After loading lion email bodies disappear in old mail folders

Older exchange based mail folders show only headers but no content in mail...

Ernie,
thanks for the links.
I'm not sure which mail version I was using, it was under 10.3.(the latest version)
I compared the mail files on my laptop to the mail files on my desktop.
It seems that I'm in trouble.
Using the "INBOX.mbox" as an example, in my laptop files there is a folder called "messages" and inside there are xxx.emix files. On my desktop in the "INBOX.mbox" the "messages" folder is missing. This is the case for all the mail folders saved from the old OS. There are no xxx.emix files to be found.
Fortunately I have most of my received emails backed up also on the laptop.
I'm guessing I can import those. I'll just be missing all my sent emails from the desktop.
The main glitch that occured when installing Tiger is that the 10.4.7 upgrade caused my desktop to not start up past the spinning cog screen. I then re-booted from the install disk and used the utility app to copy the info from the main hard drive to a secondary drive. I did this after the initial 10.4.0 install. I'm guessing that something did not make the transfer? I had to do a clean install to get the computer to work. I hope this makes sense.

Pretty much the ipod is going to need to be repair. I would suggest taking it into the nearest Apple Store because they give you a 10% discount for older ipods towards a new ipod.

  • After loading Lion 10.7 I'm no longer able to use Quicken 07. Any work around?

After loading Lion 10.7 to my Desk Top, I'm no longer able to use my Quicken 07. Is there a work around? All my financial records are in Quicken 07 or do I need to remove Lion 10.7 from my computer

Quicken is a PPC application. They will not work in Lion because Lion no longer supports Rosetta emulation.
    1. You can downgrade to Snow Leopard.
    2. You can switch to Quicken Essentials.
    3. You can purchase a different application that provides similar services for you. Examples are MoneyDance or MYOB.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

I have uninstalled DAVE and used Clean App to remove trace elements of program, however I still get the message and am unable to eliminate the error messages.  When I click OK the message goes away briefly and then comes back up.
    Any solutions would be great.

    Dave,
Thanks....What I did was load the free eval version of Dave 9.0 and then used the uninstaller which must have deleted the kernel giving me the problem.
    Thanks for the response.

  • After loading Lion I cannot open some pictures. I get Unsupported Image Format. It tells me picture was taken with Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens

After loading Lion I cannot open open some pictures in Aperture. I get Unsupported Image Format, all files even the ones I can open are .JPG. Also it tells me picture was made using Canon EOS Rebel with unknown lens.

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.

It is supposed to be dark.
Is it all videos that don't display or just some. You may have installed something like Perian or Flip for Mac that translates the video codecs for Quicktime. They may need updating.

  • I need to use Time Machine to recover my old Mail Folders

I switched to a different ISP company for my email. When I setup the new account, it removed all my old Inbox and other folders (Drafts) in Mail. I've been using the Apple Time Machine - so I'd like to retrieve the proper file(s) so I can get some much needed DRAFTS in my old mail account.
What file(s) is needed to copy back so I can see my old mail folders? Thanks!

Csound1's comment may have some bearing here.
Although Time Machine backups to a network share are not officially supported by Apple,, a lot of users try it anyway with the AirPort Extreme...an equivalent Apple router with similar features to the Netgear...and they report mixed results.
Works fine for some, not for others. No one can really explain why this is, other than Apple does not support it.
As a test, if you connect the drive directly to your Mac computer, can Time Machine "see" the drive that way?
If Time Machine can see the drive when it is directly attached to the computer, but not see it when connected to the Netgear, then the options may have run out.
Other than trying a post on the Netgear forum to see if any users have been successful with this, I'm out of ideas at this point.

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Are all the files I created in AppleWorks lost after loading Lion?

Just loaded Lion - AppleWorks is incompatible - have I just lost all that data?

    tommccandless wrote:

No, data is not lost.  Problem is, depending on which data, you may not have an easy upgrade path in Lion:
    Last call for AppleWorks users
If you have a copy of iWork, you can easily open your word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation files in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote respectively. Select an AppleWorks word-processing file in the Finder, press Command-I to bring up the Info window, click on the Open With pop-up menu, and choose Pages from the list that appears. Click the Change All button and now all your AppleWorks word processing documents will open in Pages. Do the same thing with any AppleWorks spreadsheet files except choose Numbers instead. Similarly, for the six people who created and still keep AppleWorks presentation files, you can use this trick to open them in Keynote.
Regrettably there’s no path nearly so easy for your AppleWorks database files. FileMaker has a tutorial that tells you how to move these files to Bento, but it’s inelegant. Essentially you save your file as ASCII text and add a .tsv extension to it. Then within Bento you choose File -> Import -> File, click Choose in the resulting Import window, and then select your .tsv file. You’ll lose your AppleWorks templates, but your data will move over.
AppleWorks painting files can be converted to a variety of graphics formats including jpeg, .png, and TIFF. Regrettably this is something you have to do via a Save As command. You can’t simply change the file’s extension.
And AppleWorks drawing files can be opened and edited with the $95 EazyDraw. It’s not an inexpensive option, but it’s one that doesn’t require that you futz about with converting files.
Although this should go without saying, if you’re still using AppleWorks today to generate files and wish to stay current with Apple technology, it’s time to set AppleWorks aside and start using up-to-date tools. Continue using it and you’re only generating more work for your future self.

