After loading my home page (BBC) Yahoo then loads automatically in a 2nd tab, how do I stop this?

When I open Firefox, my home page (BBC) opens normally, then, after a few seconds Yahoo opens automatically in a second tab and the screen goes to Yahoo. How do I stop this?

If you use Ctrl + left-click or middle-click a link then the link should open in a new tab.<br />
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page" -> Type the address of the website which you want to be your HomePage e.g. http://www.google.com
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> '''Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History"''' -> REMOVE Checkmark from '''"Permanent Private Browsing mode"''' -> place CHECKMARKS on:
    1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> '''REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES'''
-> '''When using the Location Bar, suggest: select "History and Bookmarks"'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window

  • When I go to a site the previous site which I visited loads at the same time. How do I stop this?

When I search for a site using Firefox the previous site that I visited loads at the same time. How do I stop this from happening?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • When open a new tab, I want the home page to come up, but it's something else. How do I change this? Thanks!

If I click the + to open a tab, it comes up to a browser window that I don't want. I have changed the "home page" to what I do want, that didn't seem to work, even when I restarted Firefox.
How can I change the screen that comes up when I select a new tab? Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

There is an extension to do that -> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

  • I have firefox 26.0. After it sits idle for 20 or 30 mins, it shuts itself down. How do I stop this?

None of the previous versions of FF did this. I haven't added any software or hardware, nor made any other changes. I'm using Win 7.
As a side note, even though I have my Options set to re-open all tabs when FF is re-started, none come up unless I re-set the 'Homepage' to "Use Current Pages" each time before I shut down.

Hello Bob, if you have set Show my windows and tabs from last time, then see if your [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-previous-session#w_settings-may-be-incorrect settings may be incorrect] in privacy panel.
Definitely you have too many pages as your home page and probably Firefox take long to start up !
It is '''not''' related, but in your system details it seems that you have in your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Windows profile folder] a [http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file User.js] file. The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then you can delete the User.js file(some programs create the file also).
    thank you

  • My yahoo home page is convoluted on Firefox, but not on Safari. How do I fix this?

I uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it, but that didn't work. My Yahoo homepage looks like a puzzle. Images not loading correctly. Works fine on Safari, so I figure it is something in my Firefox settings.

    Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
You may also want to try troubleshooting in safe mode.

these days i face this problem.whenever i click on a site it appears in a new tab.how can i stop it?

The Google Search setting has an option '''Where results open'''. If it is selected, you can try deselecting that. If it doesn't solve the problem, please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u '''Use hardware acceleration when available''']. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

  • Firefox is blocking me from up-loading a video onto Facebook. How do I stop this?

Am trying to up load a video to Facebook but they tell me that Firefox is blocking that from happening. I went to Firefox's pop up blocking page & typed in www.facebook.com as an exception but that didn't make it work. Is Firefox compatable with Facebook? Do I need to get a different server? Please help. Thank you, Allan- [email protected]

You may have an unwanted extension that is injecting interstitial ads or inserting them into sites. Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that help?
To provide more information about your setup, you can paste in the data from the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the upper left corner, use the "Copy text to clipboard" button to capture all the data on the page, then paste into a reply here.

  • Sometimes, Firefox will go back one page on hitting a left or right arrow key. How do I stop this?

I have noticed that inadvertant hitting of the left or (more often) right arrow key will cause the browser to go back one page in that current tab's history.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
== I don't know - I just noticed that the most recent occurrance involved accidentally hitting the right arow key.

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder and desktop shortcut before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 23.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
