After ldapclient on solaris 10 ...

hello all,
on solaris 10, I used ldapclient to init the server to ldap client however, after doing this I found following services are in maintenance mode yet I don't know how to re-enable it, "svcadm clear" seemed do not work, anybody has the same experience? thanks for the comment.
svcs | grep maintenance
maintenance 16:30:10 svc:/application/x11/xfs:default
maintenance 16:30:10 svc:/application/print/rfc1179:default
maintenance 16:30:10 svc:/network/rpc/rstat:default
maintenance 16:30:10 svc:/network/rpc/rusers:default
maintenance 16:30:11 svc:/network/nfs/rquota:default
maintenance 16:30:11 svc:/network/finger:default
maintenance 16:30:12 svc:/network/login:rlogin
maintenance 16:30:12 svc:/network/shell:default
maintenance 16:30:12 svc:/platform/sun4u/dcs:default
maintenance 17:04:36 svc:/network/telnet:default
maintenance 17:04:41 svc:/network/ftp:default

hello all,
what i did was converted host to ldap client, patched the system with 10_Recommended and some of the network services went to the maintenance mode.
After ldapclient uninit, reboot and then init again, the symptom has gone, but I could not explain why.
thanks for your attention.

How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10
    Hi Java Specialist,
I am trying to setup a network interface with the following steps on a new fresh Solaris 10 installation using the instruction titled How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10 3/05 ONLY from http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/816-4554/esxhb/index.html:
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb up
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment prior to installing Solaris
    10 on top of it.
    3. # Added saturn to /etc/hostname.lo0.
    4. # Added 10.56.8.101 to /etc/inet/hosts
    5. # Added 10.56.0.0     255.255.240.0 to /etc/inet/netmasks
    6.# reboot
However, the following errors kept recurring:
svcs –xv …. unable to qualify my own domain name,
    failed with exit status 69.
Any idea on what other steps have I missed? I was hoping to only do step 3 – 6 for the change to apply permanently.
    Many thanks,
    Jack

Hi Java Specialist,... in a Solaris forum?
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb upThe loopback connection (your lo0)is NOT a physical interface. There are no hardware components for it. Nor can I think of any reason why it should ever be anything other than the default 127.0.0.1
Use your favorite Internet search site (such as Google, Bing, Yahoo) to learn more about it.
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment ...I have no idea how a nonexistent software construct gets a DHCP address in a MS Operating System, unless you are confusing this with the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" which is an utterly different concept. Again, go see what Google tells you.
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
... completely unrelated to configuring an IP...
unable to qualify my own domain nameAgain, search the Internet or even search these forums with that string of words.
Go back through your two most recent posts and read the responses again.
They seem to both be on the same topic as this new one -- configuring an IP on something.
How to initialize new IP address on secondary interface permanently
How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10
When you've done all that, then come back and tell us what you are actually trying to do.

    I have a Sunfire V245 that was running on Solaris 9 (very stable). I upgraded to Solaris 10 (6/06) this morning and everything seemed to go smoothly. After the upgrade the system rebooted, but will not boot. I get the following uptput;

"go" attempts to reboot, but I end up back in the same place.

It seems like the driver for that device does not exist. Since the system installed successfully it means that it S10 did find a disk. I wonder if that was a different disk than the default disk. Please boot to the miniroot and check the disk info.

Perhaps your hardware / graphics adapter is not supported by Solaris 10.
Take a look at the Solaris Hardware Compatibility List:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
Now, no need to download any bootable ISO image. Just run this Device Detect tool:

  • How do I install additional locals after installation of Solaris 10?

    Hi,
I installed Solaris 10 withouth choosing to add Norwegian locale. I really don`t care for Norwegian messages, but it seems that X will not let me choose norwegian keyboard layout if I don`t install the Norwegian locale. My question is: How do I install the Norwegian locale after initial installation?
    locale -a gives me:
    C
    POSIX
    iso_8859_1
    And I guess I need no_NO.

If you are using a graphics terminal you may want to try using the "prodreg" utility, as root?, to add en_US support. It appears to involve numerous packages, at least for 64 bit support.
    Good luck,
    John

I don't know if it helps. But I had problems with the x-server not starting (didn't even get a gui login just command line) re-setting the network properties seemed to fix it, looks like anything dodgy in the network config stuffs up the start up proceedure.

  • HBA controller name changes after upgrading to solaris 11.2 from solaris 11.1

we have upgraded OS on control domain from Sol 11.1 to Sol 11.2 . After upgrade controller name of HBAs and NPIV wwns  changed ( like if it is c2 prior to upgrade  , post upgrade controller name changes to  c8). Due to this we have to redo virtual disk mapping for all ldoms hosted on this machine. .  Would it be possible to preserve the HBA controller names across OS versions ? we even observed this issue while upgrading SRU of solaris 11.2 system.  We have to upgrade around 20 systems to solaris 11.2 and with this issue upgrade seems to be a tedious task. Any idea if there is any fix or workaround for it ?

Are your disks only connected to one single HBA?
We use MPXIO to MultiPath over Multiple HBAs. Controller never changed here for the MPXIO devices.

