to put your computer on the list.
Well it suddenly crashed and I didn't try it again. The certification tool: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/
At Sun they know very well which systems I'm running Solaris on.
This data is sent when you register to apply for updates. They don't use your registration info to list a system as certified to run Solaris10. See link above.
I have to admit I never added any patches by going into single user mode.I install in single user per instructions in patch README. I have rarely had issues installing patches this way.
Reading back this thread I see that this patch was part of the Solaris 10 5/08 version
and since I recently upgraded to this version and everything is working fine,
I don't think there is an issue. Neither do I think that there is an issue with 127128-11 patch, which is why I mentioned that OPs machine was not on HCL. It's an issue with OPs hardware, not the new kernel. So, what is that 'fix' disabling so that Solaris will run on unsupported hardware?
I haven't tried OpenSolaris yet. What do you think of it so far?

    Best regards,

    Hi,
Please ensure that sapxpg executable is located in your SAP Kernel directory where you have applied new kernel.
Whats the permission of sapxpg executable ? Check them.
Also check SM21 , dev_sapxpg and the required Work Process traces along with the testing of  SAPXPG_DBDEST_<hostname> RFC. This will be helpful in finding the possible causes for the same.
Please refer this[ useful thread|DB 13 (CHECKDB) Can't exec external program (No such file or directory)] which is describing the same symptoms along with this [informative link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/c4/3a80c4505211d189550000e829fbbd/content.htm].

  • Reboot system after installing patches

    Hi all,
My ZLM server executes two remote policies. The first one it registers the device to the catalog and the second policy is used to install patches using rug up -y.
    Few questions:
    a) There 's any way to reboot the systems automatically after aplying all the updates?
    b) I have found this document Cool Solutions: SLE10: Apply Updates Without New Kernel Updates Being Applied .Is it the best way to dont install the kernel related patches? Or there is any other way?
    Thanks in advance

    b) you could "split" your zlmmirror proze. In the first you exclude the kernel patches
    Code:
    <ExcludeBundle>patch-.*kernel.*</ExcludeBundle>
    <ExcludePackage>kernel.*</ExcludePackage>
and in the second you mirror only the kernel patches
    Code:
    <Bundle>patch-.*kernel.*</Bundle>
    <Package>kernel.*</Package>
    Hope that helps.
