Hello, J Appleseed.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can try an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.  Your iTunes library will not be deleted by doing this.  However, this issue could be a result of multiple issues so an uninstall/reinstall may not resolve this.  Below, I have included the best articles that will help you isolate and possibly correct this issue.  Process each step and test the results after each step processed.

When trying to launch iTunes on my PC running Windows 7 it freezes and I get the message: "Authentication Required. To access this site you need to log in to area "100656 on mellor.co. Your password will be sent in the clear." Because iTunes is frizen at this point I am unable to enter a username or password, or in fact do anything. Please help!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes numerous times as well as attempting all of the fixes that I could find on-line and still no joy.

That sounds extremely phishy to me... iTunes does not require authentication simply to launch it. I suspect you've got something nasty intercepting network traffic. That server may be set up to log the Apple ID that you enter so it can be used fraudulently. Try ComboFix from Bleeping Computer.
FWIW the domain mellor.co is registered to an accountants in Knutsford, Cheshire, UK, and produces the same authentication request if visited with a browser. There is no sign of a "real" publicly visible website at that domain which is a somewhat odd.

  • Shortly after launching into itunes, it freezes and I get the following message: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. How do I resolve this issue?

Shortly after launching itunes, the program freezes and gives me the following message:A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. The program then closes, even if I have not completed what I am doing. How do I resolve this problem?

That is what I thought. Cannot figure out how to turn it off, though.
However, when I talked to her over the phone, she is definitely using Firefox. I tried to access her Internet Explorer, but it has been deactivated, I believe by Firefox.
She primarily uses the Internet to communicate with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Her e-mail account is with Yahoo Mail, and she uses Firefox to access it. Occasionally, she uses the web to look up information, and may have downloaded a virus.
Do you think there's something in Yahoo Mail that conflicts with Firefox? Is there some remnant of Internet Explorer that needs to be deactivated? Could she have a virus?
Any information would be gratefully appreciated. I live 7 hours away, and can only help her over the phone. I'm trying to develop a course of action that I can use with her. I know a little bit about Firefox, so need your expertise.

  • Bootcamp overheating/freezing and quitting programs.

I'm having a constant issue with my MacBook Pro 13" intel core 2 duo processor blah blah blah.  I have partitioned the HDD to put bootcamp on it cause, let's face it, compared to the other bad excuses of computers (pc's) I have owned and played on, this computer is superior.  Well I take that back.  I seem to be having an overheating issue.  At least I think it is.  90+c.  I've read on other sites that this is normal (WHAT??? That's extremely hot so to say that's normal is a falacy) and that I should expect this (seriously?).  Anyway all complaining aside, my problem lies with the fact that apps freeze and inevitably quit in bootcamp.  I'm not sure why this is considering the ones that do it mostly are not graphic intense nor do they use much CPU.
I'm not even sure if this is hardware related or that the heat is really doing something to it (which in my case I would definitely believe the heat is affecting it a lot more than anything else but what do I know?  90c isn't hot at all for a machine /sarcasm).  I would blame the apps except its more than one which is too coincidental.  I don't even get any error reports or anything.  They just lag out, freeze and quit.  No ifs ands or buts.  The worst part is I update my drivers and my graphics driver BSOD's everytime I run a flash (YouTube vids are flash right?) vid.  I have Windows set in basic mode and very minimal things running (updater and obviously bootcamp but that's usually it) when I'm using these apps.  Games are what is doing it it seems.  I set graphics low to see if that fixes it.  Nope.
I guess what I want to know is, after all this skimming through many pages and not finding any answers, could someone please help me?  If not on the crashing then at least on the drivers and heat issue.  I really mean it when I say 90c is not a safe temp even if they say it is.  With my technical experience (I'm no pro but I know a thing or two) a normal temp when running simple apps should be around 56c max.
Thank you in advance for any helpful information you might have.  I hope to be enlightened.

  • ICal freezing and quitting because of Google integration?

    Hi.
I recently added Google Calendar to my iCal by the normal inputting of my information for my Google account. But now, when I open my iCal, I get this error message:
"The server responded with an error.
The server did not recognize your user name or password for account “GoogleMail.” Make sure you enter them correctly."
I click on OK, then it waits a split second before throwing up the same message, to which I click OK again. After that it freezes and quits. It does this every time. It also means my iPhone has lost all the events that were on the Google Calendar when it syncs with my iCal. How can I get iCal working again?
Any help would be gratefully received!
    Thanks.

by 'reset' - do you mean remove the account and add it again?
I've tried doing a few things but still getting the same error.
It connects to the server and creates the account and then comes back with the error message:
"The server did not recognize your user name or password for account “***@gmail.com.” Make sure you enter them correctly."

  • How to stop automatic downloads after launching itunes...

Itunes sucked 10 years ago, and it still does today....
Here is the solution to that nagging problem of Itunes automatically downloading an app, music, book, etc everytime you launch it, even after you uncheck the settings for automatic downloads, and even after you try to pause and/or delete the specific download:
1.) Complete any downloads that you actually want itunes to download.
2.) Delete any downloads that you do not want.
3.) Close Itunes or make sure that it is already closed.
4.) Open the folder on your harddrive (or SSD) that contains the Itunes Media folder location.*
5.) Inside of that folder, open the folder named "Downloads".
6.) Select everything inside that folder and delete it. Those items will either go to your recycling bin or (depending on your Windows settings) if the file sizes are too great, they will be deleted off the drive.
7.) Restart Itunes and nothing should start to download.
*If you do not know where that folder is located click Edit--->Preferences...--->Advanced. The exact location to the folder is listed in the box titled Itunes Media folder location. Feel free to change it. I changed mine to d:\itunes. My d: drive is my harddrive. I refuse to put on my main C: drive because my main C: drive is an SSD, and everytime you write on an SSD you reduce its life span. Also, SSD's are limited in space.