Sorry to reply to my own post but this may help someone else.
The problem is that the Solaris 10 Express install doesn't install the /kernel/misc/sparcv9/kbtrans module. I just copied it before I rebooted after the first CD install.
    (1) At the <Press Return to reboot the system> {"!" exits} prompt, enter "!"
    (2) The new root partition will be mounted as /a.
    (3) Copy the kbtrans file
    cp -p /kernel/misc/sparcv9/kbtrans /a/kernel/misc/sparcv9/kbtrans
    (4) Reboot
This is just a workaround - Sun needs to fix the install.

  • Re: Problems after upgrade of Solaris 11 Express

    Darren,
None of these links are working. Is this just an issue for me or do we have a severe documentation bug only 3 weeks after S11 release?

O.K. I'll put the corrected URLs here:
    From Darren Moffet:
The behaviour of pfexec has actually not changed (the implementation has but that isn't what you are seeing). What has changed is the profiles that are assigned to the initial user and the fact that we have removed the all (too) powerful 'Primary Administrator' profile. Follow the pointers in the Security section of the Solaris 10 to Solaris 11 transition guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/E24456/rights-1.html#scrolltoc
For the networking configuration issues again the Solaris 10 to Solaris 11 transition guide is a good starting point: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/E24456/network-1.html#scrolltoc specifically for automatic mode this section: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/E24456/glncz.html#scrolltoc
For the DHCP and DNS interaction the best reference I can point you to is http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1453/dhcptm-1.html#scrolltoc which is the DHCP section of the Solaris 11 networking documentation. I don't know if it has the answer to your question or not, if you need more then maybe log a support ticket with Oracle.

  • Going back to mirrored after booting unmirrored - Solaris 10 x86

    Folks,
On one of my Solaris 10 x86 servers at the last reboot it failed to come up. I put back the versions of /etc/vfstab and /etc/system from before the boot drive was mirrored. "metastat" still reports the md versions of the slices are still in sync but I'm not convinced that's accurate since the failed reboot.
How do I go back to mirrored again at the next boot?
I've been reading doc 819-2789 "x86: How to Create a RAID-1 Volume From the root ..." and it looks like I need to go through most of the steps.
My best guess goes something like this -
Loop for each mounted slice - Use metadetach to remove the one not mounted. Use metaattach to add it back. Use metasync to confirm the mirror synced up again.
Once that loop has completed assume that any MBR stuff is broken. A bit like I've done with "mkboot" on SPARC but following the steps in the doc. Look at menu.lst, fdisk, installgrub, metaroot, have with and without mirror copies of /etc/vfstab and /etc/system ready just in case, reboot.
Basically all of the steps from the doc only instead of using metainit use metadetach, metaattach, metasync.
Does this make sense? It parallels stuff I've done on SPARC but I have a lot more experience on SPARC than on X86.
    Thanks in advance, Doug Freyburger

"metastat" still reports the md versions of the slices are still in sync but I'm not convinced that's accurate since the failed reboot. You're absolutely correct. As soon as you write (or mount read/write) to one of the raw slices or to one of the sides of the mirror, the mirror will be out of sync, and SVM will not realize it.
How do I go back to mirrored again at the next boot?Detach the side you're not booted from. Redo the metaroot and come up on the (now one-way) mirror. Once booted from the mirror, reattach the other side.
My best guess goes something like this -
Loop for each mounted slice - Use metadetach to remove the one not mounted. Use metaattach to add it back. Use metasync to confirm the mirror synced up again. You'll want to detach before using the mirror again, but you can't attach until you stop using the raw slice. So you can't just detach/attach in one step. You'll need to reboot between them.
Not sure why any MBR stuff would have been affected unless you did so explicitly.
Basically all of the steps from the doc only instead of using metainit use metadetach, metaattach, metasync.
Does this make sense? It parallels stuff I've done on SPARC but I have a lot more experience on SPARC than on X86.Should be the same on both. If you're adding a new disk, you need to make sure boot support is added. But in this case I doubt any of the boot support was damaged (depending on the details of what led up to your changes).

  • DL380 G6 timeouts during boot after installation of solaris 5/09

Timeouts during boot is mentioned in the release notes. I can use workaround 4. But workaround 5 does not work.
Has anyone else seen this? The problem only applies when the DL380 G6 is running ufs root filesystem. It works fine using zfs root filesystem.

    Hi.
Check that disk was detected at BIOS.
In case disk not detected - it's hardware problem. Check and reinstall REM.
In case disk was detected - it's look like problem with dirver.

  • Application crash @ libXm.so.4 in Solaris 10_x86 after migrating from SPARC

my application which worked well in the SPARC architechture, after
migrating to Solaris 10_x86 - facing lot of crashes originating at
    Motif Xm/Xt libraries like libXm.so.4, */usr/X11_LINK/lib/libXt.so.4*.
Did anyone face this kinda issue before?..Pls help me solving the issue...
Is there any patch+ that I need to install or do you have any other suggetions...?

You may be facing a lot of crashes when migrating form SPARC to x86 systems, if memory leaks are not taken care properly, especially when you are using Motif.
Memory leaks can cause serious problems with X Toolkit programs. Since event driven programs often call the same resource handling code repeatedly, even small leaks can result in large problems.
Memory leaks errors are common when getting and setting resources. When setting a resource, you must decide if the widget copied the value so that you can free (or modify) your copy. When getting a resource, you must decide if the widget returned you a copy that you must free.
Somehow, the solution for the Application crash. It was because of memory leak/improper memory deallocation/allocation.