  • Lion email with *.pct attachments causing mail to hang

    Hey all -
Though this was not and still is not an issue for mail under Snow Leopard, it seems that messages that have a *.pct (Macs PICT format for images using Apple Quick Draw apparently) are causing Lion Mail to go off to obilvion - leaving no option but for a force quit.
What's also a pain is that since Lion Mail folds notes together, a conversation that was fine is now corrupted upon the receipt of a note with the blated *.pct file.
Under Snow Leopard on a Mac Book Pro I find no issue opening these messages or even the file itself, let alone saving it or doing most other things that I have tried.   But sending this file to the Lion Email causes a serious issue as soon as I try and open that note on the Lion Mac Pro.
As it is not easy to tell what file types may or may not be attached till you see them, this is sort of like Russion Roulet email.   When the system hangs I have now learned to bring up mail on another system - even an iPad or iPhone seems ok with this - where I can read the note, save the file or otherwise clear the problem.
Because Lion want to be extra friendly and restart from where it was - I have run into the issue where it hangs on a note and then after Force Quitting it immediately leaps back onto the same problematic note - thus the need for some other system to move the note elsewhere or delete it.
Working with different *.pct files doesn't seem to matter - those that I have tried have all caused the Lion mail to hang.  Notes have of course been sent to Apple, but thus far crickets....
Wondering if anyone here has found a solution for this.  I am guessing that *.PCT files are going to be an issue for Preview too under Lion, but actually have not tried that yet.
    Cheers

Hi, as far as I can tell, that log doesn' help, just tells us Mail crashed, and is far too long to really peruse.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Mail>highlight the Mailbox it is in, from the Mailbox menu, choode rebuild... any change?

  • Old mail folders

After reinstalling Panther I opened a folder called "Old Mail" on my desktop and now I cannot see my recent mail. It shows I have 1 new mail message but when I click on the mail icon at the bottom on the screen (which is where the 1 new message is showing) I just get the old mail which is from 2004. Can this be fixed? Thanks.

  • Re: after loading Lion on a 13" MacBook Pro the pulsing rest does not work anymore / CoeCon

Is there any trick with the adjustment??

I haven't done permissions yet, but I have rebooted several times. I had an issue with the superdrive not recognizing DVDs, so I zapped the PRAM and did the SMC thing.  Plus, I've tried rebooting just to see if that would help, but it has not.
I have been watching istat and there's some free memory but not a lot.  I was fine under snow leopard, I never had any troubles until I started running a lot of stuff at once.  I agree that this is almost certainly memory. It gets worse the more things I try to do at once.  Everything hangs whenever there's an operation to be done (syncing, downloading). It just feels like the machine is choking.
I saw an article earlier on one of the Mac RSSs that the writer was having problems with Safari consuming up to a gig of memory just sitting idle with a few tabs open.  I'm not going to bother with Safari until I put the memory in, Chrome runs pretty well, even if I can't really do the full-screen thing.  I guess at this point I'm just looking for help for what I can do to conserve memory until more arrives.  And I'm a little annoyed at Apple for saying Lion works with 2Gb of RAM when it really doesn't.  If you can't use the browser or the iTunes, how can you even hope to run Photoshop?  iMovie takes 5 minutes to load and when it does it's full of visual glitches.
I guess I'll try permissions and see if that helps. Thanks for your ideas though.

  • After loading Lion on my MacBook, where do I find the uninstallable software folder?

I downloaded Lion yesterday and reading all of the various data about Lion I was expecting to find a folder that contained all of the carbon applications that should be removed from the laptop.  Instead, all I find are Xs thru those Apps that are in my dock. I tried doing a search for the folder, but came up with only with articles that reference the issue.  I know there are old carbon apps on this device, which was the reason I chose it to do the first upgrade on.  I want to find out what issues those that move from Leopard to Lion would encounter, (besides having to do the Snow Leopard updates.)

    Peter Stubbs wrote:
So did I but out of the dozens and dozens of incompatible apps I had, Lion managed to put into that folder a grand total of 1 app therefore it cannot be relied upon.
I also had 1, Quicken, but it was the only incompatible program I had, so I can't tell whether it was accurate or they all just put 1 in the folder