I would like to know how to purchase something and not have it download at the time of purchase.

  • ITunes movie freezes and skips with VGA out to projector

    Hi,
I have rented several movies on iTunes and can watch them onscreen no problem. When I used the VGA dongle to source the screen to an external projector, however, the movie gradually began to skip and freeze, with up to half a second pause between frame updates. Rebooting did not change this; however, after pulling out the adapter and just watching it onscreen, the movie was fine.
Has anyone else had this problem? And any idea what I can do about it?

this is probably because of the low processor, and integrated graphics. the Macbook pro has a graphics card that helps process the images, while the MBA relies on the processor to control graphics.
The video isn't smooth because of the slow processor.

  • After updating itunes my library and playlists are a empty Black Screen??

I've never had a problem with itunes until now, which is why this is my first post!
I just updated to the most recent version of itunes 8.2, and after doing so it seems the Itunes store is the only thing functioning! When I go to my music library or previous playlists that I've created I have only an empty black screen within the traditional itunes window. The screen is also black when I plug in my itouch.
I've rebooted my computer several times, and repaired the install twice for both itunes and quicktime. What else can I do? And I'm a pretty simple when it comes to computers so if you have a suggestion you may have to really spell it out for me. Please and thank you!
Edit: It is also taking MUCH longer than normal for Itunes to launch after clicking it from the desktop.

You could try the steps in this help page, although it says Pink, it may work. *+[Pink iTunes|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2030]*+
Also, some users have found this method works for a black screen http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/MicrosoftOperating_Systems/Windows/Windows_Vista/Q22998998.html

  • ICal freezes and quits

Recently, every time I open iCal it will just freeze and say that it unexpectedly quit and it will give me the three options (report, ignore and relaunch). I tried restarting but I am getting the same problem.
    Any resolutions?

I am having the same problem. Running Tiger (10.4.11, latest updates, etc.) on a PowerBook. Can not open iCal now. It works when I open it by logging in as another user, so I know that there's a working copy of iCal on my computer. How do I open it and fix the problem?
I have spent a lot of time fiddling with this. Everything went wrong around the time of the switch from dotMac to MobileMe.
    Any suggestions?

  • ITunes randomly freezes and enters a "Not Responding..." state

This started rather suddenly. After playing a few songs, iTunes would suddenly freeze, and doing a ctrl-alt-del reveals it has gone into a 'Not Responding' state. I've attempted upgrading to iTunes 11 but the same problem persisted. Deleting preference files worked for about an hour and then the issues happened again. This never happened before, and the iPod itself still works fine. For the few songs it does play before freezing, there's a huge gap between songs.
A complete wipe of iTunes and all associated programs did nothing, and I don't have any viruses or malware. I'm unsure of what to do. There's no warnings or popups. I am unsure what's left to do?

    Hi Samba,
What're the versions of your Office Excel and SQL Server Analysis Services? It will be helpful if you can share the detail computer resource information to us while encountered this issue.
In addition, we don't know your cube structure and the underlying relationships. But you can take a look at the following articles to troubleshoot the performance issue:

  • Itunes constant freezing and cannot restart

Hey, I've been having a lot of issues with my itunes for the past week or so. Every few hours or so (sometimes within like 1) my itunes will freeze completely. Once it freezes I'll close it or end the process in Task Manager and it generally shuts down. Now if the constant freezing wasn't enough of an annoyance, the itunes process also hangs in Task Manager after I've shut the program down. I have tried to end the process with taskkill, but it never works. While the process hangs it continues to consume computer memory and I cannot use itunes anymore. It just won't open anymore. The only way around this is to restart the entire computer. (Which is a huge pain!) I'd rather not have to restart my computer every time I want to listen to some music.
    Some things I've tried -
Uninstalling itunes and other apple services completely; normally and by using revo uninstaller on other occassions. Then doing a fresh install.
    Installing older version of itunes.
Using CCleaner to search for errors.
Checking to see if there are any firewall conflicts.
Doing a complete virus scan with Malwarebytes and Avast.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening, and/or know any fixes? If so, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Here's my computer specs -
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
    System Manufacturer: Acer
    System Model: Predator G5900
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU    650  @ 3.20 GHz (4 CPUs), ~ 3.2 GHz
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
Page File: 2366MB used, 5677MB available
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    Itunes 10.7.0.21
    Quicktime 7.73.80.64

Figured it out (I think). Seems to be an iTunes problem. I found some articles on this site about bugs in Version 7 so I deleted iTunes from my PC, reinstalled Version 6, drained down my iPod, hooked it back up, restored the OS from Version 6 and now, 3 days later, all seems to be working.
If you have a look over some of the discussions on this site you'll see that this is somewhat of a common occurrence, but Apple don't seem to be admitting it.

  • Why does my itunes keep freezing and give me the rainbow wheel of death?

Whenever I am doing stuff on my computer it will randomly freeze up and I am almost positive it only happens when iTunes is open and playing. I have a lot of free space on my hardrive even though I have around 6000 songs and a bunch of movies on there. I just downloaded a bunch of games form the app store too that could be taking up space. Please let me know if you can help!

what model year make computer do you have what os are you on how much ram do you have?
go to launchpad (yeah I said it) utilities> system information.
on the left hand side, hardware should be highlight and you will have all the information you need to give us.
Feel free to exclude your serial number. you can do so in preview. But it doesn't really matter, and it would be nice to have a reference of it somewhere should it ever get stolen. it your choice.
